Ipod Consistently asking to restore

I have had my Ipod for a year and two months. Ever since day one my Ipod has at most held 5 hours of battery charge. The second time I went to charge the Ipod I got the 'go to apple/support message. After restoring my Ipod numorous times, I still get the 'Use Itunes to restore' message every time I turn the Ipod on. I can turn the Ipod off immediately after getting this message and then turn it back on and it works fine, except that it has medium charge. I don't want to pay the $150 dollars to fix a defective product. Any Ideas anybody? I have tried restoring with Itunes, restoring manually with mycomputer, restoring default settings, charging on other computers (including Mac Book pro), and doing base OS non-data startups. All of these leave me with the same error message and issue.

No i'm keeping it on the same computer. I haven't restored it yet, i know it sounds lazy but its a bit of a hassle as I update my ipod manually so it would take a fair hour to drag all the songs back onto it.
If nobody has had any similar problems and found out how to solve it, then I may have to try restoreif it gets worse.

  • Ipod Repeatedly Asks for Restore

A day ago, my ipod started freezing up on me whenever I tried to play a song. I tried to reset it but that would only allow it to run for 5-10 minutes before the same problem would reoccur. When I connected it to my computer, it said that my ipod could possibly be corrupt and asked to restore to original factory settings. I did. Now, I'm in the continuous loop where my ipod will restore, autoplay, and then determine itself to be corrupt. I have no clue what to do with it. Help please?

  • Ipod keeps asking to restore when there's nothing wrong

Just got a new 5th Gen ipod for christmas. When I turn it on i frequently get the apple logo followed by a request to plug the ipod into the computer and restore it. When I turn it off and back on, the apple logo returns but then it goes onto the menu and the ipod works normally.
I don't want to have to restore it and start fresh, but it is annoying. Can anybody give me any tips?

  • Restored iPod more than 3 times and still asking to restore

I tried to sync my iTunes today and I was instructed to restore my iPod. No big deal so I restored. However, when the iPod restarted and was "restored", iTunes once again asked me to restore the ipod. I've tried restoring more than 3 times already and I've plugged it into different USB ports and I still get the same message.
Any ideas on how to fix this?

You are in a restore loop which is using caused by a drive assignment problem. Disconnect all other USB devices except for your iPod and change the drive letter on your iPod: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93499

    Hi,
Yes, I have restored from Backup via i-Cloud. I've restored the iPod to factory settings.  It seem like there is a driver issue.  I installed iOS 5.01 and updated iTunes to 10.5.3.3 at about the same time.  Win-Vista64, iTunes and iPod are all up to date.  Apple Genius, at local Apple store was also perplexed.  He suggested I ask the community.  So, here I am.
It is strange that I can connect to other computers.  But, the other computers have Win 7.  Could this be a Vista64 driver issue?

Place your device into recovery mode and then restore.
    See here:

Also set your iPod up as a new device, rather that restoring from a previous backup.

    Maybe:
Restore loop (being prompted to restore again after a restore successfully completes)
Troubleshoot your USB connection. If the issue persists, out-of-date or incorrectly configured third-party security software may be causing this issue. Please follow Troubleshooting security software issues. .

  • ITunes wants me to set up iPod Touch again or restore it or eject it???

I bought this iPod Touch only two months ago. And since this is my second iPod (the first was a 5 gen that I had had for a couple years), I only did the initial iTunes 8 update I had to do when I bought it. Since it had been working fine, I didn't do any subsequent update(s). My motto is if it ain't broke...Anyhow, I don't normally do updates unless there is a really big gain I want. However, as of yesterday whenever I tried to sync it, iTunes wanted me to set up my iPod touch as a new iPod or restore it. Although it recognized the iPod's name, it wouldn't list any of the other information on it (playlists, etc.). The only other option I had was to eject it. I didn't understand why with no changes to my iPod or iTunes I would have to set it up again or restore it all of a sudden. When I called apple support, I was told that, "there was a problem that has been fixed and now in order for it to stay fixed, you have to restore it one more time." The lady that told me this got this from a product specialist. So I asked her what was the problem? Was it with iTunes or my iPod? How did it get fixed? She couldn't answer these questions but said that something kept updating and since it has been fixed but sees certain issues on the iPod, it wants to restore it so I had no choice but to restore it. Okay. I never updated iTunes 8 since the first time I downloaded it in September. So, why is it updating itself anyway??? Or is it something else that is updating itself? What's updating when I haven't done anything at all? I don't get it. I asked her if I could speak to the specialist myself because I'd like to be able prevent this from happening again (and to just have a basic understanding of what happened). She said I could and put me on hold and nobody ever picked up. I called back and a very nice guy answered that said that these things just happen sometimes (like once a year). I'm not really angry with them. They didn't make the things. I just want to know why it happened. Does anyone out there have an explanation? Have you had this experience?
Sorry. I'm just realizing this is in the wrong area. I don't post that often....I'll try to get an answer elsewhere.

    Welcome to the discussions,
are you using the same iTunes account? If no, did you authorize iTunes with his account info again before you connected his phone?
To keep your accounts separate on one PC, create a new windows user, log in, disable autosync in iTunes, set up the second account and back up manually by right clicking on the device in the device list and choosing "backup". This will save data, pictures taken with the phone and settings to itunes. See what's included in this backup here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
Transfer your purchases the same way to copy all apps and bought media from the Store to your computer. Music, unless bought in iTunes and transferred with your purchases, is not part of the backup. But you can share music between different accounts on one computer: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1203
Set up at least one contact and event on your computer to be able the merge your calendars and contacts after your phone got wiped during the first sync.
The rest of the data can be restored from the backup you made.

  • The iPod 'iPod' could not be restored. An unknown error occured(9).

I got my iPTouch 16 GB on Oct.13 and on hooking to XP SP2 PC got it on the iTunes ver 7.4.3.1, was able to download music after charging. iTunes showed that a new software ver 1.1.1 for iPTouch was available(of150MB).Got it downloaded to iTunes but when it started to download to iPTouch, it failed and asked to do resotre. All this happened in just few hours of getting it.
Since then, even after reinstalling the iTunes, my iPTouch is not going beyond showing the icon of a plug and a CD.Every time iTune is able to detect the iPTouch saying that it has detected an iPod in recovery mode, you must restore it. And on doing so that error of 'The iPod 'iPod' could not be restored. An unknown error occured(9).' comes up and it again asks to restore.
Though every time iTunes is able to detect an iPTouch, my XP does not show it in 'my computer' as any hooked device or drive.
May I request Apple and other members on this forum to help me out. It is clearly a software problem.
    Many thanks in advance.

Thanks to all members for sharing in. In my case finally, I got a brand new replacement from Apple through their Authorised Service Provider,A-1 Infotech, Mumbai. Since in India, Apple does not have a widespread presence, the service and support I got was amazing.
In my case though I never came to know whether the problem was of software or hardware, but the simultaneous step I had taken was to call the toll free number of Apple in India and got my problem registered. Since the iPod Touch was under warranty, I got it replaced without much hassels. I advise the same path for other users and if possible get the additional Apple Care Protection Plan for additional one more year.
Though I have yet to find out how to avail that Protection Plan in India.
    Best wishes,

  • "The iPod could not be restored. An unknown error has occurred (1418)" Help!

Hope someone can please help me.
iTunes is asking me to restore my iPod, but an error occurs each time. This is the chain of events.
    1) I connected my iPod to iTunes and it asked if I wanted to update iPod software. I clicked yes.
    2) The iPod then changed from a colour screen to a monochrome screen.
    3) I then had problems with my USB Connection/Driver which I have now resolved.
    4) My iPod asked me to connect to iTunes and restore.
    5) I connect to iTunes and the following message appears
"iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes" So I clicked the restore button.
    6) The restore progresses until the following message appears
"The iPod 'iPod' could not be restored. An unknown error has occurred. (1418).
Basically I have read everything I could get my hands on to try and solve but nothing seems to work.
Really looking forward to some solution.
    Cheers.

  • IPod touch troubleshooting with restoring.

The other day my iPod stopped working. I went to turn it on the screen flashed white several times and I ended up with it asking me to connect it to iTunes. I connected it to iTunes and it said that my iPod could not be restored (40) I've done all of the troubleshooting Apple recommends and it still didn't restore itself. Now I'm getting error code 20 and 40 back and forth. Can someone please help me it's only three years old. In addition my iPod will connect to my iTunes, but it will not show up in my computer drivers as it normally would should it be connected. I've tried uninstalling the Apple drivers and such disabling my security and so on but it still won't work. If anyone knows anything or has some hint on how to fix this thing it would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

The link at the end says:
Error 23, 28, 29, 40, 1002, 1011, 1012, 1014, 1611: These errors may indicate a hardware issue with your device. Follow the steps in this article and also attempt to restore while connected with a known-good 30-pin Dock Connector cable, computer, and network to isolate this issue to the device. If the MAC address is missing or the IMEI is the default value (00 499901 064000 0), this can also confirm a hardware issue.
