IPod FireWire connectivity problems

the firewire provided with my ipod has now made my ipod unusable, except when it is connected to the computer/wall charger by firewire...
previously i have used my USB to update it and my firewire to charge it through the wall adapter... however, i lost my USB, and used my firewire to update it aswell as charge it...
after a few updates with the firewire (2 or 3) it will not turn on unless connected to the firewire in the computer or wall adapter... it will not reset or respond in any way if it is not... this is my 3rd ipod... if anyone has any suggestions... please help... i am DESPERATE!!!!!
thanks

Having the same problem with my 3G 20GB iPod. I have an Adaptec 4300 firewire card and multiple onboard 2.0 USB ports. My computer or iTunes no longer even recognizes my iPod when I use my firewire card. It used to connect for a few minutes one out every few tries, but now nothing...It will just charge as if I was connecting it to my A/C adapter.
It will be recognizes most of the time when trying my USB but I can never get a secure connection. It will just beep real quick and then disconnect again right after.
I've tried just about every possible fix listed in these forums to no avail. I will most likely be purchasing a new mp3 player if I can't find a fix soon. It's been a major pain ever since I purchased it.
I'm currently looking at the Cowon iAudio X5 and the Toshiba Gigabeat X, F, or S series. All but the S series Gigabeat support Rockbox firmware ports making it far superior to anything iPod or iTunes has put out there.

  • Random Firewire connection problem

Hi, I'm running a 'Phonic Helix Board 12 Firewire MKII' firewire mixing desk with a G5 imac/OS 10.6 - Snow leopard (running Logic pro 9). The firewire connection works some of the time but is frequently failing after start up - The firewire indicator on the desk lights up and then goes out. Other Firewire devices work perfectly with the mac - and the mixing desk appears to work fine with my old Emac (which can't run Logic 9). I've tried lots of permutations - plugging in before or after start-up, changing the cable etc, But the problem seems to be random -- and if the connection is working from start up it stays working. Please let me know if you can help me with this.

    Hi Stephen!
I don't have experience with a Mac computer, but do you have any other firewire/USB devices that you've added to your computer lately?
If so, then try disconnecting your iPod, disconnecting all other devices from your computer, reset your iPod, then connect it again. This could be a device interference with your iPod properly connecting/being recognized by iTunes.
Also, do you happen to have the McAffee Disk Scanner program on your computer? If so, then try disconnecting your iPod, turning off the Disk Scanner and your firewall, then connect your iPod to your computer again.
Again, I'm not sure if this is much right, but give it a try.

  • Trying to update iPod software; Connection problems.

Okay, so I have the iPod Touch 4th Gen, and when I plugged it into my computer, iTunes said that there was a iPod software update available. I've tried several times to download the update, but every time I try the same thing happens: It only downloads a few hundred KB of it, then it stops there, and the remaining time displayed keeps going up until it shows up to 24 hours or more, and finally, an error message comes up saying it couldn't complete the request because of connection problems. (error = -3259)
On a similar note, when downloading songs from iTunes, I constantly have to pause and resume them in order for them to fully download. Otherwise it just stops where it is.
However, I can still connect to the store just fine, with only a very few timeouts here and there, but those are easily remedied by re-visiting the page I tried to view.
So, clearly I have some sort of issue with my connection to iTunes. Can someone please help me?

care to share what the other way to download it is??
My boss has an ipad, last week he downloaded the 2 entire seasons of 24, and a season of Rescue Me with no problems at all, now he's trying to download a movie and he keeps getting this error. If those shows downloaded just fine why won't the movie download? Our Windows firewalls are disabled by Group Policy so that's not the problem... and our security software hasn't changed since last week when he successfully downloaded those shows so that shouldn't be the issue either. We don't use proxys. He's wired to the internet so it's not a wireless timing out on him issue. He's on the latest version of itunes. He's logged out of itunes store, shut down itunes, and relogged in... same problem.

  • Boot problem when iPod firewire connection

When I reboot by HP (Win XP Home) with the iPod cradle (with iPod) plugged into the firewire port, the system does nothing. Gives me a blank screen. If I unplug the iPod (in 1 minute or in 5 hours) it proceeds to boot. I can then plug the iPod in and all is fine (until I have to reboot).

The answer is obvious: don't boot the computer with the iPod in the cradle. Whatever drive letter Windows assigned it, the computer sees the iPod as bootable volume. You can fix this in one of two ways: in Windows, change the drive letter of the iPod using Disk Management(you must have administrator rights to do this) or, for more advanced users, change the drive boot sequence of your computer in the BIOS so that the computer will not attempt to boot from the iPod.

  • IPod touch connection problem!

My iPod touch no longer appears in iTunes when it is connected to the computer. I have tried to fix this problem in as many ways as I know but none of them have worked. So far, I've tried: Restarting my iPod, Downloading and installing the latest version of iTunes, using a different usb cable, using different usb ports, restarting my computer and stopping & starting the apple mobile device service. My iPod still charges when connected to my wall charger and the computer which I use (windows xp) still connects to my brothers iPod touch. I don't what the problem could be?! My iPod is 1 & 1/2 years old, but still works perfectly fine apart from this issue. Can anyone help?

  • BMW 335i ipod interface connection problem with ipod classic 80GB

Hi all, i have a 2007 BMW 335i with dealer installed ipod interface, and i been using it since, it's simply i just connect ipod with the cable in the glove compartment and leave it there, and it charges and stanby, when i start up the car the audio jumps right to where i left off on the ipod and it also let me control it with iDrive. after about one and half year of usage, i think there is something wrong with my ipod or i dont know for sure, well here is the problem, when i start the car it will play music from the ipod and i can control it from iDrive and everything but after about 5-10 mins, the music stop, and my iDrive shows weird playlist, and i need to unplug the ipod and replug again to have it connect and then it will stop by itself, after 5-10 mins, any of you guys have a bmw with the ipod interface have this problem?? i dont really know if it's my ipod problem or my bmw ipod interface problem. anyone can help me with this? thank you!

That is most likely going to be a problem with your iPod, not the interface.
Have you tried Resetting the iPod? (hold down the menu and center buttons for six seconds).
If that fails to work, try Restoring the iPod in iTunes.

  • Applie iPod Classic Connection Problems

Hi there, me and my dad just bought 2 new iPod classics... Mines is working without any problems so far (although trying to figure out how to convert videos is ******* me off) but anyway his was working this morning before I left for work and I left it to update and download the newest artwork... Upon arriving home however his is unable to open up in iTunes and Windows Vista simply keeps trying to install drivers for the iPod everytime I connect it and ultimately fails everytime... Anyone have any ideas? Much appreciated

    Hey there Joeyleo,
It sounds like you are unable to use any USB accessories with your iPod Classic. I would use the troubleshooting from the following article:
    iPod classic Troubleshooting Assistant
    https://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/classic/
Here is step one to get you started, but there is additional troubleshooting within if needed:
    1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
    2. Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.
    Tip:
If you are having difficulty resetting your iPod, set it on a flat surface. Make sure the finger pressing the Select button is not touching any part of the click wheel. Also make sure that you are pressing the Menu button toward the outside of the click wheel, and not near the center.
If the above steps did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn't set to go to sleep.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • TS1369 iPod Classic Connection Problem

My iPod Classic is not being recognized by Windows or iTunes. I spent hours going through all the troubleshooting scenarios today, swapping cables, iPod's, etc. I can't seem to locate an iPod USB driver in Device Manager, and there doesn't seem to be any troubleshooting steps to deal with this situation. Any suggestions?

  • Ipod itouch connection problems

    WRT54GS v1; firmware 4.71.1
itouch connects wirelessly and is assigned ip address, subnet mask and dns servers as expected.  router shows itouch in DHCP clients table.
when i attempt to access web i get  'cannot connect to server' error.
other wireless laptops and hardwired pc's connect and access inet fine.
itouch connects and accesses web flawlessly at local coffee shop
45 minutes on support line with apple yielded no answers - the best they can offer is that it is the router.
    help!

    FOUND THE PROBLEM!!!!
it seems the itouch cannot handle multiple DNS servers.  it turns out my internet provider's (cablevision) first listed DNS server was down.  the itouch does not look at alternates.  once i discovered that by pinging it, i changed the order of DNS servers on my router putting one of the active DNS servers first.
after that, worked like a charm!!!

  • Ipod Touch Connectivity Problems

I am having problems getting my pc to recognize my ipod at all. I am currently running windows 7 64 bit and have the newest version of iTunes.
The following are the symptoms I am experiencing:
The ipod is recognized in device manager under portable devices. I tried updating the software to get the following message " driver up to date for the device, MTB USb device." Yet under device manager the ipod shows up as apple ipod.
I then tried locating the ipod under disk management, yet the ipod doesn't show up at all.
Under my computer, the ipod shows up under portable devices, not as a drive letter, and shows up as a camera.
When I have the ipod plugged in and try starting iTunes, itunes freezes up and doesn't work. itunes does the same if it has already been running and I plug the ipod in.
Any help on this matter would be much appreciated. I believe the root of the problem has to do with the mtb usb message.

i was having similar problems. i tried all the recommendations i could find. in the end all i did was disable my wireless then plugged in my ipod. it works everytime i do that.

  • Firewire connection problem

I've just bought a GDrive Mobile which my MacBook Pro recognises on the USB port only.  Neither Firewire 400 nor 800 work.  The 400 port works fine with a Lacie external hard drive.  Any ideas?

Before connecting any firewire drive bring up System Profiler (Apple menu->About This Mac->More Info...
Click on Firewire in the list on the left, it should say Firewire Bus:  Max speed up to 800 MB/s or something like that in the pane on the right.  I'm assuming you have no Firewire devices connected at this point.
If you have a red warning message about not being able to get status or something like that you may have a hung firewire bus.  I've found I have to shutdown the machine, unplug the power adapter and remove the battery to reset the firewire bus.  If you have a newer Macbook Pro with the permanent battery, not sure how you accomplish that same reset.
If the status initially was ok, then plug in the Gdrive, wait for it to power up, then refresh status in System profiler and report back what you're seeing for Firewire status.

  • Motu 828 MKIII firewire connection problem

    Hello !
I am a Belgian user (sorry for my english) of the Motu 828 MKIII Firewire, when I was on Windows evreythings gone ok, but  I have a big problem since I switched to Mac !
When I plug my motu with a 6pin-9pin firewire cable to my macBook pro « mid 2012 » it is not always recognized by the drivers.
Sometimes it is recognized, but if I disconnect and then reconnect it no longer works.
It does not appear in the "Motu audio setup". In the "Report System » of mac, it detects an "unknown device".
I tried another cable but it does not change, yet my firewire port works well (I tried with an extern HardDrive) !!
I also tried to uninstall and reinstall the drivers, it does not change!
The firmware is 1.06, the drivers is 1.6 58373 and I’m running OSX 10.9 (mavericks).
There’s no new drivers on website...
    Please help me !

You can select which physical outputs Logic designates as your "Stereo Output" in Audio Preferences->IO Assignments. Unfortunately you cannot rename the IO label for Output 1-2 - this is permanently greyed out.
Note also that Logic that Logic has some buggy routing behavior around Output 1-2 as it assumes this is your main stereo output pair. If you want to use outputs 1 and 2 as mono outputs you will run into all sorts of trouble.
@the blind eye - you have a secondary issue in that the "Main" outputs of your MOTU are actually the mix bus of the interface itself, these are not outputs that are directly accessible by Logic.

  • Ipod/Macbook Connection Problem

Hello Everyone! I recently purchased a 120 GB Ipod Classic off of Craigslist and I think I've been duped. When I returned home, I plugged the Ipod in and connected it to Itunes and reset the unit. I then proceeded to transfer my media (I left this overnight as I have close to 20,000 songs). I checked on it about an hour later and everything seem to be tranferring fine. I woke up this morning, my ipod still plugged into my computer but it wasn't recognized in Itunes. I unplugged it and none of my media transferred. I then tried to connect it to my computer and.... the Ipod shows the screen that it's connecting to my computer do not disconnect, then it flashes and resets. It repeats this loop over and over if I leave it connected.
I've disconnected it, held the middle select button down to reset it but still nothing. Any help is much appreciated.

    Hey anamorphose13,
If your iPod displays the "Do not disconnect" screen indefinitely, I'd follow these troubleshooting steps:
    Put iPod into Disk Mode.
iPod should appear in the iTunes Source pane and on the desktop or in a Finder window, or in the My Computer window.
If a message appears that says the volume could not be mounted and asks if you want to initialize the disk, choose to initialize iPod's disk. Use Mac OS Extended format (HFS Plus) if you have a Mac, or FAT32 if you have a Windows PC.
Warning: This process cannot be undone. All of your songs, videos, and other files will be deleted. Always make a backup of your important data.
Follow the steps to update or restore iPod. If you manually put iPod into Disk Mode it may need to be resetbefore you can use it.
If you cannot put iPod into Disk Mode after performing these steps, it may need to be repaired. You can arrange for repair at the iPod Service Website.

iPod only shows an Apple logo and doesn't start up
