IPod freeze/reset help

So I'm pretty sure my iPod's finally gone. I have no idea what to do. I turned it on before, and it went to the language selection. Of course, first thought to my head: "***?!" So anyway, I go to pick my language..... it froze. I reset it (The menu+select thing), same thing. It locks up as soons as it starts. It goes straight to the language-select and freezes.
In the past couple minutes, however, I have had a development. Now, instead of freezing, it just resets after a couple seconds. If you hit any button or try to use the scroll during those couple seconds, however, it immediately resets.
I've tried plugging it into my computer as well as just a wall socket... no dice. In fact, I managed to get that 'recent development' by plugging it into my computer... unfortunately it doesn't actually do anything for me. Plugging it into the wall just makes it do the freeze thing. Plugging it into the computer makes it do the reset thing (and occasionally the freeze thing). Not plugging it in anywhere makes it do the freeze thing.
Erm.... help? Please?

    hello...
My iPod is freezing constantly, it freezes while I'm listening to it with headphones, in dock station or in iPod acessories... it's the fourth time this month, and I can't get help online...

For the most part... when the ipod is reset, a frown face will pop up and direct you to the ipod support website. Then the main menu will come up. I've restored it twice and about five minutes into playing music, it will freeze for about 30-60 seconds and then continue playing the song.

For better results I'd recommend creating your own thread so the responses received focus on your issue/question.
This document explains how to recover iTunes Store purchases from your device:

If the music on your iPod is not purchased from the iTunes Store, recovering the songs will require the use of third party software. Some links:

  • Freezing and resetting IPod. Please Help.

I own a 40gb Click Wheel IPod w/ a black and white screen and have recently been having a few major problems with it.
    1) The IPod will skip over songs that I select from the "Songs" menu or any other menu.
    2) The IPod will also freeze for a lengthy period of time in between songs but not during songs.
    3) The IPod will reset on its own with no user intervention.
    4) The IPod Battery has a very short life span.
I have read over several help topics and discussions on this site such as the "5 R's", "IPod Updaters", "ITunes Updates", and several other various disscusions in the forum. What I have done so far is:
    1) Reset and Restored the IPod numerous times. (I think about twelve to be exact)
    2) Downloaded the latest versions of ITunes and IPod Updater and installed them numerous times.
    3) Sent the IPod in for service. (which was returned with no supposed problem according to the technicians)
    4) Even went as far as restoring my PC thinking that could have been causing the problem.
I am recieving NO SAD IPOD ICON and NO FOLDER ICON. I HAVE however seen the Apple Logo come up at random when the IPod resets itself. My IPod DOES connect to my PC. ITunes DOES recognize it and I have no problem with transfering music.
Any help here would be greatly appreciated but I do request that you do not reply with any of the topics I have already read. (i.e. " The 5 R's", "Software Updates", etc.)
    Thank You

For what it is worth, I'm having the same restting problem. A song will play for something less than 3 minutes and then the entire Ipod "reboots": it shuts down, the screen shows the apple icon, and then it loads up. This happens whether in a charging cradle or freestanding. Occassionally it will play 2 or 3 songs before going through the reboot sequence. It is not song specific; I have no issues with itunes on my computer and no issue with the same songs on my newer ipod. Any advice??

  • 4th Generation iPod constantly freezes, please help!!!

Hi, I have had my 4th generation 20 GB iPod for about a year and a half. I have around 1200 songs on it and my iPod freezes every now and then whenever I try to play a song. When I go to reset it, sometimes it'll just return back to its normal state, but then other times, a folder with an exclamation point will pop up, then it'll just shut off and do it again. Sometimes I will lose all my songs, but then I reset it, I have all my songs again. I was wondering if there is any quick way to fix this problem. Thank you!

Try a restore again. If that does not help, you have a hardware issue.

Does your iTunes see your nano?
iPod not recognized in 'My Computer' and in iTunes for Windows
iPod: Appears in Windows but not in iTunes
If so, then follow through this:
    How to reset iPod
    Restoring iPod to factory settings
If not, do one or more of the following
    Restart your computer
Uninstall & Reinstall iTunes [Windows XP] [Windows Vista & 7]
Reset iPod (will NOT delete everything)
Go to My Computer (Windows XP) or Computer (Windows Vista & 7) and see if it shows
    Restore iPod (WILL delete everything)
Make sure iTunes and iOS firmware is up to date.
    Hope all this helps.

  • IPod repeatedly freezing! Help me please!

I'm hoping to get an iPod Touch around Christmas, but for now I have a problem.
About once weekly or 1/2 the time when I connect to my computer, my iPod freezes completely. Nothing works to get it to respond. I have tried resetting it, and my computer will not ever recognize it as being an active device.
I love this little iPod, it's been with me 5 years, and I don't want to risk mailing it off if possible.
Please help me make my little baby last out another month or so! I love it, even though it IS old, and I don't want to see it in this condition.

If Restore does not work, there is probably a hardware problem internally. It may be the hard drive becoming faulty and unreliable. It can also be a problem with the internal connection between the hard drive and logic board. It can also be the logic board.
You can try one more thing. Connect it to the computer when it is not locked up. Quit iTunes if running. Open a My Computer or Windows Explorer window that shows the iPod's hard drive. Right click on the iPod's hard drive and select to Format. This will erase it; select to do a full format instead of any quick format options.
If the format completes successfully, run iTunes and immediately do another Restore on the iPod to install and initialize the iPod's software. Then set it up as desired. Hopefully, that will let the iPod work a little longer, at least until you get your new one...

  • Everytime i eject my ipod and reconnect it all my music is gone. and sometimes while i try adding music to it. itunes completely freezes. please help. and sometimes when i plug it back into my PC i have to rename my ipod and such

Everytime i eject my ipod and reconnect it all my music is gone. and sometimes while i try adding music to it. itunes completely freezes. please help. and sometimes when i plug it back into my PC i have to rename my ipod and such

Antivirus has a tendency to freeze iTunes sync Operation with iPod Classic, causing a timeout, which corrupt your iPod filesystem, so when iTunes can't read the iPod, it is pointing to this problem. Other causes is when your iPod hardisk is dying, or your battery is dying causing hardisk crashes.
    My suggestion.
Connect your iPod to the PC and run chkdsk, to fix any iPod diskerror, then disconnect it, after chkdsk complete.
Disconnect your PC from Internet. (just to make sure no nasties creep into your system while you syncing.
    Stop the Antivirus program
Connect your Ipod to the PC
When iTunes Open up, Restore your iPod please, this is for iTunes to map correctly, to fix the corrupted filesystem.
When Restore complete, eject the iPod and reconnect again.
Sync your ipod, preferably manually Manage in small batches and disconnect after every batch, to check that all is well, since you got such a huge library.
When all sync is complete, and iPod disconnected, start back your Antivirus and connect back the Internet.
If this doesn't resolve your problem, then let me know.
    Good Luck!

I've converted some dvd movies to mp4 using Avex DVD converter. However, after I watch one of these movies, my iPod freezes, and I have to reset it.
Any ideas why this is happening?
    Thanks!

.m4v, .mp4 and .mov file formats are recognized formats. There could be a problem with the conversion.
    You could try another converter.

  • My iPod date resets to 1969 everytime I sync!  Help!

Everytime I sync w/my iMac, my iPod date resets to 1969.  Then when I adjust the date, a thousand (seemingly) alarms fly up for all the events I've missed since 1969.... Help!

Have you checked to make sure the Date and Time are set correctly on your iPod Touch?  Did you also make sure that the time zone was correct as well?
I'm assuming the date, time, and time zone are also set correctly on your iMac?
Have you tried restoring the iPod from a backup in iTunes to see if that helps?

  • Ipod keeps resetting at language selection HELP!

My ipod keeps resetting at the language selection and i can't do anythink except recharge it. How can i get it to work again.

    Welcome to the discussions Patrick,
It may or may not have said it on there but there is one number for apple support. It is 1-800-APL-CARE. You dial this number during buisness hours and follow the steps given. Since you just bought this (a video ipod right?) you have one year or 90 days of phone and tech support. As for turning the ipod on and off it is the play/pause button and the center button. Center to turn it on and play/pause to turn it off. It is confusing at first yes, but you should get the hang of it. The applecare representatives will/should take care of you.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.
