My ipod doesn't charge or come up on itunes on my computer. What can I do?

If it still does not work after restoring to factory settings/new iPod that either indicates a hardware problem with the iPod or that the doc is not compatible with your model iPod and iOS. you can make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store to hear what they have to say.

my gen 4 iPod doesn't charge, the usb cable is good(works on other apple products) What should i do?

What normally happens is most people take showers and listen to thier ipods or live around many sources of humidity. Moisture corrodes the 30 pin connector on the ipod touch. Clean and inspect the ipod touch's connection pins to resolve most charging/ sync issues.. The pins could also be dirty, bent or broken. If dirty: Take 91% rubbing alcohol, dip a tooth brush into it, shake the excessive alcohol off leaving the brush damp(don't use to much alcohol, it should not be dripping). Careful!!! The Pins are Very Fragile! Gently brush the connector pins, long ways, left to right in a few second bursts, inspecting the pins as you go... If you have an eye loop or magnifying glass you can see inside the connector easily and see if the pins look dirty or bent or broken. If they are bent you have to VERY GENTLY stand them back up. If they are bent very far down, chances are you will snap them off trying to straighten them back up. If they are not severely bent over, use a very small flat head precision screw driver to bend the pin back parallel with the good pins. Pease note: certain pins are used by the wire for different things such as sync or charging... If your pins are broken off, do a search and find out what the individual pins on the ipod 30 pin connector do to see what is affected. Worst case is your pins are broken off. U can attempt to solder the broken pins back on without opening the ipod touch, which is super difficult to do, or you can open the touch and repair/replace to 30 pin connector entirely. U will need to do some micro soldering to say to least! Don't attempt unless you are confident in your soldering skills and research how to open an ipod touch? You will need some specific tools and watch out for floating LINT! Get some canned air ;) use a small 1/2 second bursts from 4-6" away because it will steam up you touch if used for to long. Good luck!

• Ipod doesn't charge except with usb

My 30 gig video only charges through the usb cable via computer. It doesn't charge with older firewire adapter, and I just bought an ez-trip car charger/fm modulator and it doesn't charge either. Any ideas?

Hmmm. I'm able to charge my iPod video or nano using a firewire cable from my Power Mac. The iPod reports that synching is not supported via Firewire but it charges.

• My iPod doesn't charge anymore.

My iPod won't charge anymore. I have tried charging via different USB ports on my laptop, as well as connecting it to various power outlets, to no avail. I also tried rebooting it, with the same result. The model number is MC544LL/A, and I have had it for about 2 years now. Any help or suggestions would be most welcome. Thank you!

- Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.

• IPod doesn't charge through USB 2.0 on PC

Hi all
I have a 30gb iPod video that came new yesterday. However, the battery is quickly running down and the unit won't charge properly. When I first connect the iPod to the USB port the charging flash appears at the battery icon and the iPod seems to continue charging while iTunes starts up. However, after 15 minutes or so, or as soon as iTunes has finished updating the iPod, which ever is sooner, the charging icon stops and the battery doesn't seem to take any more charge.
The iPod was plugged in for about 14 hours over night last night but the battery meter only showed half full this morning and the unit ran out of power after an hour or so of playback. Now whenever I plug it in, it charges for the couple of minutes it takes for iTunes to start and sync up and then stops again so the battery is still almost empty.
Is there anything I can do? Is the iPod battery faulty, or would buying the separate mains charger help?

Thanks, this is exactly the kind of thing I was suspecting and hoping for. However, I don't seem to have that option. I'm running windows 2000 professional and under My Computer -> Properties -> Hardware Device Manager I can select two different USB root hub items which have 'Power' tabs but on that tab there is only information about the amount of power devices on that hub are drawing, there are no options to be changed, nor on the other available tabs.
I'm using a USB port on the back of the computer as those are the only ones installed on the machine. I'm wary of buying the power adapter as, if this is a problem with the battery, I'll be laying out money for nothing.
But thanks for the replies

• My Ipod doesn't charge :s

Hi everyone!
When I connect my Ipod to my pc it says « charging is not supported with this accessory» so it never charges. What can I do?
Thank you for your answers!
xxx

I already reseted all the settings (not the way you wrote it like the way we can select in the settings app) and nothing changed.
I'll try this way! Thank you!
I do not have another cable now (I was hoping there was a solution) but if it still doesn't I will surely get a new one!
I will also change my charging source if it still doesn't working but I was really wondering why it didn't worked! I used the same PC as my charging source since I got my new Ipod in november!
I don't think there's any abnormalities and Itunes sees my Ipod but not EVERY time :s
Thank you for your answer!

• My iPod doesn't charge when I put it in the plug or even in my computer

I have a iPod 5 and when I tried to charge it today I noticed a hour later after coming back to check on it that it was a red battery! I checked to make sure my light was on to say that it was active. It was active so I took out the charger and put it back in it charges for about a minute and then stops. I take it to my computer and put the cord in to see if anything different would happen it chargers for a minute then stops I don't know what to do I don't even know what's going on if its my iPod or my cord or my plug or even my computer?

• IPod doesn't charge properly

My daughter plugs her iPod into my iMac to charge and it charges just enough to work and then stops charging. Then she can play with it for a few minutes and it will warn her to plug it in to charge it even though it IS still plugged in. This has been going on for months, though inconsistently. What's going on?

• IPod doesn't charge long enough!

I just bought iPod 30GB and connected it to my iTunes. Ipod charged for an hour and then the battery was full. How is this possible? I understood it has to load around 4 hours for the first time. This has happened before with another iPod, is there something wrong with my computer??

• Ipod Touch doesn't charge while on, but charges while off?!

Hi,
I have an Ipod Touch 3rd Gen that I got shortly before xmas last year.
The problem is that since the weekend it doesn't charge. I'm using a charger and my wife's ipod charges fine with it, so that rules out the charger.
My problem is rather peculiar, the Ipod doesn't charge when it is on. But when the battery is low and it powers down, then it starts to charge. The moment it has enough charge the Ipod powers up again (when the black screen with the nearly empty red battery and the thunder sign disappears and you can now slide and use the ipod) at this time the ipod STOPS charging.
I have tried up to restarting and no luck. I'm unconfortable going to for SW upgrade if the device is on such a critical power level. Any suggestions?
It is running OS 3 (can't tell exactly which version, I did update the last time around xmas).

An update on this: Tried plugging to the PC and it behaves the same way, what's worse is that it wasn't recognised. The PC detects an USB device but it can't work out its an Ipod.
Tried with the wifes (same model and SW) and it works fine with the PC. My guess is a faulty USB interface.

• IPod classic not recognized in iTunes and in Finder, doesn't charge

iPod classic not recognized in iTunes and in Finder, doesn't charge and even doesn't charge outside of Macbook. I've tried rebooting Mac, rebooting iPod, I installed once again iTunes but nothing works Everything was fine until the latest iOS and iTunes update. Please help me :-)

Hello,
The cord might be the case, but first, try these suggestions:
Try putting your iPod into disk mode, then try connecting it to your computer again...
<a href="How to put your iPod into disk mode
Do you have a wall charger? If so, then try connecting your iPod to that, and does it charge, or not?
Have you checked this link out?:
iPod doesn't charge correctly
Does your iPod appear in "My Computer"? If so...
iPod shows up in Windows but not in iTunes
If not...
iPod missing in "My Computer" or in iTunes
Post back on what happens when you try these things out. I hope this helps!
