IPod Corrupted, cannot erase or restore

I have an iPod 3G, I think...it's not the very first ipod, but the one that came after with 4 buttons across the top and the scroll wheel. It's the 40Gb version. It had been working fine, no issues at all. I downloaded some new tunes and plugged it into the dock to sync and got the message that it was corrupted and needed to be restored. Figuring after restoring, all my songs would just be re-synched, I went ahead and restored it. After that, it kept freezing when it tried to resync. Then the iPod wouldn't even mount on the desktop. I tried resetting it and running the built in disk scan, to no avail. Then I tried erasing it in Disk Utility. After the erase process, it would mount and iTunes would open and ask me to give it a name and then it would try to sync. It would add some of the songs and then freeze and the whole problem would happen again -- not mounting, needing to restore or erase, etc. I tried manually adding songs to it and got some on, but everntually the problem always recurs. I tried zeroing out all data in the erase process, figuring if there were bad blocks it would fix that, but could never get the process to complete. I even opened the case to see if all cables were correctly connected, or if there was excessive dust in there, which might be causing a problem -- nothing. I'm sure the fix is probably just to buy a new one, but I'd like to see if anyone has any ideas first...thanks!

You should try anapod explorer, the ipod recovery tool worked wonders for me, although your problem is not exactly the same. Try it, it worked for me on a pod that claimed it had no music, but i knew it wasnt erased. i tried many, many programs and this is the one. only windoze though

  • Ipod corrupted - cannot be restored

My iPod got stuck on "do not disconnect." It would not eject properly (I heard this can be a problem with Windows Vista but I update it frequently, so I should have already had the update that fixes this). It does not register on Itunes and is stuck. I tried to restore it, but it said "iPod corrupted - cannot be restored." What can you do to fix a "corrupted" iPod?

when i plug in my ipod classic it pops up ipod corrupted and i should restore the ipod but when i try it pops up unknown error 1415?

My suggestions, when Restoring the iPod.
Disconnect your PC from Internet. (just to make sure no nasties creep into your system while you syncing.
    Stop the Antivirus program
Connect your iPod to the PC, using a high speed USB 2.0 port at the back of your PC.
Disconnect all other USB devices, except the mouse and keyboard.
Stop all other programs except iTunes.
    Good Luck!

  • IPod corrupted, not letting me restore

When I try to update my iPod, iTunes tells me that my iPod is corrupted and needs to be restored. Then, when I try to restore it, it says that the iPod software is unavailable and cannot be downloaded. Also, my iPod shows up with the name "IPOD", not the name I gave it.
    Is there any known solution?
    EDIT:
I tried again and it said it was in "recovery mode" and I had to restore it, then I did and it said that the iPod could not be restored because of an unknown error.
iPod Video 30 GB Windows XP

I've just been getting this the last 2 weeks as well. I don't know what happened with the software. Am i missing some new ipod/itunes driver???
I usually plug in the ipod, then it shows this plain ipod page with a pop-up telling me it is corrupt and that i need to restore. So i click restore and it says that the software isn't available and it can't be restored. SO i do the typical and i pull the usb cable out and reset the ipod and plug it back in and everything works again. The ipod updates and charges.
I don't know what is exactly wrong but i can suffice.

  • Ipod "corrupted" and will not restore following logging on to itunes

Please please help!! I have recently bought 2 ipod classic's (120GB). I have previously had MP3 players and all of my music has been in either wma or mp3 format on the computer (through windows media). i have managed to convert all 500+ albums over to itunes but my ipod is now apparently corrupted "code 1439". I have tried everything on the apple website and it will not restore to factory settings. Th ipod itself is saying 0KB free even though there is nothing on it. I tried to download music from itunes and it got to three albums and then crashed. This is my second ipod, having sent the previous one back to the retailer. If anybody can help then it will be greatly appreciated. Computer runs on windows XP pro, Norton 360 installed, and all of my music is still in Windows media as well.

  • IPod cannot be updated/restored/ejected--files in use by another app

Since I downloaded iTunes7, I cannot update, restore, or eject my iPod from iTunes. I get the error "<iPod name> cannot be updated(restored, ejected) because it contains files in use by another application." I'm still able to sync music and tv shows with the old iPod software, but not movies. I eject it using the Safely Remove Hardware icon in my system tray, or from My Computer. I've tried disabling security programs and peripherals, and even sifting through the processes in Task Manager. I had no trouble ejecting prior to iTunes 7/7.0.1.
And yes, I've done the R's I'm able to do (Restore is not an option due to the nature of the error).

    Hi again, Corey!
In regard to "recovery mode" message, you'll most likely just need to restore your iPod. For more details, read here -> Restoring your iPod
If this message persists after restoring your iPod, try assigning your iPod a different drive letter; see these steps below:
Log off of any other users on your computer.
1 - Don’t plug in your iPod yet.
2 - Go to "START -> Control Panel -> Admin Tools (if you don't see this, click on "classic view" button on the left panel) -> Computer Management."
3 - Click on the "Disk Management" button in the left panel area.
4 - Now, with "Computer Management" and Control Panel windows opened, reset your iPod, and connect it.
5 - Right-click on your iPod's listing there (after a few moments when it gets recognized in this drive window), and click on "Change Drive letter and Paths". Then the "Change..." button.
Here's what it should look like:
Assign your iPod the letter "M" "N", "O" or the like (further along in the alphabet).

  • Ipod corrupted; Itunes 7 can't restore

Lo All, love the Ipod Mini, apart from the battery bugs, but I've had an enormous problem with my Ipod; it's corrupted. Also, to make things worse, my PC rarely picks the Ipod up as connected and, the one time it has, I've attempted to restore it, and Itunes comes up with an error message. Something like "Ipod; Ipod resource cannot be read" or something akin to that
Anyone got any suggestions? I'd love it if I could get this fixed without having to open it up; but if I have to I'll need a guide on it, as I don't have an Ipod replacement battery Kit
    Thanks!

    Is this any help?

  • How do I restore my ipod setting without erasing music on my ipod?

I lost  some music on my  ipod while it was connected to my itunes (after pressing something). I lost music files that were previously added from cds and from another computer. I had also lost my playlist. And lastly, when I my ipod is connected to my itunes, I am missing features that I used to have, such as being able to create a playlist directly onto my ipod (I no longer have "+" icon that allows me to add a playlist to my ipod), playing music on my ipod through itunes...and basically just manipulating music on my ipod via itunes in anyway. The list of music on my ipod is grayed out on itunes so I cannot do much of anything except add files from my itunes library to it.
Thus is there any way I can restore my settings on my ipod when connected to itunes, without erasing the current music files on my ipod?
This is very frustrating because I really just want to recover the  music and playlists I lost from my ipod, and I want to be able to have the settings restored when my ipod is connected to itunes. Senuti for windows cost money to restore music and I am not sure it will completly fix my issue anyways.
    Can anyone help?

Connect the iPod to the computer and restore via iTunes. If necessary, place the iPod in Recovery Mode to allow the restore.

  • IPod classic corrupted and won't restore on Windows

So I have an 80Gb iPod classic. While I was transferring some files something went wrong with the USB connection and iTunes immediately froze and so did my iPod. So I reconnected my iPod and now it won't let me transfer any files because it keeps getting stuck. Then I tried to restore and got an error that I was unable to restore. I disconnected my iPod and it seems like it restored because the next thing I knew everything has been wiped out. But when I connected it to my PC a message appears that the iPod is corrupted and a windows prompt appears telling me to format the disk. So here's what I've done.
    -formatted the iPod in FAT32
-connected the iPod, no 'iPod corrupted' message appears.
-tried to restore, but received the same error message, won't restore
-when iPod disconnected it went through the same cycle (iPod restoring-then iPod corrupted-iPod needs to be formatted)
-went to Apple service center, they restored it using a mac and everything went smoothly, song were able to be transferred without a glitch.
-however will not work on PC needs to be restored again
can someone help to shed some light? is there something wrong with the hard disk? If yes, then why can it be restored through mac but not windows?
what can i do to solve this problem?
    thanx

I was sort of relieved to read that I am not the only one with freezing issues.
I have been to the apple store twice only to be told there is nothing wrong and of course my warranty has expired !! I have the Model A1136 EMC No. 2065 80gig classic ipod. My dell computer is only 2 weeks old and works fantastic, however, when I open itunes and my ipod and it freezes, so does my pc and I have to do a task manager to get out of itunes and there are times when I can't and have to reboot my pc.
Well it has been two weeks now of me trying all that I can to fix the issue and only thing I can see so far that it freezes up when its in the analyzing the gapless sound upon adding music from my folders, etc etc. So I tried to "uncheck" everything that had to do with the sound and it worked. Oh and by the way, try setting your ipod on disk mode when you are trying to restore the ipod. It works better that way. Don't know what is going on but I am so angry with myself for being so attached to this ipod There is nothing out there that compares to my ipod and it's amazing the prices of mp3 that even come close to 80 gigs.
Good luck to all and if I find anything else to share, I certainly will Don't hesitate to email me if someone finds out or has a patch or something to get this thing going properly again bye for now ,,,,,,,,

my ipod shuffle cannot be restored not by the itunes nor by the reset utility it tolds me that it is in recovery mode , i tried to make every thing to resolve it but i can not what can i do ?

  • IPod 4th gen model: MD057LL/A cannot erase and apps don't work

I just got the device as part of a trade
On the outside its in brand new condition
But the software is a different story
Safari doesn't work, like at all, it either just freezes or if I try long enough I can get it to crash immediately
Mail does the same but whatever I honestly wish you could remove the forced apps
I can erase all network/keyboard etc settings and It works but data content wipe doesn't
BIGGEST issue: I can't erase the iPod where it says "erase all content and settings"
    And I can't update from iOS 6.1.5 to 6.1.6
Which worries me that more software issues can occur down the road
Or that the iPod could be probed but that's a different topic lol
When I attempt to erase all content and data it goes to the black loading screen but the bar does nothing then it goes to the loading circle
And I left it waiting for a solid 6 hours before resetting
And when I try to in iTunes it just says its waiting to update to 6.1.6, infinitely
When I attempt to update it, it does the update to finish then says "an error has occurred" and offers to close or go to settings
And when I try to on iTunes it just says its loading, and nothing else even when I leave it plugged in over night
Is there anything else I can try?
Maybe 3rd party software to force the update/data wipe? That's my only idea at this point

  • Cannot update or restore iPod Touch

My son has an iPod Touch with iOS 6.1.2 and he has forgotten his passcode. At the same time, his hard drive crashed, so his newly re-installed iTunes does not recognize the device without a passcode. Fortunately, we did sync the device on my MacBook Pro a couple years ago, so at least my machine sees it.
I was able to pull off all of the photos, apps, and music that he has purchased over the last year, so at least we have that backed up to my system.
When I put the iPod into recovery mode, iTunes insists on updating iOS to 6.1.5 before doing a restore. I click to agree to everything (no choice, really) and then wait the 10 minutes or so for it to download the ~850Mb update. After it downloads, my Mac sits and thinks about it for a couple of minutes, then iTunes says it is "processing" the download. A few seconds later an error message indicating a network timeout to the iPod is displayed. (Screen shot below.)
On some other postings it was suggested that the Internet connection for the computer needs to be disabled in order to sidestep the update. This, too, fails because iTunes will not do anything with the iPod unit it can contact the iTunes store.
The iPod is functional in every way (other than being locked because we cannot remember the passcode) and I'm running the latest version of iTunes on Mavericks. If I can get the silly iPod wiped then I can restore all of the apps and data to it manually, but I can't seem to get out of the gate.
    Suggestions?
    Thanks in advance!

Disabling the computer's antivirus and firewall during the download and update/restore usually resolves the network timeout error.

No.  Your iTunes library is your "master copy."  Doing a Restore on the iPod just erases the iPod, like deleting a playlist.  Your iTunes library is not affected in any way.

  • IPod Video, cannot restore or update.

My new iPod worked 1 time. The first time I loaded the software that came with my iPod, I was able to downloaded music to my iPod. Since then, I am not able to update my iPod with iTunes or with the software in my iPod.
I now cannot update or restore my iPod. iTunes does not recognize my iPod. When I try to retore or update, I get an error message that says, iPod service error. Sometimes, wrong iPod service, error message. I am not able to use the software that came with my iPod or iTunes for assistance. Geeeeezzee
God, 1 more thing. I tried to use the chat with support. the questions it asks was, what model? They didn't display my iPOD. Idiots. Another wuestion was, supply the serial number. For how to restore:
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software
    To restore from backup see:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
