IPod File System lost?

Over the weekend I think the file system in my iPod went out. When I turn on my ipod the language settings appear. When I go to about my ipod There is no used or available memory and the format is unknown. Does anyone know if there's a way to format the iPod's hard drive?

Run the iPod updater. Start the Update before you plug in the iPod and wait for the Updater to prompt you to connect the iPod.

IOS 8.3 and file system - lost access

Since updating to iOS 8.3 I've lost access to my iPad's file system using iFunbox and various file explorers using both PC and Mac.
It seems that a sandbox is being enforced in a way that even prevents reading of files or deletion of junk files (which kind of defeats the purpose of a sandbox.
I can't find a way around this but it also means that I can't backup maps in Minecraft which destroys the multi-platform nature of the app and renders hundreds of hours of work over months useless!
Effects of the problem:
1) I cannot access my stored data
2) I cannot delete junk files including file clutter created by apps - this means that a factory reset will be needed more frequently
3) I cannot manually backup files that are missed by automatic backup
4) The ability to use custom maps on Minecraft has gone
5) I cannot track what data apps are storing

Some applications, such as Spotify, write a lot of data in the memory card. Because of the earlier case, the memory is running out of space and sometimes urgent need to eliminate these temporary files that are unnecessary.
I find it intolerable that Apple does not propose a solution to this problem or provide a tool that allows us to iPad users delete these temporary files.
I agree that security is important, but it is true that we see as our daily use memory cards are running out of space.
Therefore, I demand that Apple me a solution to this problem.

Browse iPod file system

Hello. I have a friend's ipod touch (1st Gen) and it has had an episode. He had about 9 gigs worth of songs on it and connected it to a computer that wasn't his main one. Obviously he let iTunes on the foreign computer set up the ipod seemingly erasing the song library. Now the ipod appears blank. Heres the thing though, in iTunes the storage bars at the bottom indicates the there are 9 gigs of OTHER. I assume that this is all the old songs that are now inaccessible. I think if I could browse the iPod I could get those files off. What is a a free way to browse the iPod's file system? Thanks.

Sounds like yet another lesson in why you need to back up. Were these purchased songs from itunes or ones they ripped from CDs? If they were from iTunes, use Support here and plead for mercy and they might let them download them again. If they were from CD they just have to re-rip.

Can anyone help me with this issue? I can't restore because of a firmware error after this has happened, this is my 5th one since January and each one has done the same thing

iDevices are not and have never been backup devices.
Authorizing a computer does not cause media to magically appear.
Media is only where the user puts it.
Copy the ENTIRE iTunes folder from the old computer to the new computer.

Ipod nano file system

itunes and ipod updater won't recognize my ipod. I just saw something interesting though. In the computer management screen, the file system of the nano shows up as FAT32. This would not make me worry normally, but i have a 256 mb flash drive and that shows up as simply FAT under file system, i was wondering, will i need to change the format of my ipod nano to FAT? I was able to get songs on it orginally on a friend's computer, but didn't check any of that information, nor have i been on it since my problems started. can somebody please help, thanks

IPod formatted to UNIX File System (UFS)

Hello all, I had an old 15G iPod (the generation with the 4 button above the wheel) and I decided to reformat it and use it as a firewire drive, it's not used for music anymore. Anyway, I was about half way through the format and I noticed I had accidently sellected UNIX File System (UFS) instead of Mac OS Extended. Well I let lt finish and thought I'd just reformat it again to Mac OS Extended, only now the iPods not even being recognized by OSX? I looked in Disk Utility and nothing there either. iPod restore does nothing either, just says connect an iPod. There's an Apple on the screen and that's it? What gives? Will I be able to get this thing running again?

It really can take very long to import and process so many images - I would not dare to make a prediction.
Can you open the Activity Viewer?
From Aperture's main menu bar: Window > Show Activity.
This window will tell you the filename of the image that is currently being processed.
if you are seeing, that the import is still far from being finished, you might to pause certain tasks directly from this panel, like the generation of previews or scanning for faces. I'd let the import run, if you see that it is making progress.
Have you enabled very time-consuming options, like the generation of high resolution previes or scanning for faces and places? if yes, and the import is not making any progress at all, I'd disable thes options in the Aperture preferences for the initial import. You can add these later for the projects where you want to use these features.

There are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the files from your iPod. This is just a selection.

Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward.

You may already be using the iPod in manual update mode in which case your iPod is safe from being accidentally erased. However when you connect if you are getting a message that your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, click *No*. Pressing "Yes" will irretrievably remove all songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list. Change the update setting in Preferences>iPod to "manually manage songs and playlists" Managing Your Songs Manually
You can also use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on a Mac hold down the Option and Command (⌥ and ⌘) keys, on Windows, hold down Shift + Ctrl. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 3 and 30 seconds depending on your computer. Then go to Preferences>iPod and check the "Manually manage songs and playlists" box.

That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.

Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

I have a Droid X with a sandisk 16gb micro sdhc class 4 installed. This card has been in use for about a year and wasnt even half full. I was playing music on thanksgiving and all of a sudden the music stopped. I thought hmm, It must be doing one of its many reboots. It wasnt shut off but was on my home screen and the music player had closed. I went to my music and the songs were still listed. I tried to play one and got the error message that i cannot play this file. I tried again and the songs disappeared and up came "SD Card blank or has unsupported file system" on the top bar. I tried to view files on the card on my phone and on my computer by using an sd adapter with no luck. I popped another card into my phone and it worked with no error message and i could mount and unmount the card and view the picture I took when viewing the new card on my computer. I have a 9 year old daughter who suffers from multiple chronic illnesses and have probably 200 photos on my card of her including an extensive surgery and recovery earlier this year. If a professional can retrieve my photos, I would like to know more. Im coming up on my contracts end and this has me ready to zip up a life vest and get on another boat altogether. I have seen hundreds post about this on boards but I hope this can be resolved. Thanks in advance.

I use my phone to store all my precious moments too and I can just imagine how frustrating it must be to have memory card issues like the ones outlined in your post. I see that you have tried different things to retrieve your files from your memory card to no available. It appears that your SD memory card somehow became corrupted and most likely the data in it is now lost (sorry). While not a common issue, there is always a possibility for memory cards and any other memory device to fail. SanDisk Memory cards carry 5 year warranty, to get a replacement please contact SanDisk at 866-726-3475. Their hours of operation are 8:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. PT Monday to Friday or by email at [email protected] at your convenience.
I recommend backing up your media (specially pictures) on a regular basis to your computer or to an online service to protect those special memories, I personally have my phone setup to automatically save the pictures I take to my Google account and even if lost my phone I have a copy of all my pictures online. There are several website that allow you to sync your phone to upload pictures automatically. Please consider a similar option going forward.
On a personal note, I hope that your little girl's health improves that all those chronic illnesses are kept under control by your physician; I have 2 kids and I Know what is like when they don't feel well. Have a great day!

Can btrfs(2.6.31) file system be used during an install

Hi,
I would like to use btrfs for my root and home partition during an initial installation, but I notice that the btrfs in kernel 2.6.30 (what's on the CD) is old and has had the file system
format changed as of 2.6.31, so is not backward compatible.
Is there any way to install using the latest btrfs from 2.6.31 (or 2.6.32 if it is out ..) .... or am I just too beeding edge on this ..

Cool, I am not the only one as it seems
I might be wrong but doesn't btrfs handle file system upgrades? But even then it doesn't seem to be possible to setup the root filesystem for btrfs currently. Because the setup enviroment lacks the proper tools, like mkfs.brtfs.
Maybe stability is an issue here. Some user might get very angry if their data gets lost After all btrfs is still under development.
