Ipod does not connect to computer or show up in itunes

I plug my ipod into the computer and it does not show up in itunes. It worked when I first bought it 3 months ago and suddenly will not connect...
I have tried other computers as well as rebooting and then connecting but still nothing...
It is incredibly frustrating. Any ideas?

Same Problem. I have a 4 year old 40G click wheel. all was fine until today. now when i connect to my PC i do not hear the audible tone and nothing happens except my iPod turns on but i do not get the "Do not Disconnet" message and my iPod does NOT show up in iTunes. also, it causes my computer to lock up and i have to turn off the computer and reboot just to use my computer. tried reset; tried the disk mode. still not working. it did this yesterday once and i reset my iPod and all was fine. today, that doesn't work. any ideas????

  • 5th gen ipod does not connect to mac desktop or itunes

My ipod does not connect with my desktop or itunes (ie when I plug the ipod in using the original USB cable nothing happens--no charging no recognition that it has been connected). My nano does work with the same cable so I know it's not that. I've followed the support instructions resetting, downloading the latest software and restarting. I cannot, however, restore since the first step of the instruction is to connect the ipod and wait for it to show in the source list in itunes. It is also interesting that when I use the car charger the ipod does charge and shows the charging icon.
    Any suggestions?

I guess i can lend my voice to the conversation. my ipod "locks up" when i connect to my computer also. i just updated itunes and have not been able to connect. there is no ipod folder on my computer when i search through ""finder". i have to "reset" it after i disconnect to continue to play it. i have done everything short of "restoring" due to i have over 3000 songs and i'm unable to back up. the manuel refers to a disk to update. i can only play songs, and recharge. need help to.

  • Ipod does not respond to computer/Itunes, but reboots constantly.

I have been using the same Ipod since 2/14/2006 (Black 30GB-5th Generation). Never had any problems with it at all.
About 4 days ago, I updated to the latest version of Itunes (Ver 7.6.2.9.) and I have been having problems with my Ipod ever since. Everytime I connect my Ipod to the dock/computer to sync, it turns off by itself immediately and keeps rebooting over and over by itself when connected. My Ipod is not able to establish a connection with my computer or Itunes.
I have read other recent threads in regards to similar issues, namely "low battery" or a sad Ipod face, but I haven't had either appear on my Ipod yet. I have put Ipod in Disk mode and plugged it in with a full battery to no success, I have rebooted OVER 50 times in the past 48 hours. The battery is well charged and has not given me any issues, I changed the battery on the Ipod 2 months ago, but it never affected anything. I am able to charge the Ipod fully with my standard AC Charger. At first I thought it was that my computer was not giving enough power to my Ipod, but according to the other posts I read, that is not the case.
In addition, If by chance not enough power is the problem, how can I put more power in my Ipod when it is plugged into the USB port? Why did it change all of a sudden? Most dual AC Power Adaptor USB ports for Ipod have a firewire prong, but I do not have a firewire outlet in my computer to plug in. Can I connect the computer to AC power adaptor and then to Ipod docking station?
I have tried connecting Ipod to another USB port, no success either.
Help! Troubleshooting this on my own has taken its toll. I tried everything!

When i said reboot, I meant "restarts my Ipod".
I tried installing driver to no success. What could be wrong? My Ipod just doesn't communicate with my computer since the latest Itunes was installed.

  • My IPOD is not connected but computer says it is

I had a IPOD nano 2GB but I decided to upgrade to an IPOD 4GB so I can play videos. So far I am not impressed with it. On my old nano it was very organized. I had 2 playlists and and audioobok category. On my new IPOD I have a million categories and I can't seem to get it organized. I have music I don't want and can't seem to delete( songs aren't highlighted) I can't add a new playlist. So far I have music everywhere. I can't seem to add either I can't put the video where I want it. ETC ETC ETC. What is the problem? My old Nano seem to be so easy to use. Just plug it in the computer and voila. I tunes says it is pluggged in and updated, but nothing seems to working properly.
IPOD Nano 4GB Windows XP Pro
My new IPOD acts like it is not connected. That is why none of my songs are highlighted and I can't make a new playlist. Right now I have my new IPOD hooked on the computer to Itunes but it is not playing through itunes like the old one. I have tried to download the newest version of Itunes but it says I have the latest. The computer(Itunes) says it is connected and insync but for some reason not taking it. Do I need to take this back to the apple store?

Do the iPod Disk Diagnotic in this excellent post by tt2.
    If the report is good
Try using the USB 2.0 port at the back of the PC
    Disconnect all other USB devices
Dont use any other Apps while you are syncing or Restoring.the iPod.
Disconnect from Internet and stop the Antivirus or other monitoring software.

  • IPOD won't connect to Windows or show up in itunes...HELP

Have my daughter's 30 GB 5th Gen Ipod here. When you plug it into the computer with the cord, it will turn on, and charge. However I get a balloon come up that says "One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not regognize it. For assistance in solving this issue click this message." I clicked the message. It shows the Ipod in Device Manager as an "unknown device" and when you try to update the driver, it says there are no better drivers to install than the one currently installed. I have tried the 5 R's step by step several times, and that does not work. I can not restore it because it does not show up in itunes. I have tried it on other computers and it does the same thing. It plays the music she has on it, works fine, but we can not get it to connect to either computer. Her friend's Ipods connect to both our computers fine, and will download songs etc. I also have tried putting it into disc mode to see if it would go into itunes so we can restore it. Same message comes up when you have it in disc mode. I have also tried the "tap on the palm" suggestion, which made no difference at all. It just won't connect. I do have the newest version of itunes downloaded and installed.
I am at my wits end with this thing! PLEASE help me get this thing to connect.
    Thanks!

  • In updating my iPod to 6.1.2, I received an error during the update.  Now, ipod is not rebooting.  Has screen showing usb to Itunes picture.   Turning off and back on it goes back to this picture.  I don't know how to reset so that I can restore my backup

In updating my iPod to 6.1.2, I received an error during the update.  Now, my ipod is not rebooting.  It continues to display a screen showing usb to Itunes picture.   Turning off and back on, it goes back to this picture.  I don't know how to reset so that I can restore from my backup.
A similar thing happened when I updated the ios on my ipad.  But, I was able to reboot, and then restore from backup.   How can I get my ipod to reboot and allow restore when it is not even recognized as I reconnect to my computer?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • IPod Appears As Connected But Doesn't Show Up On iTunes

I synced my ipod (an 80GB Classic) the night before and when I turned it on later it was like a clean slate; no music, no videos, just some pictures. Well I tried to sync it today but itunes prompted me to restore it to its factory settings because there had been an error. Now when I try to connect it, it doesn't show up on my itunes even though my ipod itself shows connection has been made. I have tried "the 5 R's", have the latest version of itunes and still all I have to show are the same few pictures... I've only had it for a little over two months and have had no problems prior to this, can someone please help?

  • Ipod classic not connect the computer and not load, what do I do?

    Help me please!

Have you tried plugging the iPod into a different USB port on your PC?  Preferably a high powered USB 2.0 port on the back of your PC and not a USB port on the front or via USB hub.
With the iPod still connected to your PC, try a hard reset.  To do this, press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.
Otherwise, see this article for more troubleshooting suggestions.
