Ipod constantly displaying 'do not disconnect'

I just changed the options settings on my iPod nano, so that it is unlocked9i couldnt delete songs before) and now my ipod constantly displays the DND messga,e until I manually eject(ctrl+e)from itunes, whcih then allows me to charge my ipod.
Is there anyway I can revert to the old, DNC message for a few seconds, then everything is normal and operational?

Once you disconnect (manually), it should start charging normally, and if you hit a button, be in normal operation mode.

Nano is not being recognized when plugged into computer. Charges fine, but Itunes will not recognize it, and it can no longer be put to sleep by holding the pause/play button. Will not play music either, as it is constantly on the "Do Not Disconnect" screen, even when not plugged in. Tried connecting to computer and restarting, still nothing. Any suggestions?

why my ipodmy ipod displays do not disconnect and wont sync but can be restored?

If it is a problem than I have it too. Mine does the
same as long as I don't stop the device via the
little green arrow icon (USB manager) down by the
    clock.
I never really need to use the Ipod when it is hooked
into the PC because everything is done through
iTunes. I just thought it said "do not disconnect"
because it was associated with both iTunes and the PC
    as a hard disk.
If I stop the device or "eject" the iPod, it goes
from do not disconnect to the normal menu tree.
So when you take the USB cable out of the iPod, it goes back to normal?
If that's what you mean, mine does that too.
It's just that I read that if you remove the USB cable from your iPod while it says 'do not disconnect', it can wipe all your music....

  • IPod continuously flashes "Do not Disconnect" even when set to automatic.

iPod continuously flashes "Do not Disconnect" even though iTunes says "Update is Complete" and even when set to automatic update. It mounts both in iTunes and on the Desktop.
Any suggestions on how to fix this?
I have alredy tried rebooting both the iPod and computer.
    Thanks.

    Patrick,
    Welcome to the discussions.
Sounds like you've got Disk Use enabled. Try unchecking the Box "Enable Disk Use" under iTunes>Preferences>iPod Tab.

  • IPOD *ALWAYS* flashes DO NOT DISCONNECT

IPOD ALWAYS flashes DO NOT DISCONNECT when connected to my computer. How do I fix that??

Personally I would, from the information you have given, reset my iPod and/or restore it and then try it again. If this still happens repeat the process but re-install iTunes and QT.
I know this is not a quick resolve but, personally, these things must be done before doing much else since it could be a number of reasons this could be happening - try the more obvious approach first (if you haven't already). If this still does not work then I will not be able to help, there are others here that certainly know more than I do - failing that visit an Apple Store if possible since I would have a guess at stating its more an iPod problem than the software on your computer.

  • Help!  My iPod will not stop displaying "Do not Disconnect"

I have had my iPod since December 2004 and sync with iTunes on Windows XP. I have had no troubles until I installed iTrip (FM transmitter). Now I encounter the problem that whenever iTunes updates my iPod, my iPod continues to display the "Do not disconnect" warning after iTunes says it's ok to disconnect. I have tried ejecting the disk, but it says it is using other files. The only way I can disconnect the iPod is shutting down the computer. I have reset the iPod and it continues to have this problem

I have tried ejecting the iPod mini, and I have made sure that using the iPod as disk was unchecked. Oddly enough, during this phase, the iPod does show up as a disk. Since this post I have found a way to get around the problem. I was using iTunes for subscribing to podcasts. I have stopped and delected the subscribed podcasts, and this seems to be working.

  • IPod stuck in Do Not Disconnect mode

I plugged in iPod in this evening and after a few mintued iTunes did not start up. I restarted the machine and still nothing.
Shut the machine down and disconnected it from the computer and now the iPod only has the Do Not Disconnect displayed on the screen.
I've tried resetting it but it's also stuck in hold mode. I've toggled the hold switch and no change.
I've tried connecting to different USB ports, different computers, and different dock cable but no change.
    Any suggestions?

I have been having the same problem as the OP and would ususally just let the ipod run out its battery. Seeing as this means you have no ipod for about a day I came on these forums. I didn't know how to reset the ipod until reading this thread and it worked for me. I was just wondering if there is a way to aviod the ipod hardlocking in the first place, its only started happening after I reformatted it from pc to mac.
    thanks.

  • Nano Just displays "Do not disconnect@

When nano is connected to pc only displays "do not disconect" and does not show up in iTunes (but windows can see it. Have re-started, re-loaded etc. Any help, please?

If your iPod is recognised by the computer and iTunes, then the answer could be as simple as you have your iPod enabled for disk use. If this option is switched on then the Do Not Disconnect will stay there until you manually eject your iPod.
Connect your iPod and in iTunes go to Preferences>iPod. Under the Music tab see if your iPod set to automatically sync (automatically update songs and playlists) with iTunes and also has a tick in the box marked “enable disk use". Remove this tick and your iPod should automatically disconnect after it’s finished updating.
If you have your iPod set to manual update, the box will be greyed out and ticked by default, in that case use Safely Remove Hardware icon in the Windows system tray on your desktop or check this link: Safely Disconnect IPod

  • IPod stuck on "Do Not Disconnect."

whenever i plug in my ipod to my computer so it will recharge battery, it stays stuck on do not disconnect. it charges fine and all but i have to disconnect it with that "do not disconnect." sign up all the time, because it will simply not go away, even after itunes says "ipod update is complete."
could anyone give me some advise as to what i should do?
also one more thing while im posting a topic, when i play music or videos, my battery goes down, say if it was at middle green then i would play music for a while it would go down to red, then when i leave it alone, i pick it back up and the battery power went up a little bit. Is that normal? Also my battery life while playing a video is very surprisingly short, with half battery i can watch a half hour of video at best. Do you think i have a defective battery?

"i have to disconnect it with that "do not disconnect." sign up all the time, because it will simply not go away, even after itunes says "ipod update is complete"
Your iPod is probably enabled for disk use. If this option is switched on then the Do Not Disconnect will stay there until you manually eject your iPod. If an iPod set to manual update, the box will be greyed out and ticked by default and you are always have to eject it manually
Check your preferences, connect your iPod and in iTunes go to Preferences>iPod. Under the Music tab see if your iPod set to automatically sync (automatically update songs and playlists) with iTunes and also has a tick in the box marked “enable disk use". Remove this tick and your iPod should automatically disconnect after it’s finished updating.
"my battery goes down,.....then when i leave it alone, i pick it back up and the battery power went up a little bit. Is that normal?"
    Yes it is
"Also my battery life while playing a video is very surprisingly short, with half battery i can watch a half hour of video at best"
Video drains the battery much quicker, for a start it requires more processing power and the backlight is constantly on so you can view the images. Check out these articles:

  • IPod stuck on Do not disconnect screen.

My iPod is stuck on the Do not disconnect screen. It won't connect to the computer, shut off or reset. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

If you have your iPod set to transfer your music manually, then that “do not disconnect” message will continue to be displayed on your iPod until you manually eject it.
You can do this by clicking on the little eject icon next to the iPod listing in the source window of iTunes, or right click on it and select “eject”. There is also an iPod 'eject' icon in the lower right hand corner of iTunes. Another way would be to use the “safely remove hardware” icon in the system tray next to the clock (looks like a grey rectangle with a green arrow above it). Click on this then select your iPod. Or through Windows, select start/my computer, right click on the iPod, select eject. With a Mac, drag the iPod into the trash.
If you have your iPod set to automatically sync with iTunes version 7 or later, connect the iPod and when you see the summary screen, uncheck the box marked "enable disk use".
If you are using an earlier version of iTunes, right click on the iPod in the source list, select options and uncheck the same box.
In future your iPod should automatically disconnect after it’s finished transferring music.

  • My iPod frozen on "Do not disconnect" yet it does not appear in iTunes on my computer ?

My iPod seems to be frozen on "Do not disconnect" yet it does not appear in iTunes on my computer ? Eventually I did disconnect. It's remains frozen and shows almost full charge.

I'm having similar problems. Here is exactly what happens to me:
I dock the iPod (I believe it is the 5th gen model, one of the first to play videos). Sometimes it syncs properly sometimes not. It will add songs not on my iPod, but it won't update the play count, last played, etc. The problem was fixed when I updated to a new version of iTunes (I believe it was 7.2 at the time, I could be wrong). So I played it off just being an iTunes issue. Well, with 2 updates since then, it has done it yet again. I've tried to restart the iPod using the menu+select key. It will work to remove the iPod, but it won't help in the future. The only way I can remove the iPod is to click on "Safely Remove Hardware." I know this isn't good for the iPod, but this is the only way that I can get the "Do not disconnect" icon off my iPod. Also, I tried to click "Eject iPod" (I've used this several times in emergency cases and worked wonders) but I get a message saying "iPod is in use by another windows program." I couldn't imagine what program is using my iPod. As far as I know, iTunes is the only program that can use the iPod on my computer. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
