Ipod doesnt show up at all

all of the sudden my ipod wont even come up on the computer or say its plugged in to a computer.

This just started happing to my iPod Touch 16gb. 2 days ago I downloaded and "upgraded" my i-touch to the new firmware (1.3.1 I think is the latest). It worked but I noticed my iTouch doing some quarky things...like Video not playing quite right and my Wi-Fi dropping in and out which I never noticed it doing before in my house.
Today I got a message from iTunes that there was a new version of iTunes out and would I like to download and install the latest version? Sure...why not? This is where the problems really started... the install went OK but when the computer rebooted and I plugged in my iTouch it would not show up at all on iTunes... Windows sees it...but iTunes will not. 2 reboots of the computer wouldn't fix it... Now I'm stuck because I can't get into iTunes to restore the iTouch to it's original firmware...
Any Suggestions?

If a restore of the iPod in iTunes does not resolve the issue, it's likely that your iPod's screen will need to be replaced.

One possible reason is that you've inadvertently imported the cd as a 'compilation'.
To check, highlight the songs in iTunes, right click and select 'get info' and make sure you have "no" selected in the box marked 'part of a compilation'.
You will have to reconnect your iPod to iTunes again to reflect the changes you have made.

I think that's because the USB cable or the USB port on your computer doesn't work.

I can't find the option for "devices" on the left sidebar in itunes, where my ipod should show up? It has disappeared. How can I get it back?

If you click on View in the top menu, and then click on Show Sidebar, then you will see the Devices listed (when your device is connected) under the Library and Store.
The reason it disappeared is because that little "iPod" indicator that shows on the top also has the "Eject" button right next to the iPod name, and it is really easy to click on that instead of the button itself....

4s doesnt load all my music, shows songs that used to sync (before match) as stream. Song doesnt show up at all on phone.

I tried Match, it turned into abject failure. Turned match off on phone, but songs still show up as downloadable (with clouds) and some songs dont show up at all.
They have grey circles next to them in itunes after trying to sync and show up in the list of items on my phone as "Stream" and will not load on to phone, nor do they show up on the phone at all.
Playlist according to itunes is 920 songs but only 712 get transfered.
Songs play fine on MacBook. warning shows on phone that X songs could not be transfered, check itunes for details. no details in itunes.
subsequent sync's do not transfer and just say X songs could no tbe transfered, missing songs still show as stream when checking the iphone in itunes.

Is there really nobody else with this problem? Really?

I have a fifth gen ipod, worked fine for a little over a year. Now, it will still play music, but i cant synch it with itunes. it does not show up on my computer or in itunes, but when i plug it in, my computer beeps, signifying that something has been plugged in. i plugged in my sisters mini and it worked just like it should. i have tried all the tips on apples website, but to no avail.
Itunes did recognize the ipod once and said it was corrupt and i should restore it. I tried to do so but got an error message, something about files not available.

I've been searching for an answer on these discussion boards for hours and have not yet found any situation that was quite like mine and I'm getting a bit frazzled and worried.
I have a 120GB iPod classic, which I've used for two years with an ACER laptop and it works perfectly. Two months ago, I switched to a Macbook Pro and synced my iPod with it; again everything worked fine. My iPod was synced with the Mac and all the new music had been transferred.
Today, I've been trying to connect my iPod to my Mac but nothing happens. It only charges (and I can't even be sure that it IS charging because the charging green sign does not show up on the iPod). It does not show up in Finder, or in the iTunes source list; it does not sync. I've reset it a billion times, restarted my mac, switched USB cords and USB ports, even downloaded and installed every software update imaginable but nothing is working.
If I leave the iPod connected to the Mac for a while, something even more alarming happens. It connects for around 3 seconds, and then ejects itself repeatedly. It's like watching someone go insane.
Naturally, I freaked out and tried to connect the iPod to a PC and it is working perfectly on the PC. Please, someone help. I have no idea what's going on.

Did you download and install the latest version of ITunes over the existing installation?

Ipod doesnt show TV shows even though Itunes says they are there

After updating to the new iTunes, some of my TV shows (which i had set as movies before) dont appear on my iPod. After I change the file type (after clicking get info) to TV show, they dont appear on my 30GIG Video Ipod. They work fine when set as movies. On itunes when I look at what on my iPod they are there but I cant acces them becasue only Movies and Music Videos appears on my iPod.

It's a problem with the new iPod software update. There has been much discussion about it on this forum and on ilounge. I was given this explanation from another poster:
"The reason this happens is because the iTunes category for "TV Shows" doesn't modify the meta-data of the video, rather, it just tells iTunes to display that video as a "TV Show", and does nothing to the videos on the iPod. To modify meta-data, I've found that AtomicParsley (for Terminal users) and Lostify (for GUI users) work alright."
Rather than use another application to correct the problem, I just restored the iPod to the earlier version. Now, everything works correctly. Hopefully, the next software update for the iPod will work. Incidentally, I kept the iTunes update.

IPod wont show up at all.

The iPod seems to charge (sometimes), but wont show up on the computer. The iPod wont even show the "don't disconnect" icon on the screen. I've tried different computers (Mac and Win) and have reset the iPod, but to no avail. The only other thing I can think it could be is the port going bad, but I'm just wondering if anyone knows of anything else?

Also you might try forcing the iPod into disk mode first, then connecting it to your computer and see if that makes it show up in iTunes...

First, try forcing your iPod into disk mode, following the instructions from this article.
Then, connect it to your computer. Any success with being properly recognized by iTunes?

i recently bought a 5th generation 80gb ipod, when i try to put songs on it, it says its syncing but once it finishes and i disconnect it the memory is being used but there is no songs or any data on the ipod. please help me

Your iPad has to be running the same or higher version of iOS as you phone was in order for the backup to appear. If it isn't, you'll have to update your iPad first. There are some limitations involved in restoring an iPad to an iPhone backup to be aware of, including:
Camera Roll photos and videos are not restored. These can only be restored to another iPhone.
Third-party apps and their data will be restored but the app icon order/organization won't be.
iPhone-only apps will not be restored to an iPad.
