IPod Crashed - What to do for replacement?

My iPod 160GB crashed last night and when I did a restart I got the red X with Apple's support site. I know I need to take it to the Genius bar. But I wondered, in this instance would they take it apart and replace the drive, or would they replace the whole unit? The reason I'm asking is I have an expensive skin on it that has a lifetime warranty; so I need to know if I should take it off before I go to the geniuses.

Take your skin off.
In most cases, the folks at the Apple store will give you a replacement ipod (new or refurbished) and send yours away to be repaired & used as a future replacement.

First, I'd try resetting it several more times. Make sure you're holding the MENU and SELECT (center) buttons for ten seconds or more until you see the Apple logo. It sometimes takes several attempts and is best performed while connected to power.

Sending iPod in for replacement but...

I just received my package to send in my iPod nano 1st gen in for replacement. Upon reading the instructions it says to fill out the waybill and to attach it onto the bottom of the box. My package didn't have a waybill included, just the instructions, foam and tape. Should I call apple and ask for a new box in regards of not having a waybill or should I not have to worry about it?

If the packaging already has a bar code on it you do not need to worry about filling out the waybill.

Shortcut Method for Replace Pages dialog box

What is the keyboard shortcut method for bringing up the Replaces Pages dialog box. I use Replace Pages function a lot in preparing PDF documents and need a faster method than using Mouse on Tools right sidebar. I note that shortcut key for inserting pages is Cntrl-Shift-I -- what is shortcut for Replace Pages. In previous Acrobat 9, I could use alt-DNR, which brought up Replaces Pages dialog box via the menu, but there no longer is a Document item in the menu bar -- it has been removed. Please, this is VERY important to me. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Copy all the content on your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes. Then go ahead and sync the iPod with your new library.

- Regarding the apps you previously had installed, your only way is if you have the version that was compatible on your computer such as in the recycle bin/trash or in a computer file backup. In that case delete the current version that is in your iTunes App library and replace it with the older version. Then sync.
- Otherwise, as you found out, there are not that many apps still compatible with 4.2.1. However,Safari, mail and music work like they originally did.

If you're on windows try the following:
This worked for me an hour ago and has allowed me to sync ok. Still haven't tried downloading the new version 5 to the phone yet as I'm still backing up photos etc just in case.
1. Quit itunes
2. Start an elevated command prompt (Start Menu -> All Programs -> Accessories -> right click Command Prompt -> Run as Administrator)
3. Once in the command prompt type the following 3 words starting where your cursor is flashing: netsh winsock reset
4. press ENTER
5. Reboot your machine
6. Restart itunes & connect device to sync
7. Good luck

my iPad it get stuck on step 8 with a prompt that says "waiting to copy items" it stays on like that for hours
Reset your iPad.
Hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home button down at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
I recently upgraded to to the iOS 5 on my iMac and iPad
You don't need to manually sync using iOS 5.
