Ipod continually pauses, even when locked

I have a 5th generation ipod, which I bought in the U.S. but it seems since I have moved to europe, my ipod continually pauses, even when it is locked on. This problem seems to occour more when people are using 2 way radios near by, such as train stations or on the highway when passing trucks. I work in the marine industry which is constantly using 2 way radios, and this has become such a frustration, that I stopped using my ipod for the last few months. I have tried resetting my ipod, but this hasn't seemed to fix it. Any help regarding this would be greatly appreciated

the only thing i can think of is if the earphone jack is removed from the socket, the iPod automatically pauses..

  • My ipod keeps pausing even when the hold switch is on.

I was out snowblowing the other day and I was listening to my music. I had the hold button on, and my ipod kept pausing. I was not even bumping the unit. It was in my chest coat pocket. I don't know if maybe it was the cold. Anyone have a similiar issue?

Normally, even if the switch is ON, you should be able to do a Restore on the iPod (using iTunes).  So, I would try doing that, from the iPod's Summary tab in iTunes.  It will erase the iPod, but more importantly in this case, re-install the latest software set to default settings.
Hopefully, you have all the music in your iTunes library, because if Restore works, you can just re-sync the iPod.

  • IPod turns itself on, even when locked!

    Hi all,
My mini, even when locked, turns itself on. Do you think its a battery issue? Its 3 years old, and the battery doesn't stay charged as long as it should, espeically when it plays by itself. I was going to replace the battery to see if that helps, but wanted to see if there could be another reason for it to keep turning on without me!

You most likely have an alarm set.
To check go to extras/clock/alarm and set it to off. Check the calendar also, extras/calendar/alarm.

  • How to see iPod in DEVICES even when disconnected

    Hello everyone,
I previously was running (v6?) of iTunes, but today upgraded it to v7 because I was unable to listen to iTune purchased music on the iPod. Thankfully that and an upgrade to the iPod shuffle s/w to 1.1.5 has cured that problem.
However whereas previously even when they were disconnected, I was able to see our 2 iPods in the DEVICES section of iTunes, now they disappear altogether until they are connected via the USB cable. I can't remember how I got iTunes to continue in showing the iPods when disconnected, presumably it was in one of the menu options somewhere, but after going into each of the menus on v7 I cannot find what I need to do. I've tried searching the apple web-sites, these forums, google etc, but cannot find anything anywhere on how to do this in v7.
Hopefully someone will be able to answer my question.
    Thanks
    Ian S.

Why in the world did Apple remove a useful feature from itunes? Probably because it was so poorly implemented in itunes 6 that no mortal windows user could figure out how to turn it on or off. I'm still praying that the competition will develop a player as good as the ipod so that I won't have to be a slave to this infuriating software.
Sorry. I just need to rant. I'm tired of continually being forced by Apple to rethink how I organize my data. How nice it would be if there was really a windows version of itunes that allowed windows users to retain their boring but trusted ways.

  • IPod Nano turns on automatically, even when locked

My iPod sits flat on my desk, and I notice that it turns on several times throughout the day without me ever touching it. Oddly, I've only noticed this happen while it was in the locked position, and one day it ran down my battery. HELP!!!

It's very possible it's sitting next to my cell phone when this happens. Definitely some of the time if not all of the time. Although the battery just ran down again overnight (while it was turned off and in the locked position) when it appeared to be half-charged, and it wasn't next to the phone at that time. Perhaps I'm having two problems - maybe I need a new battery.
But how would the cell phone affect my iPod? Interesting...

  • Is it possible to prevent my iPod from going silent when locked?

The reason is that I use HwBrowser to download mp3 files which are not available as podcasts, but when I listen to them, I need to keep my iPod awake all the time or the sound stops. Now it wasn't always like that, I used to have no problem listening to files while the device is locked.

Only if one of these programs will kick the iPod out of recovery mode, I doubt they will.

  • Is it normal to see my iPod in Explorer even when disk space is turned off?

For a while, I was using disk space to store stuff. After buying an external and trying to move files over to it, several files were somehow corrupted, causing several problems with Windows wanting to reformat my iPod. I ended up resetting the iPod to fix that... but now I can see my iPod in Windows Explorer, even though disk space is turned off. Is that normal?

When its off, it will allow you to use your iPod while still plugged in provided its done syncing and it shouldn't disappear from iTunes unless disconnected.
This part has bugged me since somewhere around iTunes v7.1 ... it used to be that with disk mode disabled you could auto-sync your iPod, leave it connected to iTunes, make changes to your library (e.g. new playlists, update tags) and then re-sync the iPod (right-click/re-sync). Now, once the iPod completes the auto-sync it disconnects from iTunes (but stays in the source column) and in order to re-sync the iPod after making library changes, you have to physically disconnect and re-connect it. It didn't used to be this way ...
Actually the way it always worked for me with my older ipod I had was if i clicked sync while it was disconnected by still showing up in itunes, it would connect back and sync again and then when done go back to where its in the source list but disconnected.

  • Ipod nano syncs even when itunes not open

When I plug in my iPod Nano 6th Gen it shows its Synchronizing screen for several minutes, even though I've setup iTunes to NOT sync. Indeed, iTunes may not even be open when I plug in, but the Synchronizing screen still displays. Is the Nano actually "synching" or is this just some sort of programming flaw? Is there any way to make the Nano perform as I specify?

No, it is not actually syncing, but instead preparing itself for a sync operation and properly configuring itself to connect and communicate with your PC.  So no need to worry.

  • Ipod nano pauses even w/out earphones in

My IPod Nano 5th generation pauses itself even if no earphones are in;  if it pauses without the earphones I can't hear it w/out exiting the song and starting over.

Does this happen with every track or only certain tracks in particular?  Are you unplugging the headphones during playback of a track?
Have you tried a hard reset to see if that clears things up?  To do this, press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.

  • IPod Touch turns off when lock button is pressed.

My father accidentally put my dog's cage on top of my iPod Touch...surprisingly it was fine. Or so I thought. A few minutes later the volume started acting strange, which I think was a problem with the button. Somehow I fixed that after playing around with it. But when I pressed the lock button, the iPod turned off, and wouldn't turn back on, as if it had no battery life whatsoever. When I got home, I plugged it in, and thankfully it responded. I thought it was fine, until I tried to press the lock button again. It completely dies every time the button is pressed. Which I suppose is alright, as long as I never press that button again but that's rather annoying. Any ideas on what to do with that?

Sounds like you have a internal connection problem in the iPod. I would make an appointment at the Genius Bar of a local Apple store.

  • Ipod Dies overnight EVEN WHEN TURNED OFF

    Background info:
The Ipod after fully charging can last around 8-9 hours of USE (straight music playing) so the battery seems to me like it is fine as it holds a nice long charge of use.
BUT when I turn it off fully charged as I go to sleep, it will be dead in the morning. Its like it uses the same amount of battery whether its playing music or turned off. Now I know its supposed to be using some battery because the pod is not fully 'off' but clearly it should not be dying at the same rate it is playing.
I have done the 5 Rs to no avail. I thought I had found the problem from an alarm I had set because on a different forum people said that can drain battery along with calender alarms. Made sure I had none of these turned on even tried the 5 Rs again and after all of this still no go.
Is the only explanation that my battery is dead? Then why does it hold such a long charge? And I would hate to buy a battery replacement only to find out that it is something else. It ***** because my warranty is long expired and I cant even post at the apple forums (unless I am just dumb and cant find the 'New Thread' button.
But does anyone have any solutions? It is REALLY bugging me.

Do you place the ipod in the dock during the night? I did this once and the other day the battery was almost empty because it kept on playing after it rested in the dock.

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

You sure can run a Windows Form and while it is visible, run code in the Powershell script, and communicate the information from the 'main' script  to the form.
To do this you need create a separate Powershell runspace and dependent on situation either use shared memory and timer in the form or delegates to directly call form elements

  • Auto or Always Continue Action even when error is encountered

I have setup an action that selects a layer in my file and clears all smart filters and layer styles. I have setup another action that plays this previous action 10 times to ensure that all the layers are selected and formatted. However if it finds a layer that doesn't have a filter or layer style it gives me a warning box and asks if I want to continue playing the action. Is there a way to have it play through the action and automatically continue playing the action even if it encounters one of theses layers? This would be helpful since sometimes only a few of the layers have these filters or styles but I want all of them to be selected and cleared without me having to click continue several times.

Here is a script I cobbled together.  It will go through all the layers in a document and delete all smart filters and layer styles.
Copy it to a text file and save it with a .jsx extension.

  • [SOLVED] Even when locked, people can still use my computer

    Hi everyone,
I have a problem with my current setup. When X starts, it loads a bunch of programs and scripts and it takes a little while. This is why I want to be auto-logged in so that I do not have to wait extra time after logging in. The way I do this is auto-log into tty1, automatically start X and run xscreensaver to lock the screen. In the background all of my programs and scripts run as they should be.
Then I still have to type my password to be able to use my laptop.
The problem is that someone could type Ctrl+Alt+F1 when confronted to the locked screen. Then, in tty1, one can Ctrl+C startx and thus have access to a prompt.
I want to avoid that. I don't want to be logged out automatically when X exits.
In my opinion, there are two ways to do that. Either I find a way to tell xscreensaver or slock or whatever to capture Ctrl+Alt+<key> combinations or I totally remove the possibility to switch to tty1.
Do you know how to do one or the other ? Do you have a better idea of how to deal with this issue ?
    Thank you for your time,
    yms

    Lets do some threat modeling.
Hi-Tech Threat: Experienced Linux user looking to steal your data, if they get to any tty then win. Now the possibility your going to meet this threat? Very low. Unless you hang around a bunch of blackhat hackers.
Mid-Tech Threat: Normal end user, may have a little Linux experienced but mainly uses Windows, probably a power user in Windows. Probability you meet this threat is also low. This threat wouldnt necessarily know how to switch to vc1 and then probably not know how to startx or use a console.
Low-Tech Threat: Normal Windows user. You are most likely to have this kind of person using your computer. They wouldnt know shit about how to get to vc1 and startx and if they managed to get to vc1 they are still fucked because they cant figure out how to use anything.
So unless you hang around alot of potential Hi-Tech and Mid-Tech threats you really dont have to worry.
p.s. You have more to worry about if someone can ssh into your machine or exploit some service your running.
