Ipod Freezes at begining of song.

My 20 gig color ipod continual freezes up at the begining of a song. I have reset, reloaded ..........dozens of times and it continues to occur. I have put it in drive mode and done the reload thing still no success. It was working with only ocasional at the start of certain songs. If I reloaded that song it would then work. Now I can get nothing. I have seen other posts similiar but could not find a solution. Anybody have a fix to this problem?

Do a restore. You will lose all data so archive your Nano files to your hard-drive.

  • Ipod Freezes on Exact Same Song as it starts. Virus?

My ipod freezes every so often on just one song, at 00:00. Its done it a good few times now. I can't reset it, no matter how many times i try. I have to wait a good 5 minutes and it will just start replaying my songs again from the begginning.
Could this be a virus or something with that one song? I have scanned it eith anti-virus but it doesn't find any.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

You probably have a bad track i would download it again or get it from iTunes or a reliable source. If you got it from iTunes, tell apple about the problem.

  • IPod freezing and not all songs play

My ipod freezes and cannot unfreeze until battery goes low. How do I get this problem fixed? Also, after I download a song and transfer it to my ipod, the ipod doesn't always play the song. It may play a few seconds, but that's it. I try to redownload the song and the ipod still won't play it. Need help with this thing!!

I would highly suggest "Restoring" your IPOD using the IPODs Updater software. Read here:

  • Itunes Freezes at begining of songs

Ive had this problem for about 2 weeks now. I havn't gotten anywhere on fixing the problem. Whenever i play a song or a new song come up on a playlist, at random point before the 20 second mark in the song it will freeze everything on my computer except my mouse for about 1 second at least 3 times per song. I have never seen any problem like this ever in my life... i hope someone can help... oh i forgot to mention that i've been running itunes on this commuter for over a year and now is the only time it is doing this...

I had this problem a couple of months ago and posted my solution elsewhere in these discussions. I was getting skipping/freezing with a very large library (like 10k songs) on a slow hard disk. I managed to get rid of the skipping as a test by reducing the size of my library to a small number. But what also worked for me was to move the itunes library file to a faster hard disk. I've also read there is a problem between itunes and a certain kind (SATA?) of disk drive. I don't really understand how that could be though. Anyway, you could try moving the library file to another disk or reducing the size of your library of songs. Perhaps Apple will fix the problem too.

  • Ipod freezes with mylink

IPOD freezes after 2-3 songs, i have 10000 songs.

hmmm im not really sure why that happens or how to fix it. but i just wanted to say that to reset the ipod, its not with the hold switch and menu/play. its by holding down the \play button with the center click button, if you have an ipod with a click wheel. if its one with the 4 light up buttons, then you hold down play and menu.
    i hope that helps!

  • 60gb ipod photo keeps freezing and skipping through songs

I've had my 60gb ipod photo for almost a year and it keeps freezing and skipping through songs and sometimes it won't respond to a reset. I have to let the battery run down in order to use it again. I have restored it several times and it seems to keep happenning at least once a week.I have the latest software for it. Is there any thing else I can do?

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync what you  want
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
    -  Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • Ipod freezing in the middle of songs, have to wait until the battery dies.

Help me, my ipod freezes in the middle of songs and i have to wait until the battery goes out until i can do anything with it. And the harddrive has started to click and it sounds like a fan that starts spinning after two clicks. What should i do ?

you know what its funny because my ipod just did this last weekend. its been freezing on and off for the last couple of months. I have had it for a year and a half. It would freeze and i would try and do the whole thing where you hold down menu and select and that worked for awhile, but then suddenly last weekend it froze and it started making a weird clicking sound too. i got ****** and just left it at home for the weekend. when i got back home the battery was dead of course and i just plugged it into the charger and it turned on again. im guessing that sometimes you just have to leave it alone. when it made that clicking noise, it wouldnt do anything. you just have to let the battery die and then recharge it.

  • My iPod freezes when i try to add a new song!

then my iPod freezes and i have to restart it again it's so STUPID!

I was having the same problem. I found that shutting down all other programs helps. It dosen't lock up on me when everything else is off.

  • Ipod freezes in middle of loading itunes library

After reformatting the hard drive on my Powerbook G4 drive (per Apple instruction), I reconnected my ipod clickwheel and it hasn't been working since (using Tiger 10.4 and latest version of ipod updater), mostly showing the folder & exclamation point icon. Have tried:
    * Multiple resets
    * Multiple restores (using several different updaters), both after and without erasing the ipod using disk utility
    • Connecting to a different Mac G4 running OS 10.3.9
Right now I can get the ipod to mount in itunes and begin loading songs. But it always freezes, and at different points (i.e., it terms of which song it freezes at). The powerbook apple tech I spoke with suggested that the ipod was probably in the process of failing before I reformatted the laptop and that the stress of reloading the software onto the ipod sped up the failing process (??). I would have gladly sent the unit in for repair by now if the cost were not just a few dollars less than buying a new unit (funny that huh?). So, I'm just trying to figure out if I have to trash this unit. Is there a guru out there who can help?

    Hi David,
It sounds like a hardware issue with your iPod. If you did perform the 5 r's:

...and still having problems, you might want to do one of the following:
Go to the nearest Apple store:

  • Itunes/ipod freeze when i try to sync my ipod

yesterday i downloaded the most recent version of itunes. i successfully synced my ipod the first time. but now when i try to sync my ipod, itunes freezes up and eventually quits sync-ing.
i've restored my ipod twice, but it hasn't helped -- each time i trying to sync the ipod, it will begin the process, but freeze after 7-30 songs of 2200.
and now i just tried to scroll through my ipod songs to see how many were actually there, and it froze up.
    please help. thanks.

I'm having an similar problem after updating to iTunes 7.1.1.5, Windows XP. I'm using a 3rd Gen 40G iPod. I have reinstalled iTunes several times and restored the iPod so that all data in it has been erased. When I try to synch the iPod to iTunes, first of all it copies very slowly, and then, it will fail after about seven or eight songs and I get the error message that the synch failed due to an unknown cause (error -124). I am able to eject the iPod and iTunes appears to work correctly. I've tried this several times and the same error keeps occurring.

  • Itunes 10.0 Crash/Freeze when beginning to importing CD

    All,
I recently bought my father an iPod Nano 5th gen. We got about 5 CD's properly imported on iTunes 9 when I was showing him how to import and sync his device. However, soon after I 'cut him loose' he reported a problem with the iTunes freezing and causing trouble for the rest of the computer. I've replicated the symptom and have done an evening of searching with no avail. I upgraded to v10 with the problem persisting. Here is the progression of how to replicate the symptoms...
    1. start computer/itunes
    2. insert cd
    3. click yes when asked "would you like to import this CD"
    4. iTunes begins importing, but freezes on the first song with less than 1/16 completed. iTunes no longer responsive
(5.) Can CtrlAltDel and shut down iTunes, but other functions remain inactive (starting new programs, shutting down, etc... computer needs hard restart)
(6.) Can replicate with 3 other CD's. Stopped trying after this.
(7.) Can successfully rip via Windows Media Player and drop and drag into iTunes. To me, this proves correct working order of CD rom drive and general windows software.
Alternately, iTunes will freeze when simply trying to play off of a CD within 5 seconds of playing the song.
I have tried operating with the "Use error correction when importing CDs" unchecked, yielding no different results.
Please advise, thank you in advance!!!

  • Playback pauses and ipod freezes then unfreezes after 20 seconds

    Description of the issue:
When playing continuously song after song, the ipod freezes and music stops about 5 seconds in to most songs.  After about 20 seconds, playback resumes and the ipod is responsive again.
    Symptoms:
Only happens after one song ends and the next one begins.
    Doesn't happen every time
iPod freezes and won't accept commands from the click wheel.
Troubleshooting: Reset has not resolved the issue.
Background:  Worked fine before last night, when I added some more files to my itunes library by convering them from wma to AAC.  I received the message during synch that itunes couldn't copy all the files from itunes, since there's not enough room on the ipod.
Once I get home today, I'll try reformatting, etc.

    Try a restore.

  • IPod freezing when updating music/copying files

In the past few months I bought a new Mac Mini. When transferring files from my Mac at work and my roommate's PC at home, using the disk use option on my iPod, it would start to copy the files and stop part of the way through and freeze. There's no way to stop it once it freezes and I end up having to restart my computer. I have tried resetting the iPod to factory settings and reinstalling all my music. I'm using the latest iPod software and running iTunes 6.0.1. When it updates my songs, it does the same thing where it may get about 1000 songs in and then it locks up. When I restart the machine, it has to start from the beginning. The only way around this problem I found was to stop it every couple hundred songs and restart the update. It still freezes when using disk use if the files are big enough. Has anyone else run into this problem? Does it require servicing or is there something I should be doing?
    Thanks!!!

I have been having a similar issue with my iPod since December. Whenever I plug the iPod into my computer to update the songs, it freezes after 20, 30, 40 songs or so. But I think I've discovered the source of the problem, at least in my case, so I thought I'd share it in case it helped anyone else.
I got an AirClick remote for the iPod for Christmas, which I use in the car. But for the sake of convenience, I've been leaving the receiver plugged in to the top of the iPod instead of removing it when I'm not using it. And ever since, it's been freezing when I update songs, but I never made the connection until yesterday. When I remove the AirClick receiver before docking the iPod to my computer, it updates as many songs as I would like (even thousands at a time) without freezing.
So if you have any devices plugged in to the top of your iPod, even the headphone remote, I would recommend disconnecting them before connecting the iPod to your computer.
    Hope this helps somebody!

  • Ipod freezes during sync then error that it cant read file...

A little pre-info... I have owned a black 30gb 5th gen (video) Ipod for a couple of years now. I plug it in fine, my computer recognizes it fine, Itunes works fine with it... everything works great.
I just bought another Ipod off ebay that is exact as mine except white- auction states the Ipod works fine, seller has awesome feedback, etc.. I bought this for a gift for my sister for Christmas. It is second hand, so warranty is expired.
I plug it in the computer, and first tried to transfer some normal text data via explorer. I had put this same data on my own black Ipod with no issues, words fine. The white? Lo and behold I get that "Data Cycle Redundancy" error during copy. My experience is that that has always meant that the original file is messed up, not the destination its being copied too... but in this case I know the original file(s) were/are ok.
And the Ipod freezes. So I safely unplug, and try to hard reset it. It wouldnt for a bit, and I noticed the Ipod was rather warm (but this might be because it was frozen for several minutes with the backlight still on as well). Finally I get it to reset. Same stuff happens again, again its hard to reset.
So then I decide screw it, forget adding the stuff via explorer, Ill just try to get the music on my computer at least, over via Itunes, after I first restore the Ipod.
Itunes opens... recognizes the Ipod... I go to copy music, and it copies until it essentially 'freezes'. I tried many times - its not a bad file because the same file would copy the other times Id try. It would freeze on any random file, during the write process.
Then Itunes comes up with this error:
"the ipod cannot be synced. the required file cannot be found"
I dont think this is referring to my files trying to be copied, they werent deleted or moved from their location since importing into the Itunes library. Im wondering if theres a system type file on the Ipod that Itunes speaks to as it transfers...and when the Ipod freezes... hence it cant be found...
At the same time I get this error from Itunes, I get a Windows XP bubble pop up that says:
"Delayed Write Failed - Windows was unable to save all the data for the file x. The data has been lost. This error may be caused by a failure of your computer hardware or network connection. Please try to save this file elsewhere."
Now again, my computer/windows is NOT the issue. Its the Ipod.
All the advice I have searched says to fix things on my computer. That includes that Apple support page in regards to those errors - it points the finger at my USB ports, etc - and thats simply not the case. If it was, my other Ipod wouldnt be working either - nor would my flash drives.
    Its the white Ipod.
I saw one site suggest to format the Ipod via Windows first, then do the Itunes restore, but the Ipod froze and Windows couldnt format.
I went into Device Manager and compared the two Ipod settings, both share the same settings. They are not set on 'enable write cache'.
I have tested the HD via Diagnostics, and the BL blinked after the test, showing the HD passed... so right now I can only think of three things... a bad logic board perhaps, or the Ipod system files are corrupt somehow no matter how many times I do the restore... should I revert to an older update; is that even possible. Or the HD is bad after all and its just being missed in the test.
So now... I need help. Am I missing something important? Is it a simple fix... a corrupt file thats freezing the Ipod somewhere - or did I get a bad Ipod from the seller.
Its so close to Christmas, if there was some simple fix(instead of it being a bad HD) I could fix it myself, Id rather do that than go through the hassle of returns/refunds. Not to mention, its always a gamble how the seller will react. Will they help, or say its not a problem on their end and try to screw me... then Ill have to go through Paypal for reimbursement and that takes 90 days at least...

I wish I had good news but all I have is information. I have access to 4 5th gen ipods. 2 black 30s and 1 white 30 and 1 black 80. The one white and one of the blacks work and have worked flawlessly for the past two years. The other black 30 and 80 started having the issue mentioned here some time after upgrading to iTunes 8. I tried to lowlevel format the iPod drive to fix any issues and that didn't cure the problem. I bought a MacBook a couple of months ago and restored my ipod to Mac format and low and behold it would accept files again! However it wouldn't let me fill the ipod beyond about halfway, this was on both ipods. Now the ipods have become slowly less and less fillable. Seems like syncing rather than putting the songs on manually seems to help, but again its getting worse all the time. (the two ipods that don't have any problems belong to my girls and the problem ones belong to my son and i) <- Grasping at straws I know, but my son and I are constantly changing the songs, playlists, videos and such.
When I bought my Mac the guys at the Apple store were shocked that I was having this problem and practically begged me to bring it in so they could see what it wrong with it. I will post an update when i do that.
