Ipod freezes after sync

My Ipod freezes after every sync. I am forced to reboot it. Has anyone seen this? How do I fix it?

I took to my local Apple location and they just replaced it.

  • IPod freezes after connecting to PC/iTunes

I think it's a common problem that iPods freeze after plugging in the USB cable. I don't know if it's working for others, but if i do a reset (hold menu plus select) on the iPod while it is plugged and iTunes is running it works. But i have to do this every time i plug it in... So much to years of software development...

"All of my songs that were numbered or had numbers in the title are not at the bottom of the songs list instead of being the first songs listed."
I assume you meant to say "now" at the bottom of the list?
Unfortunately, like it or not this how the latest version of iTunes sorts songs. Numbers now appear at the end of the listings.

  • TS1425 I cannot eject my ipod classic after sync with i-tunes on my pc. It states some of the files are being used by other applications. What does this mean? How can I get it to eject?

I cannot eject my new ipod classic after sync with i-tunes on my pc due, it states, to open files being used by another application. What does this mean? How can I get my ipod to eject?

If it's a one-time "glitch," you can try restarting your computer with the iPod still connected.  Try ejecting again after the restart.
If the problem recurs, you may have a process running (other than iTunes) that is accessing the iPod's storage.  When connected, the iPod's "disk" is like other mounted volumes.  This process may be some type of utility that continously monitors your mounted volumes for security reasons, such as to prevent access by malware.
If you know of such a program that you have running in the background, there may be a setting to exclude your iPod's disk.

  • 5G 60 Gig iPod freeze after fully charged...

My iPod freezes after a full charge. This usually happens after about 8 or more hours of leaving the power plug in, and occurs more often if the ear buds are plugged in. A simple reset wakes the iPod.
    Have you experienced this?
    Thanks!

They are partially charged. An hour is about right,
    no cause for alarm.
how about the usual charging time? how long is it? mine is like an hour, and it is already full after that. is that ok?

  • Ipod freezing after not using it for 2 days

my Ipod freezes after not using it for 2 days, should i go to the apple store and get a new 1, or is this normal. If i do go to the apple store, i would probably get a nano right since they dont sell mini's anymore

What do you mean it "freezes". After 36 hours of inactivity the mini will go into 'deep sleep' mode. When awoken from deep sleep, the iPod will appear to reset. Is this what yours is doing? If so, it's normal.
Also, Apple still has a stock of minis available for warranty claims, so you wouldn't get a nano.
    Cheers!

  • IPod freezes, after restore stops syncing halfway through

I have a 2-year old 20gb iPod that has worked fantastically for the last 2 years. About 2 weeks ago, its started freezing up at random times. I couldn't shut it off, skip songs, etc. I just had to wait 5 minutes or so for it to come back. I restored it on iTunes the other night, but during my reload of songs, it stopped halfway through. So, my iPod only has about 9gb on it. If I try to keep syncing it up, it eventually gives me an "unknown error occured" message and deletes everything on my iPod.
    I NEED HELP!

-Try resetting the iPod and try again.
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Next I would try restoring from backup
It is expected that when you connect an iPod that was synced to another computer/iTunes ibray, the iPod will be erased and its contents replaced with that in the iTunes library of the new computer. An iPod can only sync with one iTunes library.

  • Ipod freezes during sync then error that it cant read file...

A little pre-info... I have owned a black 30gb 5th gen (video) Ipod for a couple of years now. I plug it in fine, my computer recognizes it fine, Itunes works fine with it... everything works great.
I just bought another Ipod off ebay that is exact as mine except white- auction states the Ipod works fine, seller has awesome feedback, etc.. I bought this for a gift for my sister for Christmas. It is second hand, so warranty is expired.
I plug it in the computer, and first tried to transfer some normal text data via explorer. I had put this same data on my own black Ipod with no issues, words fine. The white? Lo and behold I get that "Data Cycle Redundancy" error during copy. My experience is that that has always meant that the original file is messed up, not the destination its being copied too... but in this case I know the original file(s) were/are ok.
And the Ipod freezes. So I safely unplug, and try to hard reset it. It wouldnt for a bit, and I noticed the Ipod was rather warm (but this might be because it was frozen for several minutes with the backlight still on as well). Finally I get it to reset. Same stuff happens again, again its hard to reset.
So then I decide screw it, forget adding the stuff via explorer, Ill just try to get the music on my computer at least, over via Itunes, after I first restore the Ipod.
Itunes opens... recognizes the Ipod... I go to copy music, and it copies until it essentially 'freezes'. I tried many times - its not a bad file because the same file would copy the other times Id try. It would freeze on any random file, during the write process.
Then Itunes comes up with this error:
"the ipod cannot be synced. the required file cannot be found"
I dont think this is referring to my files trying to be copied, they werent deleted or moved from their location since importing into the Itunes library. Im wondering if theres a system type file on the Ipod that Itunes speaks to as it transfers...and when the Ipod freezes... hence it cant be found...
At the same time I get this error from Itunes, I get a Windows XP bubble pop up that says:
"Delayed Write Failed - Windows was unable to save all the data for the file x. The data has been lost. This error may be caused by a failure of your computer hardware or network connection. Please try to save this file elsewhere."
Now again, my computer/windows is NOT the issue. Its the Ipod.
All the advice I have searched says to fix things on my computer. That includes that Apple support page in regards to those errors - it points the finger at my USB ports, etc - and thats simply not the case. If it was, my other Ipod wouldnt be working either - nor would my flash drives.
    Its the white Ipod.
I saw one site suggest to format the Ipod via Windows first, then do the Itunes restore, but the Ipod froze and Windows couldnt format.
I went into Device Manager and compared the two Ipod settings, both share the same settings. They are not set on 'enable write cache'.
I have tested the HD via Diagnostics, and the BL blinked after the test, showing the HD passed... so right now I can only think of three things... a bad logic board perhaps, or the Ipod system files are corrupt somehow no matter how many times I do the restore... should I revert to an older update; is that even possible. Or the HD is bad after all and its just being missed in the test.
So now... I need help. Am I missing something important? Is it a simple fix... a corrupt file thats freezing the Ipod somewhere - or did I get a bad Ipod from the seller.
Its so close to Christmas, if there was some simple fix(instead of it being a bad HD) I could fix it myself, Id rather do that than go through the hassle of returns/refunds. Not to mention, its always a gamble how the seller will react. Will they help, or say its not a problem on their end and try to screw me... then Ill have to go through Paypal for reimbursement and that takes 90 days at least...

I wish I had good news but all I have is information. I have access to 4 5th gen ipods. 2 black 30s and 1 white 30 and 1 black 80. The one white and one of the blacks work and have worked flawlessly for the past two years. The other black 30 and 80 started having the issue mentioned here some time after upgrading to iTunes 8. I tried to lowlevel format the iPod drive to fix any issues and that didn't cure the problem. I bought a MacBook a couple of months ago and restored my ipod to Mac format and low and behold it would accept files again! However it wouldn't let me fill the ipod beyond about halfway, this was on both ipods. Now the ipods have become slowly less and less fillable. Seems like syncing rather than putting the songs on manually seems to help, but again its getting worse all the time. (the two ipods that don't have any problems belong to my girls and the problem ones belong to my son and i) <- Grasping at straws I know, but my son and I are constantly changing the songs, playlists, videos and such.
When I bought my Mac the guys at the Apple store were shocked that I was having this problem and practically begged me to bring it in so they could see what it wrong with it. I will post an update when i do that.

  • Itunes and ipod freeze during sync

    hello,
firstly, i would like to thank all you kind souls who post to this forum with very helpful suggestions. you have helped me with many past difficulties.
my present issue concerns transferring songs from itunes to my ipod (4th generation). here's the story:
on friday, my ipod started acting funny (skipping songs, etc.). by saturday, it would no longer do anything (folder with !, resetting did not help). this had happened to me before so i did not freak out and figured i just had to restore (that had worked the first time around). however, when i plugged in my ipod to my computer (powerbook g4, just three weeks old), it was not recognised and i was prompted to initialize the disk. i then came to this forum and read pretty much everything related to this kind of problem. countless resets, erases, partitions, etc., later, i was able to get the ipod software back on the ipod. it seemed all normal but there was no music on it (makes sense since i'd restored it). but then...when i plugged in my ipod to sync it with itunes, it would freeze at a given song (not always the same one, sometimes 31 songs into it, sometimes 500). i came back to this forum and read that i should reset my ports, which i did. didn't help, the sync still freezes both the ipod and itunes.
so that's where i'm at: i have the ipod software on the ipod, but i can't sync it with itunes (i.e. i can't get my music onto it). my brother thinks i have bad blocks (or sectors). is this a possibility? the ipod does make some noise (not sure whether it's the infamous clicking...).
    so here are my questions:
    1) is there anything i haven't done yet that could get the ipod to sync with itunes?
assuming i have done everything and the problem is with my ipod's hard disk:
    2) would a program like disk warrior potentially be able to fix the ipod?
    3) would it cost me less to have the ipod serviced than to buy disk warrior?
    4) is there somekind of open-source or freeware disk repair utility that could perhaps repair my ipod's disk?
thanks for reading and i really look forward to any suggestions.
    gen
p.s. the ipod's more than a year old, so no longer under warranty.

Okay, I got it to work tonight...
My U2 iPod would freeze while syncing. I restored and tried to sync and it would freeze on different song #'s. All the while I heard a clicking sound coming from the drive that I never noticed before. It would just click once in a while, not repeatedly.
My fix: (a version of the carpet drop) While the iPod was on and spinning, I held it tight with my right hand, facing me and smacked it's side into the palm of my left hand, simulating the amount of force that it would incurr from a waist-high drop onto carpet.
Now, this force was sheer approximation, being that it would be too time consuming and difficult to calculate this exact amount of force. I mean, my waist may be higher/lower than the original carpet-dropper, and not to mention the plushness of the carpet! Who knows if he did it on Shenandoah Shagg or maybe just some Bermuda Burr Rug?!
By the way, the problem started after being left out in the car on recent cold nights... hmmmm, my iPod thinks me a jerk.
Anyways, here are some previous attempts at fixing my situation (in no particular order):
    1) restored from 5 different iPod updates (2004-11-15, 2005-02-22, 2005-06-26, 2005-09-23, 2005-11-17)
    2) tried to fix with Disk Utility
    3) tried to fix with Tech Tool Pro
    4) tried to fix with Disk Warrior
    5) tried to initialize multiple time (even writing zeroes)
    6) manual sync

  • 160gb freezes after syncing 35gb of info to it

i have restored my ipod 6-7 times, each time it goes great. until i sync my music to it. when i sync, in between the 35-36gb range, the ipod freezes up (the arrows on the ipod screen stop moving) and it freezes up my pc. after i get it un-frozen i must restore it again. i had to shut off the auto snyc, and only copy 34 gb of my music to it. is there anything i can do? it seems like hardware to me

    Hi. Try these techniques:
    *Check iPod hard-drive for errors*
Hold Menu+Select on the iPod for about 6 seconds until it resets, then hold Menu+Play as soon as the Apple logo appears, again for about 6 seconds to put the machine in disk mode. Open iTunes and in the Sync tab of the preferences menu check *Disable automatic syncing of all iPhones & iPods*. Now connect your iPod to the computer, wait until it connects, then close iTunes. Browse *My Computer* and right-click on the drive for the iPod, click Properties, then click Tools. Under Error-checking, click *Check Now*. Under Check disk options, select *Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors* (Optional - takes ages but a good idea if you've reason to suspect physical damage). Click Start. Mac users should run *Disk Utility / Repair Disk* for the equivalent process. This should find and correct any errors in the logical & physical structures of your iPod's hard drive. Once these have been fixed you can reset the iPod (hold Menu+Select ) and should stand a better chance of a successful restore.
    *Break up large transfers*
In iTunes select the menu item *File... New Smart Playlist*. Change the first drop-down box to Playlist, the next to is and the next to Music. Tick against *Limit to*, type in say 20, then change the drop-down to GB, and set the last drop-down to artist. When you click OK you can enter a name for the playlist, e.g. Transfer. Now sync this playlist to your iPod rather than your entire library. When the sync is complete modify the rule ( *File... Edit playlist* ) to increase the size by your chosen amount, then sync and repeat. You can experiment with different size increments, if it doesn't work just choose something a bit smaller until it works each time. Before long you should have all your music on your iPod. Once that's done you can move on to other media such as podcasts, videos, photos, playlists etc.

  • IPod locks after sync

I am at the end of my rope! I have an 80 gig iPod classic synced to my MacBook. When I sync, at the end, the little round thing in the upper left stops turning and it freezes. If I leave it the freeze lasts for 30-45 minutes. When I reset it, it takes 30 minutes to get up and running again.
So far, I have exchanged the iPod 4 times. On each one I restored to factory settings, used disk utility, restored, etc. After the second exchange, I figured it was my MacBook, not the iPod, so trashed iTunes and re-loaded it, and I did an archive and re-install of both Panther and Leopard (once I switched). Eventually, my iPod would no longer update at all, which is why I exchanged it again...and again.
I just synced my newest iPod for the first time and it froze after sync again!!
Does anyone else have this problem? I have a 2nd generation iPod 10 gig and a 4th generation iPod 40 gig (that I gave to the kids as I upgraded) and they both sync fine.
    Suggestions????

seems your iPod 10G and 40G working fine, but not 80G - it makes me feel that it is either a problem of 80G or there are some corrupted files on your iTunes library e.g. movies

  • IPOD Freeze after rating a song

I bought a new IPOD VIDEO 60G on 1 April (after my Ipod 4th generation's hard drive gave in 4 days after the warranty expired) and I already have problems ....as i can see a lot of people do
Have any of you come across this problem: I rate a song and the ipod freeze and do not want to go back to the "play" menu, it keeps playing songs in this RATING mode without wanting to UNFREEZe, bloody irritating and also worrying...
    Any Quickfixes???

    This is a known problem.
1.1.1 (the latest iPod updater) is supposed to fix it.
