IPod dosen't seem to charge

My iPod Video 60GB dosen't seem to charge anymore, no water damage and I haven't dropped it. Hooking it up to my PC or to the wall charger does really nothing all I get is a message saying please wait very low battery, I let it charge for hours and thats all I get I can no longer use my iPod with or without power from the wall socket or off of the battery. What can possibly be wrong with it? it's one of the first video iPods released so I'm thinking it's a dead battery so i'll just replace the battery but I want to know for sure what's wrong with it before I go spending money on it.
Note - It has the latest firmware and was just restored, just dosen't charge and/or work.

So I took my iPod apart and disconnected the battery for about an hour, hooked it up to my pc and somehow it synced, so I downgraded the firmware to the tried and true iPod firmware 1.1.2, it's charging again so it seems and I am currently in the process of transfering my 25GB of music sofar so good. Will keep this topic updated on my progress.

I've run diagnostics. Can't find device. I've tried resetting. The toggle has been turned on and off.

Cable works fine on my other iPod. Reset by pressing menu and center button together for 6-10 seconds. Left it to charge for many hours. Started acting up while running. Suddenly the music stopped playing but my Nike + was still working for the rest of my run. Took it straight it home and plugged it in to the wall to recharge since the battery was fairly low. Looked like it recharged ok but then screen went blank and now does it not show up on iTunes, does not seem to recharge by the wall charger (apple wall charger plugged into a surge protector in India). I have turned the hold switch off and on many times.
Sounds like a repair issue, which is not easy to do in India :(

  • IPod Touch won't turn on, but seems to charge.

I have an 8GB iPod Touch 2nd Generation, iOS 4.1
My iPod Touch died a few months ago, whenever it died, I tried everything to get it to turn back on, but nothing worked.
I held the power button and the home button for 10 seconds, even two minutes I held them down, and it wouldn't power on, I called Apple and they couldn't help me.
I tried putting it in DFU mode by holding the home button for 8 seconds then plugging in the computer but nothing happens, my computer nor iTunes notices my device.
I tried numoerus computers, game consoles and wall outlets to get it too charge, the only tip I saw but didn't try was unplugging everything but the mouse and keyboard and see if it charges, But I knew it wouldn't work since I tried laptops with nothing in them and my gaming consoles which includes PS3 360  and Wii.
I found the iPod Touch after leaving it in my dresser for months then tried fiddling with it again.
Strangely enough I used my sister's iPod Classic charger the one with a red light on it(Or is that third party?), and it seemed to charge, no icon was shown, but the iPod responded by warming up a bit, something a dead iPod wouldn't do,
Any helps or tips is appreciated, but don't be afraid to tell me if the device won't come back too life, I'll just recycle it and get another whenever I can.

Thx alot for this thread, plus the solution. i was frekin out. i didn't do anything to the ipod for it to do what it it. have you or can any one tell me why it did this, or what could be the reasons for this to happen. i think that knowing that would also be very usefull. thx in adv.

  • Charging with iPod cord.  Seems to be charging even when it says not charging in the upper right corner.  Is this what happens when I don't use it's charger?  And is that ok?

Charging iPad 2 with IPod cord.  Seems to be charging even when it say not charging in the upper right corner.  Is it because I'm not using the cord it came with, and is it ok to use an iPod cord.

The dock connector to USB cables are interchangeable on the iPod and iPad. That's not a problem. You must be trying to charge using a USB port on your Computer. If the port supplies enough power, the iPd will charge albeit very very slowly  - as long as the Computer is turned on and it is awake.
You should really use the power adapter that comes with the iPad and it will charge much faster. Using the iPod cord is fine - switch to the supplied power adapter for the best results.

  • My iPod Touch will no longer charge from a wall socket, only my computer. HELP!

My 4th generation iPod Touch will no longer charge from a wall socket, only my computer. I tried buying a new cable and USB charging socket (and I bought one made by Apple), but that did not fix the problem. I restored it from iTunes, hoping that would work as well, but that failed. I am at my wit's end. Can anybody here help me? I've bought new equipment, tried rebooting, restoring, etc. but nothing so far has proven successful. If anyone's got a solution, please help!
    Thanks!

All I can suggest is the standared fixes. It seems very strange
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem. Bring the cable and Apple wall charger too.

  • My ipod doesn't Sync or Charge, but does recognize USB cable

    Hi There
I have a 4th gen 60gb ipod that has worked fine for about 2 years. As of yesterday it doesn't charge when plugged into a charger or USB port (2 different ports with 2 different cables) but the wierd thing is that it does sem to acknowledge the cable being connected/removed as the backlight comes on and it doesn't drain the battery whilst the cable is connected. Also it seems to charge a bit if I boot into the diagnostics menu.
Resetting has made no difference and it still responds normally otherwise.
Is it fried? What settings in the diagnostics menu should I be looking at? Is there anything else I can try? All help appreciated!
    Thanks

  • My Ipod Touch 4 is not charging.

Today I needed to charge my IPod Touch 4th generation. I went to go plug it in with the same USB cable and the same outlet adapter i always use in the same power outlet I always use, and never have had a problem with. However when I plugged the Ipod in, it did not charge. The Lock screen had the same background as it does when your Ipod is successfully charging (black screen with glowing battery in the middle) however my Ipod was not charging, the battery did not seem to be getting any fuller. Also, on the top right side of the screen where the little battery symbol is, it did not have the usual "charging" symbol that it usually does when your Ipod is charging (a lighting bolt through the battery) but rather the symbol that is shown when your Ipod is fully charged (two outlet prongs on the battery.) However, I knew that it was not fully charged, because I kept getting "low battery" notifications just a minute before, and the battery on the lock screen was not fully charged, nowhere near. So I tried with a different outlet adapter, and same result. I tried turning my Ipod on and off, and resetting it (holding down the start and home button), and all the same results. Finally, I tried charging my sisters Ipod with the same USB cable and adapter and outlet, and hers charged with no problem. Both our Ipods are Generation 4s, mine is version 6.1.3, and hers is 6.1.6. I am frustrated and confused as to why this is happening. If someone could help me that would be much appreciated. Thank you for your time and support!

  • My Ipod Classic 160 GB will charge but is not recognized on my macbook or in itunes. Just began suddenly

I purchased my Ipod Classic 160 GB about a year ago new and never had any issues until lately. I recently updated my itunes to the newest version and my Ipod seemed fine and didn't have any trouble. About a week later my Ipod was no longer recognized by Itunes or my Mac book. The catch is, that my Ipod is still able to charge but never shows any signs of connection besides the charging screen. I have no clue where to begin.
Any help would be awesome! Thanks

Have you updated your iPod and iTunes sofware?
most cases, iTunes can play these high quality songs, which is meant for newer mobile devices like  iPhones, iPod Touch, nano and iPad, which the older iPod cant play, but only playable with iPod classic sofware version 2.0.4
most likely it is an incompatible song format, read this Apple support article.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1334?viewlocale=en_USet
If  your iPod software is version 1.1.2, then you have to use lower quality format.
Can you select the problematic song, and Advance -> create iPod version

  • Ipod touch 5th generation not charging anymore

I got my Ipod for Christmas in 2012 and it was kept in perfect condition until one little drop that shattered the screen about 10 months ago. The drop never affected the performance of the Ipod in anyway. It worked fine until yesterday when I thought my charger started getting faulty. My friend plugged his phone in and it charged  perfectly fine and that left me to think that it is either the battery that is old/ breaking or the charging port is messed up. I've cleaned it out and plugged it in but nothing is happening. I plug in the charger and no charging notification shows up.

  • My iPod is working but the charger won't go all the way in the charger slot to recharge it,someone please tell me want the problem can be. How can I fix this. Thank you

MMy iPod is workin, but my charger no longer fixes all the way in the  slot to recharge it. Want should I do. Thank you

Hey Lynette1234, As UbuntuXP stated check and clean the port of foreign debris. Lint packed in the bottom of the charging port is most often the problem, This seems to be more of an issue with the lighting ports used on the iPod 5. The following will help you clear / clean the lighting port on an iPod 5. Try using a strong light and a magnifying glass to look into the port, using a soft brush to carefully remove any debris, if you must a non-conductive probe may be needed, I find a round wooden toothpick work well. Avoid touching or bending the gold contact pins on the long side of the port. Damage them and you will have a costly repair. Also, make sure the silver lock springs (looks like silver bump on each end) on the short sides of the port are free to move, if not clear the debris. If the older 30 pin type, same thing avoid touching, bending the contacts, and remove all foreign debris. Many report a soft toothbrush works well or a toothpick. Avoid using solvents if the contact pins appear corroded, generally plugging / plugging the charger end , about 12 times will clean dirty contacts. If you must, a cotton swab cut to fit the port with a drop of 91% isopropyl alcohol on it, (you want the swab damp, NOT wet or dripping), will remove most any corrosion. simply run the swab in and out as if you were plugging it in until the swab comes out clean. May need to use more than one swab. But check for lint / foreign debris first. Good luck. Cheers.

  • IPod Touch (2nd Gen) not charging properly and apps won't update

Hi, I'm not really sure if or how these problems can be linked, but I thought I'd put them together just in case...
My first problem is that my apps aren't updating properly.  When I try to apply the updates, I get the "waiting" come up but then it just resets having done nothing, sometimes needing me to switch my iPod right off and on again before I can use the app again.  I tried connecting my iPod up to my computer to apply the updates through iTunes and it seemed to work, but none of them actually updated.
Having connected to iTunes and tried to sync everything, I also got an error message saying that the apps couldn't be synched due to not being able to determine what apps were on my iPod.  However, they were all sitting there looking like they had synched.
The second part of the problem is that my iPod doesn't seem to be charging properly anymore.  The battery doesn't seem to be lasting as long as it should and I've noticed that sometimes when I'm charging it, I get the symbol come up that means it's running from the mains, when it should actually still be the symbol to show it's currenty charging, so I'm wondering if the problem is that it's not charging properly some of the time rather than the charge isn't lasting long enough.
If anyone's got any ideas how to resolve any of this I'd really appreciate it
    Thank you

  • IPod 4th Gen will not charge or power up

My poor little pink gen 4 iPod shuffle has gone kaput on me this morning.  I was given a low battery warning yesterday morning but forgot to charge it up.  I have gone to charge it today and and nothing is happening.  The iPod gets warm but the power charging light is not lit.  The shuffle will not power on at all.  It has been my running companion for a couple of years now and has covered several hundred miles with me whilst I pound the pavements of the UK,  I'm guessing it has given up the ghost and has gone to the apple heaven in the sky.
If you can suggest ways of bringing it back to life it would be very much appreciated.
