IPod earphones have become magnetic

I've noticed the problems a lot of people have complained about with a 5th gen iPod and the iPod earbuds; over the last few weeks a noticeable buzz has developed on some of the louder sounds in my left bud and the quality of the earbuds overall (especially the left) is decreasing rapidly.
However when I turned my iPod off tonight and put it on the desk I noticed that the earbuds started acting like the small magnets you used to get in school; depending on the angle they repel/attract each other strong enough to push/pull the earbud I'm not holding. Obviously I'm concerned about putting them in my ears (not sure if it will have any effect, but don't want to risk it) - presume I'm just going to have to send them back?

Hi Ukdmbfan,
Welcome to Apple Discussions
I believe the reason why you are getting that buzz is because you might be playing your music too loud for the headphones themselves (frequencies as well). If you want to get new headphones, you might want to look at iPod Service Request to get new ones under warranty.
I believe headphones are magnets for the most part. If you take any pair of headphones apart you should notice that there are magnets. I wouldn't worry about putting them in your ears unless they are metal (ears).

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

Dear Apple...I know time marches on but unfortunately you have become useless to those of us who can't upgrade systems or afford Iphones. So my itunes is totally unavailalbe since ipods can't work w/Itunes 9, so all the $ I spent is out the window! I have been an apple mac user since the Blue Tower in early 2000. The fact that I recently replace a stolen Ipod Classic and it isn't compatible w/iTunes9 is really screwed up. You have failed many!

    What is your question?

  • When will the ipod touch 5 become available in stores?

When will the Ipod touch 5 become available to buy in stores? When will apple release the date?

"When will the Ipod touch 5 become available to buy in stores? "
Apple has announced October.  They have announced NOTHING else.
"When will apple release the date?"
there is no way to know wuch a thing.

  • Ipod earphones malfunctioning - playing at different volumes

A few days ago i confirmed my suspicions that my ipod earphones were faulty. Basically, whilst playing music on my ipod, it can be clearly heard that the right earpiece plays music at a louder volume than the left earpiece.
These are the ipod earphones which came with my ipod. I tested them on my computer, got another person to listen (to make sure it wasnt just my ears) and the same problem occurred.
Im pretty sure they have always been like this, as when i first got them and listened to music they sounded abit weird but i shrugged it off as a first use thing.
I bought my ipod nano 4G early this year, around the end of february. So ive only had them for approximately 6.5 months.
Am i eligible to recieve a new set of earphones or get them fixed?
Default warranty for ipod lasts one year.

  • Ipod earphones

    Hi,
I am having some problems with my IPOD earphones, Right speaker is giving a weird sound.
I bought this IPOD in Jan 2006, can I get the earphones replaced under the one year limited warranty.
Additionally can i also get an apple protection plan now, 3 months after the purchase of my IPOD?
    Thanks,

Have you tried other headphones to make sure that they are at fault and not the iPod?
Yes, you can request new headphones by filling out the service request.

The AppleCare plan can be bought any time during the initial 12 month warranty, so yes, you can get it now.

  • IPod earphone socket problems

Hi everyone, I am having some issues with my iPod earphone socket and I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions or help.
First off, I have a Video iPod 60 GB that I purchased about a year and a half ago (to be more specific, Christmas time 2005). Throughout that time my iPod has been working fine, until about a week ago.
My right earphone no longer works, unless I apply force on the earphone jack. I've tried five earphones, two iPod-made ones (one old generation, one new) and all have the same defect. Should I try and ship this in to Apple or should I just replace it with a new one?

Unless you purchased the extended warranty, your iPod is past the original 12 month warranty.
You're looking at a fairly hefty out of warranty service price from Apple.
There are much cheaper 3rd party repair options if you Google for them. I can't point you in the direction of any since you don't state your geographical location.

  • Where i can buy some more ipod earphones

Where can i buy some ipod earphones (the ones that come with your ipod). i mean the ones that dont have a lanyard or anything with them just the plain earphones.
    Pentium 4   Windows XP

I use Sony MDR-EX71SLW Stereo Earphones. I get them
from Amazon.co.uk. Here's the link so you can view
them. They are very comfortable and pretty good

  • Some USB functions have become inoperable

My wife has an AlPB 1.67. She was using an external USB keyboard and mouse. Suddenly, these have become inoperable. They both work with other computers, so they are ok.
I can connect a USB iPod and that works.
I've done an Erase and Install, and still they don't work.
Any ideas would be most welcomed. An Open Firmware reset?
    Thanks in advance
    David

When there's an issue with the USB port(s), often a power management unit (PMU) reset will fix it. See the Apple note at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=14449 . If that doesn't do it, a PRAM reset may, see http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=2238

  • 3G Ipod earphones (headphones) died. OUT of warranty. any suggestions?

3G Ipod earphones (headphones) died. OUT of warranty. any suggestions for non-apple brand earphones that are good quality?
    thanks.

Thanks everyone for your advice, although i dont think im going to try chucking it off any sofas. unfortunatley there are no apple stores in ireland but im contacting the 3 apple authorised resellers in dublin. so far they have directed me to an ipod repairer in the uk - www.ukipodrepairs.co.uk, if anyone is interested. its gona cost me at least 125 pounds sterling (180 euro, 220 dollars) to get it fixed- i ain't made of money people!
is it common for an ipod to go kaputt after just over a year? i feel very hard done by because i didn't do anything to it to make it stop working. could it be a manufacturing problem?

  • 4G 20GB iPod ruined because of magnets--what now?

Hi. I placed my iPod in the same bag with a grill light that has a strong magnet, without thinking. The iPod stuck to the magnet and now it will not work. I get the sad iPod icon with the website for Apple support. I'm hoping replacing a the drive will fix it. I'm wondering if ya'll know what the largest drive is that I can get for it? Is it a 30GB drive?
Also, there's no way to "reverse" or demagnatize the the damage so that I can at least mount the iPod in disk mode is there?

    Thanks very much Jeff.
I figured that was the next plan of action. I hope that resolveds the problem. I just have to free up some hard drive space to backup some files and stuff first.
    Take Care.

  • My address book and iPhone pics have become low resolution.  Is there a way I can prevent this from happening when I start out with a higher resolution picture?

I guess I squeezed my entire issue into the subject line.  lol   When I sync my iphone to my laptop I notice that all my address book pics and iphone pics have become lower resolution, even though I started out with the resolution that I really needed to produce decenty address book printouts.  I doubt I can correct the losses of resolution that have occurred but can anyone help me figure out how to prevent future losses?  Thank you!

Plugins usually are installed externally to Firefox. However, you can disable them in Firefox so that Firefox does not use them.
SearchReset is supposed to automate the task of resetting certain preferences, but you still can edit them manually if necessary.
    '''''Address Bar Search'''''
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the filter box, type or paste '''keyword''' and pause while the list is filtered
    (3) Right-click '''keyword.URL''' and choose Reset. This should restore Google as the default for address bar search.
    Does that work?
    '''''Search Box'''''
Usually it works to choose your preferred search engine from the drop-down. To remove an unwanted search engine plugin, usually the Manage Search Engines... choice at the bottom of the drop-down takes care of it.
    Do either of those work?
There might be another way to hijack that search box; I think some of the other frequent responders probably are more familiar with it than I am.

  • Photos in camera roll have become blurred, can't take new ones

My old photos in my iPhone4 camera roll have become blurred and I can't take new photos, as they aren't saved properly (either they look blurred or i see a blank or black rectangle in the camera roll). Any ideas? I do not want to reinstall the iOS please...

Yes I've tried it, several times. I've shut down all the apps, then put in "airplane" mode, then reset, then reset again..

This might be a stupid question, but I just bought an IPod G5 60 GB. When you firstconnect your IPod you have to setup your ID. I'm using my brothers computer, who has an IPod too, so now I'm wondering when I set up my ID with his Itunes does his Ipod still work with it??? Or would his ITunes just see my IPod? Or does his Ipod ID change to my ID?
Or does it work without any problems, to setup two IDs on the same computer??
    Thanks!
