IPod freezes every time I plug it into my latop

Nearly all the time when I plug in my iPod (3rd Generation) it freezes, I put it on hold and back and press the center button, I hold it down for at least 15-20 seconds, and it still doesn't unfreeze. After like an hour and I try to restart it it sometimes works, It has froze one time for a whole night before, I don't know what's wrong, and its really irritating me now.
Oh and my center button doesn't work right, I have to click it to the bottom right of the button for it to work, Do you know whats wrong with it? I've had it for about a year now.
Thanks

It would be interesting if it could "talk" to iTunes on a different host computer..if it couldn't it sounds like it would be some type of hardware problem, and would involve a warranty replacement of the new device.....wish I had a better answer...

Does your iTunes see your nano?
iPod not recognized in 'My Computer' and in iTunes for Windows
iPod: Appears in Windows but not in iTunes
If so, then follow through this:
    How to reset iPod
    Restoring iPod to factory settings
If not, do one or more of the following
    Restart your computer
Uninstall & Reinstall iTunes [Windows XP] [Windows Vista & 7]
Reset iPod (will NOT delete everything)
Go to My Computer (Windows XP) or Computer (Windows Vista & 7) and see if it shows
    Restore iPod (WILL delete everything)
Make sure iTunes and iOS firmware is up to date.
    Hope all this helps.

    Hello kidmango,
I am going to have to agree with planb77. Look into other drivers in your computer causing the issue, not just the nano's drivers.
It is possible that security software is the culprit. Use this:
    iTunes: Troubleshooting security software issues
You may have to restore your computer to a previous point. From before the issue started. Contact computer manufacture or Windows for steps, or do a search with a search engine.
I would test the ipod on a known good computer to see if its the ipod is the issue. My gut says no. You can set a reservation at an Apple Retail Store. Apple.com/retail .You can also test a known good ipod on your computer.
    Hope this helps.

  • How do I backup my iphone to a computer when every time I plug it into the computer, it starts syncing it to itunes or trying to download itunes?  How do I back it up and where do I find the backup?

How do I backup my iphone to a computer when every time I plug it into the computer, it starts syncing it to itunes or trying to download itunes?  How do I back it up and where do I find the backup?

The backup does not include any itunes content. NO apps, music, etc
You can transfer itunes purchases from iphone to computer:  File>Transfer Purchases
You need to copy everything from your backup copy of your old computer to your new computer.

  • So, my ipod touch 4th generation has stopped working. every time i plug it into a wall or an outlet, it will regester that it has been plugged in, but it will not charge, and trurn on. does anyone have any suggestions? thank you.

my ipod touch has stopped working. I will plug it into a wall, or computer, and it will register that it is plugged in, but it will not charge and turn on. does anyone have any advice? thank you.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • My iTunes freezes every time I plug my iPod in to update it.

Everytime that I plug in my iPod to update it, iTunes freezes and nothing is transferred onto my iPod. But as soon as I unplug my iPod from the computer, iTunes immediately unfreezes and goes back to normal. What's going on?

Did you get your ipod working? I am having the same issue. Keeps telling me I need to format but it does not work.
    Thanks

  • IPOD freezes every time I go running

I purchased the IPOD video 30GB in late February. 9 out of 10 times I go running, it freezes and stops playing. This is a joke since this is the reason I bought the IPOD in the first place. It also does not hold a charge for long. It also locks my computer system up when plugged in and creates a FAT 32 error indicating volume is dirty. All of this has been ongoing and I haven't taken the time to report the problems. By the way, Apple does not make it easy to report service issues, either. I have asked others I know who own an IPOD and they haven't experienced these problems. Did I buy a lemon of an IPOD? Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated.

That likely means that yo have a negative balance in your account (you owe Apple money for previous purchases).
Log into your account and check your balance and add a valid payment method if necessary

I have an iPhone 4 and downloaded all my iTunes music to it.  Now when I connect it to my laptop I automatically get the "blue screen of death", does anyone have any insight into this problem?

This will happen if you have photos in your camera roll and an out-of-date scanner or webcam driver. See this: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1502

Is there anything that can be done to fix this?

    Hi joy145,
If you are having issues syncing and would like to manually manage your content, you may find the following article helpful:
Apple Support: Managing content manually on iPhone, iPad, and iPod
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1535
If you are still having issues or continually prompted to erase and sync, you may want to try restoring your iPhone to factory settings before moving your data over (either via syncing or manually):
Apple Support: Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1414
(Note: Restoring iOS software deletes all your data and content from your device, including songs, videos, contacts, photos, and calendar info.)

  • LaCie 500GB External Firewire 800 causes crash every time its plugged in???

My LaCie 500GB Firewire External hard drive causes the computer to freeze every time I plug it in.
I just switched back to Mac from Win XP, where the LaCie was used for almost a year without a single problem. Supposedly, since it is formatted for XP use, it can simply be plugged in to my G5 (dual 2.3, 4BG RAM) and work just fine.
I've upgraded to 10.4.4 and still have issues. I've read this is a 'kernal panic' issue, etc.
What is the solution? I can't even plug it in and reformat it - as soon as it's plugged in the Mac collapses; the screen goes 'grey tinted' and an error message appears telling me to hold down the restart button and restart the computer. If I leave the drive plugged in, as soon as I've signed in on the restart, it crashes/freezes/collapses again, same error (i.e. it's circular).
There seems to be no solution. Any help MUCH appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Sarge

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
First find out if this is a Firewire 800 or 400 problem. Try connecting a Firewire 400 cable to the drive if it supports it. If it only has Firewire 800 ports, you may want to get a Firewire 400 drive to experiment to see if that's all the problem is.
After a forced reboot, it is also always wise to repair the directory if you are backed up:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
If it detects issues on your source drive that it can't repair, and you are backed up, then I would use Alsoft Disk Warrior.
If it detects no issues, then the problem probably resides in either the cable or the drive you are connecting to. Try a little process of elimination.

  • My apple ipod classic 80gb says there is no music - anything on my ipod, but says it only has 37gb free. Then i try and plug it into my pc with iTunes on (i've set it to do not automatically sync devices) but it still freezes every time. can't restore.

my apple ipod classic 80gb says there is no music - anything on my ipod, but says it only has 37gb free. Then i try and plug it into my pc with iTunes on (i've set it to do not automatically sync devices) but it still freezes every time. the only way to unfreeze it is by detatching the ipod or resetting with menu/centre (until it loads up again, where it immediately unfreezes and comes up with a load of messages saying "cannot read iPod" and when i try and restore it by pressing menu/centre button while it's plugged in, it says "cannot restore as it is being used by another program" or "error 1415". Any ideas how to sort this out? hope i haven't majorly screwed it up. thanks.

Sorted it out. • My iPod playlists are deleted every time I plug my iPod into my MacBook Pro.

Every time I plug my iPod into my MacBook Pro, my iPod playlists are deleted.  I have all the sync features turned off on both the iPod and computer.  What is happening?  I hate having to remake my "Workout" playlist everytime I plug in!

Correct.  All sync features are turned off and if is 'manually manage' somewhere, I have checked the box to do so.  So basically everything is set for me to manage manually, yet my iPod playlists are still being deleted.
