IPod fifth Generation connection problem

Hi
My teacher has a fifth gen ipod and she got the brand new itunes update on her PC and now when she plugs it into her ipods dock, windows does not see the ipod at all, but the ipod says "Do Not Disconnect" Please Help!

I have the same problem. Have tried _all_ of the suggestions including 4 of the "R"s - the Restore option is not possible, two different USB cables, 3 different computers (2 with latest iTunes update, 1 with previous). Still the same result - nothing! The ipod works fine apart from the connection issue. When attached to the computer "Do no disconnect" is displayed, but the ipod does not appear anywhere on the computer and iTunes does not start - even when I double click the icon.

  • Ipod 4th Generation connection problem

Ok i um i just got the ipod chromatic (4th gen) for christmas, i was really excited, well after maybe a month of having the ipod and addind and removing songs from it..the ipod just doesnt connect to the computer. When i plug in my ipod to my pc i hear the start up beep but itunes doesnt show that its connected and on the ipod screen it doesnt say connected. Now the usb chord works fine because i have a wallcharger and that chord works fine on the charger. So can anyone tell me wat is the problem????

I don't use mine with Windows, but try using another USB port (directly off the computer instead of a hub, if possible).
If that doesn't work, start the "5R" process:
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/nano4gen/
And, if you have another computer available, try connecting it to that, just to verify it's an iPod issue and not a Windows or computer problem. You don't have to sync to it, but just see if Windows / iTunes recognizes that it is connected.
    Hope this helps...

  • Ipod Fifth Generation Late 2006

    Dear Apple Forum,
I have a Ipod Fifth Generation Late 2006. Recently I experience an anomalyof this Ipod. I could not remember the latest version of the software in this Ipod. When I plugged into my lappy (OS is Win 7), my lappy could not read the Ipod as an external drive. When I double clicked on the Ipod icon, Win 7 prompts me to format my drive. After consulting my IT personnel of my company, we decide to re-format my Ipod. The settings for formating are as follows:
Storage: 80GB but Win 7 detected 72GB...where did the remaining 8GB go?
File System: exFat (Default) -> there was NTFS available but my IT staff says its ok.
Allocation unit size: 128kilobytes -> there were other values available, from 16kB to 32kB but we chose 128kB. What the ****??!!
After formating, it works find on my laptop with Win 7. But when i got home and connect to my iTunes, iTunes prompts me to restore software. After which it was not able to restore due to limited memory (my guess is the 128kilobyte).
    iTunes version is 10.3.
Now my Ipod cannot start up and it hangs at the initial boot up with the apple logo and a "clicking" sound (sounds like the sound of the harddisk mechanism) over and over and over again.
Now both WIn 7 and my iMac (Leopard) are not able to detect my Ipod. I have attempted the 5 Rs: Reset, Retry, Restart, Reinstall, Restore but to no avail.
Could someone advise me what I can do to restore my Ipod? Thank you!

it's possible to sync from a selected folder of
photos rather than from iPhoto. there's some
information on how to do that in the following
    document:
iTunes and iPod: Frequently asked questions
    (FAQ) about Photo Sync
Thanks for your reply. I still cannot get to the prompt to sync my photos. I really do believe that I'll have to upgrade from iPhoto 2.0 since the prompt appears "copying photos from iPhoto requires iPhoto 4.03 or later" - all other prompts are greyed out and therefore not selectable. Initially I tried copying photos from my desktop to iPod by dragging a folder of 50 photos ... that is appearing as an iPod cache and shows one folder of Photos and another of thumbnails, but neither of these can be viewed on iPod or computer .... any suggestions as to upgrading my iPhoto to 4.03 at least so I can try to sync photos? I did start out with iTunes 4.7 when I first got my computer in 2004 and have been notified of iTunes updates automatically and iTunes is now at 7.2. Does Apple not support iPhoto in much the same way?

The iPod Touch 5th Generation does, the 5th Generation Nano does not (no current Nano has it).

  • No Sound iPod fifth generation

I have a 30GB fifth generation classic iPod. I was having the 'no sound' issue, that many others have been experiencing. Through a community thread, I noticed that Apple was replacing the iPods under warranty even though the warranty period had expired. I called support and was informed that I was out of luck. Then I requested a supervisor. I was connected and she informed me that there was an investigation and Apple determined that it was not a manufacture's defect. Therefore, Apple was no longer providing free replacements. She then went on to state that I could repair or recycle. Although my iPod lasted 4 1/2 years, why would I want to repair or recycle (purchase) another like product with questionable reliability and a known shelf life. !@#$%! Apple. I went to the hardware store and purchased an after market repair clamp. It makes carrying the iPod in your pocket a *****, but what the ****. I also was trying to upload a picture of the piece of crap with the clamp installed, but this page would freeze and I would lose my text.

I would try restoreing the ipod to make sure it is not a software issue.

If the restore does not work, then you know it is a hardware issue and the ipod needs to be serviced.

Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on the router

  • Search on ipod fifth generation is false

on the apple website it has a demo of an ipod with a search feature and i upgraded my itunes and ipod and it still does not have that feature.

The search option was not added to existing iPods in the recent update. At present it's only available on the new ones. It may or may not be added in some future update.

  • Possible design flaw in Nike+iPod kit causes connection problem

I've been having some similar receiver/sensor connection problems as documented on these forums. Here's a page and video that diagnoses the problem as being a possible contact connection issue. Try squeezing your Nano to see if it makes contact. I'll try mine when I get home.

I think you meant you have the iPod nano software, version 1.2. iTunes 1.2 will definitely not work. 6.0.5 is the current version of iTunes The iPod options appear after plugging in your iPod, then choosing preferences in iTunes (or clicking the little iPod icon in the bottom right of the iTunes window). Nike + iPod prefs are in there too.

  • IPod touch 4th generation connection problems

My iPod touch indicates that it is connected to wifi (a connection that I frequently used in the past, and use for all my other deivces), and I even full wifi strength (three 'bars'), but I cannot use various apps that connect to the Internet or connect to iTunes (not sure if related).
Some apps do open and I can access the online parts (ex. Instagram, Mail), but the apps I mainly use (i.e. Twitter, iMessage, Safari, App Store) have no such luck and I cannot load anything on only these specific apps.
I have tried resetting the network settings, turning it on and off many times, and attempting to wait out the loading icons, but all of these are to no avail.
Like I stated earlier, everything was working fine yesterday but after I turned my iPod on today all these problems had occurred.
To sum up my 'question', everything seems fine and dandy except when you open some specific apps or try to connect to most online-only apps, can someone tell me what may have caused this or help find a solution?

  • IPod Fifth Gen Widescreen Problem

I bought several movies from itunes including Resident Evil Extinction and Degeneration, The Mummy Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, and Pirates of the Caribean Curse of the Black Pearl.
