Attempt to restore your iOS device two more times. If the issue is still unresolved, the device may need service.
The "device may need service" means a hardware problem. In that case make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • The iPod could not be restored - error code 1433

Just today I went to sync my 4th generation 20GB iPod with my Mac and iTunes gave me the following error message:
"iTunes has detected an iPod that appears to be corrupted. You may need to restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes. You may also try disconnected and reconnecting the iPod."
I tried disconnecting and reconnecting several times, but always got the same error. I then tried to restore the iPod. iTunes then hung for several minutes before presenting another dialog box with the following error message:
"The iPod "iPod" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1433)."
Upon clicking the More Information button I was directed to the following web page:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1372
I've tried restarting the computer and connecting the iPod to a different USB port. The windows suggestions would seem not to apply. I read somewhere else on these forums that the error code was previously triggered when people tried to update older iPods with the then-new iTunes 7.6. Is it possible that iTunes is unable to restore an iPod as old as mine?

From my experience it can be either an iPod or computer problem, try to prove it by doing a restore with another computer, if it works then you need to deal with the computer.
In my case, I finally found out it was the bad USB hub causing the problem ... don't use the hub without the external power

  • The iPod "iPod" could not be restored because it is busy

My 20g ipod started giving me trouble a few weeks ago after I loaded some post-Christmas purchases. It wouldn't load the last few songs, and it was half-empty, so capacity wasn't an issue.
I next tried to restore the iPod, but my mac mini then seized up, and the restart hung, so I had to do a hard restart.
Upon restart, the iPod was obviously now corrupted, with only a half-completed restore, so I tried again.
This time, and every time since, I get the following error message: The iPod "iPod" could not be restored because it is busy
So, I next followed the 5 R's, to no avail.
Disk Utility gives me the error Disk Erase failed Disk Erase failed with the error: Input/Output error
I also tried security erase, and while it starts with the overwrite, it eventually kicks out of the process with another I/O error.
Today, I downloaded iTunes 7.6 with the hope that it would fix this issue, as it has been surfacing in discussions pretty commonly. I thought this was reasonable, because of some difficulties with iTunes after the release of the iPhone were solved upon the next release of iTunes.
Unfortunately, I am facing the exact same situation.
There is one additional step I was able to take by trial and error, and one further step I am considering.
When I originally searched this topic, I came upon a "diagnostic mode" fix that's supposed to be accessed only by the iPod nano.
Using this mode, I was able to run several tests, and ram checks out, and one of the two disk tests come back fine.
Since I don't know what the alphabet test results mean, this was about all I was able to gather.
I attemmpted to use the diagnostic mode reset, but the problem continued.
My final thought, aside from waiting for a further iTunes update, was to dig out a third-party disk utility I have here somewhere and see if that will erase the iPod.
    Any suggestions out there?

I was able to solve this by (warning, this will void your warranty) taking the iPod apart, very carefully. Being careful not to separate the cables inside, place a folded business card on the hard disk, and place the metal half back on.
Do a Google search if you don't believe me.
Oh, and for the gent from Apple that removed the post containing URL with pictures of this fix, I do NOT receive any cash, complensation, self esteem or other recompense or good feeling from posting this fix, or directing people to search for it.

  • The iPod 'iPod' could not be restored. An unknown error occured(9).

I got my iPTouch 16 GB on Oct.13 and on hooking to XP SP2 PC got it on the iTunes ver 7.4.3.1, was able to download music after charging. iTunes showed that a new software ver 1.1.1 for iPTouch was available(of150MB).Got it downloaded to iTunes but when it started to download to iPTouch, it failed and asked to do resotre. All this happened in just few hours of getting it.
Since then, even after reinstalling the iTunes, my iPTouch is not going beyond showing the icon of a plug and a CD.Every time iTune is able to detect the iPTouch saying that it has detected an iPod in recovery mode, you must restore it. And on doing so that error of 'The iPod 'iPod' could not be restored. An unknown error occured(9).' comes up and it again asks to restore.
Though every time iTunes is able to detect an iPTouch, my XP does not show it in 'my computer' as any hooked device or drive.
May I request Apple and other members on this forum to help me out. It is clearly a software problem.
    Many thanks in advance.
    Jetavya

Thanks to all members for sharing in. In my case finally, I got a brand new replacement from Apple through their Authorised Service Provider,A-1 Infotech, Mumbai. Since in India, Apple does not have a widespread presence, the service and support I got was amazing.
In my case though I never came to know whether the problem was of software or hardware, but the simultaneous step I had taken was to call the toll free number of Apple in India and got my problem registered. Since the iPod Touch was under warranty, I got it replaced without much hassels. I advise the same path for other users and if possible get the additional Apple Care Protection Plan for additional one more year.
Though I have yet to find out how to avail that Protection Plan in India.
    Best wishes,

  • The iPod "iPod" could not be restored.  An unknown error occurred (6)

I know this type of error has been posted before but I've tried everything I've read in other posts and have not gotten anywhere.
When I try to restore my Ipod Touch, after it is into the restore for a while, I get the message:
+*The iPod "iPod" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (*6).+
    iPod Touch 1G
    Firmware 3.12
    What I've tried:
    - Rebooting host.
    - Resetting iPod Touch - Holding down home and power for 10 seconds
    - Using different computers with fresh versions of Itunes. Computers were running Vists, XP, and Windows 7.
    - Putting iPod touch into DFU mode (Hold down Home and power for 10 seconds then let go of power until iPod goes into DFU mode.
I always end up with The iPod "iPod" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (6).
I did get extended Apple care service but of course it ran out last month!
I did get a log from one of the failures if that would be of help.
    Any suggestions?
    Dave

Well my ipod is just out of warranty so I'm not sure if they will even look at it but I'll try tomorrow to bring it to the Apple store.

  • "The iPod could not be restored. An unknown error occurred. Error 1603" Help!

So I had recently jail broken my iPod(2G, 8MG), which was stupid of me and I regret it, but I kept having issues with it so I manually erased everything off my device from the settings straight on my iPod, then my iPod refused to go passed the apple logo when it restarted.
I have updated my iTunes, I have put my iPod in DFU mode multiple times and have tried restoring it and it doesn't work, then I press "shift" (I work on a Windows) and then click restore and my downloads file comes down and I click on the firmware I downloaded which is 4.2.1 I believe. It starts to restore, then after around 5 minutes I get the error message "The iPod could not be restored. An unknown error occured. Error 1603."
I'd love for some help, I'm starting to get frustrated and I do not have the money to buy a new iPod.

    Yu said: Jailbroken
Jailbreaking voids the Apple warranty and also means that you will not get any support from Apple, including from this Apple forum. Jailbreaking can't be discussed in this Apple forum.

  • "The iPod could not be restored. An unknown error has occurred (1418)" Help!

Hope someone can please help me.
iTunes is asking me to restore my iPod, but an error occurs each time. This is the chain of events.
    1) I connected my iPod to iTunes and it asked if I wanted to update iPod software. I clicked yes.
    2) The iPod then changed from a colour screen to a monochrome screen.
    3) I then had problems with my USB Connection/Driver which I have now resolved.
    4) My iPod asked me to connect to iTunes and restore.
    5) I connect to iTunes and the following message appears
"iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes" So I clicked the restore button.
    6) The restore progresses until the following message appears
"The iPod 'iPod' could not be restored. An unknown error has occurred. (1418).
Basically I have read everything I could get my hands on to try and solve but nothing seems to work.
Really looking forward to some solution.
    Cheers.

  • IPod could not be restored because the firmware file could not be found

Initial problem was no audio and skipping through songs at a rate of about 1 song per second.
Tried the 5 R's and that didn't help.
Installed iTunes 7 and then it wouldn't recognize the nano. Followed Apple's instructions when iPod not recognized, including uninstalling iTunes, uninstalling latent update installers, deleting the iTunes directory, clearing the recycle bin, deleting temp files, etc. Then reinstalled iTunes 7,
Plugged in my nano and Got the message, newer version of iPod software available, update software (version installed was 1.1.1 and newer version available was 1.2)? Clicked ok and that was the start of my troubles. That process failed and suggested that I restore to factory defaults (not exactly what I wanted to do, having to reload my songs, but went along).
Did a restore to factory settings and now get the message
The iPod could not be restored because the firmware file could not be found.
Anyone got any ideas how to update the firmware? I'm hopeful that a file can be downloaded to do this rather than sending in the nano to have it updated.
    <opinion on>
After an hour of updating software and a couple of hours of reading the forums looking for the answer, my eyes hurt, it's 2:30am, and I'm frustrated to the point of throwing this in the trash.
My kids have a shuffle and a mini and I've updated software on both with no problems before. If I realized I would have to become a system admin for iPods, I would never have invested.

  • The iPod "iPod" could not be restored. An unknown error has occurred (11).

I recieved an iPod from a friend of mine. He has bought a new one and is currently using it with his apple ID. I have plugged in the iPod he gave me and attempted to restore it. When it goes through most of the restoration process the error "The iPod "iPod" could not be restored. An unknown error has occurred (11)." pops up. The iPod is also stuck on a screen with a USB cord pointing twords the iTunes icon, i shut it off then turn back on and this image is still on the screen. The iPod also does not appear in MyComputer. It does appear in iTunes but it only has the name, no serial number, capacity, or software version. I also re-installed iTunes.  I am using windows 7 on my Toshiba Satellite A665 laptop.
I would appreciate any help that anyone has to offer.
    Thank you.
