IPod doesn't show in iTunes after restoring

I put some new songs on my iPod before I went on holiday and once I got there songs that I'd had for month and had previously played fine were skipping part way through. Once I got home I plugged my iPod in and it wasn't recognised in iTunes. I tried again and the same thing happened. I left it a few days and then googled it which suggested holding the menu and select button at the same time once plugged in, it then was shown in tunes but said the iPod was corrupt and needed restoring. There was also a windows pop us saying that USB drive (my iPod) needed formatting which meant I would lose all content. As I had all that backed up I clicked ok and the format was complete. I then proceeded to restore my iPod it said once restore is complete the iPod will shut down after 9 seconds and then will show up in the iTunes bar which never happened (the whole time the iPod had a dull apple logo on screen) and was only shown in my computer. So I safely removed it and turned the laptop off and on again plugged the iPod back in only for the same messages to appear even the the iPod was now empty, had been restored and formatted. I selected restore and format a With the same results I repeated this 2/3 times before I gave up. The iPod will turn on and display ect although it says it's only got 2gb left (of 160) when in theory it should be empty and I never had anywhere near that music on the iPod. I googled the problem and found suggestions to hold the menu and select buttons and the left and select to enter a SMART hard drive or something which I did and the numbers looked very high in comparison. So now my iPod has no music on, almost full memory and when plugged in to iTunes needs restoring everytime and still doesn't work after that. Any help would be great thanks

yes, i have tried the one that came with shuffle and downloaded newest version, no luck. after getting error updating message, i also get a message "an ipod is attached, but not mounted on the desktop". also ipod flashes orange while in usb port. don't know if that means anything?

  • Ipod doesn't show in itunes, vista installed, also, thinks it's syncing...

I really don't know what to put for a subject! Itunes and my ipod shuffle ran perfectly under Windows XP. I have a LOT of music successfully loaded (from itunes purchases and my own cds) on the 'pod. It plays fine. Problem is, computer bit the dust. I decided to upgrade to Vista instead of reloading XP (couldn't find the **** CDs to reinstall XP). Now, my ipod doesn't show up in itunes and I get that **** "ipod is synced with another library.. do you want to erase this ipod and sync with "this" itunes lib." box. "This" itunes library consists only of songs I've purchased from itunes.... none of the cd music is there. and the only option that itunes seems to be giving me is to blow away what's on my 'pod now and install the tiny library of itunes purchases. The wierd thing is, it's all on the same **** computer... just the OS changed (from XP to Vista).
What I WAMT to do is somehow get itunes to see my 'pod and copy the music that's on my pod back into itunes where it all came from in the first place and put my latest itunes purchases (since changing OS's) on my 'pod. Jeeze. sounds so simple. Unbelieveable.

    TIA for any help.
HP Pavilion 523n   Other OS   running Vista

In iTunes, go to the File Menu and select the 'Add to Library' option.
In the window that appears navigate to the folder that has all the music from the old version of iTunes (i.e. where the music is currently stored on your computer), and select the folder.
This should then add all the music back into your iTunes (it may make a copy)
You will now be able to connect your iPod and let it sync to the computer.

  • TS1373 plugged in new ipod, doesn't show in itunes

purchased new ipod nano touch, plugged into computer, doesn't show in itunes, when plugged in just shows as white screen and says do not disconnect, but never does anything.

Maybe your ipod is not formatted for the pc. Try reformating it to FAT.

  • None of my iPod 5g Content shows in iTunes after backup

After performing my ritual backup before I updated to 8.2, all the music and video content that is STILL ON my ipod does not show up in iTunes.  The files are still on the iPod and it works fine on it's own.  The iPod itself shows up in iTunes, but the Music, Movies, TV & Ringtones all show up blank, but the books still show up.  I tried to copy some new music on there but it will not transfer.  This basically means I currently don't have the ability to edit/add/delete any of the content on my iPod.
I have tried to reset it several times with no change, since this happened during a backup, the backup is no help.  Have tried it on other computer with newest version of iTunes with same result.
Really ****** it happened during a normal backup.  Really don't want to start over from scratch since I have the 64GB and it is pretty much full.
    Any suggestions?

I Think it is showing you what it is set to sync, not your iPod contents, which as you noted, is almost full.
It does this all the time, it predicts how much space the chosen sync will consume.  If you select sync music, etc, it would change to show full.

  • IPod doesn't show under iTunes devices

I can't get my iPod or Shuffle to show under Devices in iTunes.  I've downloaded the latest iTunes, tried different cables, have "Devices" turned on in System Preferences.  They both worked fine up until now.

    Hello poopoo15,
I would be concerned too if my iPod and iPod shuffle was not recognized by iTunes.  I recommend reviewing this article for steps to take when your iPod is not recognized in iTunes:

  • IPod Doesn't Show In iTunes (Windows XP)

My iPod Classic won't show up in iTunes because earlier, I had accidentally checked a box on my iPod settings (within the iTunes program) that said not to display settings for that iPod in iTunes automatically, or not to automatically sync the iPod. If you know how to sync the iPod manually and set iTunes back to its original settings of just plugging in the iPod and automatically getting the settings menu, could you please help me? Thanks!

I had a similar problem after accepting an ipod software update on 1/4/08. Mine began the restart, with the progress bar appearing on the ipod screen. It did go all the way across, but then my ipod began restarting itself over and over again. It kept doing this when I disconnected from the PC, tried connecting to another pc, and tried plugging in to an electrical outlet. I finally got it to start by following the "put into disk mode" instructions (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651). I did have to press the "select" and "play" buttons immediately once the logo appeared after I pressed the "menu" and "select" buttons. Once in disk mode I reset the ipod and it's working fine now. Hope this helps.

  • IPod Doesn't Show In iTunes

I recently updated my system software and now my iPod Touch (3 Gen) and iPad 1 will not show up on iTunes.  They will charge and open iPhoto when connected, but they do not show up as a devise and will not sync.
    Mac Mini with OS10.6.8
    iTunes Ver. 3.1 (55)
I followed the troubleshooting instructions in
      http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1591
and uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled iTunes as it suggested and it worked until I restarted the computer.  It seems unreasonable to have to reinstall iTunes every time you want to sync.
    Any ideas?

  • 2nd gen ipod won't show in itunes after 7.3.1.3 update - win xp

    hi.
home built xp pro Sp 2 machine - NO USB 2.0 ports. 1 gig ram
iPod Nano 4 gig, been working fine since september.
iTunes decides to update to 7.3.1.3 last night overnight.
It updates but I forgot to reset in the morning.
plugged in the ipod to charge/sync. itunes didn't come up.
realized I had to reboot after the update. did that.
itunes came up and updated my saved music library on the pc. (89 gig, btw) This took several hours.
plugged ipod back in. iTunes didn't see it. This was on a hub. tried it on a port on the motherboard. iTunes saw it & started to sync. Great! Then after about 3 minutes of syncing I got an error saying that "this device cannot be synced, the folder could not be found."
WHAT FOLDER IS IT TALKING ABOUT?!?!
Since then, I cannot get iTunes to see my iPod, The iPod registers that the device is connected and charges but windows says the device has failed to install & device manager tells me "Unknown device" (yes I did have it configured for disk use.) and iTunes will not bring up the device to sync.
    I've tried resetting & reconnecting.
I'm leery of re-installing because I do not want to have to re-load & re-register 89 gig of music in my iTunes library.
Since when has a USB 2.0 port become required for functioning?

Well you tried 'everything', that I thought of, I would think that Antivirus is the main culprit or that install a Windows Plugin that emulates Mac OS X.
Anyway here is a helpful link from CHG, http://cahwyguy.livejournal.com/1220479.html

  • IPod not being recognised by iTunes after Restore

    Hi all
I just changed from a PC to a Mac. My iPod was obviously formatted to Windows previously and it wouldn't sync with iTunes on my Mac unless I reformatted it to Macintosh. No worries. Formatted fine, no errors. When I plug my iPod back in to put my music back on it, it appears to only be registering it in hard drive mode. iTunes boots up when I plug it in but iTunes can't find the iPod and the icon on my desktop has changed from the iPod to a Removable Drive icon.
Does anyone know of any fixes to this? Your help would be really appreciated. Thanks!
    Nicola

It is sad that it appears Apple are not watching this particular forum (thought I did receive excellent help on another one).
Problem solution was simply to reinstall iTunes with the latest version from the Apple website.

What have you tried so far in terms of troubleshooting this issue?  Are you plugging the iPod into a high powered USB 2.0 port on the back of your PC? Have you tried a different USB cable?

Ipod doesn't show all the songs listed in Itunes even after sync is complete

  • HT1363 My old iPod Nano says to use iTunes to restore and I've followed all suggested help steps, but I can't get it into disk mode nor can I get it to show in my computer or in iTunes.

My old iPod Nano says to use iTunes to restore and I've followed all suggested help steps, but I can't get it into disk mode nor can I get it to show in my computer or in iTunes.  I have the latest version of iTunes.  Windows has all the most recent updates too.  I can reset the iPod, but the message to Use iTunes to restore comes back and I am stuck.

Already tried another USB port, still nothing.
I don't have another PC to check, I only have one which is the one not working with my iPod.
It appears under my Computer, just not under iTunes. Plus, the iPod classic troubleshooting assistant doesn't work because I can't restore since it can't come up onto my iTunes! Even my iPod says "Use iTunes to Restore" once in a while, but I plug it in & I'm not able to restore it since it won't come up under iTunes.
    Please help

  • IPod Doesn't Show Up in iTunes or My Computer, But Says It's Connected

I'm running Windows Vista (something I highly regret ever getting), and I was given a new iPod by a friend, and since it was a different iPod than I used before, Vista kept popping a window up when I connected it asking if I wanted to download a driver. It had three options, I think, to browse for the driver, look later, or never ask again. Normally I would click the first two, and the iPod would show up in iTunes still (and the iPod doesn't even need a driver). The last time, I accidentally clicked for it to not ask again, and now the iPod doesn't show up in either My Computer or iTunes.
I really, REALLY hate this computer. Vista has caused nothing but problems, I tell ya. It's always one thing after another.

Well start with these articles and see if that gets you anywhere...

You cannot update it if you can't get the latest version of iTunes. Actually, the latest version of iTunes will run in XP if you have Service Pack 2. Also, you posted in the iPad forum, and your profile shows you have an iPad, but in your post, you say it is an iPod. Is it an iPad or an iPod?
