IPod device not recognized by iTunes on PC

I have an iPod Touch. Worked fine for a couple years. Then someone got a hold of it and disabled it by mis-entering the passcode numerous times so that now the display reads "iPod is diabled, try again in 5259129 minutes." I was told that I could simply plug it in and restore it. However, when I plug it in, and iTunes opens, the device is not recognized at all {Devices does not even appear on the menu on the left side}, and instead a small window opens with the following message: "iTunes could not connect to the iPod Touch because it is locked with a passcode. You must enter the passcode on the iPod before it can be used with iTunes." Well I cannot enter the passcode for about ten more years. I just want to restore it--I don't care if I lose everything at this point. What I can't figure out is how to get the iTunes to recognize the device so that I can restore it. I have tried reinstalling iTunes twice, to no avail. Help!

Thank you so much--the article you referred me to provided the procedure that worked for me. Previous trouble-shooting instructions I had found did not indicate that I needed to continue to press the "Home" button after reconnecting the USB cable until the "Connect to iTunes" screen appeared. We were able to do a restore. THANKS AGAIN!

I have an iPod Touch 4th Generation. First, my iPod wasn't even recognized in Windows. After following the various Apple articles, I solved this.
But now, my iPod won't be recognized in iTunes. I've been trying to follow this: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538 which has worked so far. But the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is not listed. I follow along as to what to do to solve this until I reach "
Use this window to navigate to the following folder:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers.
Note: If using a 64-bit version of Windows, this folder may be stored in C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers.
Double-click the "usbaapl.inf" file which is listed in this folder. (This file will be called "usbaapl64.inf" if you have a 64-bit version of Windows)."
My Mobile Device Support does not have a folder called "Drivers" and my computer does not have any file listed as "usbaapl.inf" anywhere. I'm guessing that this could be the source of the problem. But I can't fix it unless I know where to find these drivers, and I don't know they are on my computer or how to get them.
Can anyone help?

I haven't had a lot of problems with my iPod or iTunes until recently, when I plug my iPod in, it is not recognized. I tried EVERYTHING to fix it, went as far as restoring it to it's factory settings.... I've uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes about a million times, and I think the problem is iTunes. Okay, so I'm not the geek squad and I'm not good with computers or anything AT ALL. I've done my research, and I've found a lot of search results for this problem, but all that I have found have been recognized so the problem has been fixed for them fairly easily.
I have an iPod nano generation 5
I have a lenovo 2005-2006 in computer
I also have windows 7- but I CANNOT update it (this may also be the problem but I need a way to work around it)
All I know is I'm having music withdrawal.

- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.

Hi, I have an ipod touch. It has been working well along windows 8 all this while until 1 week ago, itunes can no longer detect the ipod touch. Funnily, when I tried connecting it other computers using Windows 7, it could be detected. I have already tried almost everything such as uninstalling and reinstalling itunes, AMDS restart. What else can I do? I really need to sync some songs into my ipod touch for a run this weekend. Please help!

Just saying you tried everything provides us with zero information as to what you did try.

After installing the recent update for itunes I believe it is 11.0.1, my ipod touch no longer is detected by itunes. It is not listed under the devices. It is recognized by my computer but not my itunes. When I plug it in a screen on the ipod pops up asking if I trust this computer I hit trust and nothing happens. I can't sync it via wi-fi either. I have tried reinstalling Itunes and restarting my computer and none of that has worked.
