When i connect my ipod nano to my pc itunes pops up and starts syncing then my ipod suddenly disconnects itself which its still syncing, iv had this problem since i got thie ipod and so have not been able to use it, can anyonen help me please?

Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

If I try and redo the update it just hangs. The ipod displays do not disconnect but doesnt do anything. I tunes is no longer recognising the ipod. All the songs from the ipod have been erased (I did not select restore when I initillay tried the update)
I can see the ipod from my explorer but it will not let me access the device it just hangs.
Can anyone advise me how to fix this so I can use it again.

  • IPod touch Stuck during update.

Hi, so i have an iPod touch which had 4.0 firmware on it (I think it was just 4.0, maybe 4.0.1 or whatever) and i was trying to update to 4.1 (It isn't hard, so i assumed there wouldn't be any problems, as i have never had any problems in the past) but this time, there was. When the bar at the top of iTunes got to pretty much the end, just a little bit short of it, and the same with the bar on the iPod itself, it just froze. I think i left it at that point for maybe half an hour or something, and it didn't change atall.
So i thought, no big deal, and restarted it. Same problem again. Since then, in the past couple of days, i have tried about 5 times, and have also read about a DFU mode or something? I tried to use that, but couldn't get into it (well, i dont think i did) but nothing worked.
Currently my iPod is sitting with the connect to iTunes screen, i cant get out of this, and have tried pretty much everything i can find to get out, but none have worked.
Also, i am kinda unsure as to what firmware i am actually now on, (probably none :L)
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated, and i am very sorry for the wall of text, but i am getting frustrated, and i never realised how much i actually use my iPod until i cant use it.

    Did it get solved..
    please reply..

  • IPod "removing" itself during syncs

Does anyone else's iPod do this?
When I sync it to my Mac, it will usually take 2-3 cycles of "updating iPod" then "Device removed was not properly put away" then starting over with "updating iPod".
All this while I am not touching computer, cable, or iPod. It seems to lose the connection during the sync without my doing anything, and I've had to "restore" it about once a month.
It otherwise does not behave like it has a hard drive problem--it is flawless in playback, and only misbehaves during sync.

I am having the same problem but you are the only other person I have come across who is experiencing it to. I have a new 5g 30gb ipod and every time I plug it into my Mac I get 'updating ipod' followed by 'Device removed was not away properly' again without touching the dock, wire or keyboard. When I initially setup the ipod I got an 'unknown' error message which may have something to do with it, but I have restored factory settings since then and haven't had the message again. I have also since been able to add my entire itunes library to the ipod. If I click on the itunes library while I have the ipod connected it crashes itunes and it will not let me set some of the other preferences like Ical syncing. Help!! I previously had a 3g ipod and didn't have any major issues with it in 4 years!

  • Ipod / Itunes Stopping during update or restore.

Whenever I tried to update / sync my ipod it would get a certain distance in and then just freeze. The progress bar would just stop where it was and the ipod says do not disconnect. I would either have to disconnect it or shut down the computer. After a while of trying to get it to update over and over, I decided to try restoring it. It just stops. It says it is still doing something but the progress bar stops. After it stopped during the restore and i had to unplug it, every time i turn it on, it tells me it needs to be restored, but the same thing happens
    I'm using a 5G 30gb ipod with a macbook pro
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated
    Thanks
    Rob

first of all make sure that the battery is completely charged
toggle the hold switch for atleast 6 times.
try plugging the shuffle in different usb port
go ahead open up >>My Computer >>Control Panel >>Add/Remove Programs >> delete all previous updaters even ipod for windows
download the latest updater 2006-06-28 from apple.com
then restore it or update it.............don't worry u won't loose your songs they are safe in itunes

  • Ipod "Freeze" itself during play

when im at the gym running on the treadmil i've noticed listening to a few albums the ipod will randomly stop during a song, and i find that sometimes if i just turn the headphones (the bit connected to ipod) a lil bit, it starts playing again, or if i pull them halfway out and push back in again, the song somehow starts resuming from where it was. However now i tend to have to keep resetting the ipod, which while running at 10.5km/hour, isnt an easy thing to do and is getting a bit frustrating! Anyidea what is causing it? is it the bad state of the headphones that are somehow damaged in someway that they could cause this?

it might be but this is the apple headphones not third party ones. And they have been through abit of wear and tare over the past year. But i presumed that (atleast was the case with my previous ipod) If the headphones came out, it auto paused and even if u pushed them back in you had to press play manually for the music to resume.. so maybe this is different or just that with my colour/5th gen that it plays auto once reconnected?

This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, using a different dock connector to USB cable, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections. If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
Restore and wait for the error.
    When prompted, click OK.
Close and reopen iTunes while the device remains connected.
The device should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
    Try to restore again.

  • IPod recognized, but hangs during update

So my iPod will show up in Finder and in iTunes, and automatic updating will begin. However, at random times during the update, sometimes 4 songs in, sometimes 65, the whole process will just hang. iTunes status screen gets stuck on flashing between "Updating iPod..." and Song 65 of 2054 and just flash between those two over and over.
Meanwhile, the iPod screen itself is also stuck and no longer flashing "Do Not Disconnect" -- it's a steady screen with none of the normal flashing.
    Tried resetting, doesn't do anything.
Tried restoring, and it hangs after Authenticate asks me for my password to Restore the iPod.
I wind up having to just force disconnect and force quit everything and restart.
Anybody else have this problem? Thanks for any help you can give.
Oh btw, OS 10.3.9, iTunes 4.9, iBook G4.

I am having the same issue where it hangs during update -- seems to always happen around the 1800th song. Here's more specifics:
-I've got 7000 songs in my Library
-my iTunes Music folder is located on an external FireWire HD
My Mac has no problems mounting the iPod. No problems restoring with iPod Updater. No problems with erasing using Disk Utility.
    I have tried the following:
    1. Resetting and then restoring via iPod Updater.
    2. Erasing/reformatting via Disk Utility, including zeroing out all data, and then restoring via iPod Updater.
    3. Resetting into Disk Mode.
    4. Manually updating songs.
    5. Automatcially updating songs.
Nothing works. I have been troubleshooting this for about 8 hours now with no luck. No matter what I do differently, it always hangs around song 1800. I even tried uninstalling/reinstalling iTunes -- and I have tried this with several different user accounts and on different partitions I have set up.
When it "hangs," the iPod itself just makes a the "clicking" sound of a HD. I'm wondering if the HD is just bad -- but it came up with no errors when checking with Disk Utility.
    Any more suggestions?
    Johnny

  • HT1369 Ipod touch not being recognized by itunes (but is registering as an external drive by the computer itself) have updated and reinstalled itunes, stopped/started apple mobile device and removed and mobile programs associated with my non apple cellpho

Ipod touch not being recognized by itunes (but is registering as an external drive by the computer itself) have updated and reinstalled itunes, stopped/started apple mobile device and removed any mobile programs associated with my non apple cellphone. This seems to have started happening after the last Itunes update I did as I was able to put music on my ipod touch a month or so ago. Is there some way to go back to an older version of itunes? I really have no idea what else to do since I followed every step on the trouble shooting page for windows 8.

I had this problem too and my roommate solved it!
    Go to 'Settings'
    'Music'
Scroll to the bottom and enter your password to log onto your home sharing
Then connect to iTunes and sync!

  • IPod Touch bricked during iTunes update.  Error #14.

I was updating my iPod Touch via iTunes and it got about half way done when I got error #14. I have followed the troubleshooting steps to the best of my ability however there seems to be something slightly odd about the error that I encountered. When I turn my iPod on now (i.e. when I hold the power/sleep button down for a few seconds WITHOUT pressing the home button as well), I see the Apple logo for a few seconds then it goes straight to the image of a USB cord with an arrow going into the iTunes logo. My computer recognizes my iPod as an iPod and iTunes says "iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore the iPod before it can be used with iTunes." I click "Okay".
Then I click "restore" since I have just been instructed to do so.
I click "Restore and Update" at the prompt.
The process makes it through the "Extracting Sofware" step, as well as the "Preparing iPod for restore" step at which point I get the Apple logo back on my iPod.
Then a progress bar appears on my iPod which corresponds to the progress bar on my computer (Windows XP, btw). It says "Restoring iPod software..." on my computer.
The progress bar gets to about 25% on my iPod before I get error 14.
At this point the iPod restarts itself. I see the Apple logo for a few seconds and from there straight to the image of the USB cable with the arrow going into the iTunes logo.
This iPod has never been Jailbroken or anything like that. I was attempting to update it because it wasn't connecting to my home's WiFi network, for God's knows what reason.
In conclusion, Apple's update broke $300 mp3 player. It's a 16 GB model and it's out of warranty so I'm put in the position of bringing it to Apple and paying them more money so that they might -possibly- fix the thing that they just broke.
Needless to say this has soured me on the company just a little bit.
If anyone has any suggestions, I would appreciate the help.
    Thanks,
    -Trevor

The exact same thing happened to me!! I was able to get the restore to work on another computer with itunes where I had not downloaded the 3.1.1 upgrade. I am at least back to 2.2.1 with nothing on my itouch. Which is better than what I had. At least it turns on now. From the looks of this board, it would seem 3.1.1 upgrade is not ready for prime time!!

  • HT1320 Ipod 4th gen was accidentally disconnected from laptop during update process. Now permanent screen pic is of power cord w/ an arrow pointing up to itunes. Holding the ctr & power buttons together has no effect for reset.

Ipod touch 4th gen was accidentally disconnected from laptop during update process. Now permanent screen pic is of the power cord w/ an arrow pointing up to itunes symbol. Holding the ctr & power buttons together for 6-10 sec causes apple pic to briefly appear and power cord/itunes pic reappears. Powering off and on has same effect. Attempting to reset.

It sounds like the iPod touch is in Recovery Mode, Try to restore it from iTunes again.

  • IPod keeps reseting itself while updating

I've had previous trouble with my 60GB iPod Video, but I think this is the last problem... I am trying to update my iPod but while its updating the iPod keeps reseting itself over and over again... please help!!!

There's nothing you can do but bring it back to the store. Mine does the same thing, it just goes to show that Apple is so busy pushing these new iPods on us and releasing them too soon that the customers end up having to deal with their hardware failures---all because they didn't take the time to test these!!!

  • I accidently unplugged my iPod touch during update I tried to restore but the 'iPod update server could not be contacted' PLEASE HELP!

    Hi, please help me
When my iPod was 'preparing for update' my iPod USB accidently fell out. I turned it on and a usb sign and an arrow to iTunes came up, so I plugged it in. It comes up with a message saying iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode, You must restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes. After that, I clicked restore and it said 'The iPod software server update could not be contacted' and that's it!
    I've tired,
Resetting my iPod (the usb to iTunes sign still comes up)
Holding down the Home and Power button at the same time for many seconds
    Restting my computer
Going into LAN settings and changing that
Please, I really want it too work as I just got it today for my birthday
Any help would be much appriciated, thank you

Yu can try here. However, other users been having the same problem so it may be due to a problem with the Apple servers.
