Ipod fans,

I have bought about 80 ipod's Nano (2nd generation) about 2.5 year ago for my business associates.
Now I have about 20 ipod in stock (left overs) and I want to update them for giving them away for friends.
If I connect them to my computer, they function (after fully loaded) perfectly! But if I disconnect them from my computer, the Ipod freezes totally (completly).
If I reconnect them, the Ipod works fine (after a minute for reconnection), but if I disconnect them again, it freezes again!!
I know that the time for the first use is very long (2,5 years), but is there a way to make them usable again, or is the batterie really dead!!
I'm from Holland, so I hope you will know what I mean with this question!
Matty

Connect the iPod to its syncing computer and restore the iPod via iTunes.  If itunes asks for a psscode and you can't enter it, place the iPod in recovery mode and then restore the iPod.  For recovery mode see:

  • My iPod Nightmare (won't restore in itunes 7)

    My iPod Nightmare
    My specs:
Windows XP Service Pack 2 (fully updated)
    iTunes 7.0
    iPod Video 60GB 5th Generation
Problems started about a month ago. At first, I stopped being able to eject the iPod, from iTunes or from Windows directly. This lasted for a few days. Then, iTunes stopped recognizing the iPod altogether, though Windows still recognized it as a mass storage device.
I then tried using the iPod Updater tool to restore my iPod. It gave me an "iPod service error", and refused to restore it. After restarting my computer multiple times, reinstalling the latest version of the updater tool, and still getting the same error, my iPod died completely. All it gave me was a folder with an exclamation point, and a link to the Apple support website. The batteries eventually dwindled away to the point where I could no longer turn on my iPod.
A couple weeks later, about a day after iTunes 7.0 was introduced, I brought my iPod to an Apple Store in hopes that they could replace it with a new one (I figured the harddrive was fried and it was beyond fixing). To my suprise, the tech guy actually got it to work again, though he formatted it for a Mac. So he went back to format it for Windows. About 20 minutes later, he came out and gave me some excuse about Norton Antivirus not allowing him to restore it, but that if I brought it home and reformatted it with iTunes 7, it should work fine.
So I took it home and plugged it into my computer, with my brand new installation of iTunes 7.0. To my joy it recognized my iPod, and said it needed to be reformatted/updated. So it downloaded the software it needed from the music store, and began the process of restoring it with the updates.
About halfway through, iTunes informed me that a restore error had occured, and that the iPod could not be restored. so I ejected my iPod, closed out of iTunes, restarted my computer, and tried again.
When I plug iPod in now, it first tells me that "iTunes has detected an iPod that appears to be corrupted. You may need to restore.....". It tells me that my ipod is up to date. When I click the restore button, it says "There was a rpoblem downloading the iPod software for the iPod "iPod". The requested resource was not found."
And now I'm stuck. I checked around on the Apple knowledge base and discussion forums for hours, found nothing to help me. I called Apple Tech Support, who's brilliant advice was to check the Apple support site (which I have been doing pretty much every day for the last month). He then wanted to charge me $50 for the phone call (rofl). After I told the tech support guy that I was under no circumstances giving them $50, he let me at least describe my problem to him. Then he recommended that I completely uninstall iTunes, reinstall, and try again (this did nothing whatsoever, although it gave me more headaches when the installer informed me that it couldn't start the iPodService the first time around).
I've been an iPod fan and owner for many years, but I am so frusterated right now that I'm seriously considering other options for portable music players. iTunes 7.0 is one of the buggiest, most overbloated pieces of software I have ever encountered that passes itself off as a "final" version (this release should have been a beta). But for now, I just want my iPod to work. Can anyone help me?

  • Please help! I cannot turn off IPOD due to blocking message

Please help, dear Ipod Experts and better Ipod Users,
I cannot turn off the Ipod (when I click to the bottom ) anymore as following message appears:
"FireWire connections are not supported to transfer songs, connect to the USB cable provided"
Even resetting the Ipod the message appears again and again and I dont have the slightest idea what the IPOD is trying to tell me. I have regularly uploaded the songs via Itunes with the USB cable (Nothing else) and I use the official I-Fusion Sonic Impact to hear the songs in loud. Can there be the connection, because I remember that this message started appearing when the IPOD was connected to the I-Fusion.
In order to turn the IPOD I have to leave it on till it turns off due to battery deload...Very sad solution, isnt it?
Thanks so much for answers for a real desperate Ipod Fan

  • IPod notes feature (ipod as a tour guide)

    Dear iPod fans
We were using iPods as tour guides as described in "ipod notes feature guide" (www.apple.com/ipod/ipodtours)
there was a nice feature enabling to link to media files like music and video using instructions like
    link to a song
on the new generation iPod this is not working (at least on the new nano). You basically can't click on the link because the instrucion seems not to be recognized by the new hardware
The iPod does not give any "error" (using the <ERRORS>tag in a note).
Copying the notes folder working on a past generation iPod video on the nano 3G results in "non interactive" menus thus making the tour guide iPod useless
has anyone tryed a way to fix this problem? Is any solution available?
    Thanks

The only way to view video files on the iPod is to
sync them to the iPod using iTunes.
    There's no way around that.
Thanks for the reply. In the guide they show how to point to songs do you know if there is a similar command to point to the movies I add? If that is possible then I would not have a problem.

  • Failed to restore ipod with itune 7.6

I found the following post for iTunes 7.4.3, but the same case for my iTunes 7.6 + firmware 1.1.4. Tried the suggested solution but no luck.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306084
I keep getting "The iPod "[username]" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1601)" Error

Problem solved, I've brought my iPod back to life =D
Let me have a re-cap of what had happened on my ipod
    [ Cause ]
iPod running out of power, and shut down itself. I didn't realize this and tried to turn on it again, and problem started ... (i lately found that it fell into recovery mode)
[ Symptom ] (I've experienced many errors, all shown below)
    1. blank black screen (expected), the screen showed nothing even in progress of recharge, reset or restore. and ipod fell into recovery mode.
    2. blank white screen and yellow screen during restore
    3. iTunes give unkonwn error 1, 1601, 1604, 6 and -6
    4. computer cannot detect iPod suddenely
    5. restore process looked good, but failed at the stage "verifying iPod firmware"
    6. iPod ran into DFU and iBoot recovery mode when connecting to PC.
[ What I have done ] (i dare not call it solution, as i have tried so much reset-restor-reset-restore ... on it)
    # when problem (4) occurred, I reset iPod and put it in recovery mode (by pressing Power + Home button for 10 sec with USB cable plugged to PC, and "Apple Recovery (DFU) USB Driver" would show in PC Device Manager. Run iTune and would force you to restore.
    # when updating firmware, it was detected as "Apple Recovery (iBoot) USB Driver". Then changed to DFU and forced you to run iTunes again to restore.
    # when problem (3) occurred, I repeatedly tried restore-restore-restore... until it gave the same error (and my last error is unknown error 1601)
    # I did un-install and re-install iTunes
BUT, regardless so much i've worked on it, i strongly believe the ONLY THING i'll try next time if problem occur again:
No matter what you see on the screen, even nothing, and whatever it is detected in PC, FULLY RECHARGE IT first before you do anything. It'd likely come back to life AUTOMATICALLY. If it doesn't work, put it aside for some days, come back and try again.
my last comment: iPod is great, but iTune itself is stupid. It's interesting to find many ipod fans world trying their very best to help iTunes to explain what does 1601,1604,-6 actually means, and to give known solutions for unknown errors.

  • How to transfer songs from old MP3 player to Ipod

I have just upgraded to a 30gig Ipod Video. I had a Sony Walkman MP3 player before. I have got a couple of hundred songs on that MP3 player that I want to put on my Ipod. When I plug my old MP3 player into the computer and open Itunes, the songs come up in the Connect Player format (Connect Player is the Sony Walkman software). When I try to add them to Itunes it doesnt do anything or come up with any error message. I know they are the wrong format, how do I change them into a format that will go into Itunes.
    Big Ipod Fan, Birmingham, England.

You need software that will convert the songs to iPod form. You can just google the phrase "iPod Music Converter". And if you cant find anything change the phrase around a little bit.

Do Not Use Latest Version Of Itunes see below from other thread on same topic. For some reason apple does not support the shuffle with newer versions of Itunes.

I tried everything. Then, this worked for me (I have a PC)
    1. Uninstall iTunes completely
    2. Delete any remaining iTunes files (you may have a library file in My Documents > My Music > iTunes
    3. Restart your computer
    4. Install iTunes 7.0.2 (www.oldapps.com for the version)
Downgrade, it will change your life. This version runs faster than 7.5, works fine with the iPod, and even managed to find all the artwork for my songs - which the later versions never did. I thought newer versions were supposed to be better?

  • Tired of Menus, I suggest 1 or 2 programmable buttons on the iPod

    Hi
I don't know how many are thinking the same but I'm so tired of going through menus.
I wish for one or two more buttons on my next iPod.
I've had three or four iPods so far, two that I use regularly right now, a G1 20GB and a G5 60GB. So obviously I'm an avid iPod fan and user.
The setting I go back to the most often is switching from "Shuffle Songs" to "No Shuffle" or "Shuffle Albums".
I listen to a wide array of music. Shuffle doesnt' make any sense whenever I listen to classical music.
Software is great but there is a point where it just becomes a maze.
Hardware commands are much more natural. My numerous walkmans are buttons for xbass, for repeat/reverse.
Even controlling the volume through the wheel instead of a little wheel on the top of the iPod is responsible alone for hundreds of occurences of frustration at having to remove the iPod from its case or from my bag, instead of just accessing it quickly from the top.
I would like to have one or two programmable small buttons on the iPod. I would affect one to Shuffle, maybe the other to my Alarm clocks. I could change my mind.
By the way there is one important thing lacking from the alarms, it's the ability to set them for select days of the week.
Every saturday and sunday morning, my unplugged ipod wakes up at the usual time and plays for whatever long a time, until I wake up and stop it. Sometimes, it has already ran out of batteries. My Sony Ericsson phone lets me set an alarm on select days only, it's very practical.
    Thanks for your attention.

  • Basics of Downloading a Video-Videora Steps Simplified

Okay, I've noticed many an iPod fan come up here with such topics as "PLEASE HELP ME1!!!!!!" and found this:
I don't know how to download a video to my iPod Video.
No matter if you have a Mac or Windows computer, you need not waste your money on QT Pro or any other strange thing to download for money like that. Videora iPod Converter does all this for you. Here's the link:
    http://www.videora.com/en-us/Converter/iPod/
And here's the basic steps if this confuses you:
    1. After you've followed most of the complicated steps of the settings, open the DVD Decrypter. Most of the settings there are still saved, except for one thing.
    2. Go to the "Stream Processing" tab, check Enable and all you need are the first two checks: Video and Audio. The rest are unnecessary and will probably cause unneeded space.
    3. Choose a destination for the file. The best place for is in "My Videos" under "My Documents" if you're a Windows user. Do this by clicking on the folder with the magnifying glass.
    4. Click "DVD to Hard Drive" (shown as icons). If there's a problem with the file (it's already there) click Rename. This might show up a couple times depending on whether you have multiple videos in the folder.
    5. After you've finished that, go into Videora iPod Converter. Click the convert button on the left.
    6. Click "Transcode New Video". Remember what file you converted last, as it gets confusing. To the left you'll see Title where you can rename the file to whatever you want.
    7. Click the quality profile to be MPEG-4/320x240/768kbps Stereo/Etc.
    8. After it's completed, open iTunes. Click File, Add File to Library...and then open My Videos and the renamed file in .mp4 format. It should copy into iTunes and into Videos on its' own.
    9. Update iPod and you're done. If there are any other problems, read over the steps shown or complain in the Discussions board--remember to be specific on your problems!

  • Blank screen, music still plays

I have tried all the resetting steps as outlined in the troubleshooting section of the website...still nothing. The Apple logo flashes faintly for a second, then disappears. I can still listen to the music...it's just the display that's not working.

Same problem here. Durnit, I've already sent my Ipod back to repair 3 times witch has made me without my Ipod over two months. I assumed this wasn't a hardware probem though, since the apple logo flashes when I turn it on (after been completly emptied for bettery). And so great that I made my playlist with music from different computers, its a **** to get the music back on. Espechially since the ipod always
    a. restarts my computer
    b. freezes my computer
    c. Bluescreens my computer
Bluescreen is usually when I connect, freeze is random and restart is when I copy songs. What can I say, Im an Ipod fan <3<3<3<3<<3<3

  • Proby Questtion - Is 1.1.3 available in the UK?

I got my iPhone just in time for Christmas and there are some things missing that I thought would have been standard on any phone. I have read that 1.1.3 solves a few of these but not being an iPod fan before getting the phone I am having problems finding out where to download 1.1.3. I believe that it comes when you update the iTunes software (I think), and I have version 7.6. My iPhone settings tell me that I have 1.1.2, so where do I get 1.1.3 from?
Sorry if this is such a newbie question but I have to start somewhere.

I upgraded from iTunes as you suggested. Everything went ok, downloaded then upgraded, new screen came up with an instruction on how to modify the screen. But, the phone won't connect to O2. I closed the phone down, restarted it and still no 02 connection, just the screen for emergency numbers. I reconnected the USB so thatI could restore it and iTunes message said "cannot find sim, go to 02 store for new SIM card". Have you any suggestions?
