Ipod data not sync'ed, then lost

Often I use my ipod to rate songs as I listen to them throughout the day. Wrll, today proved to be useless. I had rated 50-odd songs today, watched a few podcasts and played a game today.
I got home and synced my ipod, and noticed there were no songs that were played today. No play dates, play counts or ratings from my day of listening. I disconnected the ipod and went to look up the information on the ipod itself, and all of the days data had been erased. All my ratings on the ipod had been erased during the sync process. Nice waste of my day
Has anyone else has seen this happen? The data is gone, and this the first time in the month I've had the classic this has happened. I hope it doesn't happen again. (and I just needed to vent.)

I encountered that bug on my new 160 classic. However, for me it only seems to happen if I go to the games.
I found that if you reboot the ipod after you play the game and before you sync, the sync works. However you should do it just before you sync as a reboot makes any smart playlist that depends on playcounts lose all of their songs!

  • IPOD will not sync more then 1.03 gb of data.

When I sync my ipod either with the sync feature or manually my computer stops syncing and give a "can not sync x's ipod" sometimes with an error number (-53) sometimes not. This always happens around 1.2 gb. I have tried syncing different files, different computers, different operating systems, different libraries, the 5 r's, registering dlls, remove reinstall update USB drivers, format, chkdsk, hp format tool.
I have used WINXP SP3 and windows vista. Sometimes windows will return a failure to write to "H:\x's ipod\n16"
I was recieveing error -48 and was told that was a corrupt file in my library, but I have tried different libraries plus different files and I still recieve the same errors.
I believe there is a hardware problem and I have errors on my harddrive at the 1.02 gb mark.

Er.. is the file > then 1.03 GB, or is the total size of the files you're transferring greater than 1.03GB? If it's the former rather than the latter, FAT32 (the file system the iPod is formatted in for Windows) can't really transfer huge files. So... you may want to break the file into chunks, perhaps. If it's a bunch of files totaling 1.03 GB, then I haven't got a clue. I've transferred more than that in one go.

Make sure your new computer is authorized in iTunes. Disable autosync in itunes, connect your ipod, right click on it in the device list and choose backup.

  • IPod classic not syncing because I do not have the privilege?

My ipod will not sync with my computer because itunes says i do not have the privilege to do so. Any suggestions on how to fix this? I have synced my ipod to the exact computer before and never had a problem until now. Even after I updated my itunes I was still having this problem.

    - If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPod has been restored it will never show up.
    - You can also wipe/erase the iPod and have the iPod play a sound via iCloud.
    - If not shown, then you will have to use the old fashioned way, like if you lost a wallet or purse.
    - Change the passwords for all accounts used on the iPod and report to police
    - There is no way to prevent someone from restoring the iPod (it erases it) using it.

  • My ipod will not sync new apps or music

my son's ipod will not sync new apps or music.
it is up to date, everything works fine that is on it
i know my solution is to restore the ipod but in doing so he would lose his tap zoo (which would be devastating)
so how do i get this ipod to sync without

It sounds like you previously synced to a different computer.  Yo can only synce to one computer/iTunes Libray but you can manage music among different computer.  See:
Using iPhone, iPad, or iPod with multiple computers
If you want to permanently change syncing computers best would be to move the backup file from your old computer and move it to the new computer and then restore your iPod from that backup.  For the location of the backup file see:
iPhone and iPod touch: About backups
If you do not have the backup you will have to restore to factory defaults/new iPod.

  • An Album (CD) I have imported in my iTunes, and is on my iPod, will not sync over to my iPad. Why not?

An Album  (CD) that I have successfully imported into iTunes, and synced with my iPod, will NOT sync with my iPad, even though I have done everything I know how to do so. When viewing the music in "On This iPad" mode, I can actually see the album there, but it is grayed out, and in the left hand column there is a circle with dotted lines, as if it is an incomplete download--which in essence it is. But I have the album (CD) in my iTunes and on my iPod, just like hundreds of other CD's--what's up with this one?
Another characteristic is that since trying to import this CD into my iPad, I cannot get a successful sync of the iPad now; the syncing process hangs up in "Waiting for changes to be applied" for 3 or 4 minutes, and then it just stops.  No message that "The syncing process is complete. Please eject before disconnecting." The sync just quits on its own, so I take it that the syncing process was unsuccessful.
    Now what?

Make sure that your music is in the format supported by the iPhone. I use either MP3 or AAC.
A friend had the same problem a while back. All his music was in the WMA format and is therefore not playable on the iPhone and would not copy. Once he converted his songs to MP3 they copied to his iPhone without problem.

  • I accidentally deleted my whole i tune library. I was able to retrieve the entire library, but all my play lists have dissapeared and iTunes says that my ipod is not synced with this computer. Can i sync my playlists from my ipod to my itunes?

i accadentally deleted my entire library (over 10,000 song) when i was trying to delete an old back up file off an external hard drive. Now when i open I Tunes and connect my ipod, a message says tht my ipod is not synced with this computer. This is the only computer this ipod has ever been synced to, so i don't know how to reconnect the two. I was able to restore all my music to the itunes library, but I lost all my playlists. I spent considerable time creating the playlists and they are stll on my ipod. Can I somehow sync in a way that my ipod can give the computer my play lists?

With your iPod connected to iTunes right->click on it's device name in the left hand pane of iTunes under devices and select Export Playlists.

My ipod is not syncing or connecting as usual. When I 1st recieved my ipod nano (3rd generation) its syncing and connecting was working fine. Now when I connect, the screen says connected, then synchronizing, then ejecting in less than 3 seconds. When i check my ipod it does not sync with any of my music at all. Can someone help me?

Try restoring your iPod. Restoring will erase the iPod's hard drive, reload the software and put it back to default settings. Once the restore is complete follow the on screen instructions and it should connect to iTunes and give you a prompt to automatically update your library onto the fresh installation:
