Ipod folder trouble

Hey people,
I having a really weird problem here.. hope anyone can help.
I recently bought an ipod nano 1st gen 8gb from the internet. (a site like ebay)
now and then when I create a folder on the ipod it does really weird: it's filled with nonsense files with strange names, or it's an exact copy of the folder that I placed the folder in. (so it's an endless row of folders..) I don't know why or when exactly this occurs, but it did several times.. and others times I created maps there were no problems. don't know what triggered it. I can't delete this 'nonsense' folders, so I completely erased the ipod's memory.. several times already, have to place the music back on it each time, boring work..
I hope there's any knowledge on this problem.. like this I can't normally use the ipod..
thanks in advance..
hey. I'm not sure.. is this the right forum to place this question? if not, or need more info.. just shout.

First, welcome to Apple Discussions for iPod and yes you are in the right place!
Now... here's the thing. Anytime you make purchases for used products on the internet you take the chance of buying a pig in a poke. In other words, you just don't know what you will end up with.
Have you tried restoring or resetting the iPod? I see you're using Win XP, so here's the link for some troubleshooting tips.
http://www.apple.com/support/ipodnano/
You will see in the link above to check for any possible software updates, do that first... here's how: Connect the iPod to your Win machine, it should launch iTunes by default, if it doesn't launch iTunes. Make sure you are connected to the internet. When the iTunes window opens, the Nano should be recognized. Check for software updates, if any are available, download, install and reboot. See if the Nano works properly. If not, follow the instructions in the link above.
If you need further assistance, just post back here and good luck. And by the way... if you can't get your Nano to work, you can get an iPod Shuffle for only $79.00 direct from Apple, holds 240 songs!
Good luck!

  • How do I delete the Ipod folder cache?? (in ilife '08)

just got an ipod and thought it would be fun to have all my pictures on it... not knowing that itunes makes a complete copy of all my pictures (25gb) in iphoto: iTunes constructs a photo database on your hard drive in order to make photo syncing fast when you add new photos in the future.
now this completely ate all my reserve hard drive space on my laptop and now I don't want pictures on my ipod...so I deleted them... but the itunes photo database still exists on the hard drive of my laptop... not giving me back the 25gb of hard drive space I really need!
someone helped me to find the following link:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300225
but when I search the folder ipod folder cache I get the same folder as iPhoto Library,
this is what I get: users/me/pictures/iphoto Library
when I click it to open my iphoto opens...
so how can I delete the Ipod folder cache with iphoto '08 7.1.1

    I found the answer....
go to the folder of your pictures, then either right click (or ctrl + left mouse) on iphoto library then click show pakket, then you will find the Ipod folder cache which then can be deleted...

  • Ipod folder on desktop wont go away

I am not sure what generation my shuffle is but it is the little one that clips on and it is purple.
I named it Lilapod. There is a folder on my desktop that says LILAPOD. When I click on it nothing happens. When I drag it to the trash, the trash can turns into an eject key but nothing happens when I put it there. If I eject my shuffle through the eject button in itunes, the folder is still there. It does not show up in the finder window as an item on my desktop. Weird. Can anyone help me get rid of it or do you have any idea why it is there?
    Thanks

If you relaunch the finder the phantom iPod folder should disappear.
You can do this by holding down the option key and right-clicking the finder icon in the dock, or by ctrl-option left-clicking the finder icon in the dock, and selecting "Relaunch" from the pop-up menu.

  • IPod Folder is popping up

Whenever I sync my iPod to iTunes, an iPod folder pops up that contains folders such as "contacts", "calendar", etc. It really doesn't do anything, just a pain to have to close it. How can I stop this folder from popping up each time I sync. It only started doing this after I downloaded 9.1.

Yes, Me too, just started at 9.1. It's annoying because it means that you can't eject the Ipod until you've closed the window - Is if it isn't already irritating enough that you have to Eject your Ipod, rather than just being able to disconnect it!

  • Click wheel iPod connectoiin troubles

I am having troubles with my click wheel 20 GB iPod (colorless screen). When I attempt to turn it on, it displays the folder and exclamation point icon. When I connect it to my computer (windows XP), it sometimes shows the do not disconnect screen and says it is charging, but it will not show up in iTunes, and it shows up under "my computer" intermittently, and when I open it there, nothing shows. I have tried recharging it,resetting it, all those re words, and still nada. One last note:I started experiencing these problems after connecting my iPod to a computer with iTunes 7. Help would be much appreciated.

Mitch, another forum member on here, has a good post about what to do if you have a / folder on your iPod.

  • Ipod having trouble syncing music

I used to have all my music onto my ipod until when i synced it to add more music it said that the folder couldn't be found and it erased all of my music from my ipod. Since then I havent been able to sync more then 100 songs before it says the same error message and again deletes all my music from my ipod. I have restored my ipod about 5 or 6 times and it still does the same thing. Any ideas to what the problem could be?

Hard to gues as you do not mention your issue.
    What "trouble" are you having?

  • IPod Classic trouble with 64 bit Windows 7

Just got a new (generation 7?) iPod Classic.  I am running Windows 7 64 bit.  When I plug the iPod into any of the USB ports, it does not show up as a drive.  When I go into the device manager, it shows up as Apple Mobile Device under the USB Controllers, as opposed to under the Disk Drives, which is where it shows up on my 32 bit machine (which I should note shows up as the E drive on that machine).  It says the device is working properly, and claims to have the latest drivers.
    Any thoughts?

Re-install, using the latest, iTunes for Windows 7 64bit, from Apple web-site.
if you want your iPod to be used as an External Hardisk in Windows, then you got to put iPod in diskmode by
Press Menu and Center button till the Apple Logo comes ON (about 10 secs)
The release the Menu button and move your finger to the reverse button |<< while still press the Center button.
The iPod screen will show diskmode.
Connect the iPod to the USB port and the PC will recognised it as a portable hardisk.
Of course, if you want to load songs into iPod and use it as a music player, then you got to use iTunes and Sync it.
Additonal steps needed for this, as your iTunes would  sometime hang and not show the iPod on the device folder.
Let me know if you need further help.

  • Help I itunes will not recognize my iphone or ipod. Trouble with USB driver, device not running in safe mode, and HDCP not supported.

Help! When I connect my iphone or ipod touch to my computer, windows recognizes my device but itunes will not. I can still see my songs, videos, and access the itunes store but my phone and itunes store have no connection so it does me no good. I have for 2 days now tried every trouble shooting method posted with no luck. I think I may have finally found a lead. My Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is showing up under portable mobile devices while it is supposed to be showing up under universal serial Bus controllers from my understanding? Also, while running my diagnostic report under itunes it also says itunes is not running in safe mode, it is not showing enabled in windows firewall (which it is checked), and the HDCP is not supported. I don't know what to do? I am in tears here, someone please help!!!

  • 4th Gen iPod, folder error, wont show up in itunes but says do not disconne

Ok so here's the deal: when I turn on my iPod I get the folder with the exclamation point. Sometimes it does come up. So i then try to update m iPod by connecting it to my computer, with no such luck it freezes iTunes up until i disconnect it. It sits in the do not disconnect state until it is disconnected. I can't even get it to show up on the computer so I am not sure as to how I would restore to factory settings. Please help!

I found a thread that referred me to this support page:

I haven't tried Apple's suggestions yet, but this is definitely a step in the right direction.
    Good luck.

  • Computer crashed, lost all itunes but they are still on IPOD- sync trouble

My computer crashed and I lost everything including my itunes library- luckily all my music is on my ipod. I found the latest itunes and installed it and then found I had to register the computer for itunes which I did. There is an option to tranfer purchases (which I assume means transfer them from my ipod to my computer) but every time I try this the whole thing freezes. Also the computer appears to sometime have trouble recognising the ipod- when I try to access the USB through my computer is says there is no disk. It appears I can't put any new songs on until I sync the ipod- but my only options appear to be sync and erase and I will lose hundreds of dollars of music.

    Welcome to AD!
Is your PC authorized for the itunes store? If so, when you connect your ipod, you should see a message about transferring purchases. Here is a screenshot of that message
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848
Clearly, you DO NOT want to push the "erase and sync" button!

  • IPod: Folder icon -- Disk Mode -- won't mount on desktop or iTunes

    Hi all.
I'm getting a folder icon with ex point on my iPod (see my pic for version). Reset doesn't work. The solution to that is to restore but when I plug into my computer it doesn't show up so I can't restore. Then it goes into "Disk Mode."
    Anyone have any ideas?

What about the Hardware? I had a similar problem with my iPod 10G scrollwheel not mounting in Finder or being recognized in iTunes. I read all these posts, did the powerdown/uplug thing to reset the FireWire port, refreshed settings, etc., all to no avail. Then the iPod wouldn't even take a charge. In digging around for repair options on the web, I discovered a site where they said that the #1 killer for scrollwheel iPods was faulty connections on the FireWire socket to the main board. With all the plugging-in and unplugging I did trying to get the iMac to see the iPod, my connector now would slide a few mm forward with a light pull. More searching revealed someone who described how to DIY fix the connector, so I figured I'd try it and ... TA-DAA. Back to life, hello iTunes6, life is good. If you are up to the task, check out: homepage.mac.com/toj/PhotoAlbum20.html for step-by-step pictures. PDAsmart.com gives the details about the bad FireWire connector, and does a fix for $50. Be advised the soldering is on fine pitch surface-mount pins, so you need a steady hand and patience.
    Good luck!

  • Ipod having trouble syncing to itunes in windows 7

Before i installed windows 7 on my desktop i had windows vista. I synced my ipod during vista and it synced fine. But now when i try to sync it in windows 7 it doesn't sync and it freezes itunes. any idea?

how long does it "freeze"? give it more time.. and I mean a lot of time.. try copying a folder with lots of files to the ipod in disk mode and see if that works normal.

  • How do I get the iPod folder to stop poping up when I plug it in?

Every time I plug my iPod into my PC the folder shows up with like contacts and calender folders in the window. It never did it with any of my other iPods but this video one always pops up when its pluged in but I don't know how to get it to stop.

Do you have disk use enabled? If so, disable it.
Check iTunes/edit/preferences. With the iPod connected of course. : )

  • IPod folder structure and content doesn't match iTunes Library structure

My iTunes Library has the following folders:
    Music
    Podcasts
    Audiobooks
As expected, the Podcasts folder contains podcasts I have subscribed to, and the Audiobooks folder contains Audiobooks I purchased. So far, so good.
However, in addition to CDs I imported, the Music folder also contains files originating from manual audio recordings I made via TotalRecorder.
This is confusing enough, but in the iPod the situation is even more confusing, i.e. everything comes under Music, which has the following subfolders (among others): Albums, Songs, Podcasts, Audiobooks.
The Podcasts and Audiobooks folders seem OK, but the Albums folder seems to contain not only the CDs, but also all the podcasts.
And the only place I can find my manual recordings is under Songs.
Any suggestions for bringing some order into this apparent chaos?
Ideally I would like to be able to create a new folder called, say, Recordings, in my iTunes Library, and I would like my top level folders in my iTunes Library to match those on the iPod.
Thank you in advance for any suggestions/comments.

Which model of iPod do you have? I have a 160GB Classic (this forum) which _does not_ show Podcasts under the Music folder, and apparently does not have an option to do so. However, I also have a 5th generation 30GB video iPod, which does show Podcasts under the Music folder. Straight away, you'll notice that different modles behave differently, so we need to know.
So, that's the first thing to sort out.
Then, on your manual recordings, did you add all the relevant artist information to the file (i.e. the MP3 tags) when you created them? If not, that will be why they only show up in songs, (but there may be another cause too!). You can fill in any missing information by highlighting the song and clicking on *File/Get Info* and adding the info then.
In the long term, the probably answer to your manual files is to give them their own genre and then search for them that way.

  • Volumes/ folder trouble in iTunes

I'm in the process of setting up my new Mac and having trouble with iTunes.  I keep my music on my external hard drive, which I've named KLB_Ext.  After selecting the right iTunes library, I found that I can't actually play any of the songs, because each one requires locating.  Even though I've gone in through Preferences/Advanced and pointed to the proper folder on my external hard drive, "Volumes/" keeps ending up in front of the path to the songs.
I don't know if I'm explaining this properly or not.  Basically, instead of just "KLB_Ext/Music/..." I've got  "Volumes/KLB_Ext/Music/...."
    How to I fix this?

I would delete the titles/files you have on iTunes (disconnect your external to be on the safe side).  Once you do that, connect your external and set your music folder via preferences.  Drag and drop your mp3's to your iTunes.  You should be good to go.
    Good luck!
