Ipod connects- immediately disconnects. No time to sync!

Apple, If you're looking HELP!
I've seen numerous people with the same problem and NO RESOLUTION!
All of a sudden for no reason when the ipod is conntected, it connects for 2 seconds then immediately disconnects for no reason. It doesn't even have time to sync with I tunes. Any suggestions? I don't really want to reinstall iTunes. I have over 60GB of music and it is a long pain in the butt to reload.
Dell inpsiron 531, AMD 6000x2, Vista Premium.

The same thing happened to me.
First of all, close itunes. Then press ctrlaltdelete so the task manager comes up
then go to the processes tab and find a process called "iTunesHelper.exe" in the list
Then Click it and click "End Process" on the bottom.
After that, connect your ipod and itunes shouldnt show up.
The ipod is supposed to stay connected.
Click start and right click "computer" and click "manage". A window is supposed to show up.
In the right pane, click Disk Management. It will take a while to load up.
On the list of drives at the top, you are supposed to see your ipod listed in there somewhere.
Right click it and click "Change Drive Letter and Paths" and a small window will pop up.
there is only supposed to be one thing on the list. Click it and click "Change".
Select the first option ("Assign The Following Drive Letter") and on the drop down menu right next to it, change the letter to some other letter.
Then click "OK" and click "OK" again, and then eject your ipod through the safely remove ipod thing or through my computer (dont open itunes).
Then restart your computer and connect your ipod again.
It should be working.
Well, it was working for me when I did that

  • IPod Classic immediately disconnects itself

I have owned my iPod for not even a year, and I have not done anything to it to cause disruption or error or anything of the sort. Yet when I plug it into my Macbook to sync (or any other iMac or Macbook, checked with multiple cords as well), it will immediately disconnect itself. It is not recognised by my computer, iTunes does not automatically open, it does not charge and I am unable to even reset it to factory settings as I can't access it at all. I am rather frustrated that this is happening to a new device. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hey DaDann,
Thanks for the question, that definitely sounds frustrating. The following resource(s) outlines relevant troubleshooting for this issue, it may provide a solution based on your operating system:

  • Once my ipod is connected, it disconnects and doesn't sync anything

I have an 80GB classic ipod; one of the older generations, not sure of the exact one. When I connect to my iTunes, it makes the connecting noise, but immediately says on the ipod I may eject it and does not sync anything. In the past, I have tried mutiple times and then randomly it will work once, but do I have to do that again for it to sync music or is it tiem for a new ipod? Anyone else have this issue? Thank you

  • Ipod connects then disconnects automatically.

Hi. I have a 160gb iPod Classic. I have had it for 9 months without any problems. But now when i connect it to my pc it connects for 3-6 seconds then automatically disconnects itself.
I have tried multiple cables, that is not the problem
I have tried multiple USB slots,
I have tried it on different computers
    I have resotred the iPod
I have a mac and have tried connecting it to this but the same issue occurs.
I have seen a few posts about this before but no one ever really seems to be able to offer a possible solution apart from try a different usb port or cable. I have tried everything thus far but all in vain. It did get recongnised by my mac once and i managed to reformat it but then the same issue occurred. Then the same happened when i connected it to my PC after about 20 attempts.
Any other suggestions would be appreiated or it is off to apple care for it.
    Thanks
    Gary

I am have the same problem. I am using me i Mac, I plug in my i Pod and it says syncing for about 3 seconds and then say sync complete than about 30 seconds later it starts over again, and I never have any music on my i Pod.
I have tried different cables. I hook it up to 2 different computers, one mac pro and one dell, and it will work fine, but will not with my i mac. I have restored my i pod, unloaded and reinstalled the latest version of i tunes. it is acting like it is being turned on and off. I am also running parallels 5 with windows xp on it and when I hook up a web cam while in xp, not using built in cam, it will turn on and off conatantly, wondering if Parallels 5 might be interfiering with the program.

  • Ipod connects and disconnects automatically

... cant get it to stay connected. don't know why since it has been working perfectly fine until today. it is a recent buy though i've had it for about a week but i haven't had this problem in that time.
basically what happens is i plug it in, it automatically ejects it and it never shows up either on itunes or as hardware in itself on the computer.
can anyone help me out ?
Edit: also i don't know if this is of any extra help, but i have an ipod shuffle and that is still connecting fine.

    Hi!
I had the same problem and here's how I managed to fix it.
First of all, my iPod did connect and iTunes opended the iPod management screen after which the iPod disconnected itself instantly.
If this is the case with your iPod you should restore the Ipod using the management screen by
    1. check the enable disk use box.
    2. click on the Restore button. The program will start looking for an iPod to restore.
    3. quickly reconnect your iPod to the computer and restoring will start.
This worked for me. If it doesn't function try to do the same with the iPod set to disk mode.

  • Is it possible to have to ipods connected at the same time?

i have a 20G ipod and i just got an ipod nano. i can connect 1 or the other and update my music but i can't connect both at the same time. should i be able to do this?

No, I believe this is normal behavior, and you should NOT be able to connect both at the same time...

  • Ipod Connecting then Disconnecting 2 seconds later

Please help, my ipod is connecting to the computer, not showng in itunes and then disconnecting 2 seconds later, ive tried rrestarting and different usb ports and different wires but still no luck!
    Please,
    Clare x

Have exactly the same problem with my wife's MacBook Air. After restaring in Restore mode and trying to repair the disk (Disk Utility showed errors in the verification), the system tells me to backup as much data as possible (how?), re-format the disk and restore backed-up files. Error comes up when "updating boot support partitions for the volume as required".
Original restart action was done due to software update requesting it, if I remember correctly, iTunes was updated.
I don't want to start a painful back-up procedure (although I do regular back-ups): how should I know, where iPhoto stores it's data or where my mails are (yes, still using local mail)? How can I access the data if I can't boot?
My iMac's disk crashed also a couple of months ago and I'm still recovering. I have four Apple devices, two of them have failed. Can Apple afford such a ratio?

  • My iPod Classic 5th Gen 30gb won't sync

I need some help here. In the past, I've been able to connect my iPod to my iTunes, hit sync, and be on my way. Now, I don't know what has happened, but, whenever I connect my iPod to iTunes and hit sync, iTunes just keeps saying that it is "Starting sync" and doesn't get past that. It does show up in iTunes and I have been able to move files on the iPods disc, but it just refuses to sync. I've tried waiting for very long amounts of time, yet it still just says "Starting sync." I've tried resetting, using different USB ports, using different iPod cables, rebooting my computer, letting the iPod die completely and recharging it completely, checking for updates on the software, and even restoring, which wiped away all the music off of my iPod which I, for the time, cannot sync back on. I haven't found any other problems like this and am becoming worried beacuse I need my music a lot of the time. Is there anything I can do?

I don't think the wireless receiver for the keyboard/mouse will have any effect.  Sometimes, there can be conflict between USB devices, so that's why I advised removing as much as possible.
The fact that it completes Restore successfully seems show that the iPod is OK.  If it was getting stuck during the syncing, like maybe a part of the iPod's hard drive has bad sectors, then it would get passed the "starting sync" bit and show the progress bar.  So I think it's something related to software (on the computer).
Try this...  Select the iPod in the sidebar under DEVICES.  Over to the right, on the Summary tab, check the checkbox for Enable disk use.  Apply the change.  This will keep the iPod connected to Windows as a "disk," even when iTunes is not syncing.  With disk use enabled, try doing a sync.  NOTE:  When disk use is enabled, you have to Eject the iPod in iTunes before physically disconnecting it.

  • IPod Class Automatically Disconnecting While Synching

Ok I managed to solve my previous problem and now when while I'm synching my music onto the iPod,it automatically disconnects causing the whole sync to completely stop.Any idea why ?

Hmm. Well, since the problem happens on both computers, the problem more than likely lies with the iPod itself. The iPod's software may have become corrupt in some way and may need to be restore via iTunes. Keep in mind that restoring will erase all the music and files from your iPod so make sure they are backed up on at least one of your computers. However, that is not a guaranteed fix and I don't think you really feel like reloading all 105 GB of music on it.
Maybe try manually putting the iPod into Disk Mode while connected and see if that helps the iPod stay connected and mounted properly.

Other than that, I don't know of any other way to handle this situation and am out of ideas or potential solutions. Maybe try completely uninstalling iTunes and then re-installing. (There is a link right that the beginning of the document if you have Vista)

I am connected to Orange fr, I can download emails etc but cannot open any webpages.  Ipod Touch 5th vers, latest IOS installed, any advice would be most welcome.  This is the first time I have had this problem as my Ipod works immediately everywhere else.  My laptop does not show this problem using the same orange provider, so its obviously some setting in the Ipod :-(

    Try this:
    1. Double-click the Home button to reveal Task Bar at bottom
    2. Hold the Safari app down for a second or two until you see the minus sign
    3. Tap the minus sign to close app
    4. Re-launch the app and test
Note: If necessary close all apps in the Task Bar

  • IPod Shuffle 4th Gen keeps asking to restore every time connected to iTunes. Also when synced there are glitches in Songs ( stuck in between ) and voice over don't work for some. Please help.

Whenever iPod connected to iTunes asks for Restore. Once done when synced songs, unable to sync more than 2 Playlists.
Have to sync only 2 playlists or else the iPod doesn't play a song. Is my iPod memory corrupted ? What can be possible resolution ?

    Hi,
Yes, I have restored from Backup via i-Cloud. I've restored the iPod to factory settings.  It seem like there is a driver issue.  I installed iOS 5.01 and updated iTunes to 10.5.3.3 at about the same time.  Win-Vista64, iTunes and iPod are all up to date.  Apple Genius, at local Apple store was also perplexed.  He suggested I ask the community.  So, here I am.
It is strange that I can connect to other computers.  But, the other computers have Win 7.  Could this be a Vista64 driver issue?

  • IPod re-syncs on USB device connecting or disconnecting

    Hi All,
Having a strange issue with my iPod 2G. It connects and syncs with no problems, then I shut iTunes but leave the iPod in the dock to charge. Whenever I connect or disconnect a different USB device though, iTunes re-opens and the iPod re-syncs.
Not an overly bad problem in itself but a little tedious to keep having to eject it again.
    Any suggestions?
    Cheers

    - Try another cable
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
