IPod & Dock/ Remote Problems remote does nothing why?

I just purchased the iPod Docking station to use with my remote. I thought you were able to control the iPod with the remote. menu button doesn't work and I can't scroll through songs. It seems that when I use the controls on the remote it raises the volume on my iMac why is that? Thank You.

My computer is a Inspiron 530S using Windows Vista, duo core.

All you can do is try restoring the device. If you are unable to you'll most likely have to get the iPod repaired.

when I plug my ipod into my mac it does nothing. any ideas?

Try a different USB port on your computer. If your using a PC, the port on a keyboard is not strong enough; plug it into a USB port on the computer tower.
Be sure to wait awhile; mine sometimes takes a couple minutes to connect.
Another tip would be to open i-tunes before plugging ipod in.
If it still doesn't work, try resetting your ipod by turning the hold button on and off, then pressing and holding the center and menu buttons until the Apple logo shows up. When ipod returns to main screen, plug it into the computer again.
If nothing works, you may have a bad connection cord.

  • Newest version of universal dock appears to be incompatible with my ipod Classic 120 gb.  Remote does nothing

I purchased from Apple, a new universal dock with remote (MC746LL/A) along with the proper dock adapter for my ipod Classic 120.  According to Apple the dock works with any ipod with a dock and adapter..  The remote does absolutely nothing despite a brand new battery.  The only reason I purchased this pricey accessory was to have an additional ipod station with a remote.  I could have saved a ton of money if I didn't care about a sensor on front of the unit.  Any thoughts.

You are in exactly the same boat as I. I have the same problem. I posted a query on this forum too but no help came forth. Looks like Apple could be blocking replies to iPod Classic issues since it withdrew the product. Amazing company. But incase anyone can still access this query, please help. It will help two customers of Apple if not more.

  • Ipod dock sync problems into G5 / works with Cinema Display

after buying a new printer i had to reshuffle my usb and firewire arrangements, so i moved the ipod photo dock to the usb port on the back of my G5...before it was going into the back of my apple cinema display's usb port.
now, i get the (-36) message whenever i try and transfer songs with the ipod in the dock when connected into the back of the G5. if i bypass the dock and use the usb cable directly into the ipod it works fine, and everything (dock included) still works fine if it's plugged into one of the apple cinema display usb inputs. i just can't use the dock anymore if it's plugged directly into the G5. i do have Isight hooked up to firewire and some of the other ports used, but Isight didn't interfere with anything before this.
anyone have any clue what's going on?

I have been trying (unsuccessfully) to get my iPod to sync. Tried everything that normally cures all problems and quite a few new things. No joy.
Anyway, every so often, due to having to disconnect without ejecting or force quitting applications, my iPod becomes unrecognisable.
What works for me is to boot the computer using my Installation Disk. As soon as you're past the welcome page you will have access to Disk Utility. It always seems to be able to see and repair the iPod. I then cancel the "Installation" and reboot from the System on my Hard Disk.

  • I have ipod classic (about 3 yrs old) and when recharging, everything on it is gone.  When I tried copying the saved/backup items, itunes and ipod were stuck...doing nothing/frozen.  Help!

I have an ipod classic which I had bought about 3 years ago.  I plugged it into my computer this past weekend to charge and it showed me that there were nothing on it...no music, no movies, no photos, nada.  I had updated the program on my computer and when I tried to reload all the stuff that I had saved, it locks up my itunes and ipod.  It doesn't do anything!  I don't know what is going on....Help!?  Anyone!?  Any clues?

Which version of iTunes are you using? (most probably the latest, a lot of this hung iTunes coming in)
Which iPod software is shown on the iTunes summary screen?
    My suggestion go on Diskmode.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1363?viewlocale=en_US
Connect it to iTunes via a USB2.0 port (For Mac please dont use the Keyboard USB port and for MB, only one USB port is for iPod, the other will freeze your iTunes as the resource bus is shared with other devices )
Then update the iPod software or Restore the iPod.
Try to disconnect your iPod from the PC, if you are not charging or Syncing the iPod, or else, some Apps will just trigger a Restore and delete you iPod.
For Mac users, who has a FAT32 iPod, you may find iTunes Restoring it to HPS+ if you leave it connected overnight.
For Windows users, some Winsock layer conflict with iTunes will trigger the Restore.
    Good Luck!

Try to do a Reset first, by pressing "select"+"menu" keys until you see the apple logo. Then put it into disk mode

  • Problems in compatibility of iPod radio remote with iPod classic 160 GB

    Hi all,
I have just bought a iPod classic 160 GB and want to buy a iPod radio remote as well. However, after I have done my research, I find the radio remote is not compatible with iPod classic perfectly…
Do you think it is a good idea for me to wait a new radio remote (maybe) or later Apple will release update?
    Thanks

I use my Radio Remote with a Classic; it does everything that it had with my 5G-Video EXCEPT it will not allow me to set radio stations, either with the Radio Remote's control or the iPod's control.
I have spoken with an iPod specialist (Apple Care) and according to him Apple has acknowleged less than 100% compatibility/functionality with the Radio Remote and the Classics. One of the reasons, he stated, was that several 5G-Video iPods were "getting fried" when the Remote was not fully connected to the docking-port. So Apple has decided to reengineer the port [for better a connection, I gather]. What puzzles me the most about the new generation of iPods is why they were rolled out without warning customers that their Car-Charger, Video Player, dock, AV Cable, or APPLE'S OWN Remote will not play nice with each other!
This go around, it's find out the hard way.

  • IPod touch + Apple Dock + remote

Just dropped by to express rather bitter disappointment at the over-priced Apple dock+remote I just bought. For one thing it comes with no instructions, which would be fine if it 'just worked'. But it didn't. It would only control the volume, I couldn't play/pause or skip tracks.
Eventually I found a thread on here which stated correctly that the iPod has to be 'on' before you dock it for the remote to work.
I had read before I bought it that the 'menu' button wouldn't do anything with the iPod, though goodness knows why - it would be handy wouldn't it?
What wasn't clear is that the next/previous buttons don't do much either. If you choose an album (using the iPod, not the remote of course...) you can skip tracks, but when you get to the end of the album it dumps you back at a menu which you can't control. All you can do then is press play to start the first track of your main playlist, ie the song beginning with 'A'.
I don't understand why the dock remote is so weirdly crippled, especially when the interface of the iPod itself is so well thought out.
I do hope this will be addressed with a firmware update at some point.
Also... why does it only show the album art for the first track of each album and the default icon for the rest? It's a bit crappy.

This Apple remote requires a dock since this remote uses IR and the iPod does not ha IR capibility,.

  • Problem about my ipod HIFI remote

hi all, i got a hi-fi speaker for my ipod photo 30GB yesterday. but seems like the volumne buttons on remote don't fully work. i couldn't turn down the volume by using remote. and the menu button was not working too. so i was wondering if these are my problem or apple's. i need to make this clear before i take further action, if this is my own problem, so i will just take the product back to the store and get an exchange. i don't wanna waste my time on driving to the store if these problems also happens to other ppl who use ipod photo 30GB
    thx alot
    Mike

    Regarding the menu button -
The Menu button on the remote does not perform the same function as pressing the Menu button on the iPod. The Menu button on the Remote changes playback between the iPod and an audio device connected to the audio input port. Because the remote does not have a wheel or a select button, you cannot use the remote to navigate the menus or skip to a different playlist on iPod. You must use the iPod's controls to navigate the menus or choose another playlist.
For the volume button - please take off the battery inside the remote for 1 minute and put it back, also unplug the ac cord of the HiFi for a minute, reconnect it back. Hope it helps

  • HT1473 How do I get a purchased song to play on my ipod shuffle remote from the docking station?

How do I get a purchased song to play on my ipod shuffle remote from the docking station?

I can think of only one reason a song would be "converted" while it is being loaded on a shuffle.
Select the iPod in the iTunes sidebar, under DEVICES.  Over to the right, depending on iPod model, go to the Summary or Settings tab.  There should be a setting there that says Convert higher bit rate songs to 128 kbps AAC (the 128 kbps part may be adjustable).  If that checkbox is checked, try unchecking it.
NOTE:  This setting may allow more songs to fit on the shuffle, but for any converted song, the sound quality will become inferior.  So I don't use it.

The "watch" button on TV Remote app on iPad does nothing. How do I get it functional? Interestingly the "record" button works.

I chatted with an on-line rep yesterday and got this service restored as of yesterday.  The customer rep referred the issue to a technical rep and voila, the actors names are now displayed.

    Dear Apple Community,
I am in need of an ipod dock that includes a rf remote control with an LCD screen.  I am using a keyspan tuneview right now.  I love it.  I would purchase another one except they are discontinued.  Any ideas?

Or just buy a new receiver from say Yamaha, Onkyo, etc. and purchase the optional iPod dock with it.

New Ipod works OK in another dock whilst buttons work when another Ipod is in the new I Bass dock - therefore cannot identify which if any is faulty (new IPod or new Dock)- can anyone offer any help.

    Try the steps...
To reset the dock to work with all remotes
Then see if the remote works. You also don't really need to pair it unless you have multiple devices.
