Ipod freezes on syncing and won't unfreeze until battery dies

hello,
my friend has an 80 gig ipod classic that freezes when she plugs it into her computer to sync it. when she unplugs the ipod, it says "corrupted" and is completely frozen. She has to wait until the battery dies and then charge it again to be able to use it.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Have You tried the restart...when it freezes up. that might help. its two buttons Menu and the centre, press them at the same time...Try Restarting the ipod before you connect it other than that you might want to consult your closest apple store geek. There is a disk mode and try restarting then pressing Centre and Play/Pause button when it shows the apple sign might work. I had one that did that, but thats because i washed it in the washer machine three times. now it works great. but dont go do that. Or it may be your computer USB cable. just holla back if you still cant figure it out- oh and if you want to take it outta disk mode, just restart again. and it should work. other than that consult a geek.
But if you need some advise, it (ipod) might need to be restored and you can do that on your itunes. just click the ipod when it comes up and there should be a button that says "Restore". i hope she has all her music and movies on her hard drive.

  • Library gone, ipod freezes with sync, and won't save positions in videos

Wow. Three major issues with iTunes/my iPod in three days. Have I set some kind of a record here?
Well, first off... I went to charge my iPod with the usb cable as I always do. iTunes is configured to pop up and sync with the ipod each time it sees that the device is connected. All seemed well, until I saw a message telling me the library on my computer did not match the one on my iPod. Basically asked me if I wanted to wipe out the music/video collection on the iPod and replace it with, well, NOTHING which is what appears to be in my iTunes library right now. That's right, my library is all gone. No big deal, right? Just point iTunes back to my media folders! Not cool. I've pruned SO MANY horrible songs within itunes without deleting the actual song files. my iPod will be getting at least 250+ songs I do NOT want to bring to work, or on my commute. I don't have my library backed up. Why would I? This should not happen. I did nothing to cause it, there's no "iTunes virus" which wipes our your library, is there?
Next problem... This morning when I gave my iPod a quick charge before work... Hold switch on "hold," iTunes hadn't popped up during the 30 mins I left it in.. Guess what? The iPod is frozen. Reset it. This'll be the third or fourth time this has happened to me.
Lastly, I've noticed that the iPod simply WILL NOT save the position I was at before shutting down the iPod after a viewing "session." No, that's not true. It will revert to some random spot in the video I was watching, perhaps the first "bookmark" I'd made, the first time I'd quit in the middle of a video. Every time after that it won't continue where I'd left off, but rather at that first spot in the video. This isn't a problem for ALL of my videos, just some.
And a fourth bonus problem:: When am I going to be able to categorize my non-purchased videos properly? I complained about this like 2 months ago and iTunes still hasn't been "fixed." I'm limited to keeping non-purchased videos under "music videos" which is just stupid.

First off, you have to search the system for your purchased songs. There usually in the My Music/iTunes/iTUnes Music/(Artist name)/(Album Name)
If you can not find them there then search the system by going to start button>Search and type in the search m4p for audio and m4v for video. more on this here http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301749
Its true apple doesn't offer redownloads BUT alot of people including me, have had success in emailing the music store, telling them what has happened, and getting an offer to "Redownload" all the songs paid for
Far as the malware goes, you have some type of malware on the system, if you didn't ewido wouldn't of sent off an alarm with a sound and you wouldn't have been removeing things with it. malware comes in many forms, sometimes installed by that "Free" program you get off the net, sometimes installed in the background when you goto a certain site. In some cases simply rolling the mouse pointer over an ad on a web page (Which is easy to do when its beside the scroll bar to the right) will have it install. I have 3 different adware scanners and still get one or 2 that gets thru now and then

  • IPOD freezes while SYNCING - and then gets file error

    Hello all,
i have a standard 40gb click wheel ipod, quite old, it works, but limited. The ipod just freezes while syncing now, it has been restored numerous times, but 2 not much avail, i can get one or two albums on there, then everytime i try and sync the ipod just freezes, and has to be reset. Every TIme i plug the ipod into my vista laptop it says, the says. SCAN AND FIX, ( because i couldnt get anything else to work i tried this ) and this is what vista told me
    http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/9118/vistafixesipodlu5.png
i was like woah, so i proceded to restore the ipod then it seemed to work, for a day. then went back to the freezing while syncing, then next time i plugged in the ipod, windows said the disk needs to be formated before it could be used, so i tried that ( cos itunes was doing sweet **** ALL ) and windows couldnt format it, and neither cos HP USB FORMAT Tool. so i reset the ipod, plug it back into vista, and behold, SCAN AND FIX COMES UP, so i click it, it fixes it, but only loads 1 album before it freezes while syncing again, i have the screenshots,it took 11 screenshots, to get the FULL MESSAGE, that vista chkdsk gave me, there was thousands of these "BAD LINKS IN LOST CHAIN at CLUSTER XXXXX Corrected" messages
im currently listening to Three Days Grace on the ipod, works GREAT, except if i try and put more then this ONE album on it, it freezes while syncing, and gives me the unknown file error. SO any ideas if this ipod can be fixed, cos itunes cant do anything, im assuming there is physical unrepairable damage to the HDD of the ipod and will need replacing if this ipod wants to be in full working order again.
The ipod is NOT under warranty either, so does any1 know where in Australia, it be fitted with a new HDD? Thanks
    kind Regards,
    Hayden

I had an iPod Classic 5th Gen that I upgraded from 30gb to 80gb.  The problem I'm having is that it will not sync more than about 5.4gb worth of songs.  The iPod begins to freeze mid sync and the (-69) error message haults the sync process.  The hard drive has been upgraded, it has a new logicboard (with 128mb RAM), new housing, battery, hold / headphone jack.  Basically the only original parts are the bezel, click wheel, screen, and data ribbons. Have attempted the 3Rs and have also tried to isolate potentially corrupt audio files and remove them, but this did not seem to be the primary cause.  The sync failure consistently happens at just under a 1000 songs (5.4gb) and then it starts to error (-69) any song after that.  Your advise would be enthusiastically received.

Here is what worked for me:
My usb hub, being usb2, was too fast. I moved the wire to a usb port directory on my pc. That is a usb1 port which is slow enough to run your snyc.

  • HT1363 ipod making clicking noise and won't work

Ipod making clicking noise and won't work. Display see apple store. We live in a rural area so one is not close!

OK, I have the 30G w/video and it does that too. I've had it a year with no problems. My husband went on the treadmill with it a couple days ago and after a few songs it froze. I did the whole regime of toggling and pressing menu/select button, I put in on my Bose speaker/charger and it switched to very low battery warning. When I took it off to move to computer it said to connect to computer and use restore (in a few languages). I connected and it recognized it and I did restore and after a few minutes screen came up saying it could NOT restore. Then ipod was unrecognized and then ipod screen gave me the very sad little ipod picture with the support web site. At that point it began making the clicking nose - morris code does describe it but I was invisioning a little nano sprite in there with a chisel!!So, same as you, I go there and it's like a maze trying to find help!! Of course my warranty was up exactly 6 weeks ago!! I tried linking through all the stuff like finding a service provider in my area, contact the "knowledge base" etc., and I can't get anyone! Now what are we gonna do?

  • HELP! My ipod is frozen on and won't charge!

    Hello!
My ipod is completely frozen and won't charge. It is stuck on a picture of a folder with an exclamation point(!). I reset it several times and it just goes back to this picture. I have tried to charge it but it seems to not connect to my computer because the battery does not come up and my ipod icon does not appear in my itunes. I tried to charge it on another computer and it would not charge on that one either. I updated my itunes but still nothing. Restoring seems kind of extreme (losing ALL of my songs!!) so I was hoping I could fix this problem without having to do that! Can anyone help me or has this happened to anyone else? Suggestions are welcome! Please Help! =)

  • HT1386 My Ipod and Ipod touch both sync and update latest CD music added to Itunes, however when I connect my Iphone it wont sync my most recent CD addition to iTunes?

My Ipod and Ipod touch both sync and update latest CD music added to Itunes, however when I connect my Iphone it wont sync my most recent CD addition to iTunes?

I have my iTunes settings to prevent my iPod from synching automatically.
Open iTunes (without the iPod Touch connected) , go to "iTunes"--->"Preferences"--->"Devices", select the box that says "Prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from synching automatically", select "OK".
I would then close iTunes and then reopen it.  Verify that the settings you just changed are intact.
Log into the iTunes store and update any Apps that you may have purchased.
Connect the iPod Touch via USB with iTunes open.  You will see the icon on the left side under "Devices" as normal, however it will not automatically sync.
Click on the "Device" in iTunes and from there you can manually adjust all the items you want to sync and then select sync when you are ready.
I sync mine this way because I feel it gives me more control over the syncing process.  Also, I always log into the iTunes store first, check for updates to my Apps and then connect the iPod to manually sync.
So, to me, I guess that perhaps is a way to "force" the sync but in a controlled manner.
    I hope that helps.

  • Ipod won't start until battery is dead

I don't know if this has happen to anyone but...
My itouch on random occassions just shuts off and won't restart until the battery is drained...
It then resets and have to be recharged again. It is a 1st generation itouch and there is the apple warranty to send it back. Though is there anything I can do to avert that.

I realize that the ipod can be reset and brought back by holding down the home and wake button for 10-20 seconds.
It just that it's weird that it does that...

  • First USB port stops working after random time and won't work until I restart

    Hey guys
I have this problem on my late 2011 Macbook Pro 13 inch,
It's been for a year already and it really freaks me out and drive me crazy
My first USB port next to the thunderbolt stops working after like 3 days, and it won't respond until I restart my computer or log off and log in again.
If I restart my computer, USB stops working after 3 days and won't respond until I restart
If I log off it works for like a couple of hours and then stops again
I have tried EVERYTHING, SMC reset - no luck, PRAM reset - same results, Upgraded to lion same results, Upgraded to mountain lion - SAME RESULT
And I can't take it to an apple store because I'm not from the US
I am 100% sure this is a software problem and I've seen here that many people have faced this problem
Please help, it really freaks me out

I'm sure this isn't what you want to hear but unless you really are using your laptop 24 hours a day, is there any reason why you don't just shut it down and reboot when you're ready to use it again? I have to wonder how many other MacBook Pro owners potentially have the same problem but when they quit computing for the day, their computers quit too.

my ipod touch go of and will not work untill i plug it back in to a ac power

You likely have a hardware problem like a dead battery.  To rule out a software problem try the following in order:
    - Reset:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore the iPod from backup via iTunes
    - Restore the iPod to factory defaults/new iPod
If still problem make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.
