IPod corrupt, wont restore properly.

Hello,
I've read through some of the FAQs and the questions posted on the board, but nothing seemed to help my problem.
I am using a Fifth generation iPod (photo). A few days ago when i plugged my iPod onto my comp, iTunes recognised it to be corrupted and adviced me to restore it. So i did, following which i was asked to plug my iPod to an external power supply. I did that as well. Then i plugged the iPod back into the pc to sync songs from iTunes into the iPod. However, iTunes still recognised it as corrupted. And then i go through the same process again and again.
I went to an authorised service centre today, they managed to restore it and sync some songs into the iPod. But when i plugged the iPod into my comp, it said it was Macintosh-formatted or something, and asked to restore the iPod. I did that and now i'm back at where i was, the whole reformatting cycle.
Please help!
Before anyone asks, i just updated iTunes, and during the restore process 2, i allowed the bar to fill up first before removing it from the external plug.

*it said it was Macintosh-formatted or something, and asked to restore the iPod.*
The service center probably used a Mac to restore it. They should have asked you first.
Have you tried the basics? Did EVERYTHING work the way that it should have? If not, provide details.

  • TS1372 ipod classic wont restore or reset

ipod classic wont restore or reset error code 1415,,1417,

I assume you have seen this article regarding this error message.
    iPod: Cannot restore or update in iTunes with error 1415, 1417, 1418, 1428, 1429, 1430, 1436, or 1439
It could be an indication or a damaged or dying hard drive.  I would recommend doing a disk diagnostic on the iPod's HD using the instructions given by turingtest2 in this older thread.  He also covers what the resulting numbers indicate.

  • TS3694 iPod Touch wont restore

My ipod touch wont restore. When i connect it to the computer it says the ipod is in recovery mode so i proceed to recover the ipod than a error message comes up saying the iPod cannot be restored (1). Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

    ERROR (1)
I have not seen a solution for that error but try:
    - Place the iPod in DFU mode and then restore

    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • My 4th Generation Ipod Touch wont restore.

My Ipod starts to restore and it and then it says there is an error. I have done this numerous times and it keeps doing the same thing. Before it started doing this, it wouldn't even connect to my computer so I had to download Itunes on another laptop. Now it is doing this. This is my second iPod touch that I have had trouble with. If this does not get fixed I will never buy anything  in the Apple brand again. I should not have to deal with this.

  • My iPod touch wont restore due to error 1611.  Please help.

My ipod touch keeps showing a red low battery. It wont power on. I try to restore it and it says it cant restore due to error 1611. I tried diffident usb jacks. I uninstalled itunes an reinstalled. Among other things. Nothing works. Someone please help. I just want to restore it.

Hey i HAVE/HAD the same problem but right in THIS moment i solved it! And i'm gonna tell you how:
    1) You have to uninstall ALL the programs that are from Apple.
    2) Go into control panel if you are on a windows and delete everything that says Author (Apple inc.)
    3) Here is a list of every thing you have to Uninstall:
    Apple application support
    Apple mobile device support
    Apple software update
    Bonjour
    iTunes
    Quicktime player
    Safari
    4) After that just go to Apple.com and download the lastest version of iTunes!
    5) Install it and sync your iPhone/iPod Touch out of Recovery mode.
i hope that helped you, it sure did to me. bye

  • Vista/iTunes reports iPod corrupt (and Restore does not correct it)

I have a 16GB nano, a Dell laptop running Windows Vista Business Edition, and a home-built PC running Windows XP SP3. On the XP desktop machine, both Windows and iTunes work perfectly fine with the iPod. All is great.
On the Vista laptop, it's a no-go. Windows says there's a disk there, but only offers to format it (as if it's a new, unformatted disk; and if I let it, it reports a failure to format successfully). iTunes reports that it's corrupt and offers to restore it, but after restore process completes, it once again reports the problem and offers to restore it again. Interestingly, this iPod came formatted for Mac, and the restore process did/does successfully convert it to PC format. Only afterward, we're back to the usual error message.
I'm not sure if the issue is the laptop (and some funky USB hardware port thing), or if it's Vista (and some funky Vista software thing). Or, is it possible there's really something wrong with my iPod and XP overlooks it?
I've performed the 5 R's, and tried a lot of uninstall/reinstall/update the install with USB devices and drivers, with no change. I'm not really certain how to proceed. My gut tells me the iPod's ok; but I'd like to be sure.
I'd mostly like to verify that: (a) my iPod is really fine - and either - (b) the laptop has a hardware issue - or - (c) Vista has a software issue. If I solve the laptop/Vista issue, that would be icing on the cake (I'm content to use the XP machine for iTunes), but it's not critical as long as I can feel confident the iPod's okay after all.
Let me know if there's anything else I can tell you, or if you have any suggestions.
    Thank you!
    James

If necessary, post the results from the HD test and we'll figure out where to go from there.

  • 7th gen ipod nano wont restore i get error message (-23) problem downloading software for iPod!

I bought a refurb iPod and i guess its formated for a mac so it told me to restore it but i get the error message and for some reason when i pluged it in it asked me if i wanted to reformat "removable disc drive G" which i'm sure is the iPod it self. PLEASE Help other wise i'm going to return it. THANKS!

So you are getting Error 23 or not?
That error indicates you have security software that is interfering with the download of the software. Temporarily disable ALL of your antivirus/antispyware software and try again. And you do have to reformat it for a PC but this should happen when you restore it in iTunes.

  • Ipod classic wont Restore

Can anyone help!!! My friend gave me his ipod because he got a new one. Being an old git & not knowing much about things like this, I thought i would restore to factory settings to get rid of all is Rap music. So i connect it up to the pc, follow all the instructions. At the end of it it says to reconnect to a mains charger to complete restore. So thats what i did. The ipod still has a picture of a plug & wall socket on it. When pressing menu & select you can hear it rebooting & the apple logo comes up but after a few seconds it goes back to the picture of the plug & wall socket. Have I buggered it up or is there something else i should be doing.

It might be worth trying to get the iPod into disk mode so you can check it for errors before tying to restore it again.
Hold Menu+Select for about 6 seconds until it resets, then hold Menu+Play as soon as the Apple logo appears, again for about 6 seconds to put the machine in disk mode. Once in disk mode connect to your computer, then browse *My Computer* and right-click on the drive for the iPod, click Properties, then click Tools. Under Error-checking, click *Check Now*. Under Check disk options, select *Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors*. Click Start. Mac users should run *Disk Utility / Repair Disk* for the equivalent process. This should find and correct any errors in the logical & physical structures of your iPod's hard drive. Once these have been fixed you can reset the iPod (hold Menu+Select ) and should stand a better chance of a successful restore.
