IPod displaying wrong album artwork; connectivity issues

I have an iPod Classic 80GB, model #A1238. It's a little over 2 years old. I use it on a PC with Windows Vista. And I am currently using the latest version of iTunes.
My iPod is pretty much at full capacity (music only!)-- if I want to add something, I have to delete something else. Lately, a lot of the new music I add displays the wrong album artwork in my iPod (even though everything's correct in iTunes). Usually, the recently added songs/files displays the artwork of another recently added album... but now, my recently added albums are displaying artwork for other, "older" and random albums in my iPod library! It's driving me crazy since my iPod is so neatly organized!
I have a feeling it has something to do with syncing? For the past year or so, I have had issues connecting my iPod to my computer. From time to time I get one of those "this device can perform faster" messages. That sometimes leads to other error messages about not being able to eject my iPod b/c the "device is in use," or I get an excessively long period of syncing or "verifying" my iPod. When those things happen & I'm stuck in a certain process, I typically try manually ejecting the iPod... and when that doesn't work, I restart my iPod.
In fact, I've been restarting my iPod a lot these days. I try to restart it every time I'm about to plug it into my computer to remove/add new music (I figure it might not have issues with wrong album art if it gets kind of a "fresh start!"... and that only works some of the time).
So what do you think the problem is with the album artwork?!? It seems so trivial, but it really drives me crazy-- I really love looking at the artwork, as silly as that may sound! I've heard that I might have to restore my iPod back to factory settings, but I'm REALLY hesitant to do that-- I have about 16,000 songs on my iPod & to get them back, I'd have to re-import my many, many CDs! It will probably take days! I'm also afraid I might start having the same old issues if I start getting those error messages about the device performing faster (I feel like all my little complications arose from those issues).
Some things to keep in mind: If it's not clear already, I manually manage my iPod's music library-- I don't sync entire libraries or playlists or anything. And most of my album artwork is downloaded automatically when I import CDs or purchase music from iTunes. Once in a while I manually add the album artwork (like, I find the album art from the Internet, copy it, right click my song files on iTunes, select "get info" & manually paste the image in the artwork box). That sometimes helps, but those files can still sometimes display incorrectly in my iPod, ditto song files purchased from iTunes (though more often than not, I don't have issues with those files' artwork).
Lastly, is it bad for me to be repeatedly restarting my iPod?
Any help would be much appreciated!! (And be forewarned: I am NOT too tech-savvy!)

The only way to get things resolved will be to restore your iPod. Since, as you imply, you've been manually managing your iPod and not keeping copies of your media on your local hard drive, you will need to recover the content from your iPod before you restore. There are plenty of threads here detailing just how to do that. If you haven't got the space then you will need to start, I guess, by buying an external drive big enough to hold all your media in one go.
Your iPod shouldn't need resetting on a regular basis. For myself I found that when I had a large number of playlists on the iPod (basically everything in my library at the time) it was more likely to freeze when playing games or even moving around the menus so I cut down the number and complexity of those I put on the device which seemed to fix things.

  • Ipod displays wrong album art & skips entire songs since updating to 1.2

I recently got the new itunes update and the ipod update 1.2, and ever since that it has been skipping entire batches of songs and shows wrong album art for the songs that DO play. I have a 30 Gig Video
      Windows XP

Try this: Open itunes> plug in your ipod> select your ipod icon> click the music tab> uncheck the box that says display alblum artwork (unless its already unchecked)> click apply> check the same box again> click apply. If all else fails you can restore your ipod and the artwork will come with it.

  • ITunes displays new Album Artwork but wont transfer all artwork to iPod?

I have manually updated my iTunes library to show the new full resolution album artwork, but after updating my iPod almost half of the images didn't transfer to iPod?

If itunes decides that the ipod can't play a vid it won't send it. The ipod won't necessarily play every mp4 video, the specs are:
H.264 video: up to 768 Kbps, 320 x 240, 30 frames per sec., Baseline Profile up to Level 1.3 with AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 Khz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats
MPEG-4 video: up to 2.5 mbps, 480 x 480, 30 frames per sec., Simple Profile with AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 Khz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats
Try right clicking on one of the bad vids in itunes and select "Convert to ipod format" - this should make it ipod compatible.

    What is the error message?
Anyhow, if you were getting the chkdsk problem, you will want to restore. That should also help with the artwork problem...

  • Wrong album artwork syncing to iPhone

on my Mac and from what I've seen on my iPad as well the right album artwork displays but on my iPhone it seems to like mix up the artwork on some songs, some downloaded from iTunes, some ripped from a CD, like I might have a song from Adele but on the iPod and also on the lock screen it will show maybe the artwork of Jack Johnson! I mean its not a big deal but does anyone know how to fix this?
    Thank you

It gives you the ability to use multiple computers to manually add your own music, i.e. music you have legitimately acquired, to your iPod. For example, I have 2 computers, I manually manage my music on my iPod Classic so I can hook it up to my MacBook Pro and put songs on that I don't have on my Mac Pro.
I also has a car that will go much faster than the speed limit. Just because it gives me that ability does not allow me to drive 120 mph on a local street.

I put the soundtrack to singles on my Itunes(http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?id=192995929&s=14344 1). When I hit get album artwork It downloaded some wierd electronica album cover. I searched what it said on the cover on the Itunes store (http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?id=102738695&s=14344 1). Also when I uploaded Led Zepplin 4 It gave me the Complet Led Zepllin Cover. So how can I get the correct Album cove?

The iTunes database is messed up on those Led Zeppelin covers. THere is an older topic here on discussions about it.
    Tell Apple here:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html
For the Singles soundtrack, try putting Various Artists in as the artist name on one track. Get the artwork for that one track and see if it's correct.

  • Songs On iPod Out Of Order/Shuffling Displays Incorrect Album Artwork

Hello all. My main problem(s) with my 4th generation iPod nano is that on selected albums, the songs are displayed in an incorrect order (not corresponding correctly to my iTunes library). This and that when I shuffle all my songs, the artwork doesn't correspond correctly to the song that is playing. I have called Apple at least four times and tried reinstalling iTunes twice, restoring my iPod to factory defaults three times, resyncing my iPod four times, and checking the tags on my iTunes Library songs. Any ideas what the problem could be?

I am having the same problem that my artwork doesn't correspond with the right song thats playing, get different artwork and also artwork from movies that have been deleted long ago. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP

  • Syncing issues with iPod Touch - missing albums & artwork

What do you do when you have synced your whole library but some albums/songs haven't transferred? Then when you try a second time, ALL artwork disappears from the iPod Touch? I daren't try syncing again as I don't know what's going to disappear next.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync/delete all music and resync
To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Manage Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.

  • Ipod displays the album art BLACK

I've got a 80GB ipod video 5th generation, and some songs of some albums appear black... but on the pc they are just fine.... what the **** is going on?
All my songs have the correct art on them... but some appear as a black box on the ipod. HEEEEEEEEEEEELP

i have the same problem for ages since itunes 7.2 and 7.3 arrived i guess, but no techy apple guy can give an explanation or fix this bug even on itunes 7.4.
when your artwork is on itunes it's fine, by copying it to your ipod will get the exact copy at first. but when you edit the artwork direct on your ipod, say maybe you changed the artwork, it will display black after disconnecting.
now before getting into trouble and taking hours of restoring your ipod, you may simply delete that file from your ipod and drag a new copy from itunes library. with this you'll see the artwork perfectly.
on a last note i also find annoying that you can no longer customize what fields you can view (rating, last played, date added, etc.) on your ipod settings when you plug it into itunes. the settings are at default everytime you connect your ipod.
i hope this helps. seems apple is not listening to our little concerns which we all find annoying.

  • IPod displays incorrect album art for some songs

Hi, I hope someone can help. I've tried a bunch of things and I'm still having problems with some of my album art. They display fine in iTunes and other music players, but sometimes not on my iPod. Sometimes it'll display a different album cover than it should, and it kinda annoys me. The only thing I can do is to open the iPod in iTunes, delete the song off the iPod and drag it back on. I think I've had this problem with songs I've brought back in though. Also, once the wrong art is displayed, it remeains that way unless I delete the song and replace (like I just said). I thought maybe the iPod was stressed by starting up, so I tried running through all songs figuring it would endure less stress, therefore displaying the right album art, and thus it would remember the artwork than me, but artwork still messed up
I tried the diplay album art setting in iTunes
    running through songs on iPod
I started in automatic update and now I'm in manual update, but this problem occurred in both
    Please Help me, someone!!!

  • IPod displays random album art that I've never added or downloaded

I've noticed sometimes that album art on my iPod would be missing or displaying art from another album or track in my library but what I noticed today is really confusing me.
I've noticed a couple of albums so far are displaying weird images that I've never downloaded or added to iTunes. They aren't from another album, track or podcast. One is of the Golden Girls posing with their Emmys! How did this random artwork get applied to tracks on my iPod? The artwork is perfectly fine in iTunes and the thumbnails in the iPod's list view tend to be correct as well. It only shows up when I play the track or album.
No one has been using my iPod, plus I have a passcode on it. It seems like a restore is in order but I'm just curious to know if others have had this problem and know the cause.

I'm not running iOS 5 but it could be related to iTunes. The artwork seems to be completely out of the blue but I'm still seeing regular artwork being mixed up from album to album. The other weird images I don't recognize could possibly be from chapters in some podcasts that I never noticed before, I suppose.
A full restore of the iPod is likely the only solution to this fix I would guess.

  • IPhone displaying wrong album/song information

I am having a problem with the information of an album on my iPhone/Itunes. The album itself is syncing but the information displayed on my iPhone is incorrect. On iTunes the 'year' column correctly states '1975' yet when I look at the exact same album on my iPhone the year displayed is 1999. There was a remaster of the said album released in 1999 but I don't understand why this is happening, anyone have any ideas?

    Hey there,
It sounds like you are tapping on a specific song to play, and rather than play it the device will play a totally different track. That's definately some unexpected behaviour, so lets see what we can do about that. Start by closing all the running apps on the phone first:
iOS: Force an app to close
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5137
    Double-click the Home button.
Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
Swipe the app up to close it.
When you have done that and restart the phone and test the issue again:
iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
If the issue persists, I would recommend backing up your phone to iTunes on your computer directly with this:
iOS: How to back up and restore your content
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
And restore it from your backup with this article to install a fresh copy of the iOS:
Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1414
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • After my last Ipod update my album artwork isn't matching up with the music.

It seems something is corrupted, if the artwork isn't matching up with music. What should I do to restore this?

Sometimes the artwork caches on these device becomes corrupt. Try the following until one works.
    Reset the device.
Remove both albums involved from the device, then add them back again.
Remove all media, then add it back.
    Restore the device.
Your media is all inside your iTunes library, right? If not you'll need to recover it from the device first.
