IPod erased itself after battery died (!!!)

I haven't previously had any problems with my 5G 60gig, this has never happened before when the battery died... of coruse the iPod remembered all the bogus settings like eq preference, but magically, all my songs nad videos have vanished. and i dont have em backed up. what did i do wrong??? the battery was dead for about a minute before i charged it again... is this even a common problem? another interesting thing to note is ive realized my "available capacity" in the 'about' setting is perpetually at 47.8 gigs no matter what. it was before and it is now, and theres seemingly nothing on it. is this related? are my songs there but not visible (hah)?...??!?!!!!!!!!! what gives??!!!!!

Have you reset it by holding down the menu and select buttons for 10-15 seconds until the apple logo appears? It sounds like if the iPod is saying it has used up space, that your music and videos MIGHT still be there but there may be just just a glitch in what is showing up after the battery drained.
PLEASE always back up your music and videos on computer or disc or however you'd like to. An iPod is a storage device but I wouldn't look at it as a permanent one. A lost or stolen iPod could be more than just an iPod if it's the only way you keep/store your music and videos and pictures.

When playing a song, are the controls at the top of the screen there? (Genius, Shuffle, Loop?)
If not, tap the center of the page once to expose them
now keep tapping the circle on the left part of the exposed controls untill a one (1) appears...

Help! My iPhone 5 wont turn on after battery died. iPhone is not reponding to charger or anything I have tried... Hard reset is not in option beacuse iPhone is turned off.

Your only chance is letting it charge for about 10min, then connecting it in recovery mode, explained here:

If it does not charge at all, you'll have to get it serviced by Apple.

  • Help - why does my iPod erase itself and refuse to charge?

I have a click wheel iPod. I just sent in for a new battery in January, and the replacement is now experiencing the same problems I had with my old iPod. It worked fine for the first month or so, but then it wouldn't charge. I could hear it power up, but then die. The screen looped between the exclamation point and a low battery picture, even when it was plugged into the computer or the wall.
Today I tried one last time before I called support, and it finally started charging. It had completely erased itself, though. These symptoms are similar to what happened on my first iPod. Anyone know what is going on with my iPod? Thanks!

Try resetting the iPod.  Nothing will be lost.
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
You can also try another cable and usb port.

  • Ipod erases itself

I've got a fourth gen ipod, a little over a year old. I had a software problem with it before, but i fixed it and it worked fine afterwards. Then, about a week ago, i used a new updater to update the ipod's software and in the middle of listening to my ipod the next day, the thing started freezing up and skipping songs, as it had done the last time it had trouble. Assuming it was the same problem, i tried to fix it again (i used that dropping technique that they keep deleteing from the forums... i dont really recommend it now since this could be a direct symptom of dropping it anyway). Then, i used the soft reset and let it try and calm itself down, but i went back to the playlists section to find it totally blank, and I checked the about sceen to see my ipod now had 0 songs on it. I've tried just about everything the past week to fix it (aside from dropping it, i dont think i'll be doing that again), including several restores and reflashes, and every time i try and update, the ipod either wont give me all the songs and windows gives some sort of "delayed write error" or the ipod gets up to about 1900 songs or so and decides to erase itself again. the odd thing is, even after it erases itself it functions perfectly. Sometimes, i wont need to restore it and i can just add songs again, all of which work fine. As far as i know itunes and my ipod are just fine, and i even used the older updater to restore it a few times just to make sure. My year old ipod just refuses to cooperate and after caring for it so well i really dont want to buy a new one, especially since it retains and plays music just fine. If someone has any ideas please, please, please help.

"i used that dropping technique that they keep deleteing from the forums... i dont really recommend it now since this could be a direct symptom of dropping it anyway"
Why do you think the Mods delete the posts? This is exactly the issue they want to avoid.
My guess is that this iPod needs repair. Being unable to write to the iPods hard drive, especially after it's been dropped is not a good sign. Software restores aren't going to cure any physical damage that may have occurred through dropping it.
" As far as i know itunes and my ipod are just fine"
I'm confused by this statement since the iPod keeps erasing its hard drive.
"My year old ipod just refuses to cooperate and after caring for it so well"
    You're kidding, right?!

  • Macbook won't start up immediately after battery dying

When I plug in my Macbook after its battery died, it won't start up immediately.
Every single time I have to press power button if I want it to start up. When I do this, it makes a really strange noise. (it's comparable with the sound your Macbook makes when you put in a DVD or something) Afterwards I can see my desktop but the screen is white/transparant and at the same time a progress bar appears. When this bar is full, my Macbook shuts down again and I have to do it all over again. The second time around my Macbook will start working eventually. The white, transparant screen disappears and after a minute or so, I can move my mouse again.
Is there anything that can be done to resolve this?
    Thank you

    Hi Laura Hallaert,
I understand that you are seeing a progress bar appear after waking from sleep when your computer has shut itself down from a lack of power. This article will explain to you why you see the progress bar:
Mac computers: Progress bar appears after waking from sleep - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201635
This progress bar only appears when your computer’s battery power has been depleted, so if you put your computer to sleep before that happens, you should not see this behavior any longer. Thanks for coming to the Apple Support Communities!

  • Nokia 6350 wont turn on after battery dying.

My Nokia 6350 will not turn back on after the battery died.  I then proceeded to plug the charger into the phone and turn the phone back on; the screen went white.  I took the battery out and put it back in then the phone wouldn't even turn on at all after that.
I took the battery out for 15 minutes then put it back in and still nothing happened when I tried to turn it back on.
Should I replace my battery? or is there another option that does require me to spend money?

Is the battery charging? You could also try it with another battery if you have access to another phone which uses the same battery.
Since you've tried the all the removing battery stuff, you could also try removing the sim and memory card. Other than that there isn't a lot else you can try with the 6350. The next step would be the Nokia Care Point.

  • IPod reboots itself after one particular track.

    Hi,
I've tried finding the answer through Google, but had no luck.
My iPod touch reboots itself after I choose to play a particular track. It happens as soon as the track has finished playing. It's strange because it only happens if I manually select this track to be played- it doesn't happen when the iPod selects it (like when it's on shuffle). I bought the song from iTunes so I'm sure it's not corrupt and this didn't happen with my iPod nano...

"it forgets what album and track you were playing before the recharge."
If you are charging it via a computer, that's normal. You are making a connection to the computer and it will show the "do not disconnect" screen. After disconnection, it reverts to the main menu.
If you charge via the wall charger, it will 'remember' where you left off.

  • OS 10.9.2 no sound after battery died

I was playing music in iTunes, and the battery died.
When I restarted after plugging in, the sound icon in the tool bar is grayed out. I opened System Preferences, and the Digital Out device says, "The selected device has no output controls."
I did a NVRM / PRAM reset, as well as a Disk Utilities Permissions Repair -- no luck.
    Any help would be appreciated!

If you see red light in the headphone port, plug the headphone
in and out of the port 5 or 6 times to flip the microswitch inside.
Sound output may be stuck in the digital mode.
Try this even if you don’t see the red light.
    Best.

  • IPad won't turn on after battery died

I recently got a second-hand iPad 2 from a family member.  It was working fine until the battery died, and after charging for a moment, it will start turning on, but when it gets to the home screen, it only shows for a second before immediately turning off again.  I'm using a 1A charger and was wondering if that was the issue, or if there is something wrong with my iPad.

Try using the original charger and cable.

  • Language changed to German after battery died

The battery died completely on my tablet.  Got it charged and when it powered up it was in German.  Does anyone know how to change that?
Post relates to: HP TouchPad (WiFi)

I used the advice of a previous poster when I found that my iTunes was in French. I tried switching my language preference but that didn't work, but when I switched my locale (at the bottom of the main iTunes page) it switched it back to English.
    Hope this helps.

  • 4s says 'searching' for signal after battery died

hi all my battery died last night so when i got home i plugged in the charger and turned it on but wouldnt for about 5mins, when it did turn on it kept searching for signal but couldnt pick any up, kept turning it off and on and resetin it and then eventually 2 bars came up but wouldnt send txt msgs but when i phone my 4s from another phone it seems to be ringing but the 4s is not ringing.... help

You need to take it apart again and re-attach the antenna. This happened when I replaced the screen on my iPhone 4. If you had someone else do it, make them fix it for free. There is a plug that you have to plug in, and it was probably not plugged in properly.

  • HotSync inop after battery died

During last hotsync, the Palm battery died and froze the unit on the cleaning up screen. Soft reset required to restore Palm function.  Hot sync was then attempted and failed.
"PC Message= 'One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it. '
Palm message= 'Hot Sync Problem.  The connection between your handheld computer and the desktop could not be established.  Please check yout setup and try again'
Hot sync appears to run on Palm, and disk activity is heard on PC, until fail messages appear.
Performed a soft reset of Palm, and tried twice, but same messages.  Rebooted puter also but same messages.
PC is older but both have worked fine together for years.  Using XP Pro. and Pam Desktop.  Nothing was changed, (SW or HW) before the failure.
Would a hard reset be worth a try?
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Post relates to: Tungsten E

The battery is used as a power source to keep the contents of NVRAM in place which store certain information between reboots.
It used to be we had a separate battery like a large watch battery, a lot of PC's still work this way.
So you need to get the battery replaced.
Sometimes a #1 SMC Reset will fix it and allow a battery to charge.
