IPod Dock Photo / IPod Dock 3rd Gen Question

I just recycled my old battery exhausted 3rd Gen 20gig Ipod and bought the 20gig Ipod Photo.
Question: Can I use my old Ipod Dock (minus the S-Video Out of course) to transfer music and photos?
It doesnt seem to connect completely. I see the pod via itunes. I can see the disk via "My Computer" but the transfer of information seems to stop dead.
Any answers?

Yes it works perfectly with both my firewire and USB. (which of course begs the question "Why am I trying to get the dock to work - it looks pretty on the desk and I dont want to shell out more coin for the Ipod photo dock).
Its just annoying to have the PC and ITunes both recognize the Ipod with the Dock but not allow music/file transfer.
My thoughts are different pin configuration?
Thanks

  • 2nd Gen iPod fit the dock connector of of 3rd Gen Color iPod?

So I have a 2nd Gen iPod (4 round buttons) dock connector 40GB and want to get the new universal dock with the IR sensory so I can control it with the remote. In the description of the new dock it says it is compatible with my model but doesn't say it comes with that particular dock apdapter. However it says that it does come with a the dock adapter for the 40GB color display. My question is does mine have the same physical dimensions as the 40GB color display model? And so will it fit into the dock adaptors that come with the dock or do I need to get some additional adaptor? I thought that they were identical in size, though on Apples "Identifying different iPod models" page it doesn't list the physical dimensions of them. If anyone knows this that would be great.

    hi Zachary!
good lord. something appears to have gone horribly wrong with the footnoting on the Universal Dock KB doc:
    Learn about iPod Universal Dock
okay ... here's what i think is going on.
it's saying that five different adapters come with the dock.
five of the adapters listed in the table have little superscript "1"s next to them (adapters 3-7).
the first of those two "bullet point" notes below the table says "Included with the iPod Universal Dock".
sooooooo ... my thought is that the five adapters you get with the dock are adapters 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7.
but your 40G four-round-button ipod is a dock connector ipod according to this document:
    Identifying different iPod models
which i think, according to the table on the Universal Dock page, means that you need a number 2 adapter, and so you're going to have to get an additional three pack of adapters for it.
... that all sounds plausible, but i'd prefer it if someone with both a universal dock and a 40GB dock connector ipod could actually tell us which adapter they have to use ...
    love, b

  • I might have a 2nd gen iPod, but paid for a 3rd gen

Okay so i bought an ipod 3rd gen from Best Buy about 3 years ago, and lately i haven't been able to update it or download any new apps. My ipod version is apparently 4.2.1(8C148). Does that mean i was sold a 2nd gen for 3rd gen price?

If iTunes tells you it is up to date when you try to update the iPod, then yes it is a 2nd gen. Look on the back. How much storage does it have (8GB, 32GB, 64GB)?

  • How do i delete photos on ipad (3rd gen) and keep on pc

How do i delete photos from my ipad (3rd gen) but keep safely on my pc and how can i be sure all photo's / videos taken on my ipad are stored in iCloud??

    don butler,
Sync them off maybe a little confusing because there is no menu selection or button that says, "Sync Off Photos"
When you synced with iTunes you went to the photos tab and selected albums to copy to your iPad.
To remove whole albums, start iTunes on the computer, connect and select your iPad and go to the photos tab.
Then DESELECT the albums you no longer want on the iPad.
Clicking on Apply or Sync will then remove the unwanted albums.
To remove only certain photos that are inside albums is a little different.
Before using iTunes on your computer find the folder or album that has the photos you want to remove. Then move those photos to some other location on you computer or, if you want, delete them entirely.
Finally start iTunes on the computer, connect and select your iPad and go to the photos tab. Make sure all of the albums you want on the iPad are still selected. This includes the albums that you just edited by moving or deleting photos. The click on Sync or Apply.
The sync process wil examine each album, compare it to what is on your iPad and make the necessary changes. If you added photos to the folders on your computer they will be added to your iPad. Conversely, if you deleted photos from folders on your computer they will be removed on your iPad.
    Hope this helps.

  • Ipod stuck on apple logo 3rd gen

ok so this happede a long time ago but i accedentally updated my ipod to 3.1.2 and couldn't downgrade it, so i jailbroke it with spirit, after some months i accedntly let the battery run under 2% and ever since its been stuck on the apple logo.
NOTE: IT WONT CONNECT TO ITUNES, CAN'T REBOOT IT BY ANY BUTTONS ON THE IPOD AND I HAVENT GONE TO AN APPLE STORE YET.

If you put the iPod in DFU mode does it connect to iTunes as an iPod in recovery mode? At least then you could restore it and sync your data back.
To put the iPod into DFU mode:
    1. Make sure the iPod is connected to the computer
    2. Hold down the sleep/wake button and home button at the same time for 8 seconds
    3. Let go of the sleep/wake button and keep holding down the home button
    4. If you are successful, a dialog box will pop up in iTunes stating that iTunes has detected an iPod/iPhone in recovery mode, the iPod screen will remain black.
    5. Click OK, then click the restore button in iTunes.
Hopefully after that, the iPod will be up and running so you can sync your content back.

  • Syncing photos to Nano 3rd Gen

My wife and I have two nano's that have the same problem. We can find folders and photos and manually sync them but when the optimizing for iPod is complete it tells us that some photos cannot be displayed on the iPod. The one or so photos that are on the iPod are distorted and have large lines of solid colours on them. They do not sync properly. I have Windows Vista and an HP computer. I do not have adobe or anything, I just find the folder and sync that way. It looks like it is syncing and the bar at the top of iTunes shows that it is optimizing, but no picture comes out properly on the iPod. I appreciate any help

    And then there were four...
This is rather frustrating. Not that I think it will do any good, but here's what I sent using iTunes' "Feedback" option since there is no way, that I have found, to directly ask the iTunes technicians a technical question:
There is no place to directly ask you (the iTunes technicians) for support about iTunes except in the forums. My question is already in the forums and already has three people with the same problem and no answer. http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6240563&#6240563
Vista Ultimate x64, HP Pavilion TX1000 CTO, 2GB RAM, AMD Turion 64x2.
    iTunes version 7.6.1.9
Not all photos sync to the ipod, it doesn't say why or what to do, they are *.jpg files. Some that do sync end up looking distorted with color bars and other odd artifacts, originals remain pristine. Sometimes when syncing photos, I get a blue screen of death.
I know you don't respond to these comments, but at least have someone post a fix on the forum there, or tell me to whom I can send comments for official help with specific and real issues instead of the very general user guides, "support documents" and "blind leading the blind" forums.

  • Individual photos to iPad 3rd gen?

Is there a way to import individual photos rather than folders, albums, etc. with the iPad (3rd generation/ios 7.0.3?) I've been importing entire folders then deleting all but the few I want on my iPad...what a pain. Thank you!

I use iTunes on my Win 7 PC to Sync Photos from a specific folder and have sub folders nested in there to sync photos I want, in catagories and you can click on the check boxes to include or exclude those subfolders.  Keep in mind, only include photos you want in the folders, add or subtract photos from any folder will syncronize on the iPad.
Another work around I use is Dropbox to import a single image to the Camera Roll.
    Just a couple of ideas.
    Cheers,
    UG

  • I am unable to connect my 3rd gen iPod to my Windows 7 Laptop or iTunes

Once again, Apple support Communities creates a new question instead of letting me search within iPod touch for my own research.
For the past six months I have been unable to sync my iPod to iTunes.
The 3rd Gen iPod Touch will not connect to Windows 7 and not recognized by iTunes 11.1.1.11.
I have data/info on my iPod that I prefer not to compromise by doing a hard reset.
I have confirmed that my iPod nano does sync with iTunes on my Win7 Machine. So I'm pretty certain my cable is working ok.
I've heard that I can somehow sync via wifi, but I'm still not sure if that means I can backup my Notes, Contacts and other data without the use of applications like MS Office/Outlook etc.
Thankfully, or detrimentally, I've been able to go for the last few years without changing the 10k songs on my iPod touch. But over the last six months, I've finally started getting bored with the existing songs. Hence the need to solve the non-syncing issue. And I don't like going blindly forward without a backup. My battery and home button have become glitchy and I'm concerned I may lose the unit completely one day soon.
If anyone reading this has any experience with a similar issue, or could offer advice, workaround, or solution, I would be greatly appreciative. And I hope to assist others as I learn more through solving my Apple issues.
    Thanks,
    Ryan

    The Ipod works fine.
Battery charges regularly with the occasional glitch.
    Running iTunes 11.1.1.11
I figured a Nano would probably connect in a simpler way than the touch, but only have a couple computers and cables to test.
I've reinstalled iTunes, but not the full suite, and not all traces. I will attempt this, but I suspect its related to my touch. I was able to connect other iphones to my itunes without issue, using the same cable.

  • IPod Touch Model A1288 8GB is 2nd Gen or 3rd Gen?

Here are some links which says that iPod Model A1288 8GB is 3rd Gen. But Apple's site says that Model A1288 is 2nd Gen. Can anyone clarrify this for me.

A1288 is a 2nd generation. There is no 3rd generation of the 8gB iPod Touch.

  • Ipod 3rd Gen Toast?

Hello, my name is Trevor and I have a very serious issue with my ipod. It is a 3rd gen Ipod with 32 gigs, I bought it new at an apple store. The problem is, it won't turn on AND it is not being recognized by the computer. I tried the support already, and that was not helpful at all. I'm thinking there is nothing I can do on my on. Please, if there is anything I can do besides sending in, help!
    ~Apple Customer

    Have yu tried everthing here:
iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
Then an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Dock for 3rd Gen. iPod Won't Work w/ 5th Gen. iPod?

I have a third generation (G3) iPod, which came with a docking station and an iPod-to-firewire cable. I also have a fifth generation (G5) iPod, which did not come with a docking station, but did come with an iPod-to-USB cable.
I can charge the G3 iPod using the dock and the firewire cable, but the G5 iPod won't charge using that same dock, nor will iTunes recognize the G5 iPod. Even if I plug the USB cable into the dock instead of the firewire one, it won't charge or get recognized.
Am I doing something wrong, do I need a different cable, or do I need to get one of the new docking stations? If the latter, will that docking station work with both my G3 and my G5 iPods?
    - Keith

Yes, the universal dock with work with the 3rd generation iPod--you can check the specs through the Apple Store's product description page. I also know that you can't charge the 5th Gen iPod using the 3rd Gen firewire cable + adapter (I asked about that at the Apple Store today).
What I'd like to know more about is why the 3rd Gen Dock isn't compatible with the 5th Gen iPod even if you use the USB connector. So this is "helpful" but I'm echoing your question about the dock: Why Dock 3 work with iPod 5?

  • Ipod Nano 3rd Gen in Fatman Ipod dock is not recognized by TV via AV

Our older model Ipod (classic) 30Gb in the dock is recognized by the TV. Settings of Nano are correct. Normally the Fatman Ipod dock is compatible with the Nano 3rd Gen, I first checked their website, so.
WhenI put the Nano in a Denon dock, the TV recognizes it though.
Soft reset of Nano was done but with no effect.
I thank the person(s) who can give me a valuable answer.

I have the same problem. My Iphone 4s works fine when docked to PC. PC won't recognize my 3rd Gen Nano. Same goes for my Work PC. They don't recognize it nor will plugging it in to a PC charge it. I have to plug it into wall socket to charge.
I have tried resetting, I have tried downloading newest Itunes.
Must be the Nano itself if it doesn't get recognized by mutliple PCs?
I haven't used the Nano for probably 2 months. Previously it worked fine...
One thing, when docked to my laptop during a reboot/startup, it intially starts to charge the Nano, but once setup is finished it doesn't recognize it any longer...
