IPod doesn't turn on/off sometimes

Sometimes, like after I sleep I go to turn on my iPod on the way out the door and it won't start - pressing any button, holding play/pause, etc. Only way to get it to start is to reboot it while it's off (hold menu/select), then it reboots and takes about 15 seconds, and it starts fine.
This only happens sometimes.
On the same token, sometimes it refuses to shut off. I have the backlight set to like 5 seconds so it keeps battery life. So sometimes it just won't shut off. I hold the pause button and nothing happens, just backlight shuts off after 5 seconds, and then when I release it the backlight comes back on. It doesn't shut off.
Anybody know what the **** is going on?
I stopped using iTunes b/c the **** thing always crashed on my PC and use a plugin that makes it workable with winamp fine - but don't say that's the reason - it was doing it when I was using only iTunes.
Using the latest version of iTunes as well as the latest iPod software.
Anybody have any suggestions?
I rebooting it, obviously, please don't tell me to do that. It'll reset if I plug it in - but it still takes 15 seconds or so if it's jammed up and not starting.

As far as the issue with turning the iPod on, I don't know what would cause that. But the issue turning off-that happens to me all the time!
As a caveat I don't have any official info on what causes this problem. For all I know its a software glitch or a processing delay. However, in my experience I think it has something to do with the touch wheel registering movement at the same time as you are holding down the pause button. If you have big fingers, like I do, this is more of a problem. My kids have no problem turning my iPod off, but 7 times out of 10, it takes me several attempts. I've learned to try and be a bit more precise in my button mashing . I have gotten better at turning off the iPod just by trying to pinpoint the pause button and not move while I'm doing it.
Hope this helps!

See http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3281.  I had the same problem, but solved it by holding down the home button and the on/off button for 10 seconds.  If you are lucky, that will work for you as well!

Try # 2 and 3 in link below. If neither work, your screen digitizer might need to be replaced.

  • My iPod touch keeps turning itself off

My iPod touch keeps turning itself off. My iPod is fully updated and charged. When i try and turn it on the apple symbol comes on but a bit later turns itself off again (even when on a charger) what should i do?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Ipod won't turn on/off

I just got my Ipod for my birthday on May 30th, and it's already having problems. It's a refurbished second generation ipod nano.
When my ipod is off, I always put it on hold, and then I'll take it off hold when I want to listen to it, and the screen turns on. Twice last week, the battery sign showed that it was half-way charged when I turned it off, but when I went to turn it on to listen to it again the next day, it wouldn't turn on. Then yesterday, I charged it completely in the afternoon and when it was done, I listened to 2 or 3 songs and turned it off. This morning, when I went to turn it on, it wouldn't turn on, so I plugged it into the computer to charge and it said it was charged completely.
When my Ipod does turn on, sometimes it won't turn off. I press and hold the play button for about 10 seconds and nothing happens. It takes me about 3 or 4 tries most times for it to actually turn off.
So, I'm wondering if my Ipod is broken and I need to send it in for repairs (even though it's less than a month old) or if there's something I can do to fix it.

  • IPod doesn't turn on

    Hi,
I bough a camera connector and tried to transfer photo's from my camera to my 30GB Video-ipod - a message came onto the screen saying that the transfer was done. I coulnd't find these photo's on my iPod. I turned my iPod of and since then I wasn't able to turn it on again. It's been charging for about 2 hours and iTunes doesn't open automatically like it used to - I tried to reset and restore but nothing works.
When I try to restore it - the computer asks me to connect my iPod.
    Please help!

  • IPod doesn't turn on or do anything...

I have a 3rd Gen iPod Nano that hasn't been working for awhile and I'm trying one last ditch attempt before deciding to purchase a new product. It displays the following problems:
    - It doesn't turn on. It doesn't react to anything: connecting it to the computer (Mac or Windows), trying to Reset, moving the Hold switch, etc.
    - iTunes gives the following error message: "The iPod software update server could not be contacted. The server does not support this version of iTunes."
    - There is a "More Information" button on said error message, it takes me to this page: http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/updaterestore/?error=1478 This is a support page for iPhones and iPod Touch, a product which I don't have.
    - I have tried some of the solutions on this page: I have the latest version of iTunes, connecting it on a different computer (I can't recall what the computer said though), opening the ports to the Apple servers.
Is this iPod gone for good or has anyone ever encountered this issue?

Grawr!! Mines acting up the same way!! Who ever can help me I will bow before their feet. I miss my music, and I can't get a new I-pod because the warranty expired and I got it from a friend for my birthday.

  • My Ipod Nano keeps turning itself off halfway through a song, anyone know why this happens?

I have had my Nano since November and have downloaded cds and music of downloads.  When I play the ipod halfway through a song the ipod turns itself off. Do you think this is a fault with the Ipod or am I doing something wrong when downloading the music?

    Hey jokoboco,
At this point get your ipod service with apple. Have your Serial number ready. Sounds like your iPod has a hardware issue, a kind of defect. Use any of these options:

    or

  • IPhone screen doesn't turn itself off when on lockscreen

Ever since I updated to 3.1.3, if I leave my phone somewhere locked, and I get a notification it lights up the screen, as it used to, but then it never turns itself off again. Which means if I'm at work for example, get a text 5 minutes after I start then my phones screen is left on all day, leading to the battery being flat by the time I finish work.
I have auto-lock set to 1 minute so that is no the issue.
If anyone has any idea on what could be causing this and how to fix it I'd appreciate it!
    Thanks

Then the next step would be a restore, with or without your backup. See p. 204... http://manuals.info.apple.com/enUS/iPhone_UserGuide.pdf
You might also play around with your auto-lock settings... on/off, different times, etc.

  • Ipod doesn't turn off and volume doesn't work

My Ipod touch is 2 months old--all of sudden it wont' turn off and the volume doesn't respond.
I have charged it, synched it and done a restore--nothing fixes.
It sometimes will allow me to turn the volume off (once a day) but then most of the time doesn't respond
I can't click "home" and "off" at the same time b/c all that does is turn the voice recognition on.
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
Try placing your iPod in Recovery Mode and restoring it to factory settings/defaults via iTunes:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808.  Otherwise, make a reservation at the Genius Bar of your local Apple Store.
    Hope this helps!

  • IPod doesn't turn on, doesn't respond, its screen flashes every ten seconds

Hello. Yesterday, my iPod's battery was discharged. I charged it for about 10 minutes. After that, I listened to some music until the battery discharged again. I didn't connect the iPod again to my PC. Several hours later, I noticed something strange: the screen was, every ten seconds, giving a fast flash of light that only lasted like half a second. I tried every button (I checked that the iPod wasn't in Hold mode) but it didn't do anything and the flash of light continued. Then, I connected the iPod many times to the PC, each time in a different USB slot. Nothing happened. No message of recognition from the PC or from the iPod. It's like I didn't connect it. I tried in another PC, but the result was the same. I tried to reset it, but it didn't do anything. It simply doesn't work. Can you help me? Why does the screen of the iPod turns on and off for so little time every ten seconds without me doing anything for that to happen? Why doesn't the iPod work? Thanks

I'm having this exact same problem, except that occasionally I'll get "please wait, very low battery."
Otherwise, the Apple logo comes up and the screen brightens up, and at the same time I can HEAR the drive inside whirring up, but then it just quits... Only to try again!

  • HT4623 Tried updating my daughters iPod touch, it turned itself off and when turned on just says iTunes with a picture of a white lead. It won't let me do anything else and I don't have a computer to link it to. How do I get it back to normal?

Tried updating my daughters iPod touch and it just turned off. It now has a picture of a white lead and says iTunes. I don't have a computer to connect it to and just want it back to normal as it will not do anything. Can anyone help me?

    You need to
Connect the iPod to a computer with iTunes and an internet connection and restore via iTunes
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software
    To restore from backup see:
    iOS: How to back up
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

  • Ipod touch, i turn it off, it turns on

My pod will simply not turn off. I hit the top button, slide it to off, it shuts down, then about 2 seconds later the apple logo is back and its starting back up. Can anyone help? this can't be good for the battery.

If not succesful try the remaining items of:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
