Ipod does not restore

have a 2nd gen ipod touch went to sync it and it did not finish and took forever. so I canceled it , then got a message that I would need to go into summary and restore it to factory settings . so I did and it kept failing saying that it couldn't update do to the fact my network was not connected or something like that. now itunes doesn't even recognize my I touch is there anything I can do

- For the network problem, disable the computer's antivirus and firewall during the download and restore the iPod.
- To get iTunes to see the iPod so yo can restore it, try:
--- Rebooting the computer
--- A reset
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Placing the iPod in Recovery Mode
- Placing the iPod in DFU mode.

  • Continuous endless cycle of restoring messages and iPod does not restore.

I have a black iPod Nano 4GB and I've been trying to restore it for hours. I have the latest iTunes and the latest iPod software.
Everytime I plug my iPod into my computer, it shows up in iTunes and iTunes says that I need to restore my iPod, so I click 'ok' and then I click 'restore'.
Then a window pops up saying that restoring it to it's orginial factory settings will erase songs, etc. So then I click 'restore'.
Then I wait and watch the progress bar.
Then a window telling my that my iPod is restored and to leave it plugged in pops up.
    So I leave it in.
iTunes says it'll appear in the source list, but then the same message saying that I need to restore my iPod keeps popping up.
Then it just keeps going in this endless loop of clicking 'restore' and a continuous cylce of windows appear on my screen.
This is probably like the 7th time this has happened, and it's so frustrating!!
    PLEASE HELP ME!

  • Ipod does not show up in I-tunes and does not allow me to Restore

My Ipod does not show up in I-tunes since I switched from my desktop to the laptop. When I connect to the laptop I-tunes freezes and stops responding. I have tried to update or restore my I-pod to start anew with my laptop but I get a message that says "Firmware update failure, disk write error"! My ipod still works but I cannot update my songs or sync it to the new laptop. Am I totally out of luck or can something be done to save this. Dont these come with a year warranty? Can Apple fix this if it is beyond my help?

    well done pezdzpnzer!
Unfortunately I am not able to take advantage of the USB 2.0. Is this permanent or did I just have to turn it off originally.
hmmm. now the initial synch has gone through, we might try experimenting with re-enabling the high speed interface (mentioned at the end of the other document.
it may also be worth checking up on this document:
iPod not recognized when connected to Windows laptop over USB
if the problem comes back/persists, it might be worth heading to the Toshiba website and checking for updates for your make and model. on some Toshiba laptops there was a general issue with the USB that was fixed by a BIOS update, and that helped with the ipod connection issues ... but the reports i saw here (a few months ago) didn't mention a specific model as far as i recall.
    merry christmas!

My ipod touch does not restore properly and comes up with an unknown error (9). What do I do? I have tried restoring it a few times and it keeps coming up with this error. Yet on Itune on my computer, it tells me that the ipod software is up to date. ipod screen is just showing the itune logo and a usb connector.

    Error 9
This error occurs when the device unexpectedly loses its USB connection with iTunes. This can occur if the device is manually disconnected during the restore process. This issue can be resolved by performing USB troubleshooting, using a different USB dock-connector cable, trying another USB port, restoring on another computer, or by eliminating conflicts from third-party security software.

  • IPod does not respond at all when plugged in

Alright, this topic is for people who have had this exact problem only. I don't want to get this confused with other problems and have people trying to help troubleshoot multiple problems and get things mixed up. Here's the problem.
After updating to v1.1.2 of the iPod software, the iPod does not respond when plugged in. The iPod still works fine when not plugged in. It plays music and both the standard and shuffle play modes work accordingly. The problem is when you plug the iPod in, it doesn't charge and it doesn't mount. The orange blinking light does not come on. While plugged in, it works the same way as it does when you're listening to music with it. It's as if the iPod's USB connector is dead. Here is my original post and description of the problem.
Alright, so here's my story. I bought my 512MB Shuffle in April. It has worked perfectly fine since I got it. Last night, I updated to v1.1.2 of the iPod software, clicked no when it asked if I wanted to restart, added some songs to the iPod, then restarted. As of this morning, I went to listen to some music while out for a bike ride, and I was greeted with the red battery light. I thought it was a bit odd since I had left it plugged in overnight. I figured, what the heck, I'll just plug it in and let it charge when I get back. When I got back, I plugged it into my PC and left for a while. I came back later and went to grab my Shuffle and I noticed it was cold, which was unusual after charging for a couple hours. I plugged it back in, a bit frustrated, and it never came up in Windows. I looked at the iPod plugged into the back of my PC (a high powered USB port) and sure enough, no orange light. No lights at all. I can still slide the switch to one of the play modes (standard play or shuffle) and play music for a couple seconds before it stops and says the battery's dead again. It works.. I mean it turns on and plays music, it's just not charging or mounting when I plug it in. I tried multiple computers and USB ports, none of which worked. I would really like some help with this considering it IS my only source of portable music and I'm not going to go pay $50 to talk to tech support or have it sent in for repairs. That's half of what it's worth.
I've tried uninstalling all iTunes/iPod related software from the PC I normally use it on and reinstalling it. That didn't work. I also tried uninstalling again and installing the last known working version of the iPod software, still no results. The only thing I havn't tried is giving it a good beating... Not that I would. Anyways, I hope there's a solution to this that doesn't involve buying a new one.
Here's a rundown of the computers I tested it with.
    500MHZ G4 Cube (384MB RAM/Mac OSX Tiger)
    400MHZ G3 iMac (384MB RAM/Mac OSX Tiger)
4.2GHZ AMD 64-Bit running Windows XP Service Pack 2 (my PC)
    515MHZ Dell running Windows 2000 (256MB RAM)
UPDATE: The BIOS won't recognize the iPod, so it has nothing to do with my computer. Somehow, installing v1.1.2 of the iPod software made it so the iPod itself has USB problems. The iPod works to the extent of playing music and showing the battery charge level. I get no response at all when I plug it in, from the computer or the iPod.
I'm going to have to agree with Philip Harhay on this one. The original 10GB iPod I bought 3 years ago came with a full one-year warranty, no extra charges. I am disappointed to see the Shuffle only coming with a three-month warranty.

Help! I just purchase an iPod Shuffle for my son's birthday and I cannot get the darn thing to show up on my iMac G5. I am running OS 10.4.2 and I have downloaded the latest iPod and iTunes software. When I try to restore my iPod to the factory settings it tells me to plug the iPod into the computer, but it is plugged in. I have tried different USB ports, too. I'm running out of ideas and so is the trouble shooting Apple site. I was hoping someone out there might have some ideas.
It showed up at first and I transferred a few songs from the iTunes to the iPod but I couldn't get them to play, so I plugged it back into the USB and the icon never came up.

  • Ipod does not appear in itunes after windows scan and fix

Two days ago, I restored my Ipod classic using Itunes 9.2.0.61. After restoration my Ipod started freezing Itunes and Vista. At a point, I saw a blue screen and my computer forced a shutdown. When it rebooted, Vista kept asking to automatically "scan and fix" problems on my Ipod. Thinking that would solve the "freeze" problem, I stupidly went ahead to have Vista scan and fix my Ipod. Now the freeze problem is gone, but my Ipod does not appear in Itunes. I have tried the five Rs from Apple, but that has not helped. Anyone with a solution?

    1. Update iTunes to the latest version. Plug in your iPod. If iTunes still can't recognize it, then in iTunes in the top left corner click help> run diagnostics. On the box that comes up, check the last two things. Click next and it should identify your iPod.
    2. Click on your windows start menu. Type in "services". Click on it and when it pops up, on the bottom of it click on "standard". Now Scroll down to find "Apple Mobile Device" Right click it when you see it and click on "Start". When it has started, close iTunes and replug in your iPod and it should show up.
    3. Check the USB cable
    4. Verify that Apple Mobile Device Support is installed
    5. Restart the Apple Mobile Device Service and verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed.
    6. If you just want to add some photos, songs and movies from computer to your devices, you can use an iTunes alternative to do the job.
    7. Check for third-party software conflicts.

  • 5th gen ipod does not connect to mac desktop or itunes

My ipod does not connect with my desktop or itunes (ie when I plug the ipod in using the original USB cable nothing happens--no charging no recognition that it has been connected). My nano does work with the same cable so I know it's not that. I've followed the support instructions resetting, downloading the latest software and restarting. I cannot, however, restore since the first step of the instruction is to connect the ipod and wait for it to show in the source list in itunes. It is also interesting that when I use the car charger the ipod does charge and shows the charging icon.
    Any suggestions?

I guess i can lend my voice to the conversation. my ipod "locks up" when i connect to my computer also. i just updated itunes and have not been able to connect. there is no ipod folder on my computer when i search through ""finder". i have to "reset" it after i disconnect to continue to play it. i have done everything short of "restoring" due to i have over 3000 songs and i'm unable to back up. the manuel refers to a disk to update. i can only play songs, and recharge. need help to.

  • Why do my songs and audio books keep getting erased when I add a new book?  Now some books will not play and the iPod does not keep track of where I was when I pause a book, leave for music and then go back!

About a month ago I added some new audio books to my iPod Classic and then after disconnecting, I discovered EVERYTHING had been erased.
I had to restore through my iTunes but then I could not load my music back on.
I uninstalled / reinstalled iTunes and completely reformated the iPod drive.
I successfully got my music and books back on but then added a new book two days ago only to discover everything got erased AGAIN!!!
Of course, my 1 Year Warranty was up about a week before the first incident.....
I formatted the iPod again, uninstalled / reinstalled iTunes (it was freezing during sync) and downloaded all my music and books again.
Now I have several books that will not play (they play on iTunes and they played on the iPod before all these events) and the iPod does not keep track of where I was in a book when I have to stop and go to something else.
Does anyone know what is going on with this thing???  I have a 5th Gen Video and in all the years I've had it, I've NEVER had problems like this!
Does anyone have any ideas on what I can do to get my iPod Classic up and running properly again?
    Thanks.

When iTunes/iPod sync process failed due to timeout, the iPod, has only the initilaised  filesytem structure at the start of the Sync.
The timeout failure could be due to
Bad hardisk - do the iPod disk diagnostic, refer to this excellent post by tt2
Slow USB port or resource - Dont use any USB hub, disconnect all other USB devices while syncing
Timeout due to Antivirus or other plugins - disconnect from Internet and stop the Antivirus or monitoribng software if you are syncing.
Preferably stop doing other things while syncing this ancient device, which the latest iTunes designer, think will soon be extinct.
    Have a nice day!

  • Ipod does not mount onto Mac OSX

My click wheel Ipod does not mount to my desktop nor to my Itunes. I tried resetting it but I cannot restore it because it does not mount. I also cannot open up the Ipod Update software file, it tries to open with Appleworks, then stops.

I have fixed my iPod blank/black screen problem (i suspect black screen for iPod5G black model, and white screen for the white model) On Black Friday, which was yesterday, after I upgraded the newest releases on QT/iTunes602/osx1044/iPod11, iPod didnt do anything, no mounting to my iBook/iMac/G5PwrMac. Hard reset didnt work, etc.
I decided to fix the iMac permission with local drive DiskUtility, then reboot the iMac with the Original Tiger iMac DVD software restor disc which comes with the desktop then repair the volume with this method. Then I reboot and then I did an extended hardware test with the same disc, but with the Hardware test disk (which is the same as software restore DVD, iinstead of holding down the c key, hold down the option key when reboot with the disc)
After all that, iMac restarted and recognize my 5G iPod 60GB, I quickly restore the whole iPod to manufacture setting, hopefully you have all the info backed up somewhere, I did a clean defractmentation, and then used the iPodUpdater from 11-17-2005 to restore the iPod 1.0 version.
Now I am done and my iPod works like new. Go try it guys... Good luck!

  • IPod does not shut off (? firewire problem ?)

My Ipod does not shut-off and I don't wan't any of the "have you trouble shooted" have you restarted your iPod"....yes and yes I have done all the troubleshooting and have restored my ipod. It says
"FireWire connections are not supported. To transfer songs, connect the USB cable provided.
    Press Center to Dismiss"
It says that on my iPod not on iTunes andI am connected to USB and I'm not even completly sure what a firewire port is and yes I do press eject everytime im done using iTunes and take out my iPod....I'm Stumped

    1. Try a different USB port on your computer.
    2. If that doesn't work, try a different cable to connect your iPod,
    3. If the above two steps do not work, check the connector on the bottom of your iPod and make sure there are no bent pins.
