IPod Fifth Gen Scratches, Pt. 2
Okay, I'm back. I posted quite a while ago toward the end of August about my 5G iPod getting scratched quite badly, and someone suggested the Brasso trick to get them out. It worked...or so I thought.
After doing so, I bought a nice $24 (US Dollars) Belkin case for it. Since then, It hasn't left it's case. At all.
And strangely enough, I counted four more scratches appearing after I put the case on! I was shocked at this, seeing as my nano has never had any kind of case on it, and it doesn't have any kind of scratches on it.
Now, I don't know if there is any kind of repair program for this (Like the early nanos), but it would seem, by observation, that the 2005 5G iPods are prone to scratches.
So I pondered about buying a new iPod front panel off of www.ifixit.com. A white one, at that (My iPod's black, and I hear they are quite scratch-prone).
So I wanted to ask, would anyone have any insight on this little annoyance?

although I case my ipods and look after them, I noticed that they all get a light scratching as there are times they are taken out of the case, I have always put pda film over the screen so it's never been a problem. However with all the bad vibes I read about the new black ipods scratching i decided to take some extra insurance for the 5G.. this skin covers the face and after careful application there were a few inconsequential air bubbles but after a week they had all vanished and if you did not know there was a film on it you would not realise it is invisible. I did not install the wheel cover as i reckon it works best without a cover... I wish this kind of film had been about when i bought my first 3G and would recommend anyone with a small amount of patience and a new or scatchless ipod to get one.. you can then choose and use which ever case you wish and not care about scratching it

IPod Fifth Gen Widescreen Problem
I bought several movies from itunes including Resident Evil Extinction and Degeneration, The Mummy Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, and Pirates of the Caribean Curse of the Black Pearl. They all play back on my Fifth Gen ipod video in widescreen. I would prefer to use it fullscreen, so any answers would be greatly appreciated.
I have the same problem. Have tried _all_ of the suggestions including 4 of the "R"s - the Restore option is not possible, two different USB cables, 3 different computers (2 with latest iTunes update, 1 with previous). Still the same result - nothing! The ipod works fine apart from the connection issue. When attached to the computer "Do no disconnect" is displayed, but the ipod does not appear anywhere on the computer and iTunes does not start - even when I double click the icon.

IPod fifth gen. not charging neither connecting to computer
Hi, I have an iPod 5th generation 30gb and it isn't recognized by my computer.
It isn't charged.
iPod 5th gen. 30gb black Windows XPI am having the exact same problem. I have a dell Latitude D510 running XP pro. Please help. My daughter will be traveling to perform in the Rose Bowl Parade this year and it has become at must fix! All I have is a blank screen (dark) as though it is off. I just replaced the battery, thinking that was the problem. That did not change anything.

Ok, I have a iPod fifth generation. Which is 30GB. It's not the new 30GB though. I updated my iTunes and iPod to the latest software. (iTunes 7 and iPod version 1.2.) I checked the box that said enable disk use, but it's not showing up on my WindowsXp home edition SP2. I go to My Computer and I don't see the iPod. I think usually does that. Does it on other PC's? I only enabled my iPod for disk use once and I don't remember. I had software verison 6.0.5 when I enabled for disk use and it worked.

I've got an old iPod fifth generation video, with lots of music and video etc. can I use it as an external device to plug into my ipad 2? Is there a cable or docking station that would allow me to do this.... It would give me lots more space and capacity whilst on the move.

Games won't copy ipod fifth gen, need help!
I have an ipod fith gen 05 I recently downloaded sonic and naval battle and I can't seem to figure out how to get them on my ipod! I looked around the forum and some people have the same problem, but no one really figured out what to do! Please help!
1. Make sure iTunes is set to show your games. (Click "Edit>Preferences..." and check the "Applications" box.) Then, make sure that you actually downloaded them.
2. Plug in your iPod and click on it in the left pane.
3. Make sure your iPod is updated to the latest firmware. (There's a button to do this in iTunes.)
4. Click the "Games" tab on the right, and check the "All games" box.
5. Sync your iPod.
6. If it tells you to authorize, go to the menu bar and click "Store>Authorize Computer..." and type in your iTunes login and password. -
Ipod [fifth gen 30gb] crashes computer when transferring songs

Ive had my ipod for about 6 months. I update songs manually from my work and home macs.
Last week I tried updating but the computer screen went dark(er) with the following message in a black box in middle of screen:
"You need to restart your computer. Hold down the power button for several seconds or press the restart button. "
This happens each time Ive tried to update since.
The ipod will stay connected (and charging) from the my home mac but will not be recognised by my work mac anymore.
Any ideas?

Forgotten Restrictions Passcode Help

You will need to restore your device as New to remove a Restrictions passcode. Go through the normal process to restore your device, but when you see the options to restore as New or from a backup, be sure to choose New.
You can restore from a backup if you have one from BEFORE you set the restrictions passcode.

Itunes and/or ipod Fifth Gen. Virus?
I've searched everywhere on this site for an answer to my question, and found I was out of luck. I'm not aware that ipods can get viruses, but what about itunes ver. 6? I have the new ipod 60GB video, and everytime I connect it to my laptop or PC, this playlist outside pops under and never stops loading. It's labled as a playlist but it's blue and has the music note on it. It is called "diana beltran's limewire tunes' and I have never heard of anything of the sort. It's not listed on my ipod, but it is in itunes and never successfully loads. I right click on it and there is an option ot open or disconnect. I of course choose disconnect and it fails to do so. When i open it, it stays for a second with nothing in the new winder and closes itself after a few seconds. Anyone heard of this> Is it a podcast? I have bearshare and am wondering if some limewire thing got onto it. Any information on how to get rid of this thing or anything at all would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Ah, thank you very much for the information and for the nice welcome! I do file share with a program called bearshare and that's all I have in that nature; I don't have Limewire at all so I don't know how this got onto itunes. Is there any way to get rid of this? And why does the ipod do that strange space inconsistancy?

Fifth Gen 80 Gig iPod Playback Problem
About 4 weeks ago, I bought myself a nice new 80 gig iPod, fifth gen or whatever the newest one is, and it's been excellent. But sometimes I'll be listening to it and I'll have it on "Shuffle Songs" mode and when it comes to a song(It could be any random song, so I know it's not a particular song) it will sometimes freeze up while trying to play it. I'm thinking the problem could be because I rip my songs at 320kbps, so it's pretty well the highest quality around and so most song files are 10MB and up. This problem seems to only happen when it's on shuffle, and when it does happen, I usually restart my iPod, but I noticed one time, I just pressed a bunch of buttons and a few minutes later it played the song just fine. I'm not quite sure what the problem is, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a fifth gen ipod classic. I switched computers and was not able to transfer the songs and pictures over. When I connect my ipod to the computer it wants to sync with it which would delete all my songs and music. Is there a way around this?

My Ipod 4th Gen will not mount into Itunes
Please anyone with technical knowledge HELP ME.
The basic problem is that my 4th Generation Ipod will not mount into Itunes.
Let me tell you what I have done so far this includes all the R's, I have also followed the advice of reinstalling itunes and Quicktime I have also tried backwards installing to version 6 (at present I have upgraded to version 7.0.2). The ipod is visible in Windows and I still am able to use it as disk as I have programs I am using off it.
I have tried a fifth gen and also an Ipod mini and both mount onto my Itunes.
I have tried to reinstall the Ipod software, however the previous ipod updates do not work and as the Ipod cannot be mounted I cannot use Itunes to update it as it is not visible.
I have also run the Ipod Diagnostic in Itunes and everything seems fine (I have included the report if anyone can please understand it)and at the very bottom it states that the Ipod is truly Mounted. WELL ITS NOT
I really am getting desperate now as this is the same on both my Desktop and Laptop and I am getting very close to throwing the whole thing out along with all the rest of my computer equipment.

It appears to be truly mounted.If anyone is interested I managed to solve this problem by reformatting the ipod as a mac ipod, with the help of friends system. This does get rid of the music but as I had it backed up wasn't a problem. I then plugged the mac Ipod back into a windows pc and reformatted it as a windows ipod which updated the firmware correctly and have'nt had a problem since.

I purchased an iPod AV Connection Kit and I read and tried all the suggestions but I am still not receiving a video signal. So I used an S-Video cable and still no signal. I tried it on a fourth generation iPod and that did receive a video signal, only with the S-Video cable. Is there something I’m not doing correctly? Or do I need to take my fifth gen iPod in and see if that may be the problem?

My fifth gen ipod was working fine up untill a couple of weeks ago when my pc started to display it as an unknown usb device. the only piece of info I get from the pc is to reconnect the device and if the problem persists replace the device. now if i can get away with not replacing my ipod that would be great but i dont know how to fix this problem. upon trying to update the driver i get 'most recent driver intalled' and upon searching for the drive on the pc i get 'no driver for this device found'. i'v tried re-formatting but the pc wont allow me to it untill it recognises the device and i've removed and reinstalled itunes etc. the ipod works fine other than this issue.

Also you might try forcing the iPod into disk mode first, then connecting it to your computer and see if that makes it show up in iTunes...

IPod fifth Generation connection problem

My teacher has a fifth gen ipod and she got the brand new itunes update on her PC and now when she plugs it into her ipods dock, windows does not see the ipod at all, but the ipod says "Do Not Disconnect" Please Help!I have the same problem. Have tried _all_ of the suggestions including 4 of the "R"s - the Restore option is not possible, two different USB cables, 3 different computers (2 with latest iTunes update, 1 with previous). Still the same result - nothing! The ipod works fine apart from the connection issue. When attached to the computer "Do no disconnect" is displayed, but the ipod does not appear anywhere on the computer and iTunes does not start - even when I double click the icon.
