Ipod crashed my laptop
My brother-in-law found an iPod and we were trying to find its owner. I plugged it into my Asus laptop (Windows 7) and opened iTunes. Apparently the iPod had been erased by the Find My iPhone facility. After a few minutes the whole computer froze. A new window started to pop up just before that but I can't remember what it said because it couldn't load; there were only two words visible on the task bar and one was "personal". I used the power key to hard reboot the computer. It cannot find the operating system at all, but after 2-3 minutes says, "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device." What did the iPod do to my computer and how can I fix it? I always keep my computer in very good health. I never used an iPod before, so I don't know what it's supposed to do. I have an iPhone.
This may help in the initial problem.
iTunes for Windows Vista or Windows 7: Troubleshooting unexpected quits, freezes, or launch issues
However, it appears you have a windows computer problem and will have to recover from that before you work with the iPOd.
You can try:
Booting from the install disk for windows and repairing the windows installation.
Otherwise you will have to reinstall windows

My laptop crashed about 2 days ago. I got it fixed and had to reinstall it. I had to reinstall itunes all over again. How do I transfer all my songs from my ipod including the ones that were from hardcopies and by hardcopies I mean cds I bought in real life and is on a disc. All of the songs are still on my ipod so how do I upload all of the songs and videos (purchases, music/songs from hardcopies/cds uploaded not bought from itunes, etc...?) How would I upload all of that back to itunes on my laptop? Another question is for some reason when I hook up my ipod to my laptop, I recently bought 23 songs about a day ago and it won't upload those purchases to my ipod, is it because I have all the hardcopies and downloads on my ipod that the itunes library doesnt have? Also, how would I sync my newest purchases to my ipod efficiently without deleting any of the hardcopies I uploaded before my laptop crashed?
phonefans is a spammer, ignore his posts.
If you are using iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
For all other non purchased music (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it can be messy.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player. -
I have all my CDs on my iPod, my old laptop crashed. How can I get my music to the cloud and/or my iPad

IPods crash and can't back up library - HELP
I have had an iPod mini for 1.5 years. My spouse got an iPod (30GB video) recently. When we switch between them to update songs from one library, the iPods crash and have to be reset (even that takes a few tries following instructions on iPod help).
I tried circumventing the problem by copying the library on my laptop from our PC (to have one iPod with one computer, both have XP Pro) with the USB drive but the library won't copy from USB drive to the new iTunes. (it will play songs from USB but won't copy them).
1. Can I backup the library on another computer?
2. What is the safest way to create a backup library (CDs in my experience may not last long)?
3. If we update the computer (hopefully soon) will that mean that we can't copy the library to a new commputer and will lose all the songs we bought?
4. How can we prevent either iPod from blocking or crashing?
Thanks for any advice and help.Update: Success! I used my iPod as an external hard drive following these instructions:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1329?viewlocale=en_US
After I reformatted I reinstalled my old iTunes 6 and dragged the folder back to My Music. At first, iTunes wuldn't sync a couple hundred songs to my iPod because I wasn't "authorized" so I had to enter my Apple ID and password. Downloaded latest software for Itunes and iPod and all is good.
Investing in an external hard drive still sounds like a good idea, since this was my first reformat and it was a bit nerve-wracking. -
I have never synced my iPod to any laptop before when i do so will i loose all my pictures?

Itunes 9 download crashes my laptop
Hi all,
I got a brand new Ipod for my birthday and on connecting it to my laptop it told me i needed at least itunes 9.0 for it to work.
I currently have itunes 8.1.2 and for some reason i can't install itunes 9.0.
Whenever the download is about 75% complete my laptop crashes, even task manager. And i have to manually reboot before i can do anything.
I've tried to download itunes 9.0 from the website but the same thing happens it crashes just when it begins to install Quicktime.
I uninstalled itunes and then when i tried to uninstall Quicktime again everything crashed. I have clicked repair as well and again it crashes my laptop.
Pleaseeee can someone help me i just want to get up and running with my lovely new ipod and am soo frustrated.
Thanks,
CaitlinI uninstalled itunes and then when i tried to uninstall Quicktime again everything crashed. I have clicked repair as well and again it crashes my laptop.
Good lord. That's a fairly dramatic symptom to have occur during an install/uninstall (nowadays), Caitlin.
My worry here is that there's some disk damage on the PC "underneath" some QuickTime program files. So when Windows Installer tries to remove those files, it hits the dodgy patch of disk, and everything turns to custard. (Usually with one of those sorts of problems you'd get a 2330 installation error message, but if the disk damage is of the right/wrong type, a freeze of the PC would also be quite plausible.)
Try running a disk check over the drive you've got your QuickTime program files installed on. Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors:
[Check your hard disk for errors|http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/Check-your-hard-disk-fo r-errors]
Does the disk check find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an iTunes/QuickTime install to go through properly afterwards? -
Transferring ITUNES-to-NANO music crashes XP Laptop
Hi,
[I've seen variations of this post, but not exact.]
I just received a new NANO for Christmas. Both times that I've tried to download from ITUNES to NANO on my XP laptop, my XP laptop crashes. Frozen. I have to reset my laptop. The NANO also hangs so I have to reset that (hold MENU and center button for >6sec) as well.
I was able to load the IPOD software, and my system does recognize the USB device.
I assume that this means there is some offending software that conflicts when this transfer occurs.
But how do I isolate? I've seen culprits such as phone software, spyware software (I have neither of those). Where do I begin?
Appreciate any input.

Hi,
I isolated my problem and resolved it. There was one song in my library that apparently was corrupted. Whenever that song gets downloaded into the IPOD NANO, the laptop would hang.
In fact, whenever I played the song from ITUNES, the laptop would also hang. The curious thing is that I had previously been able to download this song on a CD, which works fine.
I deleted that song from my entire library and repurchased from Apple. I was then able to download into the ipod.
Thanks for your input. I guess I was jumping the gun in hinting that the nano wasn't compatible with XP. Reading all these posts seems overwhelming.

Overwrote (full) iPod contacts with Laptop Contacts when syncing in iTunes
Overwrote (full) iPod contacts with Laptop Contacts when syncing in iTunes. Can I get old (full) contacts back?
Bakstory: Laptop crashed, got restored, but without contacts. Mistakenly thought I could upload them from my iPod. I hit sync. Big mistake. When I disconnected, I saw my iPod has the measley 4 contacts I DID have on my laptop after the crash, instead of the hundreds I had on the iPod just minutes before.
Note: There is nothing in the desktop Trashcan that says "contacts."
I also tried to post this question in the iTunes section, but for some reason I can't seem to post there.
Thanks for any help!
(Man, everyone agrees this is a design flaw--in how you share info from iPod to CPU and can easily overwrite things you don't want to. They should fix that.)Yes, you can do that.
On the computer that you only want to sync contacts & calendars to just unselect content like music, photos, apps, etc.
You can only sync content like music with one computer at a time, content like contacts with as many as you like.
Before you sync your contacts & calendar with the laptop, make sure you have one entry in address book & ical, select merge at the prompt, do not select replace.
Make sure you disable auto sync when a ipod/iphone is connected under preferences in itunes. -
my ipod crashes anytime i tap on music or video, does anyone know how to fix that problem???
When I use it on my laptop there is no problem the songs and videos are there but when i use the ipod directly they just don't appear... :SIt sounds like the iPod has a software issue. I would try the following troubleshooting tips:
1. Reset the iPod: reset the iPod by holding the sleep/wake and home buttons simultaneously for 10-15 seconds until the screen goes black then shows the Apple logo.
2. Make sure the iPod is on the latest version of the software, if it's not then update it.
3. If the iPod is on the latest version of the software or the software update didn't resolve your issue then restore the ipod to factory settings, which will put a new version of the system software on your iPod.
More info on backing up and restoring can be found here:

How can I sync my IPod to my laptop not iTunes?
I can't sync my 5th generation IPod to my laptop.
Use the Deauthorize All command documented in this article. If that's not an option, use the 'contact iTunes Store support' link at the bottom of it.

Hi, I HATE to ask for help with this, but I HAVE looked everywhere and Google searched different wordings and have not found anything similar nor a solution to my problem! My good old iPod 4th-gen charges just fine in any wall outlet, in any house, but when I connect it to my brand new ASUS laptop that has Windows-8 and 3.0 USB ports using the charging/data cable, the charging process just keeps "blinking" BOTH the iPod and the laptop and it will not connect to ITunes and I get "A Device is Detected" message that keeps popping up and going away over and over right above the Windows desktop toolbar. When I go to control panel and select "Devices" it does show the iPod, but for only a split second and than it disappears, but than it comes back again for a split second and than it disappears again and just keeps doing that over and over and over! I have tried resetting the iPod while it is plugged into the laptop by holding the power and menu buttons, that did no good. I also tried uninstalling iTunes and any other Apple stuff listed and reinstalling it all, that did NOT work! The iPod, the laptop and iTunes ARE all fully updated! I AM using a brand new charging/data cable that I just opened up an hour ago (I've learned to keep a few brand new ones around at all times since these piece of garbage rip-off cables hardly last a week, even when you baby them!). I also tried a few old cables, they all do the same thing! I would like to get this piece of junk to connect to my new laptop, even if only once, so that I can change/delete some songs and transfer a few dozen photos, since I haven't been able to do any of that stuff since my old laptop (that NEVER had any problems connecting) died way back in May! lol. I hope somebody knows a fix or solution! Thank You!

When I plug in my ipod to my laptop instead of my desktop, nothing pops up to sync it. Has anone had any problems with itunes not recognizing an ipod?
Hi sarahdavis0_o,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
If neither your iPod or iPhone are being recognized by iTunes when connected, I would recommend the steps in the following article.
