Ipod does recognize restore...wont start up now!

i recently attempted to sync my ipod to update newly added songs from itunes today only to find that itunes "froze" and did not respond. I force quit itunes and waited for my ipod to disconnect....nothing happen and i disconnected after waiting for some time...my ipod appeared to be working normally but did not update the new songs....
so once again i attempted to sync my ipod as usual...this time itunes recognized my ipod only to say that it was "corrupt" and said to restore to factory settings. I did each step as needed and found that through the whole process the ipod failed to restore.
now each time i try to turn on my ipod i see the black apple screen for about 3 seconds, hear the hard drive click. I have tried to reset (menu and select) with the ipod disconnected, plugged into the usb with itunes open, and also to the power adapter. No success. I am guessing the firmware failed to restore correctly and the ipod has no firmware to boot up properly.
i am unsure of any solutions to this problem. if any one has had a similar experience or suggestions i would appreciate it greatly.
note: this ipod was purchased in the states, but at the moment i am study in new zealand. the only apple support is from authorized retailers so i hav eno attempted to send my ipod into apple for repair.
this ipod was also purchased last xmas (2005) so is almost a year old. is this still under warranty???
thank you,
curtis

Have you removed the RAM and reseated it? Here is the link to the Apple Knowledge Base article that tells you how to do it:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=111918
If reseating it doesn't help, it could be that the RAM is defective. (This happened twice with RAM I ordered. It was defective from the very start, and the vendor replaced it for me.) Try starting up with the 512 MB module removed and see it it starts up that way.
Please let us know how things go.

Connect it with iTunes and see what happens, from there attempt a restore, if it doesn't work take it to an Apple Store.

  • My ipod switched off and wont start now. what should i do?

Ipod went off on its own and isnt starting now.

After conncting to a chargng source for half an hour:
    - Reset the iPod:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Next try connecting it to your computer.  If iTunes sees the iPod, restore the iPod via iTunes
    - If iTunes does not see the iPod. see if placing the iPod in recovery mode will allow iTunes to see the iPod so you can restore the iPod. For recovery mode see:

Jailbreaking voids the Apple warranty and also mean that you will not get support from Apple, including from this Apple forum.

  • Ipod does not restore

have a 2nd gen ipod touch went to sync it and it did not finish and took forever. so I canceled it , then got a message that I would need to go into summary and restore it to factory settings . so I did and it kept failing saying that it couldn't update do to the fact my network was not connected or something like that. now itunes doesn't even recognize my I touch is there anything I can do

    - For the network problem, disable the computer's antivirus and firewall during the download and restore the iPod.
    - To get iTunes to see the iPod so yo can restore it, try:
    --- Rebooting the computer
    --- A reset
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

  • HI my ipod touch 4th gen wont start sync with itunes.

Itunes recognises the ipod but keeps saying sync session failed to start. It starts off as though it is going to sync by saying step 1of 8 but times out after a few minutes without syncing very frustrating. Any ideas would be welcome. I have restored the ipod and re-installed Itunes

If it stops while trying to backup (step 1 or 2) , try to delete the latest backup in iTunes/Edit/Preferences/Devices. If iTunes can't read the backup, it can't replace it and start the sync process.
Check this article about the location of the backup folder, you might want to back it up before you delete the backup. iTunes: About iOS backups

  • My iPod Touch 3rd generation wont start back up after turning it off

It all started when I was downloading an update for my twitter app and when it got to "Installing..." it got stuck like that for a while so I turned the ipod off (holding the power button off) and turned it back on. So when I tried to turn it on, it gives me the Apple logo for a while then it gets the "loading sign" stuck. After 5 minutes stuck or so with the loading sign, it turns off by itself and turns back again with the Apple logo. Updating an app and getting stuck has happen to me before and it worked well turning the iPod off completley and turning it on again. And funny thing its always the Echofon Twitter App that always gets stuck when updating.
I tried connecting the iPod to my laptop and opening iTunes but when the iPod gets turned off, on the itunes it gaves me a sign that says "Ipod cannot be found. It is not sync..."
So i need help turning on my iPod back on.
    - I've never jailbroken the iPod
    - Home Button does not work

    Try:

Where it says use recovery mode, use one of these programs to place the iPod in recovery mode

  • IPOD Formatted !! Wouldnt start up now

    hi all,
i formatted my ipod 5G 30GB using the restore instructions from apple's website. all went well except after completion an icon showed up showing a power adapter going into wall and everything went blank. i checked the iconography website and it showed it needs to be plugged into a wall charger. this was sunday night so waited till monday after work and bought one. nothing is happening. screen isnt frozen, it just wouldnt boot up. tried different USB ports in 4 different computers. 3 different ipod cables. tried resetting by holding down select + menu buttons, toggled the Hold switch but nothing is showing up. before i claim it for warranty issue, i would like to know what could be the possible solution ?
ps> warranty activation date is Feb 21 2006.

I was having exactly the same problems as you just now, so I laid my iPod flat out on my desk and held down the Menu + Select buttons with my thumb and index finger, with reasonable pressure. Voila, 5 - 10 seconds later the Apple logo appeared. I popped it back into its dock and works fine again.
    Hope this works for you.

  • I replaced my iBook's RAM (256MB) with a 512MB, and it wont start up now!

Hello! I just replaced my existing 256MB RAM with a 512MB of RAM. When I started up my iBook, all that came up was a flashing OS 9 looking folder to the same folder with a question mark on it. What does that mean? Do I have to reflash the P-RAM or something (whatever that means)? I never attempted to replace laptop ram before, so I do not know if I did something wrong, or if I just don't have the right kind of memory. Could someone help me? Thanks!
Just for the record, I think im running OS 10.4.9. Thanks!!!!!

Have you removed the RAM and reseated it? Here is the link to the Apple Knowledge Base article that tells you how to do it:

  • Updated itunes to use ipad mini and itunes wont start up now?

i have a ipad3 + iphone4 + ipod touch and just brought ipad mini pluged it into itunes then itunes says have to update to use with ipad mini so i updated it like normal restarted pc and now doesnt work try reinstalling and repairing files still didnt work any ideas?

If anyone would like to know how to fix this, I discovered the answer.
I have no idea what IPv6 is and I care not, but apparently now, all of a sudden, Apple makes iTunes talk to Airport Express units using IPv6. However, it didnt bother to make the Airport Express units expect this first, so iTunes can see the Airport Express, but it cant talk to it.
Anyway, I found that you have to manually go into your Mac settings (scary stuff if you are a non technical person like me) and turn off IPv6.
To do this, go to "Finder > Go > Utilities > Terminal"
    type
    networksetup -setv6off Wi-Fi  (hit enter)
    Then type
    networksetup -setv6off Ethernet (hit enter)
and magically your iTunes will talk to your Airport Express units again.
I presume at some point we will have to undo this as technology moves on and everything uses IPv6, so when that happens go into Terminal again and type
    networksetup -setv6automatic Wi-Fi  (hit enter)
    Then type
    networksetup -setv6automatic (hit enter)
    Thanks Apple for that.

  • Continuous endless cycle of restoring messages and iPod does not restore.

I have a black iPod Nano 4GB and I've been trying to restore it for hours. I have the latest iTunes and the latest iPod software.
Everytime I plug my iPod into my computer, it shows up in iTunes and iTunes says that I need to restore my iPod, so I click 'ok' and then I click 'restore'.
Then a window pops up saying that restoring it to it's orginial factory settings will erase songs, etc. So then I click 'restore'.
Then I wait and watch the progress bar.
Then a window telling my that my iPod is restored and to leave it plugged in pops up.
    So I leave it in.
iTunes says it'll appear in the source list, but then the same message saying that I need to restore my iPod keeps popping up.
Then it just keeps going in this endless loop of clicking 'restore' and a continuous cylce of windows appear on my screen.
This is probably like the 7th time this has happened, and it's so frustrating!!
    PLEASE HELP ME!

Have you had a chance to look at this troubleshooting page? Have a look at the bottom section that covers what to try if restoring doesn't work, it may be of some help: iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode - Use iTunes to restore

  • I have updated my ipod mini and It wont start anymore! :(

I have installed the new update on my mini and then i follow everything correctly i connect my ipod to a ipod power adapter i did toggle the hold switch on and off and at last press and hold the menu and select button for at least 6 seconds...and it is dead meat....
There is no signs of living thing in my ipod ....
Its killed i have done everything to make it work again but it wont :(*

That is true.  you purchase one download only of music/vids/etc.
    You can redownload apps only.
Did you update without making sure that you had transferred all purchases from the ipod to itunes?  not good.
From the itunes store terms of service:
"PRODUCTS CAN BE DOWNLOADED ONLY ONCE; AFTER BEING DOWNLOADED, THEY CANNOT BE REPLACED IF LOST FOR ANY REASON. YOU SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR BACKING UP YOUR OWN SYSTEM, INCLUDING ANY PRODUCTS PURCHASED OR RENTED FROM THE ITUNES STORE THAT ARE STORED IN YOUR SYSTEM."
You can try contacting itunes support and asking for an exception.  They are under no obligation to allow.
