IPod doesn't work with skype?

Kay, so, I have an iPod 2nd generation and deleted my skype app from it. I tried reinstalling and it didn't allow me, saying I need iOS 4.3. I updated my ipod to iOS 4.2 and it says it's up to date, but it's not. Is there something I can do to get skype back?
I'm aware that 2nd generation doesn't install further than iOS 4.2 and I've been trying to just recover the old app.. but no luck. I need help Please.

Restore from a backup at which point Skype was on the iPod. Apps are not part of the backup, but all of your apps should still be restored from iTunes.

  • My iPod doesn't work with iTunes 10. Help please!

    Greetings to all!
Help please! I updated to iTunes10, and now my ipod nano 4th generation doesn't work with it. Actually the "Devices" menu doesn't show up, although the operating system recognizes it. What should i do? I refuse to buy another one. Should i install an older version of itunes? If i do so, may i loose my musics and stuff that i have in library?
    Thanks a lot in advance.
    Laters,

You should always have backup of your iTunes folder.
Downgrading to iTunes 9 will not cause you to lose your music etc.
Have you checked via Software Update in the System Preferences for any updates.
Have you tried the 5 R's for the iPod?

  • My iphone 4 microphone won't record sound on video clips and doesn't work with Skype

This is the first time I have used the forum. My iphone4 microphone won't record sound on video clips, and won't work with Skype.

I have checked that I have the latest software. I have restarted phone. I am not sure how to perform the other things you mentioned , restore and reset as new... Would I lose any data by doing these? Thanks for the reply.

  • Old iPod doesn't work with the newest iPod download

I have a 20 GB iPod, model # MP102. I decided to restore it because it was not syncing well with iTunes. When I did that, I also updated my iPod software . Now it won't work at all. Sometimes I get the error 1429 message, but mostly, iTunes just tells me that the iPod is corrupted and should be restored, which I've done 8 times now. I'm thinking that my iPod is so old that the newer iPod software messed it up. Is that right? Does anyone have any ideas about what might be the problem. It worked fine yesterday.
P.S. I even put the iPod into disk mode and tried to restore it that way, and that didn't work either.

Thanks, I've actually done that several times now--holding down menu and select. It hasn't worked. I also took it to my local Apple store and learned that all they'll do is replace the battery, which doesn't help since it works fine. They don't work on iPods in my area. I suppose I'll have to mail it in.

  • My iPod doesn't work with car audio (Alpine CDA 101E)

From the manual, my Alpine head unit supports iPod nano 3rd Gen (*version 1.1*).
My iPod is nano 3rd Gen but *ver 1.1.3 PC*
Please give me some suggestion to solve this problem.
Alpine CDA 101E is the product of 2008 or 2009. This iPod is 2007 product.
I think it should work together, right?
I've try another iPod with very old Generation to my Alpine, it worked!
    Thank you in advance

I had the same problem when trying to dock with a Volkswagen Jetta wagon and its factory iPod dock cable.
Same problem trying both Kenwood and Pioneer dock cables in an auto-sound store.
Why would Apple mess with the multipin connector? What's the solution?

  • Sync Outlook Calendar with iPod doesn't work with iTunes 7?

Ever since I've upgraded to iTunes 7, when I try to sync my Outlook Calendar with my iPod - either Outlook crashes or it says it's doing it, but the calendar on my iPod is now blank even when I have things scheduled on my calendar.
Is there any fix or work around for this? Is anyone aware of this problem?

This is meant with a bit of humor in the first part of my response to illustrate why polls asking for people not having a problem can be inaccurate here. Then I will get into some suggestions that are more techical in nature.
If you walk to the waiting room at your local hospital's emergency room, and ask is there anybody here who is waiting to see the Doctors who is not sick or injured, please speak up. If everything was working, would you be here to post?
If you turn off Outlook Syncing, and turn it back on, do you get the Windows security screen? It might pop up under the iTunes 7 window. There is a screenshot of the window I am referring to here:

  • HT1451 My 2004 iPod doesn't work with my new Windows 8 computer. If I get a new iPod nano, will I be able to sync my content from my old iPod?

If I replace my 2005-era iPod with a new nano, will I be able to sync my existing content? Currently my Windows 8 will not allow me to access my music, etc., although I can see it. Took forever to event get iTunes to recognize my device--lots of removing of Apple software, downloading again, etc.

You can sync from your computer to your ipod.

  • HT4108 iPod doesn't work with av adapter

I have an iPod Touch 4G, os 5.1.1. I am trying to play a video from my iPod on a tv via an apple AV cable but for some reason it does not work. I've tried to connect my iPad and and the iPad works without a problem. So how can I fix my iPod?

Are you using the Video app?
    What cable?
You can try the standard fixes since there are no settings to change.
    - Reset, Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restoe to factory defaults/new iPod

  • M305-S4910 microphone doesn't work with Skype

I have a Satellite M305-S4910 which I bought in April mostly so we could Skype my daughter who is going away to college in Sept. It had Skype factory installed, had Skype stickers, a built-in camera and microphone and 64 bit Vista. However, the built-in microphone is unusable making awful scratchy sounds in Skype. I returned the machine and got another one -- same problem. Since then I have seen other users report the same problem. I have been trying to get this fixed now for months with no results.
It may just need an updated driver. My Conexant audio driver is 4.36.7.0, and there is an update 4.36.10.0 available (since December 2008). But ... it is only available for 32 bit Vista so can't be installed on my machine. I have called Toshiba literally a dozen times and haven't been able to get anyone who could do anything about getting a new version of the driver, or investigating the problem.
Is anyone else having this problem now? Does anyone know how to get Toshiba's attention? Is there some other way to get this problem fixed?
    Thanks, Sherm

That user's problem is different since it affects all microphones -- the one we're discussing here affects only the built-in mic. I believe I have fiddled with all the settings provided for the Conexant mic; none had any discernable effect.
lmastro, if you are getting frustrated you might want to write to the General Manager of Toshiba's laptop-making Digital Products Division. I did that and finally got a response from an intelligent engineer, although no solution yet. The general manager's address is below. You can find his name here: http://laptops.toshiba.com/pressrelease/433653 (I'd post it but when I do the Toshiba moderator edits it out for some mysterious reason). I recommend that you tell him about your attempts to get the problem resolved through normal channels. My experience has been a 5 months-long nightmare so far.

  • IPod Stuff doesn't work with my new iPhone

I finally sprung for the iPhone three weeks ago and I love it. But I think I'm going to have to buy more new stuff. Neither set of my portable speakers that I use with my iPod (5th gen. video) work with the iPhone. When I put the iPhone in the dock, I get some message about Airplane Mode. Music does play through the speakers, but they won't charge the iPhone. When I put the iPhone on its own charger and tried to use the auxiliary input on the speakers, there was only silence.
Do I need a special cable or something?
Also, my car charger for the iPod doesn't work with the iPhone.
Am I going to have to spring for another set of portable speakers? I've read that the Pure-Fi is compatible with iPhone.
    Thanks!

Both my mini and my video iPod were USB -- not Firewire.
Both your Mini and your iPod with video synced via USB and charged via USB when connected to your Mac, but they also support charging via Firewire and most of the older 3rd party devices charged iPods via Firewire - your iPods include firewire pins in the connector for charging via firewire.
The first generation iPhone also syncs and charges via USB when connected to a computer, and the first generation iPhone also includes firewire pins for charging via firewire also, as your iPods include. The first generation iPhone does not support syncing via Firewire, but it does support charging via Firewire.
Apple removed the firepins from the iPhone 3G connector as they have done with all new iPods released after a certain date and for all new iPods to be released in the future. 3rd party device manufacturers were made aware of this so all new 3rd party devices must support charging via USB only or include charging via USB in addition to charging via Firewire if a new device is to be backwards compatible with older iPods.

  • Built-in iSight will not work with Skype

I have a new Macbook Pro that I purchased about a month ago, running OS
    X 10.5.8.
I've been using Skype to video chat, and at first everything was working
very well. In the middle of a chat, however, the video stopped working
    altogether.
If I go to the video tab in Skype preferences, the camera will then turn
on and I can see myself, but once I go back to the call, the camera
won't turn on (the green light on my camera stays off too). In video
preferences I have the following options checked: Enable Skype Video,
Automatically receive video from: People in my Contact list, and Show
that I have video to: People in my contact list. I have also tried to
enable the "Start my video automatically" option but to no avail. The
video camera it is set to use is the Built-in iSight.
I have tried reinstalling skype, including deleting all the preference
files on the computer, but that did not help.
The video works fine in other applications such as Photobooth, iMovie and Google Chat. I have browsed through the many Skype forum posts about similar issues, as well as Apple forums and have tried every fix that people have suggested including resetting my SMC, updating all my applications, trying Skype under different user accounts, reinstalling Quicktime, reinstalling Skype (as outlined in the Uninstall guide for mac), repairing permissions, etc.
I am pretty sure that this problem began directly after I switched to
SCREEN SHARING during a video chat. When I switched back to Video, it
    did not work.
No other applications that use my camera are running.
I am assuming that since it originally worked with Skype, and since I had not touched ANY of the options in Skype and have done nothing other than try screen sharing, and since I did a complete Skype reinstall includeing preferences, that the problem should NOT be with the Skype program itself, but rather something that was modified in the operating system configuration during screen sharing.
The only other thing I can think of trying is to reinstall iSight, although I haven't been able to figure out how to do that, or to reinstall my entire operating system, which I don't see as an acceptable solution.
I am using Skype Version 2.8.0.659
Any help getting this fixed would be greatly appreciated.
I have posted a similar topic in the Skype forums along with a screen shot of my Skype preferences window: http://forum.skype.com/index.php?showtopic=422861
From my online reading in both the Apple and Skype forums, it seems as though this is a relatively common problem. If I can find a solution from either Skype or Apple, I will post the solution in both of the forums.
Update: I just upgraded my OS to 10.6.1 and my camera started working again. Then, I was in a chat and I lost my internet connection. As soon as I got back online I restarted the conversation and the camera doesn't work again. This is getting to be ridiculous.
    Thank you for your time,

    Hi,
It is years since I tried Skype. (Probably in Tiger)
I use Little Snitch, a utility that can report the ports and IPS any App is trying to contact.
For Video chats it seems the Skype process spreads the load across many "Servers" wanting to connect to about 3 doz (I got fed up with clicking the accept Button)
For this reason I do not think it is very secure.
I only today read a post that said Skype had Screen Sharing.
iChat 5 makes it clear (well if you run /Applications/iChat.app/Contents/MacOS/iChat -errorLogLevel 7 In Terminal) that there is a "camera" setting for the Desktop which may be a forthcoming thing or is about produce the Screen Sharing pic. (i.e iChat lists two "cameras" in the log produced by the above Terminal command).
iChat 4 and 5 use the Apple Remote Desktop engine to do Screen Share as does the Screen Sharing App invoked from the Finders Go Menu > Go to Server and using VNC:// as the Link type.
I would have no idea what protocol Skype are using.
They created their own Video protocols and similar with SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) for Connecting to POTS (Plain Old Telephone Systems) Phones in disregard for Internationally agreed Standards.
I doubt that it makes use of the ARD engine. It will probably be a reinvention of the wheel again.
I took a look around the Skype web site but could not find any mention of how they are doing Screen Sharing.
I would guess it is similar to the iUSBCam method of Desktop as Video Feed.
Do the Console or System Log in Console (Applications/Utilities) have any messages about this ?
