IPod Doesn't Show Up in iTunes or My Computer, But Says It's Connected

I'm running Windows Vista (something I highly regret ever getting), and I was given a new iPod by a friend, and since it was a different iPod than I used before, Vista kept popping a window up when I connected it asking if I wanted to download a driver. It had three options, I think, to browse for the driver, look later, or never ask again. Normally I would click the first two, and the iPod would show up in iTunes still (and the iPod doesn't even need a driver). The last time, I accidentally clicked for it to not ask again, and now the iPod doesn't show up in either My Computer or iTunes.
I really, REALLY hate this computer. Vista has caused nothing but problems, I tell ya. It's always one thing after another.

My Ipod Touch is not recognised in itunes or my computer but still charges when connected via USB Please help

Did plugging it into another USB port do any good? Make sure it is a USB port on the back of your PC and not via a USB hub or one on the front as they sometimes do not output enough power for the iPod to properly communicate with your PC.
Do you have another 30 pin dock connector cable around you use to try and rule out a faulty cable?
Did you try a hard reset of the device with it still connected to your PC?  To do this, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.
With the article above were you able to verify that the Apple Mobile Device Service was installing and running on your system?
Lastly, try plugging it into a different PC to see if it is recognized there.  It can help narrow down whether it is an issue with the iPod or with your PC.

    Hey there,
A file or some files may have become corrupt somehow during connecting or disconnecting the unit. Try putting it into Disk Mode and see if that helps. To put it into Disk Mode, hold the Menu and Select buttons until the Apple logo appears. When it does, immediately press and hold the Center an Play/Pause buttons until you see a confirmation that your iPod has been put into Disk Mode.
If you are able to do this, it may be a good idea to restore the iPod to its original settings. Keep in mind that by doing this you are erasing all the music and files from your iPod so make sure they are backed up on your computer somewhere. More on restoring your iPod can be found in the Apple document below.
    Hope this helps.

  • IPod doesn't show up in iTunes

I know that there are plenty of posts on this subject, but none of them are fixing my problem.
I'm running windows 8 and when you plug in the iPod, you get a 'Tap here to choose what happens to this device' box, and I hit it by accident once, and now my iPod won't show up in iTunes, so I can't add music or anything. I've tried going to Control Panel > Hardware > AutoPlay and resetting to default, but it doesn't seem to help. I've also tried restarting iTunes Mobile Service (something like that) but to no avail.
Really frustrated now :/ hope someone knows how to fix this.

    Have you tried:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
    - I would start with
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
    or
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
However, after your remove the Apple software components also remove the iCloud Control Panel via Windows Programs and Features app in the Window Control Panel. Then reinstall all the Apple software components
    - Then do the other actions of:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
paying special attention to item #5
    - New cable and different USB port
    - Run this and see if the results help with determine the cause

  • My ipod touch wont show up on itunes. and my computer doesnt recognize the ipod either. Help me

I plug my ipod touch in and it wont show up in itunes. My computer says it doesnt recognize it either. I have tried almost anything. Can any one help me?

  • TS1441 ipod doesn't show up in itunes or even in my disc utility..

So I have an Ipod classic 160gb and the "Use itunes to Resore" picture showed up on my screen.  When i plugged it into my laptop the device didn't show up in my itunes or even on my laptop.  The ipod's screen is frozen and reads "do not disconnect".  What should I do?  I've updated my itunes and software, tried using a new usb, restarted my laptop, nothing seems to work....

Ok, so its been a while since I posted anything on here. That's pretty much been because I've been too busy and didn't have time to do anything to sort out my problems with my ipod.
I did as suggested and ran full system scans for viruses, adware and spyware. There was nothing major wrong with my PC. I also tried to format my ipod through the disk management part of the device manager window, after taking a long time to recognise the ipod and try to format it (8 hours) it got to around 70% before failing. So I though I was doomed to bin the ipod.
However I tried again today, to connect to my PC and the ipod had run out of charge completely and displayed pretty much every unhappy icon possible: the sad ipod, the folder and exclamation, and the dead battery. So I plugged the ipod in for a few hours while I went out, and when I came back it was fully charged. From here I had no problem putting the ipod into disk mode and connecting to the PC. This time I could access the ipod as normal through the my computer window and simply told it to do a full format. This completed in less than half an hour, restored the ipod to factory setting and am currently waiting for itunes to put around 3,000 songs onto the ipod.
I have no explaination for why the problem has been solved save to say that running the battery down completely may have done the trick. Sorry this has been such a long post but I am very happy right now (saving £200 on a new ipod). I never even had to reinstall the itunes from my original CD version.
Lastly, a big thank you to all the people who offered their advice.

  • IPod does not show up in iTunes or My Computer when its plugged in

I've tried several iPods (all 5th gen 30gig) on my system. The first one I tried worked fine (but sadly wasn't mine!), but none of the others tried since have ever worked, even though they work on other systems.
The problem is that when I plug the iPod in neither iTunes nor My Computer sees the iPod. The PC knows it's there because the iPod shows up under "Other Devices" in Device Manager. (On a system where the iPod is working properly it shows up as a Disk Drive in Device Manager, by the way.)
I've tried all the fixes on the Apple support site, working my way through the relevant piece (61711) on the Apple knowledge base. I've also upgraded to iTunes 7 and read the new stuff on similar problems encountered by some people upgrading and tried the fix just posted on the front page of the Apple support site but it didn't work (I got this problem long before upgrading to v7, so I guess it wasn't aimed at my issue.)
    Any ideas?
Oh and I ran the iTunes diagnostics tool and it generated all this stuff below, which might be relevant - who knows?

  • IPod not showing up in iTunes or My Computer, but used to.

This is stumping me. I got a blue iPod nano for Christmas from my mom, and the first three times I plugged it in to sync it, it would immediately show up and sync. But, I tried to sync it this week and nothing happened. It didn't show up in iTunes, My Computer, or removable devices. I tried EVERYTHING. I restarted my computer, all 5 "R"s, charging my iPod, safely removing hardware, and NOTHING works. I have a bunch of new songs I want to put on it, but I can't get my computer to recognize it. HELP!

  • IPod doesn't show up in iTunes, windows recognises it, pls help......

Hi,i changed my OS from Win Xp Home To WinXp Professional. My computer started out afresh & i didn't take any backup(i installed on the same partition, i.e. removing the old home edition.). my ipod worked fine b4. i reinstalled the ipod setup & itunes. now when i connect my iPod, windows makes its familiar ting-tong noise on detecting it thru the usb, the ipod shows "Do no disconnect", it appears as a UsB mass storage device called ipod & iTunes also starts up, however it doesn't appear in iTunes. It also doesn't appear in the prefernces menu of itunes under the ipod tab, it says "no ipod connected'. As a result of this, i can't update my iPod with new music.
i have tried re-installing itunes & iPod which didn't help the matter.
Pls Help me out as i want to listen to new music.
    Pleaseeeeeeeee.

    Hey
My iPod (20GB with a click wheel) has been working fine for ages but randomly today, when I plugged it into my Mac, it said 'do not disconnect' on the iPod screen but nothing happened on iTunes. At first the iPod was in Finder, but iTunes didn't seem to find it, then when I retried it didn't even come up in Finder...any ideas?
    Thanks

  • My ipod no longer shows up on itunes or my computer after i recently installed an update on my ipod?

All it says on my ipod is it connected and disappears right away.

So you can't get your iPod to stay connected to your PC and iTunes is that correct?  Are you plugging the iPod into a high powered USB 2.0 port?  Have you double checked to make sure the connections on each of the cable are snug?  What happens if you try a different USB port or sync cable?
