IPod deletes all files every time it resets; stuck in restore-recovery loop

I have a major problem with my 120GB iPod classic, which was working perfectly until yesterday (it barely even had a scratch on it). I was playing my iPod normally when it suddenly froze. No problems there, this occasionally happens so I simply reset it as I normally do when it freezes (Menu+Centre buttons); but then I noticed something was wrong - the Apple logo reset screen remained for much longer than usual (usually after about 10 seconds it switches on back to normal). I left the iPod on my desk for about a minute, and it eventually switched on back to normal - however I was greeted by the 'Welcome' page to select a language, and all my music etc has been deleted!
I've tried everything to get this iPod working normally again - when I restore (even when using disk mode); the iTunes tells me it is in recovery mode and needs to be restored, however I've restored several times and the iTunes insists it is still in recovery mode. I've also tried changing the drive letter and formatting via the PC, but to no avail. I have also noticed that every time the iPod is ejected and it says 'OK to disconnect', it resets instead of switching on... and every time it resets, it erases all the data all over again and the 'Welcome' screen returns...
In short, the problem seems to be that the iPod is interpreting 'reset' and as a complete reboot - it keeps on resetting itself completely.
What can I do? I'm slowly going insane

a detail which I may have overlooked is, I have a suspicion that the iPod is not even being restored at all; the iPod simply resets (and deletes all the data while doing so) during a restore; therefore its not even allowing me to do a restore!

  • How to see all image types when saving an image without selecting "all files"every time

    <blockquote>Locking duplicate thread.<br>
    Please continue here: [[/questions/951766]]</blockquote>
Hallo, and thank you for reading this.
I am a person who saves a lot of images online and renames them in different folders in different names like B - 34 or G - 56. I have been working with firefox 10 for quite some time and it had a pretty handy bug (I guess) where I could save an image and firefox would just save the image in it's original type (JPEG,PNG etc) while "save as type" was empty.
It also always has shown all the image types in the folder where I save the images (except for GIF) and that helpes me quite a lot by saving me the trouble of selecting "all files" every time I save or going to the folder to rename every image.
Now this seems to be lacking in the newest firefox versions and my question is if I can set firefox to always show me all the image file types when saving an image, instead of only showing JPEG's when I try to save a JPEG.
    Thank you for your time.

I suspect this is a Windows problem. I am surmising the FilePicker uses the Operating System or Desktop facilities. Does Windows 7 offer any other file categories like ''images'' ?
I do not normally use Windows 7, but may the option depend upon the directory being an indexed one, I ask after finding this thread ''Bring File types tab back'' [http://www.windows7taskforce.com/view/819]

Normally I would lock the duplicate question, but in this instance I will leave it open as it is unanswered and someone may give a better reply.

My ical delete all calendars every time I close the program down. Please help!

Do you have Logitech gaming software installed on the PC? If so, perhaps try the suggestion from the following post:

  • Calendar will delete all events every time I update it

Every time after my mom updates her iPhone 5, it will delete all events she created. It happened with the last update, and also happened with the most revent update, which delete over 20 Doctors appointments, birthdays, school events etc. and she has no other place she wrote them down. Is there any way to retrieve these, or stop it from happening in the future?

I spent most of yesterday rebuilding my library from a back up program. This has only happened with this latest update. How do I prevent it from happening?
I am also having to redownload all my music purchases from (well most) from the cloud, and that isn't working either.
It would be nice if someone from Apple would respond.

  • My ipod deleted all files after resetting

it did that, so i went back to connect it to the computer to get the music back on it. And, so i went to turn it back on and now it wont turn on. Could this be because my battery is dead and i need to send it in to get a new one since i have had it almost a year?

i believe you're supposed to let the battery recharge after resetting it. i'm not positive but try it anyway, it can't hurt.

I have a PC that runs Windows XP, I can not down load any new up dates. It appears that an earlier copy of Bonjour is either MISSING from location or is damaged rendering it null. I have tried to download iTunes 10.7 and get stuck. I am so frustrated and well am in need of help. I don't know what more I could short of purchasing knew computer. I even went as far as trying full restore, that one file just cant be fixed. Any Ideas left for me to consider?

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Bonjour entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

Install or Reinstall Mavericks or Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
OS X Mavericks- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Erase and reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Every time I reset Safari, I have to re-sign into the iTunes and App stores. Related or coincidence?

It seems that every time I reset Safari, I have to reestablish credentials with the App and iTunes Store. Are there cache or web site data files that are common to all three of those applications?
Currently using Safari 7 with OS 10.9.

Thanks, Bee. I reset my browsers on quitting as a matter of course, Most other browsers allow this in a preference setting, but I have a macro for Safari which resets it before quitting. I've noted that the problem is not Safari's alone -- any cache cleaner, like NetShred -- seems to have the same effect. I suppose I was questioning the linkage, though. I would have thought that store credentials would be treated differently than browser cookies and cache files. The cleaners I've used so far allow you to add disparate files to the cleaning routine. I haven't yet found one that allows you to say, "Don't touch that one..." I'll keep looking.
    Thanks for the help, Bee.

  • Time Mach is backing up EVERY file EVERY time!!

I'm having a problem here, or else things are very different than people have been saying....
When I first upgraded to 10.5 and Time Machine, I had File Vault installed. Then I read how it would back up the whole home folder every time... ick.... so I turned File Vault OFF.
So now it's backing up individual files, just like I had hoped.... EXCEPT, for some reason, it's backing up EVERY file, EVERY time. Not just the initial backup. Not just the changed files. EVERYTHING.
I was wondering how I used 250GB on my backup drive since YESTERDAY!!!! Here's what I get if I do a "Get Info" on the individual backup folders....
    8:42 am -- 55.47GB -- 181,188 items
    9:32am -- 55.22 GB -- 181,229 items
    10:32am -- 55.23 GB -- 181,233 items
Okay, so what gives?!?!?! Do I need turn do something to reset this out of control thing and hopefully get it set to backing up only the CHANGES?!? This is why I turned File Vault Off in the first place, so I wouldn't have 55GB backups every time.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!!! Now let me unplug my hard drive before it get completely full while just sitting here, surfing the internet.....
    Thanks,
    Donovan

Right-click (or CTRL-click) on the icon for your Time Machine hard drive on the Desktop and select Get Info from the menu that pops up. That will show you the actual amount of free space left on that drive.
You can also see it by going to System Preferences / Time Machine while your Time Machine drive is mounted.
Every backup folder in your Time Machine reflects the ENTIRE file system of your computer (excepting items in your Do Not Back Up list and certain items that are automatically rebuilt from scratch such as cache files). That means if you do a Get Info on any of those backup folders you will see the size reported as matching the size of your file system. However, not all that data is in every backup folder. The vast majority of the files you see in the backup folder are actually "hard links", a special kind of pointer, pointing to a real copy of the file that was transferred during some previous backup, perhaps going all the way back to your initial backup. So every backup folder represents the whole file system, and is reported as being that big by the Finder, but in actuality most of the data is scattered through your prior backups and your initial backup -- just one copy. Only new files/folders or changed files/folders get transferred into each new incremental backup.

I'm using a Rocketfish USB to Lightning cable for powering my IPAD2.  But when I plug it in the battery icon beeps and comes on then goes off...then goes on...then goes...all beeping every time.  Its as if its being unplugged and plugged in over and over.  It won't stop...and its not charging....just beeping.  I've check connections.  Any ideas?

    - While charging try resetting the iPod:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Next try restoring the iPod via iTunes.  First from backup and if still problem restore to factory defaults/new iPod.
    - However, I really think that the iPod has a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.  If defective Apple should give you a refurbished iPod.

  • Accidently deleted all files on internal storage and synced new files to internal storage

    Hi
I was setting up FolderSync to sync some folders to my phones internal storage. My mistake was to choose the root of the internal storage, which deleted all files files and synced the folders to the internal storage. I've tried to factory reset the phone, to recreate folders and files originally placed on the internal storage, but no luck. I've only used the phone a couple of days, and didn't wanna spend time on trying to recover folders/files, since I guessed that syncinf files to internal storage would damage the "old" files anyway. Is it possible to recreate the internal storage to the state when I first used the phone? For example the demo videos and sample pictures don't reappear when I do a factory reset (also placing the tick for deleting the internal storage).

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

After doing full factory reset your phone will be clean and ready to use with root folder recreated. But... demo videos and sample pictures are not part of firmware. It is region dependent content available only until phone is factory cleaned or user deletes them.
So to recover those files you need to find other user with the same phone as yours and kindly ask him to share those files with you (if sharing such files is legal in your country).
