Ipod connects then disconnects automatically.

Hi. I have a 160gb iPod Classic. I have had it for 9 months without any problems. But now when i connect it to my pc it connects for 3-6 seconds then automatically disconnects itself.
I have tried multiple cables, that is not the problem
I have tried multiple USB slots,
I have tried it on different computers
I have resotred the iPod
I have a mac and have tried connecting it to this but the same issue occurs.
I have seen a few posts about this before but no one ever really seems to be able to offer a possible solution apart from try a different usb port or cable. I have tried everything thus far but all in vain. It did get recongnised by my mac once and i managed to reformat it but then the same issue occurred. Then the same happened when i connected it to my PC after about 20 attempts.
Any other suggestions would be appreiated or it is off to apple care for it.
Thanks
Gary

I am have the same problem. I am using me i Mac, I plug in my i Pod and it says syncing for about 3 seconds and then say sync complete than about 30 seconds later it starts over again, and I never have any music on my i Pod.
I have tried different cables. I hook it up to 2 different computers, one mac pro and one dell, and it will work fine, but will not with my i mac. I have restored my i pod, unloaded and reinstalled the latest version of i tunes. it is acting like it is being turned on and off. I am also running parallels 5 with windows xp on it and when I hook up a web cam while in xp, not using built in cam, it will turn on and off conatantly, wondering if Parallels 5 might be interfiering with the program.

  • Ipod Connecting then Disconnecting 2 seconds later

Please help, my ipod is connecting to the computer, not showng in itunes and then disconnecting 2 seconds later, ive tried rrestarting and different usb ports and different wires but still no luck!

Have exactly the same problem with my wife's MacBook Air. After restaring in Restore mode and trying to repair the disk (Disk Utility showed errors in the verification), the system tells me to backup as much data as possible (how?), re-format the disk and restore backed-up files. Error comes up when "updating boot support partitions for the volume as required".
Original restart action was done due to software update requesting it, if I remember correctly, iTunes was updated.
I don't want to start a painful back-up procedure (although I do regular back-ups): how should I know, where iPhoto stores it's data or where my mails are (yes, still using local mail)? How can I access the data if I can't boot?
My iMac's disk crashed also a couple of months ago and I'm still recovering. I have four Apple devices, two of them have failed. Can Apple afford such a ratio?

  • Ipod connects and disconnects automatically

... cant get it to stay connected. don't know why since it has been working perfectly fine until today. it is a recent buy though i've had it for about a week but i haven't had this problem in that time.
basically what happens is i plug it in, it automatically ejects it and it never shows up either on itunes or as hardware in itself on the computer.
can anyone help me out ?
Edit: also i don't know if this is of any extra help, but i have an ipod shuffle and that is still connecting fine.

    Hi!
I had the same problem and here's how I managed to fix it.
First of all, my iPod did connect and iTunes opended the iPod management screen after which the iPod disconnected itself instantly.
If this is the case with your iPod you should restore the Ipod using the management screen by
    1. check the enable disk use box.
    2. click on the Restore button. The program will start looking for an iPod to restore.
    3. quickly reconnect your iPod to the computer and restoring will start.
This worked for me. If it doesn't function try to do the same with the iPod set to disk mode.

  • When i plug the USB for my iPad into my computer it will connect then disconnect over and over again untill i wiggle the usb around alot. This is happening to all my ports. But not on the other computer.

Hi. Whenever i plug my iPad (Happens with ipod and iphone too) to my computer usb for itunes is will connect, then disconnect over and over again. It has happened for a long time but doesnt happen on my other computer. how do i fix this?

If you have a spare cable, try using that.  But the fact that this doesn't happen on your other computer (I assume using the same old cable) leads me to conclude that something else is at work.  Maybe even the "bad" computer.

  • IPhone 4s keep connecting then disconnecting with new MBA

    Hi,
New MBA i5/4g/128 arrived this afternoon. During few hours of setting all my stuff, everything works just fine.
But when I try to connect my iPhone 4s with a official cable, it keeps connecting then disconnecting(about 2 times per second) and won't stop.
Is there anyone met the same issue? please help. Thanks!

    Thanks for the reply
I've tried 2 cables at home. 1 is a offical cable and another one is a 3rd party cable, both of them didn't work, and both of them work perfectly with other PCs.
After read your reply, I decide to try another 3rd party cable at office, it worked.
No idea why, but maybe MBA choose cable more sensitively?
Anyway thanks a lot and have a nice day!

  • When charging phone it connects then disconnects over and over

for some reason tonight when i am charging my phone it keeps disconnecting. i haven't done anything to the phone today other than using it. itunes says to restore but the phone keeps connecting then disconnecting. what should i do? take it in to at&t? no apple store around me.

AT&T doesn't do repairs. Either need to take to Apple store or call 1-800-MY-IPHONE and choose for the "ship it in" option where they will send you a pre-paid return box to ship it in and send it back to you after.
However, issue could be your cable, or your computer just having issues as well. If you have access to another cable, I would try that, also with a reboot. I would also see if you can charge with the wall adaptor with your current cable, if you can, it may just be your computer is having an issue with it.

  • Insignia headphones connecting then disconnecting.

I am relatively new to Bluetooth and I wanted to use Bluetooth headphones with my Mac Mini. I bought the Insignia NS-BTHDP headphones/headset and it has successfully paired with the Mac Mini as indicated in the Bluetooth preference pael. When I first turn the headphones on the indication will change to "connected" but within a few seconds it changes back to "not connected" and the indicator lights on the headphone alternately flash blue and red indicating that it is in pairing mode. I tried disconnecting both the Bluetooth mouse and Bluetooth keyboard to see if it was a bandwidth problem but this did not help. In the Bluetooth preference panel I have selected to use the Insignia as headphones and not a headset. I am sitting less than 10 feet away when trying to get it to connect so it should not be a distance problem.
    Any suggestions?
    TIA

having same problem w/ a Southwing headset/headphones. just started recently. set will pair, connect, then disconnect. also does same thing w/ older motorola earpiece headset. both devices worked fine until one week ago. i've tried everything still can't get "connected" to hold.

  • New Ipod - Connecting, then Automatically, uncontrollably disconnecting.

Hello I just got a new 160gb black classic Ipod (just today infact) and I plug it in. It connects...and then immediately disconnects. I just connect, and it disconnects. Both my parents have 2gb Ipod Nanos so I have the newest Itunes, but I have no idea what to do. The computer registers it for a few seconds as a G Drive with 0 byte space and then disconnects. I reset it 5 times in a row and all I got was "Ipod device cannot be recognized" or whatever problem that is. Advice please? I leave for a Month-long trip to Europe in a few days and I got this Ipod specifically for this reason.
    Thanks

Hmm, I have my 80 gig classic for more than a half year, and I hadn't encountered this problem so far, but today I encountered it, thus afterward stumbling upon this tread. I copied a file in my iPod which I had to have on another PC, but the iPod wouldn't properly connect with the other PC. When i connected it, the new device connected chime sounded and half a second later - the device disconnected sound. The iPod showed connecting, then ejecting, and the battery indicator was acting a bit weirdly. I tried a few more times with the same results. I was a bit concerned with this, even more so after reading your problem, but when I got home, my computer and the iPod connected as usually, no problems at all. The funny thing, though, is that I had connected the iPod to the other computer several times before without any problems. Oh and my computer has Win Wista, and the other had Win XP. I hope that maybe someone other more experienced can get some hints from this.

  • Ipod keeps connecting then disconnecting

I've tried everything possible to try to make my Ipod mini work. I can't connect it to the PC because it keeps connecting and disconnecting repeatedly. I can't restore it since I can't connect it. I've tried all the different USB ports and I've installed and uninstalled all the programs a few times. I've also reset it connected and disconnected. It has worked before but now it won't! This is driving me nuts

Similar problem here too plus when I do manage to get them to connect they will not charge.
Both my classic iPods work fine, in all my computers, and show that they are charging, but my family have 3 nanos, a 4th and two 5ths. Although they all connect to my PC and my laptop fine, none of these will connect correctly to my daughters PC no matter what USB port I put them in.
I have checked in device manager that the ports are powered (500ma) and nothing else is there to infringe on this supply. Still these items connect and disconnect constantly. Ironically every now and then, they will connect and allow me to look at the files etc in iTunes. I have at one point had two nanos and my classic connected to her computer and they all worked fine for about an hour, I thought that I had finally got rid of the problem but one by one the nanos started to play up again so this exacerbates the problem somewhat.
I also get various warnings when the Nanos are trying to connect like, software driver failure to install, it will work faster in a high speed USB port, nano needs formatted to work in windows plus a host of others. When I plug them back into my PC they connect fine, so that all adds to the confusion. If this was one nano I would suspect that it was faulty but it is three different ones.
I have done the 5 Rs, I have even gone as far as upgrading from XP to Windows 7, I have plugged the units into every USB port, I even bought a new PCI/USB card and tried that and still this problem persists.
I would like to hear from someone with any suggestions as to what is causing this and how to fix it.

  • Ipod keep connecting then disconnecting... What do I do?

I have a 4th generation Ipod nano. I tried to connect it to my computer to put new songs on it, but when I plugged it into the usb connector it went crazy. It goes from being connected to being disconnected, connected to disconnected... It continues untill I finally remove my Ipod. It never shows up on Itunes during the process either. What should I do?

Have you tried connecting it to a different USB port on your machine? Maybe attempt to restart the iPod (which will take it out of Disk Mode) by toggling the hold switch on and off a few times, then pressing and holding the Center and Menu buttons together until the Apple logo appears.
Maybe also attempt to use a seperate USB cable to sync the iPod with.
How long will it stay connected? Does it appear in "My Computer"? If it does (for a long enough period of time), maybe try reformatting it using the tools provided by windows.
    http://www.methodshop.com/gadgets/ipodsupport/erase/index.shtml
If still no luck, also try plugging your iPod into a different computer if possible, to see if the problem lies with the iPod or computer. If you can get it hooked up to a second computer OK, I would recommend restoring it via iTunes.

  • IPod keeps connecting then disconnecting immediately... help?

So, I bought my iPod nano in April and it worked perfectly until about 1 month ago when my computer suddenly stopped recognizing it, and now whenever I try to connect it it disconnects after 1 second, then connects again, then disconnects etc etc....
I know this is a known issue cause as I've been trying to solve this for one month I've done some searching and seen plenty of other people having the same problem, but no one seems to have a resolution that works.
Basically my exact same problem is described in these 2 threads:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2240335&tstart=0
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1847791&start=0&tstart=2
I've done every thing suggested but no luck... I went back to the store as well and they didn't find anything wrong with it, so obviously it's my computer (I tried it at my mom's work as well and it worked there) but I don't know what's causing the problem. I don't wanna get my iPod replaced or buy a new one because it might just as well happen to that one too and then I'm stuck in the same boat again. Getting a new computer isn't really an option either. :/
So, any kind of help that hasn't been suggested already would be highly appreciated...
    thanks in advance

  • Everytime I try to connect my iPod to my iMac it would connect then disconnect and etc. Any help?

I have an iPod 5th generation. Both my iPod and iMac are up to date on everything. The wire is fine and also are the usb ports. Everytime I plug my iPod in the iMac it wouldn't be able to connect to iTunes and it would keep on connect and disconnecting. Anyone who experienced this got through the problem and tell me the solution?

  • My iPod won't Disconnect automatically.

My iPod used to automatically disconnect after it updated. I transfered a file from my MacBook, which I manually added to my iPod. The manual update to the iPod on the MacBook requires that I manually disconnect the iPod from the MacBook. Fine. On my main Mac, the iPod should sync when connected and disconnect when finished. When I synced the iPod with my main Mac, it no longer disconnects automatically. Any thoughts?

I'm not quite clear on what you were doing, setting the iPod to manual or enabling it for disk use. Anyway, here's what happens in either situation. Setting your iPod to manual update automatically defaults the "enable disk use" option. Changing it back to auto-sync does not remove it, you have to remove it manually. If on the other hand you simply enabled disk use to move a file then that's why your iPod is not automatically disconnecting. While this option is enabled you have to manually disconnect.
