IPod Controls on 3G vs 3GS

Can anyone point to how/if this is a setting that can be changed:
On my 3G, when playing music, a "track time meter", with a 'repeat' icon on the left, a 'Genius' icon in the center, and a 'shuffle' on the right, appear. But on my friend's 3GS, that meter isn't visible.
Is this standard? Is there any way to change the 3GS iPod control to retain those same repeat, Genius, and shuffle features while playing a song?

The scrubber bar (the controls you're talking about) is toggled ON/OFF by tapping the album art (when in portrait orientation).

  • I updated my 3GS to iOS5, but when i double tap the home button, it doesn't show the camera app, just the ipod controls?

I badly need help, i just updated my 3GS to iOS5, but i don't see any difference, i don't have the new features that they're talking about. When i double tap the home button, it just shows the iPod controls and no camera app shows up.

My iPhone 3GS is still on iOS3 but I think you could already change what double tapping the Home button can do before iOS5, by tapping "Settings" -> "Home".  That may have changed in iOS5 but I don't think it should have.

  • HELP ! Ipod froze while syncing so I unplugged. Now not showing any music on Ipod or in Itunes but will show the songs in my ipod control

So basicly I was trying to figure out on how to get all my album art back on my 160gb Ipod Classic. It showed in itunes but not on my ipod. My cover flow was full of Question marks. Having 140gb of music ir was fustrating manually putting it back on to each album. This happened a few months ago. So the 5 or 6gb of new music i put on since this happened is on my Ipod and show in my coverflow on my Ipod.
It came to a point where i had to leave my computer and noticed that my ipod was still in a synchnnizing stage and seemed like it was frozen. Having to leave the computer I had to unplug the ipod. By doing so, when i turned it on it said that i had no songs on my Ipod. When plugged into my itunes it also says no songs but at the bottom of the itunes screen it shows there is 140gb of "other Information" with 1.5 gb remaining but not music. I can see all the songs in my Edrive>al's Ipod> Ipod Control> Music folder. I have had a few different computers since this new ipod has music from ages ago from an old 30gb classic and have transfered over the years on multiple computers (so restoring or syncing to this computer is out of the question). Thus all the ratings and playlist are very dear to me. Hundreds of hours invested in this ipod OVER 6 Years. It seems like there is some file missing or needed to link everything together.
I have spent endless hours trying many diffferent aproches. Like one forum said go into AL'S IPOD>IPOD CONTROL>ITUNES.. when in there they said to look for a file called ITunesDB and another called ITunesD8.old and switch them and rename ITunesD8.old_mlpmp but i only have the ituned DB not the ItunesDB.old
    I also tried
Also when i plug in my ipod a notice in windows says "DO YOU WANT TO SCAN AND FIX E>AL'S IPOD
There might be a problem with some files on this device or disc. This can happen if you
remove the device or disc before all files have been writen to it
                                                                                          SCAN AND FIX (RECOMMENDED)
this will prevent future problems when copying files to this device or disc
                                                                                                               OR
                                                                                                CONTINUE WITHOUT SCANNING
So i figure the problem started when i went into my control panel and chose show all hidden files so i can look at my files in the Ipod_control and was fooling around with the preference area by selecting the read only icon and disabling the hidden icon. I tried reversing this before ejecting my ipod but it was stuck in the Synchronizing do not disconnect mode and would not eject. Everytime i did try to eject it said in itunes with a yellow triangle saying " files or folders are in use in another area and cannot eject" even tho everyting has been closed......
ANY IDEAS ON HOW TO FIX??????? THANKS FOR YOUR TIME

A bit confused by your statement

. I do not understand why the music is clearly on the Ipod but wont reconize it anywhere.
Are you seeing your music listed in the iPod screen, or in Win explorer as in your earlier post?
I can see all the songs in my Edrive>al's Ipod> Ipod Control> Music folder.
A corrupted iPod database, will report zero music used, and have your music size reported as others, so you wont see the music in the iPod screen. Sorry, I thought there was some hope for you with iPodAccess, in recovery of the corrupted iPod database with your ratings.
You can try to borrow and  use the Mac Disk Utility ->First Aid ->Repair.
Of course, if your iPod Hardisk is in a bad state, from the Disk Diagnostic report, then all my suggestion are futile.

Is it possible to transfer music from an Ipod Nano to my Iphone 3gs without erasing the music already on my phone?

my ipod app no longer works. Everytime I go to open the ipod app it stays open for a second and then shuts down. I am not able to get anything to play either through the standard ipod controls or the multitasking control panel. I'm sure there will be an update soon to correct this, i just wanted to see if anyone else was having the same problem.
wen i open ipod in my iphone ,, it gets stuck ,, and get backs to the menu ,,, and doesnot play anything ,, not video nor song

If your phone is not officially unlocked by the carrier in the UK, you can not use the phone using another SIM, unless you modify the software or the SIM, which can lead to unexpected results, such as non functioning apps.
Unauthorized modification of iPhone OS has been a major source of instability, disruption of services, and other issues

  • Double-pressing the home button doesn't bring up iPod controls

I recently got a new iPhone, and for the past year or so, I've been using my iPod Touch. I was very grateful that I could control my music from any app my merely double-tapping the home button.
Now, however, it gives me a myriad of options for what double-tapping the home button does, including going to the phone or camera, but none of these are iPod controls. There is a tab that allows me to access the iPod controls while I'm listening to music, but if I pause it for even five seconds, when I double-tap the home button, it takes me out of whatever I'm doing. This is incredibly infuriating if I'm in the middle of playing a game, or writing an email.
Is there any way to make the iPhone always go to music controls when I double-tap the home button, whether the music is playing or not?
I'm not sure if the option to change the settings is new to 3.0, or if that's how the iPhone has always worked, but either way, it's very annoying.
    Can anyone help?

oh I get what you're saying now.
unfortunately, you're not missing anything. that is how they have it set up in 3.0
if you're unhappy with this design, give Apple feedback at http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

  • Songs selected restarting the iPod. Corrupt iPod Control file?

My friend has a fifth gen iPod that seems to be on the fritz. Apparently the songs she loads on the iPod don't work when she disconnects it. The she tries to select them, the iPod turns off and then restarts. Has any one had this problem before or knows how to fix it? She's tried the built in error check tool and ran the diagnostic. Here is the log from the diagnostic:

Thanks for the advice, but unfortunately I know that the songs aren't affected by the EQ. I'm pretty sure that it is either one song that is corrupt that is causing this to happen or that the iPod Control file that manages the loading and playing of the music is corrupt somehow.
Yeah, I really don't expect too many people to even understand what that diagnostic garble actually means let a lone read it. I did notice after I posted this that the iTunesHelper was not running at the time. Since my friend lives in a different state I really can't check to see if it's on or not. I'm going to see if I can just restart the iTunesHelper (if I can figure out how) and see if that does the trick.

  • IPod music and videos gone; can't locate iPod Controls

this has just happened to me.
i double clicked on a song to play, while my iPod was patched into my computer. it started playing, and i clicked up in the now playing portion to skip through part of the song. everything is now gone. i got a new computer because my old one had crashed out. The computer is 3 days old and Today (day of the problem) is the third day i've been using my iPod in the exact same way, and I have been used it this way on my old computer since December. for the record i manually update, and since my old computer is crashed out i cannot simply resynch. also, when i reconnected my iPod after the problem it wanted me to go thru the same process as when your iPod is brand new (naming, choosing auto update or not, register).
Could it be that when i installed a more current version of iTunes/iPod software, the i Pod erased from an update or something?
If so, why would it do this now and not three days ago when i first plugged my iPod into my new computer with the new iTunes/iPod software?
Lastly, I noticed others who have had a similar problem were able to recover their music by going into the iPod through My Computer and going to a iPod control folder, then to a music folder. I can't find either in my iPod, or anywhere on my computer. The only files in there are Calendars, Contacts, Notes (none of which i ever used) and Photos (and all of my photos were still there, giving me hope my music and videos are still there somewhere). Does anyone know how I can find it?

also, when i reconnected my iPod after the problem it wanted me to go thru the same process as when your iPod is brand new (naming, choosing auto update or not, register).
hmmmm. with that symptom, we'd better check on this possibility:
Windows confuses iPod with network drive and may keep iPod from mounting or songs may seem to disappear
you might have to put the ipod into disk mode to get her to show up in Disk Management:

  • Have to double-tap home button TWICE to bring up iPod Control on 3.1.2 ?

I noticed it takes more time for the iphone to wake up after I press the home button on 3.1.2 . Usually it's instant, now it takes roughly 1.5 second now. And I have to double-tap the home button twice (four times total)when I need the iPod Control(<<,>,>>), the phone doesn't respond to the first double-tap. It only wakes the screen up,then I have to do it again. This is so frustrating especially when I need to switch songs.
BTW, this happens everytime when the phone is asleep for more than 20 seconds. If I double-tap when the phone has just been put to sleep (<20 seconds), the iPod Control comes up normal.
And it's normal when it's connected to a PC, the screen wakes instantly.
    Anyone had this issue ?

oh I get what you're saying now.
unfortunately, you're not missing anything. that is how they have it set up in 3.0

  • IPOD controls missing the 30 second rewind and speed features

Hi... what a shame. I love that the ipod now has the rewind 30 second feature and the speed settings for audiobooks... but they forgot the most important part. Most of the time, when you need to use these, your screen is off. When I turn IPOD controls on, these great features don't appear.. only when I slide my phone on. Which defeats most of the purpose (I'm listening to my audiobook, something interrupts me, and I need to go back a little). Could this PLEASE be a feature of the next software update? Thanks.

  • Im trying to transfer my songs to my itunes. ive tried wit all kinds of softwares and also manually. when i go to my computer and on ipod and select view show hidden files it dont show the ipod control folder. it only shows the dcim

my ipod been actin up lately. sometimes im just playing a song and all of a sudden it freezes or turns off. it dont do it often but it do. so im trying to transfer all my songs to my itunes or my computer. i have tried every software out there and it tells me that im missing a plugin. i have restored my ipod and had to start brand new. i have updated my itunes to make sure is not a update issue. i have the latest updates but is stil not doing it. so when i try to transfer the songs manually i go to my computer; my ipod; view folder options and select show hidden files. it dont even show the ipod control folder. it only shows dcim

You need a third-party program to get non-iTunes purchased music off the iPod.  Which have you tried? Th good ones cost like TouchCopy and PhoneView. Here are some others:

  • \iPod-Control\Music\F09 is corrupt

I have a 4th generation iPod that I use with my Dell computer with Windows XP. When I try to update my iPod through iTunes, only some of the songs from my library get transferred to my iPod. I then get a messeage in my notficiation area saying that "\iPod-Control\Music\F09 is corrupt, run chkdsk utility". I downloaded the latest iPod updater (6.26.2005), and installed the new software but I still have this problem. Can you please help? Thank you

An "Update" shouldn't fix one of these issues anyway. It doesn't rework the drives filesystem, which is where the error lies.
A Restore will fix it, by erasing the thing. Of course, that's overkill.
    Quicker fix:
    -Disconnect iPod, close iTunes.
-Using Task Manager, kill iPodService.exe. Or stop the iPod Service in the Services Control Panel.
-Connect the iPod. It'll mount as a drive letter but iTunes will not auto-launch.
-Open My Computer to get the drive letter of the iPod.
-Open a command prompt and run "chkdsk /f x:" where x is the drive letter of the iPod.
That'll fix the problem with any corrupted filespaces. Then you should be able to resync.

    - If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPod has been restored it will never show up. You can't use the FIndMyiPhone app  on the iPod since the app requires iOS 7
    - You can also wipe/erase the iPod and have the iPod play a sound via iCloud.
    - If not shown, then you will have to use the old fashioned way, like if you lost a wallet or purse.
    - Change the passwords for all accounts used on the iPod and report to police
    - There is no way to prevent someone from restoring the iPod (it erases it) using it unless you had iOS 7 on the device. With iOS 7, one has to enter the Apple ID and password to restore the device.

  • IPod Controls Not Working... Properly

    Hi,
I've had my iPod touch ever since the release month of iPhone OS 2.2 for iPod touch, and since then I've been able to conveniently double-click the Home Button at any point to bring up my iPod Controls. Now, since updating from iPhone OS 3.0 for iPod touch to iPhone OS 3.1 for iPod touch, double-clicking the Home Button brings me back to my Home Screen (or Music or whatever I set it to from General Settings), and I can only get iPod Controls if a song/track/whatever is already playing, or I am in my Sleep/Standby Screen. ****** off, I took my old iPod touch 1st Generation, (I have an iPod touch 2nd Generation 32GB), running iPhone OS 3.0 for iPod touch, and tested; the iPod Controls pop-up from any sector of the device by double-clicking the Home Button.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Killa
P.S: I'm really bored and ****** (because Half-Term Vacation ends tomorrow) so I'm taking it out by typing loads on my keyboard.

Yeah, Apple's firmware change affected the way the Touch behaves, nothing you can do about that.

  • Want iPhone/iPod controls while using Alpine KCA-420i interface.

    Hello:
I currently have a Alpine KCA-420i controller to interface with my iPhone. However I really don't like scrolling through music on the Alpine head unit (HU). I would prefer to use the iPhone's iPod interface however when I plug my phone in to the Alpine KCA-420i is disables the iPod controls on the phone and only allows the HU to control the music selection and playing. Does anyone know of work arounds for this?
BTW... it was stated that controlling the iPod from the HU is safer than from the iPod/iPhone itself but I beg to differ. It is a lot easier to navigate the iPhone menus and the small 3 line display on the Alpine HU.... you have to scroll forever on the HU.
    Thanks,
    Marvin

I have an alpine HU in my truck and I just use I believe its called Ai-net to RCA and then use a RCA to mini jack to plug in my iPhone. Works perfectly when listening to music and I receive a call it dims my music then I just swipe to answer not unlocking of phone to go to speaker phone. My only problem is I need a better quality RCA cord because I am getting GSM buzz through my stereo only when talking to someone through my car;s speakers.
