IPod Corrupt File-Help!!!

Okay, when I disconnected my iPod from windows, the folder with exclamation showed up. I downloaded the new iPOd software and restored my iPod (it wouldn't let me just update). Now when I connect my iPod it sloooowwws my computer up and is usually not recgonized. Finally it works and a error message pops up from the bottom-right clock taskbar. It read:
iTunes:iTunes.exe - Corrupt File
The file or directory \iPod_Control\Music\F06\EUYH.m4a
is corrupt and unreadable. Please run the Chkdsk utility
And songs be gin to slowly update onto the iPod, then after 19 or so songs the computer totally freezes for about twenty minutes, then the update stops and the last song updated has a by it.
Help me!!!

Thank you for the kind comments Mitch!
To be honest, I'm not bothered about who receives the Big Green Stars. As long as the folks in trouble are helped out, I'm all for the award of points to whoever takes the responsibility of pointing them in the right direction.
Given that my time on Discussions is limited more than ever these days, I am particularly grateful to great folks such as your good self who point OPs in the right direction so they can resolve their issues rapidly. In my opinion, that in itself rightly deserves a Big Green Star and the points, because without folks who are adept at referrals, Discussions would be a very stagnant community.
So, please feel free to continue your excellent work! Usually I drop a post here and there to thank folks for their referrals, and more importantly, it also allows me to subscribe in so I can come back and offer more assistance if the OP needs more help.
All the best for now!
Kind regards,
Gopha.

When I hook up my iPod to my computer, I run Windows XP Professional on a Dell, I get a message on the bottom righ that reads
    iTunes:iTunes.exe - Corrupt File
The file or directory \iPod_Control\Device\SysInfo is currupt
and unreadable. Please run the Chkdsk utility.
I remember doing this before and nothing happened. iTunes still works, but sometimes when I want to put a CD on my iPod iTunes will act goofy and won't read the CDs, I'll have to restart the program. Any help with this?

    hi Eric!
the chkdsk issue isn't usually associated with CD hassles (at least, i don't think it is) ... so if you're still having troubles once you've got this one fixed, try reposting again over at Importing and Burning.
But for the chkdsk, you should first proceed to one of the two classic bodies of work in the field:

  • Corrupt file help when trying to SYNC

I just bought a used, clean, new looking IPOD and when i try to SYNC, i keep getting this meesage that this file is corrupt. The message says: DDEServer Corrupt file
    IPOD_Control/music/F20/WWJT.m4a
Does anyone know what this is, and how I can fix it. I have uninstalled and reinstalled ITUNES. I have restored settings on the IPOD. I give up.
You can email me direct if that's easier...[email protected]

I have exactly the same problem. How did you fix it? I gone through the Ipod manual and found nothing that helps me on this issue.

  • Corrupted files--HELP!

My saga begins a few months a go when at least two rolls of photos became corrupted when iPhoto 5.4 crashed several times in a row and I had to force quit several times in a row. At this point I panicked and quickly backed up my entire iphoto library (20 GB) minus the corrupted files from my external hard drive to a new external hard drive.
So, having backed up what I had, I went into iPhoto to investigate the problem. I opened up my original iphoto library in iPhoto 5.4 and two of the most recent rolls were listed but the thumbnails were blank (white with black outline) and I couldn't open them to view the original pic. I then searched for the "blank" files by the year/month/date system on the external hard drive. I found the appropriate year, but the folders for the months that the rolls should be in don't exist. In other words, I should have folders such as iphoto library/2006/11 (for the year/month) and iphoto library/2006/12 but they simply aren't there.
At this point, someone suggested that I rebuild my original iphoto library. That did nothing in terms of restoring the blank photos and thumbnails. Then I purchased iPhoto 06 hoping that a) I would get rid of my iphoto "freezing" problems that led to the corrput files in the first place and b) the process of installing iphoto 06 would retrieve any photos on my hard drive whose file paths had been corrupted and "corral" them back into iphoto. This was not successful. Not only are my missing files still missing, but iphoto 06 messed up the date stamps on all my other photos and reorganized them in a weird way. This isn't so critical but it makes me hesitant to get my original iphoto library involved with iphoto 06.
So here is my current situation. I have an original iphoto library that remains untouched by iphoto 06, but is missing (or contains corrupted) photos. In the iphoto library that I tinkered with and imported into iphoto 06, I can find the "missing" roll numbers (because '06 organizes by roll #), and in the folders for those rolls, there are the appropriate number of JPEG files, but each one has a file size of "ZERO" and cannot be opened or recognized by any application. Am I screwed?
    PLEASE HELP!

    canyonlew:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. When you say corrupted files what do you mean exactly? Are they the ones with a white thumbnail? Since you know the file names of those files, do a search of your Pictures folder for them to see if you can find any files with those file names. Check the size of those that you find so see if they are full sized image files or only thumbnails. If only small thumbnails then you've lost those files.
But for the rest of the photos give the following a try:
1 - copy the V5 Library folder to your desktop and name it Original Library.
2 - download and run BatChmod on the Original Library folder with the settings shown here, putting your administartive name in the owner and group sections. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field.
3 - launch iPhoto with the Option key depressed and, when asked, opt to locate and select the Original Library folder.
See if that won't open and convert the V5 folder to V6 and get all your files recognized. The full size files will now be located subfolders within the Originals folder inside your library folder.

  • Ipod nano with corrupt file  HELP!!!!!!!

I can only listen to songs already loaded. I cannot load anymore or delete any. I get a message that says
"iTunes has detected an iPod that appears to be corrupted. You may need to restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes. You may also try disconnecting and reconnecting the iPod." It won't let me restore, it comes up with the same message. What can I do? I'm so new to all of this, HELP

Ok. Soory about that. Ok, I get that you were responding, but apparently it is still easy to get mixed up.
I mean, I understand that you are trying to help (which your post actually does do, for Stasik's post), but it still had some attitude. I understand that you did not mean to have it be like that, so yeah. Plus, keep in mind I was really tired when I made my post, so when I am like that I am not particularly coherant (haha).
So, sorry for any misunderstanding, and whatever.
My post was aimed at 5carrs, the original poster, not Stasik.
Sorry for the misunderstanding! I hope we can continue on on a good note from now on! (I used on 3 times in one sentence...new record, haha).

  • Ipod Corrupt files/Itunes screwup

Okay, so my friend wanted some help with his ipod, so i went to help him. It turns up he has two files on his ipod that don't play because he recently deleted them from itunes (they don't delete from the ipod, but still show up). His computer rarely recognizes his ipod at all (about 1 in 25 tries) and when it does, it does not transfer his new songs onto his ipod. I've reinstalled itunes from the disk that came with his ipod, since he has a u2 ipod, it asks him to register it, and since i refused to do that, itunes doesn't recognize his ipod even when connected.
I feel really guilty about screwing up his already messed up problem, is there any advice that anyone can do to help?
    Thanks a bunch!

hmmmm. it might be worth checking on the possibility from the following troubleshooting document:

  • IPod corrupting files

Alright, so I bought my iPod a year and a few months ago, and it worked pretty great for the first couple months when I had to have it sent back to be repaired because it froze up. Now, at the end of the summer, I lent the iPod to a friend because his wasn't working and he was going on a trip and wanted to have music. He gave it back and there was no damage or anything. I hooked it up to my computer and cleared his music off. I started transferring my music using iTunes, and after a few songs it got caught up on one. It took about 5 minutes to stop completely screwing with my system (I couldn't use the computer for anything while it was doing this), and I tried that file again and the same thing happened. So I decided to delete it from the playlist and keep trying. A few songs transferred and then the same thing happened, and kept happening. The iPod was actually corrupting the music files and rendering them unplayable, even just in iTunes with the iPod not hooked up at all. This problem is still happening, and of course, my warranty expired right after the problem happened and I was out of the country shortly after and was not able to send it off to get repaired.
Has anyone else seen this problem, and is there any way to fix it? I don't understand why it corrupts seemingly random files - it'll do an abstract file from the same album that was ripped from a CD at the same time, and leave the rest alone.
    Thanks,
    Drew de Geofroy

Try this. When u plug you ipod in and itunes open up.Go to the Summary tab on the top. There you should see 3 boxes to check which ones you want active. For instance you can un-check the box that says "Open Itunes when ipod is connected"And check the box saying"Manually manage music and videos. Hope that helps

  • Photoshop Corrupted File Help?

I have read on here that several people are having issues with this particular thing but mine seemed a little different so I thought I would start a discussion and ask.
OK first off, I'm use photoshop 7 (old I know but meh, you use why you can afford), and I really have had no problems with ps, just the other day I was working on something anI just clicked to save it (which the progress bar showed it had started to) when all a sudden the power goes out! Aparently a char hit a transformer or pole or something nearby, or so I heard, and so when I went to open the document was corrupted.
it didnt say that the file was when I opened it and even when went to "open" instead of "open recient documents", the thumbnail showed my work was still there or at least to a point where I had been the previous time I saved. So when I open it, the file is just a one layered document (when it's supposed to have like 200+ layers) and it's all black.
i tried several of those restore programs but either you have to pay to get the save feature out of them (if I had that kind of money I would just buy a new ps...) or they just don't work...
now I'm not saying this is adobe's fault or anything so please don't be snarky or something about that, what I'm doing here is trying to see if anyone else might have had a very similar experience and possibly had a way to fix this issue.
thank you all for those who read and I look forward to reading your responses.

For the benefit of enlightened future readers of this thread, I mention for the umpteenth time in my 8 or 9 years in these Adobe forums that power outages are the reason why each and every one of my computers, their monitors and hard drives are connected to their individual APC-brand Back-UPS RS 1500 XS Uninterruptible Power Supply unit.
    http://www.apc.com/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=BX1500G
I have some of them for well over a decade and they have proven to be an excellent and wise investment over time, which in the grand scheme of things is fully justified.
A power outage can take out an unprotected hard drive as easily as it can corrupt the file(s) you were working on at the time.
It's all about safeguarding your work and your digital assets, not about offering unrequested excuses for not doing it.

  • IPod corrupted - Need help

Hi. I have a 30GB 5th Gen Ipod. Ive had it for about 2 years, never had a problem before, been absolutley brilliant.
Yesterday i plugged my iPod into my laptop and iTunes loaded up, i then saw a screen i had never seen before:
    SETUP YOUR IPOD
    NAME: MIKEYSIPO
[] AUTOMATICALLY SYNC SONGS AND VIDEOS TO ITUNES
[] AUTOMATICALLY SYNC PHOTOS TO ITUNES
This would suggest my ipod is new and has never been plugged into a PC or laptop before.
I disconnected my iPod and found that all of my songs are gone.
I connected it again and tried to put my library back on my ipod but it just refuses to accept the songs.
I went into the screen for Ipod settings and it shows 18GB of "Other" in memory. i know for a fact that is how much i had in songs and videos. So that means, my Ipod has all the songs and movies on my ipod, it just doesnt know they are songs and movies anymore.
Also, everytime i connect or disconnect the iPod i get a horrible clicking noise coming from inside the iPod, so it must be a Hard Drive problem.
What i need to know is, how did this happen? Is there any way i can fix it? I know i could restore my ipod but i am asking if there is any way i can fix it and keep the stuff already on my ipod.
    Thanks.

Your hard drive on your iPod may be dying. Restore the iPod and resync the songs from your computer, there is no easy way to recover the songs/movies that are on the iPod.

I don't have too much experience with iTunes on Windows, but things should work the same... Does your computer recognize your iPod? If it does, enable disk use in iTunes. Once the iPod is mounted, open it and rescue your files. You should be able to restore it then. If not, you'll have to format the iPod to erase the corrupt files and then restore it. Hope this helps!

  • Corrupt file error - ipod nano (HELP!)

Each time that I put a new CD into my computer and add it to my iTunes library so that I can transfer the songs onto my iPod nano I get a "corrupt file" error message relating to my iPod and I also get a pop-up asking me to register my iPod even though I've done this already. This happened again yesterday and this time ALL of the songs on my iPod were erased! I don't know what the problem is and why I'm getting this "corrupt file" message. I need help - does anyone know what I can do?

    hiya!
I get a "corrupt file" error message relating to my iPod and I also get a pop-up asking me to register my iPod even though I've done this already.
it's plausible here that you're getting the drive-confusion-related version of the chkdsk (based on the fact that you're constantly getting the iPod setup assistant).

  • Corrupt IPOD files - Help!?

    Hey guys,
Bought a new ipod last week and have been trying to get all the songs off my old 80GB ipod and I am having a lot of problems.
First up when plugged into a Vista or win 7 pc it kills Windows Explorer, I have tired a lot of different things on these Pc's and have ahd no joy.
This morning in work I tried an old XP machine and it has picked up the Ipod as an external drive so I connected an external drive so I could copy the music folder and start from there but it now looks like all the files are corrupt getting "cannot copy The parameter is incorrect" for any file I try to copy
Im pretty sure I already know the answer but does anyone have any ideas on what I can do to copy this music, I dont have it backed up or in Itunes, its only on my Ipod - Is there anything that can be done at all?

I would do a restore of your iPod.  Hold down play and menu button, wait for reboot, then hold down play still.  Should open upn in iTunes as recovery mode.  Click "Restore" and you should then have a fresh iPod.  Be careful of loading corrupt files!

  • Corrupt File.  Need help from iPod genius--please!

I keep getting these messages when I try to transfer songs from my computer to my iPod mini:
The file or directory \iPod_Control\iTunes\Temp File 1 is corrupt and unreadable. Please run the Chkdsk utility.
Windows was unable to save all the date for the file \Device\Harddisk1\DP(1)0-0+3\iPod_Control\Music\F10\Never Tear Us Apart.m4p. The date has been lost. This error may be caused by a failure of your computer hardware or network connection. Please try to save this file elsewhere.
I have tried to run the Chkdsk utility by going to Start, Run, and entering "Chkdsk," which does nothing.
I have only ever downloaded music from my own CDs, iTunes, or my friends disc (which isn't corrupt because she doesn't have any corrupt file problems).

    Heather,
You might like to start by checking out our current post on this issue:

  • I am begging for help.  Corrupt File?

I am about ready to throw my video iPod away. Just kidding. It's only 3 months old!
All my music/videos/TV shows disappeared. In addition, when I hooked it up to reload, I get this message:
(Exclamation Point) iTunes: iTunes.exe - Corrupt File
iPod_Control\iTunes\iTunesPrefs is corrupt & unreadable. Please run chkdsk utility.
First, I don't know what this means and secondly I got this msg also:
    Windows delayed write failed.
Unable to save all data for File F. Data has been lost. This error may be caused by a failure of computer hardware or network connection. Please try to save file elsewhere.
    Huh?
And last but not least, I did go into my computer and put the music library on my desktop as instructed in the troubleshooting menu. Then when I reloaded iTunes and tried to import the library, it said it was changed and deleted it. Now I have nothing in iTunes either.
I am near tears and any help is greatly apprecicated.

    hi Cyndy!
    iTunes: iTunes.exe - Corrupt File
iPod_Control\iTunes\iTunesPrefs is corrupt & unreadable. Please run chkdsk utility.
here is the best place to start with that error message:

  • HELP NEEDED - iTunes.exe -Corrupt File

I am getting this error message everytime I plug in my iPod to update thru iTunes.
    iTunes.exe - Corrupt File
The file or directory/iPod_ControliTunes/TempFile is corrupt & unreadable.
    Please run the Chkdsk utility.
So my question is....how do I backup all the songs and playlists so that I do not lose them. And then do I just run the dist that came with the iPod to start it over again and if so do I delete the old Itunes?
Plese help I would like to save the songs, restore iTunes somehow and be able to bring back the songs with nothing lost.

In Windows, the default location of your songs is:
    \Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes
Your 'iTunes library' file which hold all playlists, locations of songs, ratings etc. is located in:
    \Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl
Copy the complete iTunes directory to your backup device.
That way, you will copy all songs and library information.
After fixing the problem with the corrupt file, put the files back to the location they came from (if necessary).
In my very limited experience with the chkdsk utility, no files were lost, but it is always wise to have a backup in case something goes wrong.
    Hope this helps.

    P.S.
You will probably get more help by posting in the iTunes for Windows forum (this is the Mac forum)
