Ipod doesn't show up in new itunes

I just upgraded to itunes 12.0.1.26 and now my ipod (4th gen touch, iOS 6.1.6) doesn't show up anymore. I've tried restarting and I've checked for Apple Mobile Device Support, which is as far as my troubleshooting knowledge goes. I'd be grateful for any suggestions.

In iTunes, there are the 5 and 4 tar ratings I gave to specific songs before I even put them on my iPod, but the 1 star songs aren't shown and when I remember a song title I gave 1 star and search for it, it doesn't show up. I wanted to update my Ipod today with several songs that I had purchased. I opened the Itunes folder. I plugged the Ipod in and nothing happened. I went into "My Computer" and nothing there (usually shows up in G). I went to the Help area here and decided to download the latest version of the Ipod software since mine was 11/04. I restarted the computer, reset my Ipod and again opened Itunes. Same thing. I even purchased a new cable (thought the original one may be bad). Before I decided to do that I tried plugging my digital camera with it's own cord and it worked fine. Then I plugged my son's MP3 with it's own cord and it worked fine. So, doesn't seem to be a cord problem. What do I need to do now? Oh, I do hear a sound from the computer when I plug the Ipod in(like a device connected sound) and in the LCD of the Ipod it says "Do Not Disconnect" It sounds like its trying to do something but nothing happens. I tried to update the IPOD and it said to connect my Ipod and when I did it just sat there with the same connect the Ipod message. In case this matters, we are using AVAST Virus Home Software (Got rid of Norton months ago when I couldn't upgrade to Itunes 6. Please help me...I have lost half a day... Thanks

i'm an ipod novice -- when i open up "itunes", sometimes "my ipod" shows up on the left column index, sometimes it doesn't. i'm trying to transfer music from my library to "my ipod" & can't do it if "my ipod" isn't visible in the listing. anyone got any advice?

IPOD Mini not showing up on new ITunes

I just got an IPOD Nano and have been syncing it and my old Ipod Mini to ITunes. While the Mini was plugged in, i was prompted to update its software. Once I did this, I was asked to plug it into the wall plug...Now my Mini will not show up on ITunes like it was before...anybody know what is going on??

I'm not sure this is a question really. But let me be more specific. I ripped a cd by a classical (baroque) composer named Gesualdo. I wrote "Gesualdo" in the artist (not the composer) tag field and "Gesualdo: Madrigals" in the album field. In itunes, when browsing my library, the name Gesualdo is in the artists list and so is the album name. After syncing my ipod (ipod video 1st gen, itunes 7.02, sync everything) I looked for Gesualdo in the artists but the name is nowhere to be found, although the album is there and can be found scrolling down to the letter G. I checked my spelling, I made sure no spaces or other invisible characters were typed by mistake but still the name Gesualdo was missing. This hasn't happened before, but then again I don't check and double check everything I transfer to ipod - maybe this is not the only case of missing info. I wonder if this could be a bug or something. Any ideas? Constantine

Is it possible that you Gesualdo Madrigals have been designated as Part of a compilation?
If so, "undesignating" them may be the solution.

I'm running Windows Vista (something I highly regret ever getting), and I was given a new iPod by a friend, and since it was a different iPod than I used before, Vista kept popping a window up when I connected it asking if I wanted to download a driver. It had three options, I think, to browse for the driver, look later, or never ask again. Normally I would click the first two, and the iPod would show up in iTunes still (and the iPod doesn't even need a driver). The last time, I accidentally clicked for it to not ask again, and now the iPod doesn't show up in either My Computer or iTunes.
I really, REALLY hate this computer. Vista has caused nothing but problems, I tell ya. It's always one thing after another.

Also you might try forcing the iPod into disk mode first, then connecting it to your computer and see if that makes it show up in iTunes...

You cannot update it if you can't get the latest version of iTunes. Actually, the latest version of iTunes will run in XP if you have Service Pack 2. Also, you posted in the iPad forum, and your profile shows you have an iPad, but in your post, you say it is an iPod. Is it an iPad or an iPod?

- Restart both your computer and iPod
- Try another usb cable
- Try another usb port in the computer

I really don't know what to put for a subject! Itunes and my ipod shuffle ran perfectly under Windows XP. I have a LOT of music successfully loaded (from itunes purchases and my own cds) on the 'pod. It plays fine. Problem is, computer bit the dust. I decided to upgrade to Vista instead of reloading XP (couldn't find the **** CDs to reinstall XP). Now, my ipod doesn't show up in itunes and I get that **** "ipod is synced with another library.. do you want to erase this ipod and sync with "this" itunes lib." box. "This" itunes library consists only of songs I've purchased from itunes.... none of the cd music is there. and the only option that itunes seems to be giving me is to blow away what's on my 'pod now and install the tiny library of itunes purchases. The wierd thing is, it's all on the same **** computer... just the OS changed (from XP to Vista).
What I WAMT to do is somehow get itunes to see my 'pod and copy the music that's on my pod back into itunes where it all came from in the first place and put my latest itunes purchases (since changing OS's) on my 'pod. Jeeze. sounds so simple. Unbelieveable.

In iTunes, go to the File Menu and select the 'Add to Library' option.
In the window that appears navigate to the folder that has all the music from the old version of iTunes (i.e. where the music is currently stored on your computer), and select the folder.
This should then add all the music back into your iTunes (it may make a copy)
You will now be able to connect your iPod and let it sync to the computer.

I'm going through the same thing, I've tried de-authorizing and re-authorizing my computer and that seems to help. I haven't gotten all my songs back yet, but I've got about 75% of it back.
