IPod doesn't play podcasts??

Ok, so I sent my iPod to be repaired....replaced the cables....reset, restored, reformatted, re-everything over and over again. In the end it still freezes or resets about 80% of the time when I play podcasts on it. It happens at various times on various podcasts. It could happen within a few seconds or possibly a few minutes....if I am very lucky it might make it all the way through the podcast. I have worked with multiple layers of apple support, and nothing works.
Well, it all came down last night. Basically, my support person told me that if this last reformat and restore didn't help (which it didn't), then there wasn't much they could do for me because they don't guarantee that the iPod will play podcasts. What?! Sure, I understand that they can't guarantee any particular podcast, but I am referring to any and ALL podcasts. When I hear that from Apple it means that the following must be true:
An iPod that will not play ANY podcasts can still be categorized as fully functional and acceptable for purchase.
I'm sorry but I find that to be unacceptable. Half the reason my wife bought me the iPod Nano as a birthday gift was so I could listen to podcasts (and we aren't talking about some slacker's blogcast...this is the NYT, NPR, etc).
Am I missing something??

I have found another disadvantage to using Dopi.
I've had times when a podcast doesn't get downloaded fully: after downloading an episode of an hour-long program the podcast shows up in iTunes as being just, say, 23 minutes long. Normally you could delete that episode, click the right-pointing arrow in the line with the name of the show (NOT the line for the episode) to bring up the show in the iTunes store, and download the episode again (and again, and again, sometimes).
If an episode doesn't download properly in Dopi, clicking on that arrow in the show name's line brings up the show's website, and often you cannot simply get a particular episode of the podcast from that website.
This is not so much a complaint about Dopi -- not much they can do about it, I reckon -- but about the fact that we need something like Dopi at all. Feh.
For me, it is only "Talk of the Nation - Science Friday" that I want in order, as they break up the two-hour show into segments (convenient, yet not so for the Shuffle) and often talk about what's been said in a previous segment, which for me comes later. I've dropped Dopi and now I either load just one segment of Science Friday with a few other shows, or I load all the segments and mutter under my breath when I hear references to a previous segment I'll not hear until after the current one.

  • IPhone Doesn't Play Podcast Videos

My iPhone doesn't play podcast videos - it shows a static picture then plays the corresponding audio, is this a configuration issue in iTunes or iPhone - or is this a disappointing defect? Thanks ...

Not so much a bug, but a difference in behavior from the iPods.
In the iPod, you can make a playlist under Music->Playlist and it can contain both audio and video files. It will play the audio files fine, then the audio-only of the video files in the list. Having videos in a music playlist seems like a bug, but this "feature" allows you to just hear audio of video files if you desire (like listening to a movie without running the video screen).
If you go in to Video->Playlists instead, you play audio, then switch to video when it hits a video item in the list.
On the iPhone, the concept of Video Playlist is unavailable, only a playlist via TV Shows. So, I can't do it like I've been doing it for the past year or so on my iPod with Video.
I'm working on workarounds right now. I tried toggling all the vidcasts to "TV Show" video type, so they can be added to a TV Show playlist, and that sorta-works but isn't graceful (if I can make it work, I'll provide an iTunes script to do this for us).
I also found out by downloading the podcasts (check them off specifically) they can be made to show up in the video section, but just having them in an Audio Playlist isn't enough.
    More research...

  • 30G iPod doesn't play audio in movies or videos

My 30G iPod doesn't play audio in movies or videos... Can anybody help me?
    Thanks!

What is the source of the videos and movies? Downloaded from the iTunes store or did you convert them from other sources? If the latter...
QuickTime expects video files with separate video and audio tracks, but many MPEG formats used a muxed (multiplexed) single track that contains both. Therefore, iTunes & the iPod (both of which use QuickTime) only show the video and no sound.
iPod plays video but not audio of some exported files

One way to work around this is to use MPEG Streamclip to convert the files to fix this issue...

  • My iPod doesn't play songs...it's scanning them. Help.

My iPod doesn't play the songs. When I select a song, I press play and it bounces right back to the menu. Then, all on its own, it begins to scan through everyone of my 1,200 songs. What's happening? I did restart it an also re-booted the pod...nothing...same thing. Any suggestions? Would it help if I erased everything in the iPod?

Yep, a restore would probably be the next step.

  • Ipod doesn't play the songs! please help!!

when i try to play a song, the title of the song just like sits there but it doesn't play, like the numbers don't go forward, it just sits at 0:00. It isnt frozen because i can change the volume and do everything else. When i click the middle button to toggle from volume to how far into the song i am, if i scroll over a bit to make me further in the song, it just changes to the next one.
Just now i tried going to the next song or something and whats happening now is every song i have is like popping up on the screen, like its scrolling through all my songs one by one till it got to the end and now its at the main menu.
    Can anyone please help????

Try resetting your iPod and/or resyncing the files to the iPod. Also below are two articles that may help

  • ITunes doesn't play podcasts in random mode

    Hi.
I'm trying to play my podcasts mixed with the rest of my library in random mode. But it seems not to work.
iTunes random session doesn't play any podcast, unless you put them on it manually, what makes random session to play those songs forever (until you erase it).
I tried to create an automatic playlist with all my songs (including podcasts). The playlist is created fine but when I play it in random mode, it jumps the podcasts.
Any ideas of what can I do? Thanks.

First of all, thank you for answering so soon.
    I'm using iTunes 6.0.2.23.
The playlist is a smart playlist and it has to agree with three rules:
    1- Podcast is true
2- My classification is (zero stars)
3- My classification is more than (zero stars)
With that, I create a playlist with all my songs, plus podcasts. And it is well created.
If I play that playlist NOT in random mode, it plays all the songs, including podcasts.
But if I play that playlist in random mode, it jumps the podcasts.
    Goodbye.

  • 5G iPod doesn't play sound

I have a 5G 30GB iPod that just today stopped playing and sound. It still lets you scroll through the menus and also shows its playing a song, but you cannot hear anything. It won't play sound through the headphone jack, and I also have an Alpine CD Player with the iPod direct connect cable, and that does not work as well. I reset the iPod today and that did not do anything, and I also tried restoring it and that did not fix the problem as well. I contacted Apple support and found out it would cost $130 to fix my iPod, but the lady I talked to could not tell me what is exactly wrong with the iPod because she had never heard of this problem before. I'm basically looking to hopefully fix it myself since I dont want to shell out $130 to repair it, but probably will give in if I cannot fix this myself.

mine does the same thing...i got it replaced once under warranty and they gave me a "new" one which began to malfunction 3 months after i got it :\ It plays the music all staticy and when i took it in they told me nothing was wrong with it...but it doesn't play and ive changed the head phones and reset it and run all the diagnostic tests...needless to say im very dissappointed with apple right now! what makes it worse is when i took it in the ipod wasn't even registered to me which means they gave me someone else's ipod which had been replaced! but since it was out of warranty when i found out it was 140 to get a new one if they found something wrong with it. so idk but this is my 2nd 5G ipod and i think its a bug that is in all of them.

  • Ipod doesn't support podcasts??

after downloading podcasts and syncing with my ipod, an error message pops up that says my ipod doesn't support those podcast types (which were video podcasts, and i have an 80g video ipod...) and previous podcast episodes are missing on my ipod, but not on my itunes library. can someone please help?

Hmm... I wonder if maybe the podcast's producer changed some settings on their video software, rendering the episodes incompatible with the iPod. Right click on one of the problematic episodes, and choose the option to convert for iPod/iPhone. Then see if you can sync to the iPod.

  • Ipod Classic continues playing podcasts after it ends

I recently bought an iPod classic and upgraded from a second generation iPod. On my second generation iPod when ever a podcast ended the iPod would stop and not play any further ones unless I directed it to.
On the iPod classic it moves on to the next one automatically. This is something I find highly irritating and would love to know how to disable. Can anyone help me please?

Hi, i have a logic 3 £20 of amazon which seems to work fine, the only prob i had with it is that it kept saying battery full and i had to press play on the remote to restart the music.
Does anyone know if the problem your talking about is with all speaker systems or just certain ones? Anyone know which ones work fine with it as im looking for a new speaker system for it.
    Thanks

  • IPod doesn´t play songs anymore - it just keeps skipping through the playli

    st
When I select to play a song - no matter if selected from the menu via interpret / album or title, it goes to the list of songs, but doesn´t play them. It keeps skipping the tracks (1 to 2, to 3 and so on) until the end of the playlist is reached. Then, it returns to the main menu. Is it just some software bug, which can be solved or is it broken?
    I appreciate any help!

You can use yamipod http://www.yamipod.com/main/modules/home/ to copy from iPod to the PC. If the files are damaged/corrupt on the iPod tho this won't do much good cuz you'll just have a copy of damaged files. Just use yamipod to copy and see if they play fine on the PC. If they do then you can continue with a restore using the iPOd updater. If that does not work it MAY be that the iPod is damaged and you will have to send it in for repairs

  • Ipod doesn't play playlist in order

I got a new Ipod about 5 months ago and ever since I got it, the songs I put in playlists do not play in the order I put them. This also happens if I get new songs and add them to the playlist they are skipped over until the end (if they play at all.) Why does my ipod just randomly shuffle my playlists? I checked the settings and there is nothing I can figure out to do. Please help. I gave away my old ipod when I got this new one now i'm regretting it. Thanks!

Try deleting the songs off your ipod and then plugging it into itunes and re-syncing them to the device, whenever my ipod plays up with the music, thats what i do, but if in your case this doesn't work, and this feature is really necesary for you, restore/reset your ipod.

  • IPod doesn't play the whole song

I have a couple of songs that are about 5.5 minutes long. However, whenever I play them on my iPod the songs always end at 5 minutes. I don't have this problem when I play the song on iTunes. The songs were not ripped from a CD, but are mp3 files. Is there any way to fix this?
By the way, I have a 4th generation iPod if that matters.

    I maybe can answer.
One reason can be if you didn't update you iPod correctly, that happend to me.
And the other reason can be that you didn't convert your CD's correctly, that have happend me too.
That's what i know, try to update iPod again, if that doesn't work. Then erase your songs from the list and import then again.
    It worked for me.
