Ipod does not respond to computer/Itunes, but reboots constantly.

I have been using the same Ipod since 2/14/2006 (Black 30GB-5th Generation). Never had any problems with it at all.
About 4 days ago, I updated to the latest version of Itunes (Ver 7.6.2.9.) and I have been having problems with my Ipod ever since. Everytime I connect my Ipod to the dock/computer to sync, it turns off by itself immediately and keeps rebooting over and over by itself when connected. My Ipod is not able to establish a connection with my computer or Itunes.
I have read other recent threads in regards to similar issues, namely "low battery" or a sad Ipod face, but I haven't had either appear on my Ipod yet. I have put Ipod in Disk mode and plugged it in with a full battery to no success, I have rebooted OVER 50 times in the past 48 hours. The battery is well charged and has not given me any issues, I changed the battery on the Ipod 2 months ago, but it never affected anything. I am able to charge the Ipod fully with my standard AC Charger. At first I thought it was that my computer was not giving enough power to my Ipod, but according to the other posts I read, that is not the case.
In addition, If by chance not enough power is the problem, how can I put more power in my Ipod when it is plugged into the USB port? Why did it change all of a sudden? Most dual AC Power Adaptor USB ports for Ipod have a firewire prong, but I do not have a firewire outlet in my computer to plug in. Can I connect the computer to AC power adaptor and then to Ipod docking station?
I have tried connecting Ipod to another USB port, no success either.
Help! Troubleshooting this on my own has taken its toll. I tried everything!

When i said reboot, I meant "restarts my Ipod".
I tried installing driver to no success. What could be wrong? My Ipod just doesn't communicate with my computer since the latest Itunes was installed.

  • HT1369 Ipod touch not being recognized by itunes (but is registering as an external drive by the computer itself) have updated and reinstalled itunes, stopped/started apple mobile device and removed and mobile programs associated with my non apple cellpho

Ipod touch not being recognized by itunes (but is registering as an external drive by the computer itself) have updated and reinstalled itunes, stopped/started apple mobile device and removed any mobile programs associated with my non apple cellphone. This seems to have started happening after the last Itunes update I did as I was able to put music on my ipod touch a month or so ago. Is there some way to go back to an older version of itunes? I really have no idea what else to do since I followed every step on the trouble shooting page for windows 8.

I had this problem too and my roommate solved it!
    Go to 'Settings'
    'Music'
Scroll to the bottom and enter your password to log onto your home sharing
Then connect to iTunes and sync!

  • IPod does not respond at all when plugged in

Alright, this topic is for people who have had this exact problem only. I don't want to get this confused with other problems and have people trying to help troubleshoot multiple problems and get things mixed up. Here's the problem.
After updating to v1.1.2 of the iPod software, the iPod does not respond when plugged in. The iPod still works fine when not plugged in. It plays music and both the standard and shuffle play modes work accordingly. The problem is when you plug the iPod in, it doesn't charge and it doesn't mount. The orange blinking light does not come on. While plugged in, it works the same way as it does when you're listening to music with it. It's as if the iPod's USB connector is dead. Here is my original post and description of the problem.
Alright, so here's my story. I bought my 512MB Shuffle in April. It has worked perfectly fine since I got it. Last night, I updated to v1.1.2 of the iPod software, clicked no when it asked if I wanted to restart, added some songs to the iPod, then restarted. As of this morning, I went to listen to some music while out for a bike ride, and I was greeted with the red battery light. I thought it was a bit odd since I had left it plugged in overnight. I figured, what the heck, I'll just plug it in and let it charge when I get back. When I got back, I plugged it into my PC and left for a while. I came back later and went to grab my Shuffle and I noticed it was cold, which was unusual after charging for a couple hours. I plugged it back in, a bit frustrated, and it never came up in Windows. I looked at the iPod plugged into the back of my PC (a high powered USB port) and sure enough, no orange light. No lights at all. I can still slide the switch to one of the play modes (standard play or shuffle) and play music for a couple seconds before it stops and says the battery's dead again. It works.. I mean it turns on and plays music, it's just not charging or mounting when I plug it in. I tried multiple computers and USB ports, none of which worked. I would really like some help with this considering it IS my only source of portable music and I'm not going to go pay $50 to talk to tech support or have it sent in for repairs. That's half of what it's worth.
I've tried uninstalling all iTunes/iPod related software from the PC I normally use it on and reinstalling it. That didn't work. I also tried uninstalling again and installing the last known working version of the iPod software, still no results. The only thing I havn't tried is giving it a good beating... Not that I would. Anyways, I hope there's a solution to this that doesn't involve buying a new one.
Here's a rundown of the computers I tested it with.
    500MHZ G4 Cube (384MB RAM/Mac OSX Tiger)
    400MHZ G3 iMac (384MB RAM/Mac OSX Tiger)
4.2GHZ AMD 64-Bit running Windows XP Service Pack 2 (my PC)
    515MHZ Dell running Windows 2000 (256MB RAM)
UPDATE: The BIOS won't recognize the iPod, so it has nothing to do with my computer. Somehow, installing v1.1.2 of the iPod software made it so the iPod itself has USB problems. The iPod works to the extent of playing music and showing the battery charge level. I get no response at all when I plug it in, from the computer or the iPod.
I'm going to have to agree with Philip Harhay on this one. The original 10GB iPod I bought 3 years ago came with a full one-year warranty, no extra charges. I am disappointed to see the Shuffle only coming with a three-month warranty.

Help! I just purchase an iPod Shuffle for my son's birthday and I cannot get the darn thing to show up on my iMac G5. I am running OS 10.4.2 and I have downloaded the latest iPod and iTunes software. When I try to restore my iPod to the factory settings it tells me to plug the iPod into the computer, but it is plugged in. I have tried different USB ports, too. I'm running out of ideas and so is the trouble shooting Apple site. I was hoping someone out there might have some ideas.
It showed up at first and I transferred a few songs from the iTunes to the iPod but I couldn't get them to play, so I plugged it back into the USB and the icon never came up.

  • Help - iPod does not show up in iTunes or as disk in Windows Explorer

Would someone PLEASE tell me how to get my iPod to show up in iTunes or as disk in Windows Explorer?
According to our PC XP computers, we do not have an ipod and it won't charge when plugged into USB. It worked fine for 10 months until this morning (10/26/06). We have ruled out bad USB drive by using flash drive on that USB and it worked fine. Reseting ipod does not work (ipod does not respond to reset command hold toggle then hold menu + play for up to 10 sec). Reseting ipod within ipod menu does nothing. ANY suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!
    Thanks.

I have the same problem with my brand new 2 GB. I have reloaded software, gone through the "5 R's", tried the ipod on my PC and on my laptop -- neither computer recognizes or charges the ipod. Any info greatly appreciated.

To be more precise - works, but very, very bad. And around the icons on the display is visible GRAY line of width 1 px.

p.s. Maybe this problem arose because I reflash iPod with old cable from the iPhone?

  • If my apple ipod does not respond

If my apple ipod does not respond to on/off and screen does not respond to touch, does it go back to the shop where it was bought or does it have to be sent to apple?

For warranty work it depends on where you purchased it. Some resellers have a limited time for when it can be returned and after that you have to go to the manufacturer.
You can go to Apple at any time. Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • My iPod does not sync with my iTunes.

All of a sudden when I try to sync my iPod classic with my MacBook Air the iPod doesn't sync. I get the do not disconnect message, but the iPod doesn't mount as a device in iTunes. The iPod icon does show up on the desktop. I have tried all the suggested solutions on the Apple support page (reset, reload iTunes, etc.). Didn't work. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have an even older iPod that started doing the same thing occasionally. It may be that you have some bad sectors on your iPod hard drive. If you can get the iPod to mount in iTunes, you should do a complete restore. If it will not mount in iTunes you should try this:
    Unmount the iPod from desktop.
    Close iTunes.
Reconnect iPod. If iTunes does not open, great, go to next step. If iTunes opens, but iPod does not mount in      iTunes, close iTunes.
Open disk utility. Click on iPod volume, then choose erase tab.
    Choose Mac Os extended.
Ignore the warning that iPod won't work. You are basically reinitializing and reformating the hard drive.
After drive is erased/reformated, unmount the iPod.
    Open iTunes
Reconnect the iPod. It should now ask you if you want to install iTunes, etc, etc. and you should be able to      restore all your tunes.

  • HT1320 ipod nano 3g from EBay does not see my downloaded itunes but my pc sees them when connected to the nano

I can connect the ipod, the pc recognizes it, can download my itunes and see them at a latter date, they are all mp3 files.  The ipod knows that the right amount of merory was used (3.4 G) but does not see any music.  When I got the ipod the menue was funnyI was able (I think) to do a reset only after one of the Utube videos suggested toggling the lock swith several times, thid in supposedly refurbished device..  Is there such a thing as downloading original software to the nano?  Also, the itunes were on a 1g device.  Could my itunes software on the pc be out of date for this device?  If so, could that be fixed?  My android (unfortunately trashed) had no trouble accepting the download and playing them.  Thanks, Bob

Sounds like your iPod's software is corrupt. Connect it to iTunes and restore it.  This will wipe all data from the iPod, reset all settings back to their defautls, and install a fresh copy of the iPod's software onto the device.
    Restoring iPod to factory settings
Then resync all of your music back over to it.

  • IPod does not charge or turn on but is recognized in Windows and iTunes

A couple of days ago after disconnecting my iPod in iTunes the iPod display went blank. It will not turn on nor will it display if it is charging if it is connected to the wall power adapter. I tried reseting it and I let it sit for 24 hours like the apples website said and nothing happened. What did happen is that Windoes recognizes it and so does iTunes and the hard drive spins and is acessible. I let reset it and let it sit another 24 hours and it still does not turn on nor will the power adapter recognize it. The display does not appear broken and it physically looks good.
    Any ideas?

The only thing you haven't mentioned is whether you've tried to restore it. If that doesn't work, it looks like it will need service.
Restoring the iPod to factory settings.
Put the iPod into disk mode first.
    Putting iPod into disk mode.
Restoring erases the iPod hard drive, so you will need to reload your songs from iTunes.
