Ipod Driver Install on Vista

I know that Itunes does not officially support Vista at the current time, but I am having a problem getting Vista to even recognize my iPod...
I have a 4th generation iPod, and when I try to install the drivers from the CD the installer minimizes to the taskbar and just hangs. Even if I try to connect the iPod to my computer, the screen does not change to "Do Not Remove"... it just stays on the normal menu screen even when connected.

Well, I tried system restore, and it's STILL giving me the blue screen of death. What the heck?! Why all of a sudden can't I plug my iPod in without it crashing my computer?

  • Problems with R4890 T2DIG driver install in Vista

    Hello,
I'm having problems installing drivers for a MSI R4890 T2DIG card.  I'm trying this on a fresh install of Vista Ultimate.
Initially, I was installing all the drivers (Express Setup) from the CD and was getting a kernel dump when the HDMI Audio drivers were being installed.  A reboot of the computer resulted in a mostly black screen with streaks of color near the center just after the windows logo appears - accompanied by a bad humming noise coming from the case!  After finding no way to resolve this problem (can't uninstall in safe-mode), I had to re-install Vista....  After creating a Complete PC Backup image, I tried installing just the ATI driver (which I downloaded from ATI's site).  The result was a successful install, but subsequent reboot results in same black screen, streaks of color and bad humming sound.
Any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated.

  • Can't find/install iPod Driver

I got a new PC with Windows Vista. When I connected my iPod to the USB, it said I needed the iPod Driver software. When I searched for it on my computer, I got this message:
Windows found driver software but encountered an error while attempting to install it. USB Mass Storage Device. The system cannot find the file specified. What do I need to do? Thank you.

You have to download a Hotfix for Vista from the Microsoft website. After i downloaded this, iTunes was able to recognize my iPod...FINALLY!!! after 6 months, I'm able to update my iPod.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/937187/en-us
after you click on the Hotfix link, scroll down to the Hotfix information section, click on http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=6294451. fill out the information...microsoft will send you a .zip with a password to download.

  • IPod driver not available for Windows Vista ?

    Hi,
I have upgraded my PC to Windws Vista. Tne main problem is that the ipod driver can't be found by windows.
How can I have my iPod work on Windows Vista ?
Thanks in advance for any help !

I'm also successfully using Vista and the 5th gen iPod.
Syncing music was no prob, but I got the infamous "error (-50)" and an auto-disconnect the first time I tried to sync video. I did not have disk use enabled, although Vista kept asking me if I wanted to "scan and fix disk errors" when I connected. I remedied the disconnects by:
    1) Open iTunes (without iPod connected)
    2) plug in iPod
    3) checked "enable disk use" and hit "apply"
    4) disconnected iPod, then reconnected
    5) opened video tab and enabled "sync all"
    6) hit "apply"
No problems now, although Vista still wants to check my iPod when I connect.

I have the exact same problem with my Power Mac. At first I thought it was an issue w/ my Sonnet upgrade card but after reading these forums its obviously a software issue. Everything else about 10.2.8 has worked fine but when I attempt to download & install the iPod driver 3.1 the "software updater" unexpectedly quits. I have yet to find a direct download from Apple's website that would allow us to bypass the software updater but perhaps the problem lies within the OS. If anyone could provide some suggestions here it would be greatly appreciated.

  • Need help installing my graphics driver in windows vista via boot camp

New to mac so first time on forum as well.
Love the Mac but i also want to get on some old games. C&C The First Decade mainly.
    I am currently using below.
Mac mini Mid 2011 processor 2.5 GHz Intel Core it
    Memory 4 GB 1333 Mhz DDR3
Graphics AMD Radeon HD 6630M 256 MB
Software Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5
Installing windows vista home premium 32 bit
I have installed windows vista home premium using boot camp assistant and downloaded the windows drivers as well. After i have installed windows i installed boot camp using my Mac OS X snow leopard which installed boot camp 3 or 3.1 i believe and i eventually got apple updates for 3.2 which is what i am now runnning on vista. I had trouble getting my sound to play through my speakers at first but eventually got them working and now it is my graphics driver that i cannot seem to get working. In vista(I also downloaded service pack 1 and 2) when i go to control panel and check out my device control it shows a yellow exclamation point next to the adapter. I guess i need help in getting my graphics installed correctly on my windows. Is there something i should take off to install the correct driver? Or do i just need the correct driver download? If i have the correct driver how do i upload it onto my windows side in the device control.
When i try to run c&c generals/zero hour i get a directx 8.1 error, red alert 2 is black but i can hear. i know these games can work i installed the graphics correctly the first time when i did not have sound as this is my second time installing windows so the game did load when i did not have sound.
    Advise?
I was thinking about saying forget this i can't waste hours of my time anymore but i have to be close to getting everything working if i had graphics before and no sound but sound this time and no graphics. I was also thinking about just buying windows 7 home premium sp1 64bit system builder dvd off amazon and reinstalling windows using windows 7 but i want to make sure i can play these games before i spend the money. I thought my mini couldn't support windows vista and if it did only boot camp 4? how am i getting this far to get things to work?
What is the driver i need to install to get these games working? What do I need to do or what am I missing???
Do i need to install a different boot camp off apple and find a driver that will get mine to work in vista?
Any and all responses will be greatly appreciated i have been at this everyday for hours.

Also is there something, say maybe a driver, that was installed i do not need that is blocking me from installing the correct drivers? What driver in my boot camp folder do i need to install to get to the correct display to run those games.

  • How do I install Windows Vista in my R500 that I just put a new hard drive into?

I was given an R500 that had the hard drive removed by the previous owner for security reasons. I bought a charger and a new hard drive and intended to install Windows Vista that I bought a while ago and never used. I charged up the battery. The battery is good. I installed the hard drive. I'm pretty sure I got that right. Then I turned on the laptop. I expected to see a menu giving me some hint as to what to do next but all I see is ThinkPad in big white letters and underneath "To interrupt normal startup, press the blue ThinkVantage button." I stared at the screen for a while and then pushed the blue ThinkVantage button. Nothing happened. I opened the disc drive and put in the installation disk thinking that should bring up a menu. It didn't. Nothing happened.
I'm reasonably experienced with computers and have installed hardware and operating systems before but this has my stymied.
Anybody have any idea about how this is supposed to work?

Actually, I tried that and nothing worked. Couldn't get past the opening screen. Fortunately, I have several other Thinkpads of various models that I got for a few bucks each (without hard drives) from a business that was replacing all their laptops. I pulled the hard drive out and put it in another R500 and, after a few fits and starts, got Vista up and running and then found out that the touchpad was flakey and the mouse pointer would freeze. All the USB ports were broken so I couldn't use my wireless mouse. Out came the hard drive and my next try was in an R61. Funny thing. Vista opened right up but there's no touchpad on the R61. (You can tell I'm new to Thinkpads.) Took me a few minutes of scratching my head and googling to figure out that the red button moves the mouse pointer on the screen. Now I have one good one so far and I'll see how many of the others I can make work.
    Thanks for your help.

  • I want to get windows vista on the macbook pro with retina display but my first question is this that how do i install it without using a DVD OR CD disk drive, and my second question while installing windows vista do i have to tick mark the install win 7

hello i have a few problems and i hope somebody has a solution my first problem is that how can i install windows vista without using a disk drive and my second problem is that should i tick mark the option which says Install windows 7 while using boot camp please reply, Thanks,

When running Windows in a virtual environment Windows and OSx share your computer's resources such as RAM. Therefore your games can not use all your computer's resources when running.
If you install Windows natively then Windows and your games can and do use all your computer's resource such as RAM.
But as already said, older operating systems are not supported and will not run natively using Boot Camp Assistant. You must use Windows 7 if installing natively in Lion or Moubtain Lion.

  • IPod driver 3.1 install on Mac OS X 10.2.8 crashes

Hi, I have an iMac G3 that I have upgraded the OS to Mac OS X 10.2.8 and I am having problems with installing the iPod driver 3.1. In software update it downloads jsut fine, but when it trys to intall it software update crashes. I have tryed to find a download of the driver but to no avail. I have noticed that this is a common problem. I was just wondering if anyone found anything on this. I am a very technical person so I can handle more technical instructions. THanks!

    Is this the one?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL404
At first I thought this was a Windows-only download. but there are two different links there. The big button on the right side points to a .dmg file, so it's Mac.
EDIT: Oops! I just noticed that driver requires Mac OS 10.3.9 or higher. Maybe that's the problem. However, I'm surprised that Software Update would offer it were it not supported by your OS.
SU--at least in later versions of the Mac OS--has the option to download only rather than install. Might download it, quit SU, and then try installing.

    All,
A very interesting NOTE to this thread. In order to try and get the "ignore permissions" box to show up in GET INFO (so I could execute Matt the Magician's solution to file sharing issues)-- I ran the terminal command for disabling ACLs on my internal HD / start up disk (as indicated in the linked thread to BDAqua's forum).
Although I understand that this was useless for disabling permissions on the start up disk (as everyone here pointed out) and allowing me to see the "ignore permissions" check box - somehow it did seem to fix my file sharing problem...and that was the root problem I wanted solved in the first place! After doing the terminal command and a quick reboot, I went in and tested file sharing on the chosen directory and I can create new files or work from existing files in the directory, with both users being able to modify / and save from both machines and each machine sees the revisions and can build from them. Bottom line - I'm stoked and want to thank everyone for their help.
The only other tweak I made was going over to my wife's machine and instead of using her log in / password, I just used my name and password to connect to my main machine that was sharing directories. Maybe that's what fixed the problem or the ACL disable but either way...I'm up and running the way I want to be.
Hope this thread helps anyone else who has these file sharing / permissions issues with Leopard. Especially for anyone wanting to do such a simple file sharing set up between 2 computers. I wish I understood exactly which tweak fixed the problem, but at least it works the way I want now.
So happy to be done w/this one!
Thx everyone. Any additional input on what solved it is welcome, so my curiosity is quelled...

  • IPod Touch connection with Vista

My iPod touch is not recognized by Windows Vista. On the same computer the iPod video works well. I have the newest version of iTunes 4.7, which should have the driver included, but Vista keeps looking for the driver.
    Any suggestions?

Just wanted to add one more solution to using iTouch with 32 bit version of Windows Vista as I spent the last 72 hours trying to get my daughter's iTouch to work with a new Dell Inspiron (w/ Vista Home). I tried disabling/uninstalling and reinstalling from the Device Manager as noted in previous posts in this thread. Was almost ready to throw in the towel when I did one last search for alternate solutions and found the following instructions to reinstall the drivers, but to instead of having the system look to the c:\Windows\inf or c:\windows\system 32 folders for the drivers, the path is changed to c:\program files\common files\Apple\Apple Mobile Support\Drivers, which is apparently where Vista installs the drivers to. Once I changed the path the driver properly reflected the iTouch as a USB device, and not a digital camera. Hope this helps anyone else who is having the same issue.
    Try these steps:
    1. Log in using an ADMINISTRATIVE account
    2. Verify you have the following files usbaapl.cat, usbaapl.inf & usbaapl.sys in the following directory "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers"
    3. Single left click on START
    4. Single left click on RUN
    5. Type in " devmgmt.msc " then hit Enter (Don't type in the quotes)
    6. Look for Imaging in the Device Manager window, and click on plus sign (In Vista you may not see the "Imaging" option. Look under "Portable Devices" as an alternative)
    7. Now you should see " Apple iPod " as a device underneath Imaging (or Portable Devices)
    8. Right click on " Apple iPod " then single left click on Properties
    9. Single left click on the " Driver " tab
    10. Single left click on " Update driver "
    11. Select " Install from a list or specific location "
    12. Single left click on " Include this location in the search "
    13. Paste " C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers " (Don't type in the quotes) into the box below " Include this location in the
    search "
    14. Single left click next and keep clicking through until " Apple iPod USB Driver " is detected.
    15. Start up iTunes, and see if you iPod is detected again.
For anyone trying to copy over their music from the iTouch to a new PC running Vista, I used TouchCopy (http://www.wideanglesoftware.com/). Once I got the iTouch to be seen by iTunes you close iTunes, install TouchCopy and then start the program, it will then look for your iTouch and once you connect it it's a snap to copy the music to your iTunes library.
Hope this helps anyone with sames Vista/iTouch issues. Good Luck!

  • Device manager says that the iPod driver cannot be found

    Hey all,
Recently my computer wasn't recognizing my ipod nano 6th generation. When I looked into the driver issue, I saw the following image. It looks like the Apple Mobile Device driver is working fine, but iPod driver under "other devices" is not working. When I click to manually update the driver, the computer tells me that windows cannot find a driver that supports the device. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hello, egiles87.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If your device is not recognized by iTunes, I would recommend the steps in the article below.  Start with the section labeled Verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed > Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8 > If the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is not listed > Step 5 > If only Apple iPhone, Apple iPad, or Apple iPod appears.
iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch not recognized in iTunes for Windows
