IPod distorted into iPod-ready Car Stereo

I just had a Sony CDX-GT420IP installed, and it sounds fine with the radio or CD, but when I connect the iPod (NOT via audio AUX, but rather a direct connection,as would to the Mac), the audio is really hot & distorted. I have to turn the EQ off, just to get it anywhere near in range, but it's still too hot.
After going thru the Sony manual, I can't see any way to turn the overall volume from the iPod down over that direct connection. Is there a way to do this? I tried turning the "headphone" volume down, but it didn't seem to have any effect.
Thanks for any tips!

As the iPod is connected with the car stereo via the docking, you can't change the iPod volume by its click wheels.
You can try either:-
1. switch the soundcheck on with your iPod
2. Re adjust your iTunes library and do the sync with your iPod again

  • IPod Ready Car Stereo

    Hello,
I am going on a summer vacation to California via mini van. I want to purchase an ipod ready car stereo so the kids can play all their music and mine on this long road trip. Some have aux input, some usb connection, and others an adapter that you buy along with the stereo. Anyone have one of these that can give me their experience? Thanks.

Check the link below. They may have an adaptor for your existing factory radio. The advantage of this is that it will likely be cheaper then a brand new head unit and with this, you can have the iPod charge while playing. I installed this recently in my car and I'm very happy with it.

  • Playing iPod through car stereo

    Hi,
It plays just fine except it won't shuffle songs, and the battery drains when the car is off. The iPod needs to be ejected when the battery is down, the car started and the iPod reconnected for it to work (except it still won't shuffle).
Thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer

It sounds like the car stereo to me. Try getting one of those wireless transmiteras for the radio and see it if is still doing the volume jumps. If not then it is your stereo and if so them it is the iPod.

  • Device to connect photo ipod to car stereo?

I am looking for a a good device to connect my ipod to my car stereo. I was using a cheap tape connector with wire on my old car but the new one only has a cd player.
I bought a no-name fm transmitter (made in china?) with charging capability on ebay and no matter what station it was set on there was static. Can anyone recommend one you have had success with--I would prefer that it have the capability to charge the ipod too.
    Thanks!

I have been using the Alpine head unit since February and it has been fantastic up until last Saturday - now it won't "see" the ipod at all. I went back to the car stereo shop where I got it and the guy there said someone else had come in a few days before with exactly the same problem - when you connect the iPod to the head unit it just keeps saying "searching". They connected a different iPod and it worked perfectly so surmised it was an iPod problem not an Alpine problem.
I've tried restoring my iPod but it won't restore (error 1428) but I suspect this has something to do with the new iTunes 7 / gapless playback software change since I only started having problems since then.
Don't know what I am going to do now. The only reason that I bought the Alpine was to play the iPod in the car and now I can't. I'm not game to get another iPod either incase Apple changes their freakin' software again and renders it incompatible. So I'm out of pocket for a head unit and a 30gb iPod.

  • IPod and car stereo.  Will it keep track of the play count?

I'm currently shopping around for a head unit for my car. I was just hoping someone could tell me whether or not the iPod still keeps track of play count when connected through a USB cable to the car stereo. I'm only wondering because I wasn't sure if this situation is similar to hooking and iPod to an XBOX 360 through the USB cable (which doesn't keep track of play count). If someone could please tell me what models do and don't keep track of play count, I'd really like to know. I'm particularly interested in the Alpine iDA-X305 so if someone could let me know about that one specifically, I'd really appreciate it.
Thank you for reading my post, and I appreciate any and all help given.

I don't think an car audio device would be smart enough to set up a connection that is like a computer's connection to an iPod. When I use my dumb docking speaker, the play count is kept for the next sync with my Mac.
So do you think it just has to do with the fact that an Xbox 360 is pretty much a computer, therefore the iPod reads the connection as though it was a connection to a computer?

  • Why can't I connect iPod to car stereo with red/white RCA cables?

I have red/white/yellow RCA (I think that's the name of them) plugs in my car stereo and I bought a cable to connect it to my iPod. It's the small plug (3.5 I think) on one end and a split 'Y' that's red and white on the other. The people and my car dealer connected a cell phone that is also a music player to it and it works, but it won't work with the iPod connected. The dealer thought it should be able to work with my iPod, but doesn't know why it won't. Are iPods able to connect to a car stereo this way. Is there another special cable that I need to get?

No, I should think that would work fine. I have a splitter like that connected to my hifi and no issues...you would want to make sure the volume on the iPod is up all the way; I don't know what car stereo you have, but possibly it's a setting on there that isn't right?

  • How to revert to older software to play ipod  in car stereo

I have a Classic I-pod with software version 3.1.1. The manual for my Pioneer DEH-P310UB car stereo says it will play the Classic I-pod version 1.1.2. Can I revert my I-pod software back to 1.1.2 in order to play it in the car? I'm going on a long road trip and wish to play this I-pod on the road.

Yes I do have a Classic, it's not a nano, it doesn't take photos, and I got it for Christmas 2004.
The iPod classic was not even released until October 2007.
The iPod Photo (or 4th gen iPod) and iPod with color display do not take photos but can display photos.
it tells me the software is 3.1.1
Yes, because the iPod Photo (or 4th gen iPod) uses firmware 3.1.1. The iPod classic (120 GB iPod) uses version 2.
    The iPod classic (80GB & 160GB) use version 1.1.2.
Is it possible to revert to 1.1.2?
Possibly but the manual you are reading is not referring to version 1.1.2 for the iPod Photo (4th gen).
It is referring to version 1.1.2 for the iPod classic (which are only the 80GB/160GB models).
If your iPod does not have a 80/160/120Gb drive, it is not an iPod classic. It is a regular iPod.

  • IPod nano car stereo connectors

Does anyone know if any of the various third party car stereo connection kits are compatible with the iPod nano? They advertise that you can control iPods and iPod minis directly from the stereo controls, but they don't mention the nanos. Is the interface for controlling the nanos through the dock connector the same as that of the iPods and minis?

I'm not sure I understand your question. Do you mean to ask if the iPod nano and the iPod mini use the same type of connector? Then, yes, they do use the same type of connector.
However, there are a couple of differences between the two iPod models. For example, if you have a FireWire cable connected to your dock or an iPod cable with a FireWire connection, you will only be able to charge your iPod nano. The iPod nano requires a USB connection to sync songs or pictures.

  • IPod causes car stereo to turn off

I have been using my iPod classic with a tape adapter in my car and have had a recurring issue. When I use my iPod and a tape adapter, my stereo turns off and goes into "safe" mode when turned back on. I have found the problem to occur with 2 different tape adapters. I have also used an iRiver T10 mp3 player with no problems. AM and FM and CD (changer) are all working fine. Strangely, the issue happens when I pick up the iPod after it has been sitting motionless in the center console and in use.
Car is 2001 VW Jetta Wagon with single DIN factory stereo.
    Anyone got any ideas?

Consider acquiring a belkin adapter that lets you tune your car radio to an unused channel in your area.
It is essentially a very low power transmitter (about the size of a usb memory stick) which connects to the headphone jack. Set the channel on the transmitter, tune the car radio to the same channel. Push play.
There are 2 types of these transmitters - on that is switch selectable for 4 different channels, and a digital one that can go anywhere on the dial.
I prefer the latter, as the formers 4 fixed channels have bleed in my geographic area.
Runs on a single AAA battery - which, surprisingly, Belkin provides in the package.
Last I checked, the switched one as 29, the digital, 39.

  • Ipod to car stereo?

Anyone have suggestions on how to run the nano through the aux jack in a new car (2007 model) stereo? The area I live&work in (boston/nyc) is awful for running the ipod through the car radio because there are too many signals causing interference. I assumed I could just plug the ipod directly into the aux jack, but it doesn't seem to work.

You have to explain what "AUX JACK" is.
Many models include an input for a standard audio jack. In this case you need a male to male connector, usually available for about $6 for 6 feet
    Explain what you have.
Maybe you're not using it correctly, have you set your radio to "AUX" mode?
Help with the Make and Model of your car, and "what you're currently using to do this" will give you a better response.

  • Playing ipod thru car stereo with no mp3 capability

Is there a model that you can connect to your car audio (thru cigarette lighter) that will play clearly? My stereo is older and does not play mp3 nor do I have an ipod connection. Thanks for your help!

Yeah, they make FM transmitters that use the ciggerette lighter's power to power the transmitter. Cigarette lighter sockets are 12v only no audio in there.

  • I cant shuffle tracks in playlists like before on latest itunes and when playing ipod through car stereo it will only placks in the 'correct'order - even if i select shuffle on the ipod itself.

i mostly use my ipod in a car system through the oe radio  (audi a4) - if you connect an ipod and play tracks, evene when setting songs to shuffle it stil plays in the correct order.
in the past i have made and shuffled playlists then they played fine. since 'upgrading' to the latest itunes it does not now let me do this. you can shuffle tracks but it does not physically re-list the tracks like it used to.
any help on this woulod be greatly appreciated!
    thanks

  • Having Trouble With 5G iPod w/ Car Stereo

I have my 5G iPod hooked up through a iPod adapter to my Panasonic CQ-C7403U, its a head unit that allows you to control and charge your iPod through the unit itself. Anyway, it worked fine for the past year or so then a couple of weeks ago, it would skip on some songs. Not always at the same section of the song but usually only certain albums. Also, sometimes, during playback, it will all the sudden stop playing and the head unit will read "No iPod" even though the connection is secure to the iPod.
Using your best judgement, do you think this would be a problem with the songs, the iPod or the head unit? Sometimes, the songs will skip when just playing the iPod so that kind of rules out the head unit. It's not songs bought thru iTunes. Does it have to do with how the songs are encoded and what format they are in? Please help.

Hello. I have the same problem for two weeks. My player of DVD for the car does not recognize my Ipod even if reset both to defaul factory. That I can do in the matter?
The DVD accepts other Ipods so the problem is come from that (the Ipod).

  • IPod Chrysler car stereo interface

Anyone know / hear anything about this yet?
It was announced back in the beginning of the year and supposedly available from dealers this spring. Well, spring has sprung and no-one seems to have ANY info on this. I can't wait to loose my lousy sounding FM transmitter and control my iPod from my steering wheel controls. Let's go Chrysler... we're waiting...

See if you find anything here...
