Ipod freezes itunes when I connect it to computer and won't sync

I have a 120GB ipod classic, and I got it not even 3 months ago. It was working fine and now when I connect it to my computer itunes freezes and my ipod doesn't show up on it. However, it does show up under my computer.
Anyways, then I unplug my ipod and a message pops up on the computer that says it couldn't sync my ipod because a required folder is missing. My ipod plays music fine, it just won't connect to itunes!
I know it's not the computer because I connected my ipod to another computer and the same thing happend. Also I connected my old ipod to my computer and that one showed up fine.
I am very frustrated!! Does anyone know how to fix this?

Have you tried doing a reset on the iPod? That may help if its the ipod directly... It may have something where it's not breaking to do the SYNC with the computer
Here's a link to help you with the reset, what ever you do just don't do the "restore" setp.. As this link does the whole 5 r's to help resovle issues...

    I have a 2nd generation Ipod.
I have it connected to my computer and see (my name) ipod on my screen.
Everytime I try to add a new song to the Ipod, this message comes up and I am not sure what to do:
The Ipod, (my name) is synced with another ITunes library on A74F65. Do you want to erase this Ipod and sync with this ITunes Library?
An Ipod can be synced with only one ITunes library at a time.  Erasing and syncing replaces the contents of this IPod with the contents of this ITunes library.
Then it asks me if I want to delete and sync.
I am not sure what to do for fear of erasing everything I have put on my Ipod.
I would appreciate if someone could help me out.

If I understand you correctly, you are trying to use iTunes to play the Music in your iPod but which is not in your itunes library. I don't think Apple design iTunes for use in your way. As to put and play music in iPod, the music has to be in iTunes first, so you play music in the iTunes music Library. the window with Ipod music is just to show you which music are already in the Ipod, in case you want to Manually Manage your huge music library.

  • IPod freezes iTunes when connected to computer

Whenever I connect my iPod to my Dell laptop iTunes freezes. When this happens, iTunes does not crash, it only freezes. During this time, iTunes will finish the song that it is playing (if doing so), but after the song finishes no further media will play. Also, the iPod does not show up on the sidebar of iTunes at this time (iTunes appears exactly as it was before connecting the iPod).
I am unable to eject the iPod safely at this point as the computer tells me that the system is using the iPod. If I remove the iPod from the computer, the error message: "Unable to sync iPod" comes up in iTunes. At the same time the iPod shows up on the sidebar of the iTunes, but it disappears as soon as I click "Ok" on the error message. At this point, iTunes returns to normal and is no longer frozen, even without restarting.
I have tried using a different computer and the same thing happens. I have also tried a different cable and the same exact thing happens.
Most recently, I have tried putting the iPod into disk mode, but still the same thing happens when I connect it to the computer.
If I go into My Computer (the same thing occurs in or out of disk mode) and click on the iPod, it will take me to the iPod folder, but My Computer will begin to Not Respond and then the only way to close it is to force close the window (ctrl, alt, del). If I right click the iPod, the drop down menu to access properties or to format the iPod comes up, but once again My Computer begins to not respond and I must force close it.
My iPod is an iPod Classic, 120 GB.
My computer is a Dell Laptop, Studio 1558
I have also tried on a Dell Desktop

OK, lets check out the iPod's hard drive...
*Check your iPod with Diagnostics Mode*
It's possible that your iPod's hard drive has started to fail. Take your iPod and place your right thumb on the centre SELECT button and your left on the top MENU button. Press down both thumbs for about 6 seconds until your iPod reboots. Immediately move your left thumb around to the rewind button |<< on the left and hold this down together with SELECT for a further 6 seconds. Your iPod should now switch into Diagnostic Boot mode. Press MENU for *Manual Test*, then select *IO > HardDrive > HDSMARTData* to reveal your stats. For comparison here are mine for my 2 year old 6th Generation Classic:
    Retracts: 889
    Reallocs: 12
    Pending Sectors: 0
    PowerOn Hours: 2202
    Start/Stops: 894
    Temp: Current 24c
    Temp: Min 10c
    Temp: Max 50c
Take a note of your results. When finished press *SELECT & MENU* for 6 seconds to reset the iPod again.
With modern disc drives sectors are no longer marked bad by a disc scan, if the SMART firmware detects a sector it has trouble accessing it will attempt to invisibly reallocate it to a spare area of the disc.
Note that I've only 12 remapped sectors and none pending. To help explain what the numbers mean here is an extract from the Wikipedia S.M.A.R.T. article:
    *Reallocated Sectors Count*
Count of reallocated sectors. When the hard drive finds a read/write/verification error, it marks this sector as "reallocated" and transfers data to a special reserved area (spare area). This process is also known as remapping, and "reallocated" sectors are called remaps. This is why, on modern hard disks, "bad blocks" cannot be found while testing the surface – all bad blocks are hidden in reallocated sectors. However, as the number of reallocated sectors increases, the read/write speed tends to decrease. The raw value normally represents a count of the number of bad sectors that have been found and remapped. Thus, the higher the attribute value, the more sectors the drive has had to reallocate.
    *Pending sector count*
Number of "unstable" sectors (waiting to be remapped, because of read errors). If an unstable sector is subsequently written or read successfully, this value is decreased and the sector is not remapped. Read errors on a sector will not remap the sector (since it might be readable later); instead, the drive firmware remembers that the sector needs to be remapped, and remaps it the next time it's written.
Large numbers of Reallocs or Pending Sectors would suggest your drive is failing and that you may need to repair or replace your iPod. Check your stats after another attempt to update your iPod. If the numbers increase that again points to hard drive failure. While it won't be good news at least you'll know it isn't some random software problem and you can decide what to do next.

  • IPod seems to freeze iTunes when I connect it! D:

I decided to restore my iPod using iTunes, so I did. When I went to go and then put the saved backup back onto my iPod iTunes froze. It then came up with a Windows message saying that 'iTunes has stopped working' and that Windows was 'checking for a solution to the problem'. The Windows message then changed to saying again that ' iTunes had stopped working' and the only options on that window was to press the x button which closed the message and iTunes or 'close the program' buttom which did the same thing. I tried this again and again and each time it did the same thing. When I would plug the iPod into iTunes, the icon of an iPod would appear in the top left hand corner like normal but it was a faded icon, after a short delay, that was when iTunes froze and the messages came up etc. I then decide to try and connect my brothers iPod but doing that didn't seem to cause iTunes to freeze etc. and I could use the facilities for that iPod as normal. I can't honestly think of what has caused this and Apple support, either in store, online and by telephone has been absolutely useless, so I thought I'd ask on here. Please help and give me some advice on what to do to resolve this issue as I currently can't use the ipod. Even if I was to set it up as a new iPod I won't be able to sync it to my iTunes as it will freeze and force quit as soon as I connect it.
    Thank you!

  • Ipod freezing itunes when being plugged in and not recognised

    hi,
can anyone help me... i have an 30gb ipod and have tried everything to get it working with itunes. It works fine with others computers but with mine it just freezes itunes. As soon as i plug my pod in it freezes itunes. Sometimes if i'm lucky it starts to update it but then after 5 minutes it freezes itunes again. I have tried the 5 r's. I have installed the latest SMTP driver for xp. I have tried everything that apple have suggested on there sopport pages and nothing has helped. I have even reformatted my laptop just to get it to work but no luck.
If someone could please help me it would be much appreiated. It was a christmas present from someone close to me and don't wanna give up on it because have all ready spent many late nights on it.
    Thanks

I get exactly what your describing and I noticed we are using the same laptop!!
I did not notice originally as I've got an old 40gb click wheel, about 3/4 years old. The battery is not great so assumed it may have been that but even fully charged I'm getting no luck.
I also followed the 5 r's and all the other suggestions for Ipod in My compute but not in itunes but nothing has worked. I cannot get my laptop to recognised my ipod via Itunes but it see's it fine via My Computer.
Both the Ipod and Itunes work fine without each other, Ipod plays songs fine etc and Itunes downloads music from cd etc and still performs all the usual functions but nothing else works.
I'm desperate for help as I run every day and buy a new cd each week and at this rate I'm going to have to dig out my old CD player!
Also just a point of note I looked the price to get my Ipod serviced as I figured this may help but the price quoted from apple was £160+...you can get a new 30gb for less...talk about customer explotation!!

  • HT201302 Recent photos on iphone were deleted when I connected to my computer and an automatic iOS7 update started

Recently I took photos on my iPhone4s.  When I connected the phone to my computer to upload the photos, the computer automatically started a software update to iOS7  When the upgrade was done, my recent photos no longer exited on my phone and aren't on my computer.  Any way to retrieve these photos?

Since you didn't import the pictures into iPhoto, but merely viewed them while they were on the iPhone, then they are definitely not on your mac.  Since you deleted them from the iPhone, they're gone.  You didn't by any chance set up Photo Stream?  If so, have you looked at the Photo Stream folder in iPhoto?

  • IPod freezes iTunes when syncing

Today I put a few new songs into my iTunes that I burnt onto a disc from my friends house. No problem the songs when on just fine. Plugged in my iPod and it did the usual; back up the iPod, sync all of my apps. Then it tries to sync my music and iTunes and my computer freeze. Now none of my music is on the iPod. At all. But all of my apps are. I deleted the new songs from my library and tried again and it still froze when trying to put the music on. I've also restarted my computer twice. Help would be awesome. Thank you!

Ok, so I just got the new 64 GB iTouch for my birthday and I imediately plugged it in to my labtop, I got it all set up and what not and then I started suncing my music... I knew it would take a long time because I have over 5,800 songs. I get about 5,000 songs into the syncing prossess and then I get a pop-up that says "iTunes has stopped working: A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." I have tried over and over to finish syncing my music and it just does the same thing, AND I haven't been notified of any "solution". I've tried changing it from manually managing my music to sync and that didn't do anything. What do I do? Should I re-download iTunes???

It should be OK as long as you are not syncing or doing data transfer via US like backing up or restoring
