IPod crashing with certain Apple Lossless files

So my iPod crashes sometimes when playing some ALAC files. It's up to date, I've scanned it, formatted it numerous times, and have done all I can thus far. read: I've troubleshooted. Can't figure out why it's crashing. It seems to like files that were recoded from FLAC to ALAC. They play fine in iTunes though. Whats the deal?
Also, when I enter my serial number into the warranty check form, it says it can't find the serial number...

I might have found a solution. I was having the same problem. FLAC files converted to ALAC would crash the iPod. I tried several conversion program without success. I finally tired Max 0.7.2b and it's working.

  • Problems syncing Apple Lossless Files with iphone 3.0 and 3.1.

I recently started having problems with syncing apple lossless files with my iPhone 3G. They were recording I made using Logic Pro and the same as have been working with no problem since I got my iPhone last year. Although the songs would play and indicate the correct total time in iTune, on the iPhone they would indicate a total time of over 2 hours even though they were 2-3 minute long. The same files converted to mp3 did not have this problem. Since updating to iTunes 9 and 3.1 on the iPhone, the problem is worse. The Apple Lossless format files do not show up on the iPhone at all even though they are fine in iTunes. mp3 format do not have this problem.
Anyone else having the same issues?

    Hi Allen,
I would like to thank you very much for your help with Forte 3.0 and WTK 1.0.1 beta.
Thank you for the pointing me to the ForteJ2MEGuide.pdf file. It is very useful document.
However, even following it I did not succeeded in accomplishing my task.
I was able to follow the instructions and create, compile and run the Hello midlet which
was generated by the IDE. My previous problem related to the fact that I did not create
project and midlet suite for the midlet. After doing all of that the generated midlet worked. However, it was not what I wanted.
First, the instructions in the guide only described how to generate new midlet. I tried
to add the existing midlet to the current project. Unfortunately, the IDE always picked
up the generated template, not my code.
Second, when the generated midlet started to work, it was difficult to debug it. I set
up the breakpoint, but the IDE did not stop at it. I think the reason is the compiler
did not have debugging flag set up. Do you know where it is possible to set it up?
So, at the end I still cannot accomplish very simple task which should not be very
    difficult at all:
    1. Use my own code to create a midlet.
    2. Compile and execute the midlet and see how it runs in emulator.
    3. See step-by-step execution of every line of my code and the value
of every variable in the code.

  • Ipod Touch:  Does it have problems playing Apple Lossless files?

    Hi All
This might sound like a strange question to some of you but considering the hassles I am having with the 120gb classic it isn't.
To make a long story short my 120gb classic cannot play Apple Lossless files properly. Essentially they crash the ipod because the files are too large. I have done some research and on many forums people are experiencing the same problem.
I do find it quite offensive that Apple do not have the courage to admit this is a problem but there is nothing I can do about it.
So my solution is to get rid of my 120gb classic and move to a Sony or Cowon player (still doing research to make sure they can handle lossless (not apple) files).
However i really do love everything else about the ipod so I would love to find a way to keep it.
I figure maybe the new ipod touch's might not have this problem because they are solid state and if that is the case then I can stump up for one of those and keep with the ipod brand.
Does anyone know if the Touch's can deal with these large files? Apparently the problem with the old 120gb classics was the small 64mg cache. Hopefull the Ipod touch doesn't have this issue.
Anyway any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Eddie

If I went with an Ipod touch it would be a newer so I guess it would have the newest OS on it.
I'll wait awhile longer and do some more research before I take the plunge because I do not want to get ripped off like I did with the 120gb Classic.
Thanks for the reply though. At least it is leading into the right direction!
    Eddie

My computer crashed with all my itunes files.  I was able to get some off and transfer them to another computer.  I am afraid to sync my ipod to the new computer becaused I do not want to loose all of my playlists and other music.  Will this happen?

To import music into your iTunes library on the computer go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Add items to iTunes and follow the instructions
Delete the "songs" that do not play in your iTunes library and reimport them.

  • Apple Lossless file type question....

I rip CD's with my preferences set to Apple Lossless. I import from the iTunes store, also supposedly Apple Lossless. However, the music files are labelled as AAC or protected AAC (get info>file type)
    Why is this?
    Fabian

I thought that all content from the iTunes store was Apple Lossless files (either 128 or 256 for +).
It isn't. It's AAC content at those bitrates. Apple doesn't sell Apple Lossless songs.
Shouldn't the file type come up as Apple Lossless rather than AAC?
    See above.
Isn't AAC a lossy file type, different from Apple Lossless?
    AAC is lossy.

  • Nano won't recognize Apple LossLess files

So some of my music is in the Apple Lossless format and everytime I try to put those particular songs on my iPod, I get a message saying: "some of the songs from iTunes such as the file "insert name" were not copied to the iPod "insert name" because they cannot be played on this iPod". Now last time I checked Apple Lossless formats where supported by iPods, so I went and downloaded the newest iPod updater only to find that I was already up to date on my software. I would convert the songs to another format, but for some reason these few songs when converted to AAC become 2x as long and play at half speed, so I really just want to be able to put Apple LossLess files on my nano. Any one know why I can't play them on my iPod, or how to make it play them? Thanks.

Is the podcast playlist configured to sync to your iPod from under your iPod's Podcast configuration tab?  To access this tab, plug your iPod in and when it appears in iTunes, click on its name from under the Devices section in the left hand pane.  This will bring you to the Summary tab.
Locate the podcast tab and click on it.  Here you can configure your iPod to sync podcast playlists.

  • Why does Logic Pro 8.0.1 update now crash with certain templates?

I just updated to Logic Pro 8.0.1. The previous version, Logic Pro 8.0 never had this problem.
Logic Pro 8.0.1 starts up and functions overall just fine. However, when I try to open the "Instruments" template or the "Guitar Tones" template, it crashes Logic Pro 8.0.1.
The "Empty Project" template opens and works just fine.
I have not changed the original installed templates whatsoever, and I have never had a RAM issue on this machine. These exact templates all worked perfectly with the previous version of Logic on this machine (Logic Pro 8.0). The problem only occurred after the update to Logic Pro 8.0.1.
For the template "Instruments," Logic Pro 8.0.1. tries to load the audio files for "Basic Synth Det.exs" and crashes on "3hook24.wav".
Yes, I have verified and repaired the hard drive, and yes I have verified and repaired permissions.
Does anyone know what the problem with Logic Pro 8.0.1 crashing with certain templates could be?

There should be a crash log, which you can view in the Console.app in your utilities folder. Look for 'Logic' logs. They are often arcane, but something obvious might jump out at you, like a certain plug in crashing etc.. If you look for the number of the thread that crashed, often there is an indication what brought Logic down in the listing details for that thread#.
+or the template "Instruments," Logic Pro 8.0.1. tries to load the audio files for "Basic Synth Det.exs" and crashes on "3hook24.wav".+
Did you check that this .wav file is still available (not corrupted) and plays OK in the finder?

  • Which is better: Rip from CD or Audio Apple Lossless file

Wich is better for ripping??  For example ripping AAC 320 kpbs, is it better from CD or is it the same from an Audio Apple Lossless File ??
    Thanks

The quality you will get from ripping a CD or converting from an Apple Lossless file to 320kbps would be indistinguishable, at least without sophisticated spectrum analysis (if even then). So I would say to do whatever is most efficient for you.

  • Mountain Lion Spotlight no longer indexes "codecs" for Apple Lossless files?

Hi, I was recently trying to find some Apple Lossless files stored on my hard drive, and I tried searching using Spotlight's "codec" option (by typing "lossless" into the search field in the Finder). However, nothing came up. Upon further investigation (by looking at the info windows for various Apple Lossless files), it appears as though Mountain Lion no longer indexes the "codec" for Apple Lossless files, and therefore doesn't let you search by it. (Although I haven't tried this recently on at least Lion or Snow Leopard systems, I can verify that on OS X Leopard, which I still have running on an old machine, both the description "Apple Lossless" next to the codec field in the Info window came up, and it would also let you search by it.)
I was just wondering if anyone else might have experienced this on their Mountain Lion systems? Thanks!

I regret to inform this still has not been solved, though deleting the externalrecords helps purge those remnants away.

  • Size of Apple Lossless Files

According to iTunes help, an Apple Lossless File should be about 5MB per minute of music. I am experiencing from 6.5MB to 7.5MB per minute. Is this related to a setting which is incorrect, the type of music I am importing, or is Apple simply wildly optimistic?

Your second reason--the type of music you're importing. Apple isn't far off, on average, but there can be a wide range of encoding rates, depending upon the complexity and nature of the source recording audio. Just look at the variable encoding rates on any full CD you might have imported. One that I have, for example, ranges from 678 to 982 kbps among its 13 tracks.

I synced my daughters ipod touch with my apple account and now all of her contacts are on my iphone and my contacts are gone. What happened???

Try settings -- messages -- send & recieve and see if your email and phone number are in there and if there is only a check mark next to your email address.  If so just check off your phone number and try that.

  • I set up my sons ipod touch with my apple id and he is getting text messages from my iphone

I set up my son's ipod touch with my apple id and he is getting text messages from my Iphone.  How can I set up Imessage from his email account instead of my email/phone #?

You can go to Settings>Messages>Send and Receive and uncheck the phone number and delete your email address. You can add his own email address. The only way to delete the phone number is to use an Apple ID for Messages that is not associated with an iPhone. You can change it by Go to Settings>Messages>Apple ID and sign out and sign in with the other ID
