  • Use of iPod dock and car charger

Although the interface on my old iPod dock and the car charger seem to match, I am leery of using either with my new 3Gs. Any idea on whether these accessories will work or cause problems?
    TIA for any info.

Won't cause problems, but may or may not work depending how old they are and if the manufacture listened to Apple (years ago) about changes it planed to stop supporting certain things). If they didn't listen, it may not charge. But unless they are really really old (first iPod old) really wont hurt anything.

  • The iPod dock and its connections

Hi, I have an old version of the universal iPod dock and I'm wondering if it would help me to buy a new one...
It would be a great help if I could use my TV screen rather than the small iPod screen when I want to change or view what is playing.
The new iPod docks have a video out port - I know that this can be used to project your iPod's photos or videos onto a TV screen, but I don't know if it is possible to view the menus of the iPod on the TV screen also?
    Thanks in advance,
    - Greg.

Greg, Welcome to the discussion area!

No, sorry it only shows photos or videos (depending on your iPod).

  • 5G iPod Universal Dock and FireWire

I'm thinking of upgrading from my 3G iPod to a new 5G version. Is the 3G dock (with FireWire connection) compatible with the new iPod, or is a new dock necessary? Is there no FireWire connection possible on the new 5G iPod? Thanks!

Apple do not ship docks with new iPods anymore. because they are only making one type of dock now. instead they are selling adaptors.
Also firewire is no longer compatable to transfur files from your PC / Mac to your iPod but you can still charge with the firewire cable you got with your 3G.
what im going to do when i get mine is charge using firewire into a plug socket in the wall. and keep the USB 2.0 cable attached to my computer so there will be no more diving behind my computer to update my pod all i'll have to do is switch cables

  • How to use bluetooth ipod dock and external speakers together

    Hi
Is there anyway to make my speakers, conected to the headphone socket at the rear of my iMac, and a bluetooth Ipod dock play together.
I've bought a Bose dock with bluetooth thinking I could then have the radio or songs playing in two different rooms but I can't seem to find out how to make the computer play through the speakers and the bluetooth, I have to pick one or the other.
    It's on  OSX 10.6.7
Thanks for any help as this has really disappointed me

David, here's my interpretation of what you just posted:
iPod nano Dock enables quick connectivity if you have a desktop computer without an easily accessible USB 2.0 port. No more reaching behind the computer to plug it in — just place iPod nano in the dock and it’s ready to sync with iTunes and charge its battery. <<</div>
This means that the dock connection connects to the internal battery and allows you to transfer data (sync w/ iTunes).
And you can plug a stereo mini cable to its line-out port and enjoy a clean, direct connection to a stereo or powered speakers<<</div>
This means you can plug a stereo mini cable into the same port you use to plug in your headphones. The other end would go into your stereo or powered speakers. Which means no dock connection with line out audio!
I would not be able to use the nano with my Altec Lansing speakers or my Sik Imp (which is how I listen to my iPod mini in my Honda Element). So no nano for me!
Apple's marketing strategy is all too clear to me now. They didn't discontinue the mini, their best selling iPod, because that's what everyone is trying to copy. They discontinued it because they felt sales of the mini were cannibalizing sales of hte regular iPod. If you wanted something more compact than the iPod but wanted dock connectivity to all the various accessories, you bought a mini. Now you buy the nano for compactness AND the regular iPod to use with the accessories. So where one product satisfied two needs for the average user (not the afficianados that have iPod collections) Apple will now happily sell you two products.
To all those people who asked what the mini has that the nano doesn't, this looks like it: line out audio through the dock connection. A very important feature!

  • Listening to nano through ipod dock and external speakers

    Hi,
Need some help here. I've just upgraded from my old 10gb iPod to a nano, and everything is fine until I try to listen to it through my external JBL creature speakers. I've plugged the nano into an ipod dock, which is connected to the speakers, and no sound is coming out. I plugged in my old ipod, and it worked fine. Any help?
    Cheers

  • IPod Touch and Firewire

Can the iPod Touch sync using a firewire cable? I have one I use with my iPod Mini and wanted to know if it would work with the Touch.

Thanks. I am a bit disappointed by this. I really liked the transfer speed using Firewire instead of usb.

  • Older iPod Dock and New Ipod Classic....

I got an ipod classic as a replacement for my 5th gen ipod video... Back in august i got a universal dock to use with it and the dock dosent seem to work with my Ipod classic...Its an older model dock could this be why? What should i do? IT WAS A $50 DOLLAR DOCK not including a remote!

Came across this in a search...
I have a universal dock and an 80gb classic. Presumed it would work fine but no sound comes out, even though the volume is max. Tried my old 20gb and it works fine. No problems with the creature speakers. I used the supplied adaptor and tried without but to no avail.
What the **** is going on? I've had nothing but trouble with Apple stuff lately
I wanna get jiggy in my house!

  • My Lightning to 30-Pin Connector will only play music through my iPod dock, and will not charge my iPod touch 5th gen.

My Lightning to 30-Pin Connector will only play music through my iPod dock from my iPod, and will not charge my iPod touch 5th gen. Help me please.

Have you tried resetting the dock by removing it from power?  What about resetting the iPod Touch? To do this, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.

  • Sony TDM-IP1 iPod dock and iPod Classic

I'm interested in getting the Sony TDM-IP1 iPod dock to go with my sony AV receiver, but I need to know if it'll be compatible with my 80GB iPod classic. I checked the manual on Sony's site, and it says it's compatible with the 5G iPod video, but I think the manual was written before the classic came out. I also contacted Sony customer support, and they said that they haven't done testing on it's compatibility with the iPod classic. So does anyone know if this will work or not (both video and audio)?

I found the following comments on Amazon:
    +iSeries Rules says:+
+Ok, so I took the time to talk to Sony (2 hours on the phone) and Apple (1 hour on the phone) about this.+
+Sony tell me that the iPod classic has the same specifications for the connection port as the iPod 5th gen Video. So, they believe that the problem is in the iPod classic's firmware. They did say that they were going to get their engineer's to look at connecting a classic up to see why it is not working.+
+So, the Apple story. Apple looked at this and said that the classic's video out was slightly different than the 5th gen. But, after looking at it a little more closely, and looking at some of the products that Apple sell for similar functionality (video out to TV/Receiver), they then started to feel that there may be an issue with the hardware/firmware. They also indicated that they had received reports of the classic working with similar products, and then failing to work after a recent firmware upgrade.+
+Apple also indicated that they would contact their engineers regarding the connection to the Sony Digital Media port, and give reasons as to why it is not working, and whether there is some way to make it work.+
+I should hear back within the next few days (given that tomorrow is friday, it may be early next week).+
+Hopefully this matter will be resolved by a firmware update.+
+What was really dissapointing was I plugged in my friends 5th gen, and it worked a charm. So it can work...+

  • Ipod dock and remote

Hi All can any body tell me if once the i touch is docked on the universal dock is it poss to play the ipod back through the pc also can the you use the remote i have tried the remote works but there is no sound even when it is sync it does not work i can highlight devices in i tunes and click on a track and it will play ok it all works ok if i use a seperste set of speakers

If you read the manual, you'll see that the menu button is for other devices, but not our Nano's. Apple doesn't make this clear on it's website, IMO. Had I known this, I would not have bought a u-dock. Plus, when my Nano is docked, I can't use the lower 1/3 of the wheel, as the Nano sits too low for my fingers to reach. It's going back to the store next week.

  • Problem with ipod dock and apple remote

I have a problem with my apple remote and my 5th gen ipod on a dock. I set it up and plug it into a TV, yet when i get into a music video playlist- it will only play 4 songs (the same ones) and then go back to the song selection screen. The same thing happens in the movie "tab" as well.
    Any ideas?

    btabz,
Thanks for your response. No the iPod doesn't respond at all--the volume display doesn't come up or change.
When I press the play/pause or either skip forward or back on the remote, the iPod, while on the dock, lights up and responds to the command as it should. But when I press volume up or down on the remote the iPod does not respond at all.
According to Apple's store info on the remote, the volume up/down controls should work. I am wondering if maybe it doesn't work with the 3Gs for some reason. But if that is the case, Apple should indicate that. It is kind of frustrating to not be able to adjust the volume.
    Thanks,

  • IPod classic and firewire

    Good afternnon ladies and gentlemen
Here is th efirst silly question of the season. Can anybody clarify for me if you can connect a new iPod classic to a mac via a firewire cable? Looking forward to the answers.
    Cheers
    Darren

No, you can't. iPods haven't supported firewire for syncing for several years now.

  • IPod Movie and Firewire

Does anyone know if it is OK to use an old firewire cable to connect the new iPod Movie with a Mac? I do not have USB 2 on my machine and am not real excited about the idea of having to move over 20 Gigs of data to my new iPod through a USB 1 cable; but, I don't want to plug it into a firewire cable if it's going to fry my device.

I just ordered the new video iPod (60gb). I specifically asked the Apple sales rep who sold it to me if I could sync with firewire instead of USB, since I have the last iBook made with USB 1.1. He went and checked with his supervisor and assured me that there would no problem, new iPod will sync with firewere. So if you guys are correct that it WON'T sync with FW, I will be really dissaponted and send the thing back. How can I upgrade to a better device and be forced to accept a slower connection? Lame.
Any further confirmation on this would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Mark

  • IPod dock with firewire hub

Does such a beast exist? I find it very disheartening that so many companies are developing USB accessories for the iPod when firewire was what it was originally built with. It is a much faster and far superior connection than USB.

    Welcome!
Click on "store" at the top of the page and do a search for "firewire hub". Apple sells about 5 or 6 different versions. Your local computer/electronics store will also sell them.
